#so I started watching Stargate and... nothing

So here's what Stargate Atlantis: The Official Companion Season 3 has to say about Sunday:
"It's more complicated than anyone will ever know," says writer Martin Gero of why the decision was taken to kill off Carson Beckett. "It wasn't like, 'Hey, let's kill somebody!' It was for numerous, incredibly complex reasons, having to do with the show overall."
*cough* Ratings *cough*
For a long time, Gero had wanted to see the characters of Stargate: Atlantis in a situation very different from the perils they usually face. He wanted to see them during 'down time'; relaxing, enjoying each other's company and generally having a life not plagued by danger.
Martin Gero, the writer we deserve.
"For a couple of years Martin had wanted to do an episode about a day off," recalls executive producer Brad Wright, "a non-urgent mission. And I said 'Well, I love that as the backdrop...and then something incredibly dramatic happens!' Because I don't think the audience wants to watch anyone sleeping. A day off that is un-dramatic and does not have a huge event centered around it is not going to be that good."
Listen. I don't know about anyone else but I know this is mine and many fan-fic writers' dream. I want to see every bit of a characters life. I would've watched 15 episodes about the characters having lunch and playing board games and hanging out. There is literally nothing more I want to see than my favorite characters having a good time. Just say it's for the ratings, don't try and put this on the audience. Alright, enough of my interjection back to the book.
"I had been pitching this day off episode forever," says Gero. "Brad said, 'This is a dangerous place. There are no days off in Atlantis.'"
Again, bullshit but I'll hold my tongue.
Then there's a bit about how they decided to write things and film things and the different processes they went through. Then more from Martin Gero at the end:
"Usually when we show the director's cut of shows up here [in the production office], it goes through the gauntlet of people making fun of it. That's harsh, but it's an important part of the process because you need to know what doesn't work. And the more vocal your audience, the better, so that when the producers go down to do the final cut, we can try to make the episode better. That started, and then for the last three acts there was really complete silence. When the lights came up, I turned around and Brad was crying. Everyone was just very somber. It was awful that we had to do it, but Brad thinks it's the best episode of Atlantis, period."
No one made you do this!! In fact, we all would've liked very much if you hadn't done it!
After the breakdown of each episode, there's a little report on each main cast character and a blurb about the recurring cast as well as sections about the making of the show. Here's some from Carson's report:
McGillion reveals that whatever shock the audience felt when they learned of Beckett's demise, it was nothing to his own. "It was absolutely not my decision to leave the show," he says plainly, remembering how he heard the news. "We shot 'Phantoms' on location. We came back for one day to finish the episode on the stage, and one of the ADs asked me to go up to the office because [executive producer N.] John Smith wanted to talk to me. I thought, okay, maybe they saw the dailies for 'Phantoms' and they're really happy with my work. Maybe they want to say, 'You did a good job,'" he recalls. "I did not see it coming at all. We went to Brad's office and it was myself, John, Brad, and Robert. I have to have respect for what they did - they called me to the office and told me in person that they wanted to shake things up with the show and unfortunately they had to kill a character off. It had to be somebody of significance so that the fans would have a reaction to it. And my number came up. I was shocked, to be honest with you, and I was disappointed because I love working on the show and I've had some great relationships with the cast and crew."
Wanted. to. Shake. Things. Up.
For McGillion, filming Beckett's final episode after three years of working with the same cast and crew was, understandably, not easy. "It was very difficult to shoot, especially that last scene with David."
Stop I'm crying again 😭
Then it's talking for a bit about how Paul had to come back to film a bit after 'Sunday' and that the last things he filmed were for 'The Ark.'
"I forget exactly what the scene was. I was kind of blurred that day because I knew it was my last day and no one else did," the actor recalls. "I didn't want anyone else to know because I'm somewhat like Beckett, I wear my heart on my sleeve and I didn't want to get emotional. Martin [Wood] shot 'The Ark', and [he and] Alex Pappas, who is the greatest AD that we have, were going to make a little announcement: 'This is a wrap on Paul for the show.' I asked Alex not to do that, because I just couldn't deal with that at that point in time. I didn't even tell the cast. We shoot so much out of sequence that no one knows when it's someone's last day. So I left and I saw Rachel [Luttrell] and told her. David had left [so] I called him to let him know. The next night all the cast went out for dinner, so that was nice. It's tough, but I'd rather just go out quietly."
Real life Carson Beckett, I love him so much 🥺
But that's about what it says on the episode. I know people have been saying this forever but I like to get it from the source as well. I am even angrier now than I was before which I truly did not think was possible.
If you like behind the scenes stuff, I think this is a great book! I'm going to follow along when I do my Atlantis watch-through, there's a lot of great stuff in here. Would recommend if you can get your hands on it, even if it does make you extremely angry at times. 😂
#stargate#stargate atlantis#sga#carson beckett#sga s3e17#was going to post this last night but picking up groceries was a fiasco lmao#also the intro is by paul and it's about when he got cast and it's just so dang sweet#want to meet this man so badly just to say thank you#long post#i went a little feral with this post sorry not sorry#mostly i made it because i needed to get this out of my system 😂#but also a few of you asked for it so i hope you enjoy? it

my stargate watch got kinda screwed. i got atlantis heavily spoiled. and sg-1.. well. im basically at the end of season 10, and i wanted to talk about episodes i actually i like
"Beachhead" was pretty cool. love the supergate. loved vala. shit was good.
"Collateral Damage" was pretty interesting. more Cam lore. not enough though
as i said previously, "Ripple Effect" is amazing, just for bringing Janet back, but also seeing Martouf. i also loved how one of the teams did their thing. thats such an sg-1 thing to do.
"Stronghold" i really liked that Cam showed his friend his memories. was pretty cool.
"Ethon" i liked that the brought back the Rand/Caledonia shit, but again, no real progress? like, i guess i kinda get it, didnt seem likely that they actually would change, but yeah, dissapointing. also, when i first watched this, i thought Jonas was from Rand, but nah, he was from.. uhh.. Kelowna? something like that.
"Of the Grid" was kinda nifty, ig. i kinda love the whole kassa thing. druggie corn. my favorite. can you imagine sitting on the couch, playing your favorite shows, and then getting high of of corn??
and that was kinda it. i really liked the end episodes, "Crusade" and "Camelot" but...
i think these seasons work best in hindsight. like, when you watch them at first, you will probably hate them. but the more you watch them, the better they become. probably mostly because of the new world-building, and shit. season 10 is definitely better. will make a similar post when i finish it. debating if watching "Ark of Truth" is neccesary? comments welcomed.
i also wanted to add, that i have no idea why they are adding more enemies in these late seasons. like starting war if the Lucian Alliance is.. very boring to me. i also really hate what became of the Jaffa. i guess it kinda makes sense, but i dont know, i kinda wished that after so many bloody years of constant war, they would just sit on their asses and fucking draw and make sculptures and shit. but nah. we had to have another power hungry jaffa, who eventually joined the oril, redeemed himself, and died. then came another power hungry jaffa, who did a horrible fucking warcrime, and then lost dakara. what is the fucking point. makes me sad. teal'c fought for nothing.

Critical Mass, Pt. 6
After leaving McKay in her office, Weir has the same discussion with Caldwell over jurisdiction and authority as they have had many times before and unbeknownst to her, it is actually Caldwell that is hosting the Goa'uld which she suspects not at all, possibly because of the resentment she feels toward him natively. Weir then starts interrogating the crew of the Daedalus and her conversation with Kavanagh is especially illuminating, but I will return to that at the end of the episode. Here, Weir gets hailed by McKay in the middle of her interrogation of Novak requesting her presence, and we may note that although he says "I have discovered," we subsequently find out that he has actually been doing what ever he has been doing together with Sheppard.
McKay: Elizabeth. Weir: Excuse me. Yes, Rodney? McKay: Can you come to the Control Room? I've discovered something important. Weir: I'm on my way.
We saw both Sheppard and Weir walk out of her office while McKay seemed to be somewhat at a loss and we left him standing still there, not sure what to do next. Weir and Sheppard both looked like they had places to be and things to do. We know what Weir did, she went directly to the Daedalus, but the only thing we know about Sheppard is that between the previous scene and this, he has put his jacket on. By the looks of it, he never got that far from McKay. When Weir comes in, she asks him what they have found so at least Weir thought that Sheppard had been right there with McKay while he was figuring this out. And given that Sheppard is actually able to give her an answer, it would seem that he had been here for at least a while. It seems as though with a possible undercover agent now on Atlantis, he does not want to leave McKay out of his sight and however much he might say that he trusts Cadman, McKay had certainly made a few good points. He might disagree with him on principle but he was still not leaving McKay unprotected.
Weir: What have you found? Sheppard: Guess what? Turns out there's no bomb after all. McKay: Uh, there's no actual explosive device. The explosion will come, but from somewhere else. Now, with the wraith on the way, we'll need to cloak the city, right?
Unlike previously, when Sheppard had walked by McKay's work station but still stayed on the outside of the desks, he has now parked himself inside the working space where the gate technicians are toiling and even though he is very obviously in the way, McKay merely goes around him and seems to think nothing of Sheppard being in his space. Sheppard is leaning his hand on one of the desks and seems to have placed himself so that he can look at McKay as he walks from desk to desk. Also, it seems as though Sheppard had understood what McKay was going for and was able to translate it to Weir in more simple terms but because McKay thought he made it too simple for Weir to understand what the issue is, he backs up a little. And let us just emphasize again that it had been Sheppard questioning why their bomb guy would have wanted to switch the distress beacon on that had led McKay to the answer.
Weir: Yes. McKay: Well, in order to do that, we need to reconnect the ZPM in order to supply the necessary power. Weir: And what about the stargate? McKay: I've physically disabled the DHD. It won't be able to dial, so it won't be a problem. Now, the ZPM, however, will be.
McKay sounds both excited and energized as he tries to explain their discovery to Weir. He is also clearly trying to explain it in a way that she might be able to understand, and it seems as though having explained things to Sheppard for over a year has really made him rather good at finding the pertinent information and dumbing it down enough for laypersons to understand. McKay is animated and in his own element as he is doing this, and we may note that although Weir had placed herself in front of Sheppard, had taken root between them, Sheppard is watching McKay from behind her. He actually cranes his neck to be able to see him better from his vantage point. And he really does not seem to like the fact that she is between them. It is making him antsy but he is trying to bear it because he realizes McKay needs to explain this to her. However, there is only so long that Sheppard can make do without attention from McKay. This is something that we see repeating time and again.
McKay: Now, as you know, the Zero Point Module controls the flow of massive amounts of power. Sheppard: Like a dam. McKay: No, it's not like a dam, it's more like a... actually, yes, it's like a dam. If you overload the dam, it breaks, which is why the Ancients put in place failsafes to prevent such a thing from happening.
Feeling the need to be included, Sheppard pipes up with an analogue for what McKay was explaining to Weir, informing us not just of the fact that he has a constant need for the man's attention but that he has been able not only to understand what McKay is explaining but is also able to dumb if down further, to explain it using his own words, which is also something that we have seen him do before. He is expert in translating McKay to a lay audience.
Back in Trinity (S02E06), we got the most peculiar line from McKay where he said to Sheppard that he thought that they had agreed that he would do the talking in the meeting. It is unclear whether they had a similar agreement here but McKay certainly seems to feel like it was a given that he would present this to Weir. He starts to disagree with Sheppard seemingly on sheer principle because we are meant to think that the two of them are fighting for some reason, exchanging those short but intense energy bursts, but just as soon as McKay starts contradicting him he notices that it is actually a good analogue and not only admits this to Sheppard but decides to run with it. What is funny here is that the thing that actually more accurately describes what McKay seemingly wanted to convey is "flux capacitor" (more accurately, lateral charge flux capacitor) but McKay was not about to say that to Sheppard after the exchange they had in Before I Sleep (S01E15) because he would literally never hear the end of it.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3c86e9e973994e194a9f7bdeedca38d8/55d40a50e83e41e9-c2/s400x600/988bfca3f90dc578b5c308524f488831bd0bd0f9.webp)
It is entirely possible that their previous exchange over this particular term is why McKay decides to embrace Sheppard's analogue so easily, and they definitely have that old married couple energy going on here. We see Sheppard basically roll his eyes when McKay starts disagreeing with him and then immediately comes around because neither of them seems to understand why they are even bickering. However, we may note that, assuming they have caught up the three months between The Siege (S02E01) and The Intruder (S02E02) by now, it has now been a year since Hot Zone (S01E13). It has been a year since they started hooking up. Whether or not the timing explains any of their behaviour here (just the fact that it has been a year might be enough for one or both of them to at least have a thought about where they are now), there actually are clear similarities between the episodes.
Sheppard: Like a spillway. McKay: Could we just stick with failsafes? The problem is, our Trust operative figured out a way to rewrite Atlantis' operating system and disable the failsafes, but mask it in such a way that the city sensors didn't detect it. Weir: So the dialling of Earth would cause the ZPM to overload.
Feeling proud of his original analogy, needing attention from McKay and unable to resist pulling his pig-tail, Sheppard inserts another clever remark to McKay's obvious exasperation. But do note the fact that even though he refuses to indulge Sheppard in this, McKay says "we". And by "we," he once more very obviously means himself and Sheppard. Weir may be standing between them and McKay may be trying to explain this to the leader of the expedition but they are still having a conversation between just the two of them at the same time, literally over and around Weir. In is only be placing herself smack in the middle of the two of them that she has even a prayer of getting included in their exchange.
The face that Sheppard makes in response to McKay essentially snapping at him (it is really a variation of the "Do you always..." whine from earlier) is interesting. He looks away from McKay and seems to shrug his head. He shakes his head minutely but it is not the same gesture as shaking one's head no but more wobbling it from side to side. It is almost as though he wanted to tilt his head to show his nonchalance, shake his head to communicate that he won't do it again, nod his head to show affirmation and roll his eyes to pretend like what McKay said did not hurt his feelings (it was not McKay's intention to make him feel stupid and only to keep his own thoughts together, but Sheppard may well have interpreted him as implying that because it is a touchy subject for him) but of course he cannot communicate all of this at the same time, so his face kind of spasms. And it is entirely possible McKay would be able to read all of this off of Sheppard's face, this is the kind of wordless communication they are known to engage in. Although Sheppard said not a word, his face was still saying many things while attempting to project nonchalance.
McKay: Oh, yeah! And given that dialling another galaxy requires tremendous amounts of power, we're talking catastrophic overload. I mean, the explosion would destroy not just the city, but most likely the entire planet. Sheppard: Can the failsafes be re-enabled? McKay: Yes, but whoever it was who did this anticipated the possibility that it would be discovered and they put in place a code to block access to it.
Weir is not dumb, and her comment tells McKay that she had understood the gist of what he had been trying to say. And just by McKay's tone, if one did not know about his tendency to dissociate and cut off his feelings in stressful situations, one might think that the very real chance that their entire planet was going to blow up unless he personally finds the way to stop it from happening (no pressure!) did not even phase him, like he was treating this as a puzzle to be solved and was even excited about it. The way he is explaining the situation to Weir, it is almost as though he is enthused over having figured out their plot to destroy them when once again there is not one person among them that understands the danger they are in more acutely than he does. And this is why Sheppard, who knows him best, does not allow McKay's earlier snappy comment get to him but asks the question as it occurs to him, figuring it is important enough to speak out loud. Because the notion that the entire planet might blow up freaks him the fuck out, seeming to be the kind of danger that he cannot protect McKay from never mind how many Cadmans he might assign to look over him, and it seems as though he has to trust McKay to be able to save them instead.
Cadman: And I'm gonna guess that cracking this code isn't gonna be easy. McKay: No, not at all. It is extremely complicated. Weir: But for now you've already disabled the DHD so it's impossible to dial Earth. McKay: Yeah, but unfortunately, any number of systems can be used in conjunction with each other to overload the ZPM. It'd be a much more gradual build-up than dialling the gate--
Here, we see how McKay's response to Cadman is much more condescending than his response to Sheppard where both their questions were more or less as relevant to the topic. His tone makes it sound as though Sheppard had asked a pertinent question where Cadman had asked the stupidest question he had ever heard where his intention was probably to communicate to her that if it had been easy, he would have cracked it already and they would not even be having this conversation so Cadman should stop wasting his time. It seems like McKay is taking what ever is ailing him that seems to be connected to Sheppard out on the people working with and for him, and while Cadman is there right now to take the brunt of it, it seems as though both Zelenka and Kavanagh had been suffering through the same lately, Zelenka now being tormented by children off world and Kavanagh having suffered enough of his temper to have requested a transfer after only three weeks of working under him. Because McKay loves Sheppard and has very rudimentary interpersonal skills (and Sheppard is not much better when it comes to "feelings" and expressing them), the only way McKay knows how to deal with the resentment caused by his recent adventure with ascended women is to chew out anyone else who gives him even the slightest opening to lash out on them.
However, let us note that although Sheppard is standing behind Weir, he is looking at McKay. He has not even attempted to check out Weir's posterior and there is no sense what so ever that he is even trying to keep himself from doing it. It is just not something that interests him whatsoever when McKay is right there in front of him for him to look at. He can fix his eyes on McKay and he can draw his eyes away from McKay, but McKay is the thing that is at the dead centre of his attention at all times that they are in vicinity.
McKay: ...which would cause an instantaneous power spike, but equally as effective in its results. Weir: And we can't disconnect the ZPM because we need the cloak for when the Wraith cruisers arrive. McKay: Bingo! Which is why our bomber activated the distress beacon, alerting them. And that is how the wraith coming to Atlantis is connected to detonating the bomb.
Sheppard turns his face away as McKay reaches his conclusion that disconnecting the DHD is not enough to deter the threat but that the overload and subsequent explosion are still very much up and coming. With this, we are able to see that he gets to the implications much faster than Weir, already across the finish line as she is still making her way there. And where McKay seems to be able to not display any emotion whatsoever regarding this state of affairs, Sheppard seems to have a much more difficult time not feeling, not showing his feelings, having to actively push down the terror that is building up in him. We have seen him worrying his lip when when he is trying to deal with his emotions and here he seems to bite down on his lower lip really hard, taking his whole damn lip inside his mouth. His breathing also seems heavy and laboured, and he can't even think of anything to wisecrack about this situation. And although McKay is telling them all that Sheppard had basically been right earlier, that it was Sheppard's "OK, why?" that had led him to this conclusion he is taking no pleasure in this. Sheppard is feeling helpless because it does not seem like there is anything he can do to save them from this threat.
Also, there is some clever camera work here again, obscuring the way Sheppard has his body turned toward McKay and the way he moves to open his body by drawing his shoulder back when McKay moves from across the platform, the camera following McKay and hiding the way Sheppard turns his body just the same as Weir when McKay moves closer to Sheppard to acknowledge his contribution in him having reached this conclusion, and maybe likewise feeling like they had had Weir between them for long enough. If he could not be sure the planet was not going to blow up in the near future, he needed to be closer to his man. It is not just Sheppard who needs to hang around McKay but McKay also needs Sheppard to be near him while he is working.

20 questions for fic writers
tagged by @screamlet
1. How many works do you have an AO3? 14 (and, full disclosure, all but some of the tumblr fics are with @liminalmemories21)
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 151,628
3. What fandoms do you write for? 9-1-1
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? In order: Awful quiet here since love fell asleep (9-1-1, the break up, make up fic), Atlas (bound) (9-1-1, the Buckley parents are trash fic), Baggage that goes with mine (9-1-1, Tommy begins), (I'm in love) but I do not speak the language (9-1-1, the relationship discovery one), and I'll cover you (9-1-1, part II after Baggage, when Buck and Tommy get a dog).
5. Do you respond to comments? I really try. @liminalmemories21 is much better at it than I am, but I do always intend to because each comment is my best beloved.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Erm, we don't really write angsty things? Awful quiet, Atlas and Inside, You've Got Heaven and Earth all start angsty, but don't end there?
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oh, god, uh, probably What's with today, today? Mostly just because making them all librarians on Stuffie Day itself was an indulgent turducken of a dessert.
8. Do you get hate on fics? not so far, thankfully
9. Do you write smut? a hundred percent more than I ever imagined
10. Do you write crossovers? I drop them in Lim's chat all the time but one has never stuck. Like, the one from this week was Wolfram and Heart is based in LA and reopens and... I don't know, Lindsey sticks around with his evil hand? THNK OF BUCK AND FREAKING OUT WITH THE CURSES AND THE RESEARCH SPIRALS AND...
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not that i know of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? nope
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Err, all of the recent ones because I am nothing (fandom-wise) without Lim
14. What's your all time favorite ship? I have no answer for this. I read like, a decade's worth of Stiles/Derek and literally never watched an episode of the show, but I watched SO MUCH Stargate because John/Rodney, my beloveds. I am still a sucker for a good Arthur/Eames. I would bow down if people brought back silver foxes Fraser/RayK. It's hard to have favorites after over 30 years in fandom.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Lim and I poke things to death, and definitely don't post a lot of them because we can't imagine things not being done before we put them out in the world -- see the Merlin fic of epicness that we started way over a decade ago and still sits in our google docs.
16. What are your writing strengths? I also think this is a thing best answered by others, like hi, Lim, how do I help? I honestly think I'm a better editor than writer? I'm not good about setting scenes, but I'm pretty good about taking drafts and massaging them?
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I always want things to feel more lived in than I feel I can accomplish on my own.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I speak english and bad english, so I am terrible about this, but I totally understand that sometimes its warranted.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Popslash and Smallville, and hi, yes, I disappeared for two decades.
20. Favorite fics you've written?
Awful quiet did exactly what I wanted that fic to when we set out to write it, and while maybe I wish some of the OCs were handled better/differently, I'm still happy with how we got from the beginning to end.
The What Binds series definitely put Tommy in a place and time, and there's a reason there's four stories worth of it (hi, I'm super proud of the detail about Tommy losing his virginity to Dave Matthew Band because, come on, people).
I know that Inside, You've Got Heaven and Earth didn't really hit with people, but it addressed something I wanted to fiddle with for Buck and Tommy, and Lim was a trooper for going there with me.

Nine (or so) People You'd Like To Get To Know Better
tagged by @frangipani-wanderlust!
Last Song I Listened To: I have been mainlining 'The Highwayman' by Loreena Mckennitt for the past about two days
Currently Watching: Rewatching Stargate Atlantis. I miss TV shows that had the cast dealing with new wacky hijinks each week in mostly self-contained episodes rather than them just being stretched-out movies.
Currently Reading: Just finished Alphabet of Thorn by Patricia A. McKillip and about to start rereading Inkheart by Cornelia Funke (which will hopefully be as good as I remember)
Current Obsession: Trying to be obsessed with the story I'm trying to write (been beating my head against like 20+ variants of the first chapter for over a month) but it's not really working. So nothing in particular.

~At the end of No Way Home, Peter chooses to sacrifice his life in New York to save the multi-verse...by letting Dr. Strange send him to a world where no one has ever heard of Spider-Man. What kind of crazy place is this Gotham City, anyway?~
time flies by (bye) by WHYISEVERYNAMETAKEN *Finished*
~"Maybe," Peter thought, "I can make a life here." Hence the tears and the guilt and the grief, because was Peter allowed to move on? Was he allowed to… to leave it all behind? Leave all the bad things in the past? Peter was "The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!" after all, and wasn’t he letting Queens - his people - down if he didn’t fight tooth and nail to get back to them?~
The Ghosts of the Gotham Opera house by Unctrlablyalt (tay_tay19) *Finished*
~In the aftermath of the battle atop the Statue of Liberty, Peter Parker is thrust into a new reality where he's a stranger without an identity. Homeless and displaced in the alleys of Gotham, he must navigate a city overrun by crime to forge a new path.
Meanwhile, Gotham's shaking with the arrival of Red Hood. Fueled by years of grudge holding and a burning desire to settle the score with his old man, he's back in town and ready to cause chaos. But as he grapples with memories and family ties he thought he'd left behind, keeping that vengeance alive gets trickier than he ever imagined.~
Dumpster Diving for Treasure by Clovrtree *Unfinished*
~After waking up from his own demise in an alternate universe, Peter's first course of action is to gather as much information and resources as possible to make his life easier. In doing this, he decides that dumpster diving at local playboy billionaire, Bruce Wayne's, manor would be the best place to find anything useful. Unfortunately for Peter, it's trash day, and a certain butler catches him mid-dive.~
ShutterBug by Iriley *Unfinished*
~Waking up Peter finds him self in a new city and no memory of how he got there. The question is, where is Gotham and how did he get there?
Little does he know that his new photographer job will lead him to making new friend and maybe something more.~
Well... that was unexpected (subject to change) by scrambleddragonegg *Unfinished*
~When Peter’s tear-filled goodbyes were meant to send him back to another Earth, he thought the wizard meant his Earth.
This Earth had a city out of his imagination. A dark city with more smog than New York ever had. A city that crushes spirits before they can even be born. A city home to some of the most extreme villains Peter’s ever seen.~
Where could I go? by know_where_usa *Unfinished*
~When Peter lands in Gotham City, the Joker finds him first.~
Rated T For Traumatised by WibWoby *Unfinished*
~Peter trades in his gallery of trauma for the Bats’ rogue gallery as he adjusts to living in Gotham, losing his entire universe, and living with the ghosts of the Avengers. It’s not a fair trade—Peter is definitely being scammed for the damned shiny Jigglypuff—but at least he is getting out of this alive. Mostly.~
rot with all the burnouts in the cell by magnuschases *Finished*
~In order to be accepted by your coworkers at Wayne Enterprises, you must complete the initiation of a paternity test with a collection of people. But what if one comes back positive?~
Watching Through Fingers by emmacortana *Finished*
~Peter spends his nights out on the streets, a camera wrung around his neck. He takes pictures of Gotham because somebody has to, and dreads the moment he has to return to his bed.
On his way, he sees friends, bats, more than a few super-villains—and oddest of all, Loki, who's redirected his efforts away from "world domination" and into "complete confusion."~
Two Former Hellraisers by emmacortana *Finished*
~When Peter was fourteen, Black Cat goaded Spider-Man into a rooftop cat-and-mouse chase.
Two years, one and a half deaths, and an alternate universe later—nothing has changed. Other than his newly found bat-themed peanut gallery bearing witness to his public humiliation at the hands of one Felicia Hardy.~
Spiderhead by emmacortana *Finished*
~Peter acts like a spider.
The bats have opinions on it.~
Peter the Pizza Guy by Irisen *Unfinished*
~Peter needs money to survive Gotham and picks up a pizza delivery job.~
Existential Crisis Mode by LuciaInTheSky *Unfinished*
~Peter was alone, mid-way through an existential crisis after the Erasure™ and was dreading the upcoming month of May.
Jason was sick of people telling him how he felt. ‘You don’t need us anymore,’ Artemis had told him, as if saying it would make it true. As if Jason needed someone to justify keeping them around. But three weeks back in Gotham and all Jason felt was fucking bored and lonely.~
If Violence is a Virtue ( You Must Be a Saint) by D3ADP00L *Unfinished*
~Peter Parker woke up burning and mournful and angry surrounded by a sky the color of concrete and buildings that towered over his bruised body. A damp pamphlet laid in front of him. "Welcome to Gotham"~
Can I call you home? by Isaxv *Unfinished*
~“This was never your ending kid. Good luck.”
Peter Parker watched the heroes of his universe lose the fight against Ultron. He was supposed to die too, but a strange twist of fate finds him in Gotham City.~

TV Show - Dr. House | House M.D. VIII
We're diving in. Ladies and gentlemen, we are DIVING IN!
The first episode of the fourth season is still a bit of a soft start with a little rock, but the second episode goes full throttle!
So many memories are flooding through the nerve pathways of my brain right now, and it's spinning. Doctors who aren't doctors! Doctors who would rather not be doctors anymore! Doctors who commit suicide! Doctors who fall in love with the best friends of other doctors! (That's the discord between House and Wilson that I mentioned before!) Doctors with children! You'd think we're watching a medical drama!
What I like best here is the fact that they're actually completely revamping the series but somehow not changing anything. So, on one hand, they stay true to the familiar, but on the other hand, they bring in a lot of fresh energy. Plus, the old team isn't entirely gone—Cameron and Chase are still working in the clinic, and Foreman will also be coming back. It won't be long before the two teams mix.
Unfortunately, Amber has a big problem for me in German because she has the same voice as Kes from Star Trek: Voyager. Nothing against the voice, but I find Kes simply dreadful, and unfortunately, because of the voice, it transfers to all the other characters with that voice. But in general, Amber isn't a really likable person either; I don't like her in How I Met Your Mother at all, even though she only appears in one episode there. There's another series I'm currently watching her in, where she was okay, but I can't remember the name of the series right now (maybe it'll come to me later, depending on how well my brain manages it).
Someone I'm very happy to see again is Carmen Argenziano. Of course, I know he's done an incredible amount, but my fondness comes from his appearances in Stargate SG-1. As Sam Carter's father and later as a mediator between humans and the Tok'ra.
Ah, of course, we also need to talk about House's new cane. I don't know who came up with the idea in the series, but it's genius. Flames on a cane, it doesn't get much more '80s/'90s than that. All that's missing on the cane now is a turbocharger and a spoiler!
Since the fourth season is a bit of a fresh start, there isn't much to write about yet, and I'll space out the posts a bit. By now, I have two episodes of Halo to catch up on, and Bullet Train (2022) is now on Netflix, so I definitely need to check that out too.

Tag Game: First 10 Lines Challenge
Rules: Share the first line of your last ten published works or as many as you are able to and see if there are any patterns!
Tagged by @curator-on-ao3 - thank you so much!!
I have not been posting much recently so my last 10 fics span years (yes, years).
Caitlin Todd woke in an uncomfortable bed in a cold room.
Somewhere Beyond the Sea, NCIS, Kate/Gibbs, T
2. The United Airlines flight back from Fresno was long, boring, and cramped.
Mac stared out the window in a trance as the plane descended toward Dulles. The sun had long since set, and the entire city looked like a giant miniature train set, tiny cars moving down the roads as if controlled by some giant invisible hand.
this could be the end, JAG, Harm/Mac, T
3. Harm almost murdered Diane’s killer on a Friday.
He spent most of Saturday staring at the wall, trying to shove down the writhing mass of rope that seemed to have taken up residence in his stomach.
He felt guilty, he realized.
in case i need it when i'm older, JAG, Harm/Mac, G
4.
Say it was the right time To walk away When dreaming takes you nowhere It's time to play
—Playing with the Boys, Kenny Loggins
Maverick raps on the door sharply. When there’s no immediate reply, she shoves her hands in her pockets, where they curl into fists.
This is the most insane plan Penelope “Maverick” Mitchell has ever come up with, and that's saying something.
in for a penny, in for a pound, Top Gun, Ice/fem!Mav, T
5. Carter was perfectly professional all the way back to the tel'tak. She threw him a brief smile as they walked, and he felt his Carter senses light up, like the leaves of a plant on the first day of spring. But her face had stayed completely serious as they maneuvered Maybourne into the tel’tak and she helped him pack up the gear scattered across the campsite (it was laundry day, okay. They should be grateful he wasn’t going commando).
i won't let go 'til the end, Stargate SG-1, Sam/Jack, G
6. It's the kind of summer night that clings to the skin, like the darkness has absorbed the heat of day and is breathing it out onto the world.
a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways, Top Gun, Gen (Maverick and Rooster's father/son relationship), G
7. Tess leans on the side of the register. Wednesdays are always slow, for some reason. Not many people at a supermarket looking to buy balloons for a party or flowers for a date on Wednesday, she supposes. Last week on Wednesday, she'd snuck The Great Gatsby out of her bag and skimmed it while she was waiting for customers. This week, though, she isn't feeling quite as productive. So she people-watches instead.
Rearview Mirror, Stargate SG-1, Sam/Jack, T
8. “What do you want on your gravestone?”
Dearly Loved, Stargate SG-1, Sam/Jack, G
9. Daniel walks into the SGC wearing a jacket labeled O'Neill, causing guards to stare. More guards stare when someone comments and he glances down, "Oh, I must have grabbed the wrong jacket."
Musical Jackets, Stargate SG-1, Gen, G
10. Jack was in the middle of reading a Sky and Telescope article on the latest electronic telescopes when he heard the telltale hum of Carter's engine.
Tensing, he set the magazine aside and waited for the knock he knew was coming. He tried not to think of the blue shine of his ring on her hand. He failed.
A Vein to the Heart, Stargate SG-1, Sam/Jack, G
Apparently, I don't start with dialogue. Which amuses me because dialogue is easiest for me, and most of my stories start off as nothing but dialogue.
I write snappy, action-based beginnings, where a character is *doing* something. Which makes sense because that's what I like to read!
Clearly I need to stop starting the first sentence of a fic with a character's name, because seeing them all lined up like this makes me cringe.
No pressure tagging @sententiousandbellicose @sluttyhenley @redbelles @lannisterdaddyissues @doodledrawreblogs @tommyjop @geneeste and anyone else who sees this and wants to try their hand! <3
#tag games#on writing#this was really fun!#thanks for tagging me curator!#i'm not joking when i say all those names in a row makes me cringe#starry write better challenge

Stargate Universe Live Blogging:
Season 1
I've watched SG-1 and SGA like a billion times but I've never seen SGU so this will be my first watch!
Updates:
- Air (Part 1)
- oooo music score?!?!?! Fucking sick so far, good start good start
- Michael Shanks is in the intro credits?? I'm assuming he's just gonna be like flashbacks or set up cuz I don't believe he's in the show in the show
- that's a funky looking gate
- this is going well so far
- the doctor looks a lot like Izzy from GA
- gonna be weird seeing the dude who plays Rumple in OUT in a different role
- bro is weirdly chill during this
- The dude in the red shirt and hoodie is the only dude I remember from watching part of the first episode when I was a kid
- oh shit, first fatality?
- the dude who came through first reminds me of Dylan O'Brian
- JACK
- are they actually gonna beam him up?
- PFFFFT
- ahhh there's Daniel
- they're doing an intro similar to Atlantis it seems "we're all in a new scary place we don't know and we're all about to die" but "idk how we got here either" edition
- OK THATS A SEX SCENE WASN'T PREPARED FOR THAT
- woah that travel windows around the ship is super cool
- I don't like the Sergeant
- SAM!!!
- ah yes, great 3 count people
- why tf are the Goa'uld even there? Weren't they mostly destroyed by this point?
- Air (Part 2)
- ah yes try to pull open a bulk head door with your hands
- I fucking hate this Sergeant dude so much
- yuck
- he is so gonna die
- ah, can only be sealed from the inside, who's gonna die?
- it's gonna be her dad isn't it

- Rush and Eli in uniform is so silly
- Air (Part 3)
- god damn a 3 parter??
- The communication stones thing is a super interesting aspect
- "oh, look. More sand." XD
- I get that this is unfathomably hard but to spend the maybe final moments you have with your daughter drinking??
- ah yes military man, barge in and give orders about things you know absolutely nothing about while simultaneously putting another man's life while inhibiting his body!
- god I fucking hate Greer
- oh???
- Scott looks so much like John Casey from Chuck rn when he turns to the side
- ah yes everyone ignore the smartest fucking people on this ship
- OKI DOKE
- that's some heavy handed lore dropping lol
- "I have a gun 😃" PFFFFT
- 16?!?!?!?! HOW OLD IS HE IN THIS SCENE CUZ WTF
- THE SOUND SCORE!!!! AHHHH!!!!
- RUN BITCHES RUN!!!
- AHHHH!!!! THIS IS SO INTENSE I LOVE IT
- LET'S GO RUSH AND ELI!!!!
- WOOO!!!
- omfg this show is so good, I can't believe I get to watch a Stargate show for the first time again 😭
- ok so the priest was alive in that scene and died when he was 16 so he was 16 or younger in that scene thank god
- UHHHH WHAT WAS THAT????
- Darkness
- I love that they do the recap stuff with the Kino overlay, very cool
- whatever that dude is trying to tell him is gonna end up being super important to this episode isn't it
- I don't like the flirty woman who was fucking with Scott in the first episode. I hate flirty characterssss
- as far as I remember, Scott is the first outwardly religious Stargate character we've had
- "oh, well, he's had a nervous breakdown sir" "what?" XD
- gosh that shot of the ship was pretty
- I don't like Telford one fucking bit y'all
- gross Eli, gross.
- prettyyyyy
- Eli and Chloe are so cute
- flying into the sun time!
- Light
- please don't be one of those guys Eli, Chloe clearly needs a friend and views you as that, please be content with being a good friend to her
- great, another sex scene
- at least it wasn't as fuckin jarring and graphic as the last one
- IS WRAY GAY????
- Spencer shut the fuck up
- ok ok rare Greer W
- PFFFFT the fact that they just left him on the floor is so funny to me
- bro wants to die naked, ok
- is the Destiny gonna use the sun to power up or something????
- LET'S GOOOOOO
- wonder how they're gonna signal the others to come back
- THIS IS SO SICK
- THIS SHOW IS SO COOL
- he's gonna have them slingshot!!!
- YES!!!! AHHHHH FUCK THIS SHOW IS AWESOME
- HELL YEAH!!!
- Water
- SOME OF THE SAND STUFF GOT ON BOARD OH SHIT
- a lot of chaos and upheaval and fighting is gonna go down before they realize it's the sand stuff taking the water isn't it
- Scott please get a grip, you're on a fucking spaceship on the brink of death constantly, can you maybe focus on that instead of getting laid???
- these space suits look an awful lot like the suits the asgard wore that invaded Atlantis
- that snow shit hurts my eyessss
- oh shit she found the sand thing
- BRO DON'T SHOOT THE DUST YOU IDIOT
- OH FUCK
- Rush is right man, they need those guys getting ice, not trying to solve the alien problem, wtf are they gonna do?
- oh shit
- that rope looks really thin I don't like that
- ok that was really sweet of her, maybe she's ok
- bro his suit is already damaged, give him the torch at this point!
- why would they not chase them to the damn Stargate!!! Send them to the ice planet they'd love it!!
- LET'S GOOOO
- PUT HIM ON THE SLED AND MOVE IT DUDE!
- NOW they wanna try the gateroom thing
- I gotta say it's super cool they have personal DHDs
- :(
- Earth
- this one has gotta deal with food right?
- MAN I KNEW THEY HAD A THING
- motherfucker really went groveling to his damn wife while wanting another woman and probably having a god damn affair with her before
- bro just disconnect!!! They can't do anything about it!!
- wtf was that face he made XD
- "he misses you too" 😭
- god I need someone to strangle that man
- bro, Young, LEAVE HER ALONE
- BRO FUCKING HER IN SOMEONE ELSE'S BODY???? DOES NO ONE UNDERSTAND THE FUCKING CONCEPT OF CONCENT?!?!?!?
- I hate that guy but he doesn't deserve that, no one deserves that
- NOOOO DON'T SMOOCH HIM GIRL YOU'RE DRUNK
- YOU GUYS ARE BESTIESSSS
- ya know, if the ancients had the kind of tech to harness star energy like this a long ass time ago, why tf didn't they build bases powered by them in space or something? Why not build more ships like this?
- maybe next time you'll listen to Rusj you fucking idiots!!
- of course they're running like cowards now
- ooooooooooooh that was his plan!!! Imfg Rush you sly dog!!!
- honestly I feel like they should've just pretended to be dead, Earth is doing fuck nothing for them
- y'all I swear to fucking god if this dude impersonates Young and sleeps with his wife I'm going to FUCKING LOSE IT
- Time
- man they really be recapping every episode
- why tf did they bring her to go to the alien planet, she's got literally zero experience and also has zero reason to be there
- I don't like the fact that this episode is being filmed "found footage style". That usually has people dying
- space malaria?
- y'all this soundtrack is STRESSING ME OUT
- why tf did they bring such a big team anyway?? Why wouldn't they do the normal 4 team as a preliminary?
- WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE
- WHAT?!?!?!
- WHAT?!?!?!
- bro what the fuck did I just watch
- this is so interesting omfg
- this Eli & T.J. convo is so wholesome 😭
- guys 😭
- man I hate that I feel for Greer rn
- these things look like really weird Goa'uld
- oh man, this is... this is rough
- did the bite make him like, shielded from them like the iratus bug did for bug Sheppard? Like he's infected now and they think he's one of them? Or did they just not attack him cuz he wasn't moving?
- uhhhh what the fuck
- same Eli, same
- oh shit she's dead :(
- ow ow ow ow ow 😭
- Eli you're gonna make my cry dude
- oh god T.J. is crying GUYS
- guys I can't take this 😭
- CHLOE IS DEAD?!?!?!? NO!! NO!!!!!
- guys
- they're gonna go back in time and save her right???? They're gonna go back right??!??!?!
- ok yeah everyone but Scott is dead they have to go back
- LET'S GO SCOTT, LOOK AT YOU USING THAT BRAIN!!!
- A 2 PARTER?!?!?! AHHHHHH!!!
- Life
- not a 2 parter?? Man that's lame!!
- y'all there is so much sex happening in this show and I am like 90% nobody brought condoms sooooo, someone is gonna get pregnant soon I'm calling it rn
- Spencer is stressing me out, he is a disaster waiting to happen istg
- ok so he's not trying to impersonate him but bro is 1000% trying to fuck Young's wife and ruin his life. I hate this guy
- I cannot be bothered to learn his name so I will be calling him Colonel Fuckwad from now on
- the dude who Greer shot on that desert planet is played by the same dude who plays that dude at the hotel who gets killed by that wraith in the Vegas episode of SGA I think
- woah was that an ancient control chair??
- oooooh no it's an early version of the head sucking info banks from SG1
- oh shit she had the kid and didn't tell him
- that reunion was so wholesome 😭
- I don't remember if Sharon is mentioned in SG-1 or if this is the first time we find out about her, regardless they're adorable
- I'm sorry it just irks me so much hot fucking aggressive Greer is all the damn time
- :(
- uhhhh wtf
- please kick Colonel Fuckwad's ass, PLEASEEEE
- damn
- Justice
- LET'S GO CHLOE
- come on Wray, this is bullshit
- i just realized that Wray and Sharon have matching necklaces 😭
- "why?" "My documentary" XD
- that's a shuttle like the one on the Destiny!!
- bruh what do you mean it's not ancient, it looks identical!!
- damn it Rush
- great way to waste a super fucking important opportunity guys!
- WHAT?!?!?!?!
- woah, pretty sky
- great job Young, abandon objectively one of the most important people on this expedition because of a personal grudge.
- Space
- at least Wrey is suspecting him of something he did do this time
- yikes XD
- omfg the dude who plays Caine is also Fargo's dad from Eureka XD also I realized that Wrey is also played by the same person who plays Senator Wren too. I kept calling her that and I didn't know why
- ok I had to rewind cuz I had no idea what is happening
- I'm assuming this is an accident, that the signal got crossed??
- cuz, wtf is thattttt
- are we finally gonna get some alien interactions???
- WOW that is menacing AF
- imagine being completely alone in the galaxy, like, COMPLETELY alone and then BOOM. ALIENS. Horrifying!
- oh shit our first space battle!!!
- YUUUUP THOSE ARE THE SHIPS WE SAW WAY BACK COME OFF THE DESTINY!!!
- yeah!! You feeling good about your decision Young?? Biting you in the ass yet???
- ah yes Chloe, wander around! Great idea!
- AH YES CHLOE, STAND IN THE OPENING, GREAT IDEA!
- fantastic, now she's been taken
- cooooool
- he looks so silly in that outfit XD
- RUSH?!?!?!?!
- BITCH YOU BETTER GET HIM OUT ISTG
- OH FUCK
- GOD DAMN IT RUSH
- Ok at least he's freeing Chloe
- how are you gonna explain this one away Young?
- why is he covering for him?
- ah, ok
- aw James :(
- Divided
- god damn that was a sick sequence
- oh shit
- I gotta say I really love how broad the cast is compared to the other SG shows, thr amount of characters just fits so well
- so were there originally 2 ships parked on the Destiny? Cuz we saw one fly off towards the beginning
- also, why, if they could cut into the ship like that the whole time, did they not go inside if they want the ship so bad?
- way to be subtle Brody
- I'm sorry but I cannot take it seriously when they do that fuckin Office style zoom in XD
- poor Eli, always getting put in the middle :(
- I mean yeah this shit shouldn't be run by the military, an operation like this should be like Atlantis. A civilian in charge to make sure the welfare of everyone is taken care of, and a military officer to make sure everyone is protected and to take action against military threats
- oh fug
- so he's ok?? What happened???
- great yeah, prove their point by brutalizing them! Great move guys! Super convincing!
- Faith
- it really sucks we don't get a cool intro, just fuckin recaps every single episode
- this is gonna be some weird shit isn't it
- "we don't even know if it's poisonous!" "We will" XD
- oh what the fuck is thaaaaat
- ominous as shit
- girl why tf would Wrey even go, what skills does she have that would apply to an off world mission? Same with Chloe, why tf is she going
- off-world missions like this should be military and scientists
- Eli just makes friends with everyone man, he's such a sweetheart and I love him. He's 100% my favorite character
- this episode is really hopeful rn and I just really hope it stays that way
- T.J. is pregnant isn't she
- man I KNEW someone was gonna get pregnant
- and the fact that it's Young's (I'm assuming) is gonna be, YEESH
- they should dig up some small plants and bring them aboard. Man can you imagine how much some foliage would make that ship feel so much less desolate??
- uh oh, beam in the sky, that's ominous af
- honestly it makes sense that this planet was made as some sort of alien venus fly trap. Luring people in.
- Scott 😭
- :(
- we're never gonna find out who was right are we :(
- they brought back seeds right? I feel like they should've (if they didn't) prioritized bringing back water, soil, and seeds. Then they could use organic waste as a constant fertilizer source to grow more food instead of just getting the already grown stuff
- Human
- oh? Rush lore?
- I recognize that blonde kid that stood up and answered from something
- bro :(
- Daniel!!
- huh????
- ah
- got Chloe and Eli are so fucking cute I love them so muchhhh
- ah yes, go into the labyrinth with no markings to find your way back out
- bro, Greer, lighten tf up
- his wife reminds me of the woman who plays Emma Swan so much from some angles
- THAT is a big ass spider
- dead wife montage time
- ya know Rush, maybe you should listen to the Destiny NPC telling you to go be with your wife. Maybe, just maybe that will get you to the answer
- oh dear that's a big hole
- ok so I lost access to the show for like, several weeks so I'm coming back mid episode with a general recollection of what's happening
- "I know how much you loved me. Stop taking it out on everyone else" 😭
- that can't be it, they can't really be left there???
- Lost
- sad Greer backstory time
- now that's what I call an alien creature!!!
- aww, he's being supportive, yay!
- they should've waited :(
- WHAT?!?!?!
- Sabotage
- her wife is amazing. Disabled people aren't a burden, but she is suddenly taking care of her wife in someone else's disabled body and she has not once let her wife feel like a burden. She offers to do everything the caretaker does and she does it with a smile. She makes her wife feel loved no matter what and as a disabled person it makes me wanna cry
- bro seriously with the using other people's bodies for sexual shit????
- thank you for saying no Nick
- Franklin :(
- what is happeninggggg
- uhhh where'd he go?
- Pain
- alrighty
- he's cheating on Chloe???? Seriously??? Fuck you Scott
- bro what the hell Scott???
- WHAT THE HELL???
- ok what the fuck is happening
- ok so everyone is somehow seeing their biggest anxiety or something?
- are they not gonna check the rest for it??? Like Chloe, Greer, and Eli????
- ah hell
- wdym "all the ticks are accounted for" how tf would you know???
- Subversion
- I think we all knew that guy was no good
- awww baby shower 😭
- Daniel!!!
- Jack is on the Destiny!!!!
- Incursion (Part 1)
- bro what???
- ok so he really was mind controlled, I feel a little bad about calling him Colonel Fuckwad now
- Sam!!! Man we've gotten 3 of the og 4!!!
- BRO SHE CANT BE DEAD
- ok ok she's not dead
- I love Eli and Chloe so much 😭
- Incursion (Part 2)
- "what's happening?" "I don't know Koz I'm up to my elbows in someone's body right now" XD
- ok they're finally figuring out Chloe and Eli aren't with the hostages!
- I see they're reusing stargate actors. Dude is from "Runner" in SGA
- I'm glad she said something
- ah hell
- GO ELI COME ON YOU GOT THIS
- TJ :(
- oh god, someone is not gonna make it out of this alive
- THATS THE CLIFFHANGER!?!?!?!? BRUH

Joy of Life E1 E37 liveblogging
watching for the 1st time, don't tell me secrets ;)
Fan Xian carried a war banner all those miles just to start shit. I really admire his dedication to the troll lifestyle
the emperor hassling beiqi with his border troops to back up Fan Xian is too cute. what an asshole.
so ML is wuxia advancing as he fights big players
Yes let's meet the emperor!
lmao she just wants an update on Dream of Red Chamber. I get her. WIP are so frustrating
as a guy with memory of modern china, he shouldn't be too surprised at a female emperor. China had one.
ML very respectful of the dowager. Who clearly is the power behind the throne
emperor wants to chat w him solo..does she ALSO need a rescue? damn this man does not have a big enough carriage to hold y'all
saintess just exposing him 😭😂😭😂
Fan Xian is the best when he's a flailing dork
She DOES need a rescue
(the empress dowager is hot btw)
They keep using the male pronoun for the emperor but I can't figure if it's a emperor role-based thing or actually a chosen gender. (Verbally there's no gender attached to ta but the english subs say 'he' and the mandarin subs are using 他 instead of 她)
he just invited the saintess to poison him, he really DOES want to make friends
official meeting of the Fan Xian's Mom fan club at Taiping Villa 🎣
Emperor was correct that the Dowager Empress party is not gonna let him take Yan Bingyuan home without a lot of quality schemes
We actually get a tiny flashback to prior generation with who I presume is Marvolous Mom! !!! I note that she feeds all 3 of them. (JOL still playing coy about who is the real bio dad.) This drama is obsessed with nothing more than refusing to show us people's faces so I'm not surprised we only get her back 😒
Part of me really wants to believe that the whole fishing in a lake with no fish, and then there IS fish is an homage to Stargate but idk how popular it was with VPN savvy cn screenwriters
Yan Bingyuan's life is in Gao Baokun's hands? RIP
Luckily he's obviously a decoy

I decided after my second SGA watch through to watch SG-1 and do this whole chronological order thing.
Over the weekend, I got to the divergence between the two shows and was able to start SGA over again. Guys, I'm going home!
I've really grown to love SG-1, but Atlantis will always be my Gater home. I didn't think I would have that many thoughts, because I thought all the thoughts last time through. (Y'all have got to be tired of my meta by now.)
I was wrong.
First off, it was supremely rewarding to watch this in chronological order, to go from SG-1 to SGA. It's like I've read the other half of the story, heard the other side of the conversation. I know Daniel and Jack at this point of their life and what they've been through. I know Elizabeth. I know that she's the anti-military who stood up for the military to the vice-president. I know she's earned their trust.
John "I like Antarctica" Sheppard. Of course he does. Also I love that he goes into the Stargate program basically blind, but he goes. It really shows he has nothing on earth and no one.
Highlights include:
Weir says: We need him. Everyone else with the Ancient gene can train to get better. John Sheppard does it naturally. I love that she picked Sheppard. She saw his potential.
When he walks into Atlantis, I always think: The city that lights up for Sheppard just the way Elizabeth left it for him.
When Teyla says Summner looks right through her and Sheppard asks if he does, and she says no.🥰
Okay, so when Sheppard picked up Teyla's necklace, did he activate it? Because 3 drones show up right away.
They all feel so light, buoyant. Even when you know Sheppard is here because he has no home, he's worlds away from the man he is in Doppelganger. And the same with Rodney. Rodney isn't really even stressed yet. He's kinda calm. Even when he knows they're running out of power he's not freaking out, not really freaking out. (So, does that mean the better you know Rodney, the more he's willing to whine at you?)
Also, the cinematography stood out to me because it's often framing Sheppard and Rodney in the same shot, like a hint at their friendship, or is panning between Elizabeth, Rodney, and Sheppard, hinting that they're the crew, the team, the family.
Also, Peter. Sigh.

20 questions for fic writers podficcers
Thank you for tagging me @gracieryder and @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove, I feel so included <3
How many works do you have on ao3? 1,559 - which I believe is 1,208 podfic, 179 vids, and 163 fics
What's your total Ao3 word count? 615,783
What fandoms do you create for? I have works in 450 fandoms so I’m not listing them all so here are top couple of fandoms by work-type: - Vid: Nirvana in Fire, The King: Eternal Monarch, and 9-1-1 - Podfic: Yuri on Ice, Teen Wolf, and The Raven Cycle - Fic: Smallville, Stargate Atlantis, and Gundam Wing
Top 5 Works by Kudos: Fics dominate sorting by kudos so here's top two of each category: - Fic: The Rock and The River this Spirited Away fic wins out by a large margin, bubbling up is another Spirited Away fic and in second place. - Vid: Bury a Friend is my most kudos’d vid (Untamed) and Applause is second most kudos (Untamed RPF) though that is my most-watched vid on YT. - Podfic: through a window softly by impossibletruths, an Untamed fic for which I did a lot of music mixing is my top kudos’d podfic, so much so that it actually gets in my AO3 top 5 kudos list which is wild. The Absolutely True Story of the Yiling Patriarch: A Manifesto in Many Parts by aubreyli is in second place.
Do you respond to comments? I try!
What is the work you've made with the angstiest ending? - Fic: All my fics are neutral or positive endings (I think?) - Vid: this TKEM AU where Yeong dies - Podfic: I enjoy narrating big emotions so I have a lot of people-cry-in-this-fic grief/angst and self worth issues stories but often they end on at least an uplifting note. Possibly something in Attack on Titan or X-Men had a and-they-stay-sad ending but I can’t remember something specific to for-sure point at.
What's the work you've made with the happiest ending? So many happy endings (both the emotional kind and the porn kind). I’m not sure I could point to a ‘happiest’ since a lot of them are very happy.
Do you get hate on your works? I’ve had some weird comments but not particularly hate, hopefully that will continue to be true.
Do you create smut? Yup, at least with podfic and fic.
Craziest crossover? I wrote a heralds of valdemar / lord of the rings fic when I was just starting out in fandom.
Have you ever had a work stolen? I hope not.
Have you ever had a work inspired by your works? Very excitingly, people have made vids inspired by my vids which is the absolute coolest thing (Nothing by @nubreed73, and Mei Changsu is Climbing the Mountain by @sandalwoodbox)
I have had fic translated, which is neat.
People have made podfics of my fic which is just delightful and makes me so, so happy as a fellow podficcer.
I've also had people make me fanart/coverart which is super cool!
Have you co-recorded/co-written/co-vidded before? I’ve done a podfic collab where we co-wrote the story together and then recorded the story together. I’ve been part of multivoice collabs of things I did not participate in writing for with both in-person/live recording and recorded separately then edited together. I’ve also done oral not!fic collabs.
I've done collab vidding with @sandalwoodbox
All time favorite ship? I can't decide. I tend to have one OTP per fandom I'm into, but see fandom list it's too long to pick just one ship.
What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I’ve got a variety of old files for fics I never got a permission response on that will just live in my computer forever. Some are complete, some needing editing, some are partially completed and all abandoned due to lack of response. I learned my lesson and now do not record unless I have already received permission or the author has BP.
What are your podficcing/writing/vidding strengths? - Podfic: Consistency? Enthusiasm. Emotion (I hope).
- Vid: Picking decent songs?
What are your podficcing/writing/vidding weaknesses? - Podfic: Accents, words not in english, cover art.
- Writing: Doing it without a challenge/exchange
- Vid: I don't know how to do a lot of technical stuff so I'm sort of coasting on my current skill level without challenging myself much.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? For podfic I try! Sometimes I don’t know what I don’t know (see past mispronunciation of French where I thought I knew what I was doing T_T). But having been in into anime, c-dramas, k-dramas, and a variety of fandoms with various languages involved I know I will give it my best shot, possibly fail, and it will take me 2-3x as long to record, but sometimes I can be proud of what I’ve come up with on the far end and that’s nice. Forvo, google translate, and finding friends/acquaintances I know who speak the language have all be helpful.
First fandom you podficced/wrote in/vidded? - Podfic: Spiderman/Smallville crossover: 2008.
- Vid: Eastwick (TV)
- Fic: Heralds of Valdemar
Favorite work you've made? - Podfic: The Ion Arc by Sunhawk - I started recording this Gundam Wing story in 2008 and finished in 2019 and it clocks in at over 80 hours. This was my labor of love for just over a decade and will always hold a very important place in my heart. Have I re-listened to it, no. Do I think it’s the best podfic I’ve ever made, probably not, doesn’t matter, still my favorite. - Vid: I’m not sure how to pick so I’ll just go with my co-vid with @sandalwoodbox Hug Cats! - Fic: I’ll follow the consensus and say The Rock and The River for this.
Tagging - feel free to take up this invitation to answer some questions or not as you see fit!: @sandalwoodbox, @revolutionaryjo, @rollerskatinglizard

for the past few days of watching stargate, i had this thought that this show is so damn consistent. there is nothing bad. lets say i want to recommend tng to someone. i would tell them to be wary of season 1, and to stick it out. but here? no such thing.
but now after watching "New Order", the consistency was kinda slightly broken. i was actually super onboard of having a woman, and a treaty mediator as head of sgc. then they switch the actress, and then they make jack do it?? i dont know. was there a lot of drama for a woman being a leader or something? what happened? i genuinely thought it was a good idea. im about 50/50 on o'neill being the head of sgc. i wonder who is gonna replace him on his team. because dont tell me that he will still go on every mission??? that would be insane haha, thats like if picard went on every away mission. would be stupid af.
anyway, gonna start watching atlantis now.

It's Not Safe For You Here (Stargate Atlantis: Carson Beckett x tiny!reader)
a/n: behold, folks: my very first commission! requested by the wonderful and lovely @blueskimmer! i love how this turned out and i'm very happy i got to put this together for them 💞 i hope you all enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You just couldn’t believe your luck.
It usually went something like this: A Wraith ship came zooming out of the ring with that weird glowing light, taking as many people as it felt like. Within minutes, it was gone. It came through every so often, but because the giant village you called home was small, by human standards, the ship’s visits were few and far between. In the last couple of years, you had only seen seven, maybe eight, ring activations.
Of course a ship of unfathomable size descended on your home in the middle of your midnight borrowing trip.
It was pure, unadulterated chaos. People were screaming, dirt was flying, and you couldn’t see a thing. Whenever the Wraith came, you situated yourself in your little bunker until daylight, and this time was no different. You just had to climb down the water well and get to it.
What you didn’t fully realize was that a giant ship meant that there were Wraith on the ground as well as in the air. Debris was flying from every angle as weapons were fired and houses were set ablaze.
All it took was one errant rock to send you tumbling down.
It happened in an instant—so fast that you don’t even remember getting plunked. It was a pebble, really, something that wouldn’t have normally thrown you, but it came flying at such a breakneck speed that it immediately knocked you out, and off your feet.
When you came to, you had to blink away the light that flooded your vision. You groaned and tried to sit up, but immediately fell down when you realized you couldn’t. Your arm was twisted in a way that was not normal. You silently cursed yourself before realizing you had no choice but to get up and run. Things were hitting the ground at a rapid pace, and you had fallen off the well and were out in the open. You couldn’t believe nothing had happened to you while you were passed out.
So for the rest of the night, you stayed hidden behind the cover of grass and leaves. You managed to situate yourself underneath some fallen rock so if anything came tumbling down from above, you would hopefully be safe.
It was torture. You watched as hundreds of villagers dwindled down into a few dozen in a span of hours as the Wraith stunned them and dragged them back to their ship. The thought of getting snatched up by one of those aliens was enough to send you into a panic.
You didn’t realize you had eventually fallen asleep when the noise finally died down, but before you knew it, you were jolted awake by the sound of voices that cut through your ringing ears.
Voices you didn’t recognize.
“Oh, no…” Sheppard said as soon as his eyes fell on the scene before him. They were set to start trade with this planet—in exchange for some medicine, they would receive bountiful crops for the mainland. They certainly didn’t anticipate a culling happening in the week since they had been here.
“You’ve got to be kidding!” Rodney cried. “When did this happen?”
“It looks like they were just here,” Ronon observed. “Some of these buildings are still smoldering.”
“Oh dear,” Carson mumbled. It wasn’t often he got to witness the destruction of the Wraith firsthand, and he almost couldn’t believe that just a week ago, this was a bustling village with hundreds of people walking about. Guess he and his medical supplies weren’t needed on this mission anymore.
As the others began to drift off into different parts of the village to investigate, Carson, left with nothing to do, started to aimlessly wander toward the water well in the center of the destroyed town square.
That’s when he saw you.
He gasped to himself, blinking a few times to make sure he wasn’t just hallucinating. Right on the ground, gaping up at him in shock and fear, was a tiny little human.
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Truthfully, he was surprised they didn’t encounter more species in Pegasus that weren’t human, but never in a million years would he have anticipated a humanoid creature as small as a mouse. He wasn’t sure if it was just the aftermath of a culling, but a closer look revealed to him how disheveled you were. Your clothes—more like rags—were draped over your figure like loose robes, and your shoes were nothing more than thick, makeshift pieces of cloth. Your hair was unruly at best, and your skin was caked with dirt, scrapes and bruises.
“Oh my god…” he whispered with equal parts concern and amazement. “What… what are you?”
You were shaking so hard you couldn’t stop yourself. Everything in your body hurt like hell, but it didn’t matter. At the absolute worst time possible, you had been spotted. He was wearing a thick vest with what looked like a million little pockets, and he was carrying a giant case that was unlike anything you had ever seen.
In your half-lucid state, you got the bright idea to try and hide from the giant. You managed to get on your feet, but you couldn’t take more than a few steps before your legs turned to jelly and you collapsed. Instinctively, Carson lurched forward, and in the disarray of it all, you shrieked and twisted your body away to brace for anything the giant might do.
At your sudden movement, Carson recoiled. Did he do something wrong? Was he scaring you? That was a stupid question. Of course he was scaring you. The doctor knew he had to help, but he also knew he couldn’t just scoop you up and take you back to Atlantis, no matter how much he wanted to. He had to make sure you weren’t so terrified of him first.
“Hey, hey…” he said gently, trying to mask his own shaking voice. He cringed at how big he felt trying to talk to you, so he slowly crouched down, not missing the way your eyes widened as he got closer. “I’m not going to hurt you, little one. My name’s Carson Beckett, and I’m a doctor. I just want to help.”
You could only stare blankly at this human with an incredibly bizarre accent. You knew he was trying to make you feel better, but a doctor? The ones that poke and prod and touch? Nuh-uh. No way.
“I promise, I won’t hurt you,” Carson said again. He felt like it needed repeating. “It’s not safe for you here. Let me take you back to Atlantis and we can—”
“NO!” you shrieked suddenly, surprising both you and him. You had no idea what Atlantis was, but you knew it couldn’t be good. “N-no, ple-please… I…”
Carson had subconsciously put his hand on his knee to rest, but once he noticed the way your eyes were tracking its every movement, he sheepishly pulled it back.
“Look, I know you must be scared down there. I know I would be if I were in your shoes,” he started. “But you’re in bad shape, dear, and if the Wraith come back again, you’ll be stuck here with nowhere to go.”
Your stomach dropped when he said that. You couldn’t even fathom the Wraith coming back like that again. There’s no way I would survive.
“Let me help you, and you’ll be back on your feet in no time,” he said softly, putting a smile on his face to show he was friendly. “I can take you somewhere safe and fix you all up.”
You instantly shook your head no, and when the doctor cocked his eyebrow, you knew you had to defend yourself.
“I… please, I can’t… I can’t go anywhere with you.”
Carson had to bite his tongue to stop himself from gushing over how cute your tiny voice was. “Why not, love?”
“Because… you’re a human.”
He sniffed an amused laugh before a feeling of unease washed over him. The fact that this little guy needed to distinguish themself as non-human was intriguing.
“What’s so wrong with being human?” he implored.
At that, you clammed up. After years and years of living in secret, you weren’t about to blurt out the borrower code now.
Carson sighed. You were clearly frightened out of your wits, and it didn’t seem like talking would get him very far. Maybe if he could get through to you just how bad your injuries were, you would be more inclined to trust him.
“It’s alright that you don’t want to chit-chat, but as a doctor, I can’t just stand by and let your injuries go untreated! You could be seriously hurt, and I have a responsibility to help you, even if... even if you are just a wee lad who can fit into my pocket!”
You were surprised at his sudden outburst—and amused at being called a “wee lad”—but he was right. You were badly injured, and you didn’t have the means to fix yourself, let alone hunt for food, water and shelter in this state. At this rate, you’d be dead in a week anyway.
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, mentally preparing yourself for what you were about to say.
“…Okay.”
Carson perked up. “Okay what?”
“Okay… you can help me.”
A grin grew across the doctor’s face. You clenched your jaw as his hand gently descended palm-up next to you, eagerly awaiting your arrival onto it. You gawked at it in horror—his fingers were taller than your body, and his palm came up to your ankles—but there was no going back now.
Carson’s breath hitched as you dragged yourself onto his palm, tiny hands pressing deep into his skin for support. He was sure that he’d never been more nervous than he was right now—your life was literally in his hands. He stayed surprisingly still, even through your struggle to get your legs moving without being in crippling pain. Your form was so small in his hand, and yet, it was like he has the most important task in the world. He could feel your every little movement, down to your deep breaths and trembles. His heart fluttered with each and every one of them.
Once you were situated, he took a breath. Your eyes were trained on the ground, refusing to look up and deal with just how big he was.
“I’m going to stand up now,” he warned. “Are you ready?”
A tiny, nervous nod. His heart fluttered again.
You had to close your eyes when he stretched out to his full height—you had never changed altitudes so fast before. In a moment of panic, you reached out and grabbed onto the closest thing for support, which happened to be Caron’s thumb. He let out a small Oh!, which just made both of you blush.
Grabbing his medical kit with his free hand, he briskly, yet smoothly, made his way over to a now-empty house to give you some privacy. He pushed away his feelings of unease at the reality of the situation to focus on the task at hand.
Placing his kit on one side of the table, he laid his palm down on the other, his expression soft.
“It’s okay, you’re safe here,” he reassured you, noticing how you nervously eyed the new landscape.
His mouth hung slightly agape as you ambled off his hand, utterly fascinated at something so small moving around. He couldn’t even fathom what this place looked like to you right now.
You watched with wary eyes as he opened his impossibly large case and began to take out tools you had never seen before. He quickly glanced down at you and frowned at your sudden change of expression. He quickly realized just how scary his instruments must look to you.
“Don’t worry,” he stated, “I don’t need to use all of these. I’m mainly looking for… these.” He pulled out some gauze and tape and set them both aside.
“Do you have a name, little one?” he asked suddenly. He supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised when you didn’t answer. He began snipping off small pieces of gauze. “My team and I came here through the stargate hoping to trade, but…” he trailed off. Not only did he want to forget about the culling, but he especially didn’t want to think about you witnessing it. The thought of being so small during something so destructive made him want to vomit.
He shook off his anxiety and continued. “Can I at least ask how you got so banged up?”
You kept your eyes trained on the dents and scratches of the old wood you sat on. “I fell.”
“Fell?” Carson repeated. You merely nodded. “From where? When? How long had you been on the ground?”
You opened your mouth to respond, but no words came out. Your jaw was quivering at just how many questions this guy was asking. He wanted so much information, and you weren’t even willing to give up your name.
Carson pursed his lips. These were all standard questions he’d ask any patient, but he had to keep reminding himself that you were not just any patient. So he decided to keep his inquiries simple.
“So,” he sighed. “What hurts, love?”
You sniffed a laugh. What didn’t?
Carson saw your expression and gave you a small smile. “Right. Sorry. Stupid question, huh?”
You had to admit, it was fascinating watching him move around. He was snipping off pieces of that… whatever it was… and carefully laying them down. His gaze kept flickering between you and whatever he was doing. He didn’t even hesitate.
“Would you say anything’s broken?” he tried. He was still hoping for a verbal answer, but he settled for the impossibly small nod you gave him. Another heart flutter.
“You’re going to have to give me specifics,” he said with a small laugh. He gave you another look-over and frowned—you were wringing your hands and avoiding eye contact at all costs.
It seemed that he had a little more work to do than normal.
“Hey,” he started, putting the scissors down. He spotted a rickety stool nearby and pulled it over, taking a cautious seat as you gawked up at him. He leaned down, still in awe at how everyday objects simply towered over you. “You’re doing great, dear. I know you don’t want to talk to me, but just being here is very brave of you, you know.”
You looked up with a half-bewildered, half-flattered expression. There was this twinkle in your eyes as you tried to suss out how genuine this human was, and it was like you could see your own fascination mirrored in Carson’s own softly curious gaze.
“I’m serious!” he continued. “God knows if the roles were reversed, I’d probably have passed out by now. It can’t be easy being so… small in a giant world, I imagine.”
You stared at him in amazement. How could he possibly know what it’s like? What kind of giant would even try and empathize? That’s not what humans did in the stories you were told. Giants would snatch you up, stick you in a jar and torture you for fun. This one… this one was the exact opposite.
And that meant something to you.
“Kona.”
At the very sound of your voice, Carson felt his cheeks flush red. You were so adorable it hurt.
“What was that?”
“Kona. My-my name.” You cringed at how helpless you sounded. “You asked me for my name.”
“Kona…” Carson repeated. “What a lovely name.”
Your face went hot. Why did his compliments mean so much to you? You barely knew him.
“…I think my arm might be broken.”
“Oh, dear,” Carson mumbled. “Look, love, the best I can do right now is wrap it up a bit so you don’t aggravate it anymore…. but I’m afraid I can’t do much more unless I take you back to Atlantis.”
A pause.
“I know you don’t trust me, but I think you know as well as I do that it’s just not safe to stay here anymore. You could get hurt even more, or worse.” He gave it a moment for his words to sink in, and he could tell you understood. “Everything is destroyed here. There’s no reason to stay.” Another pause. “Please, Kona.”
Your heart skipped a beat when he said your name. You were a borrower that lived by yourself in a giant village on a strange planet—nobody ever said your name that wasn’t you. But the way this human said it… it had meaning. A purpose. Like he loved the way it sounded and knew how well it fit you.
You had never felt this way before.
“Okay,” you quavered, trying not to sound so scared this time. “I’ll go with you.”
It took Carson only a few minutes to pack up his things. Instead of trying to do it himself, he insisted that you wrap the gauze around your own arm, and he made sure to show you—from a distance, of course—the proper way to do it.
Climbing on his hand the second time was not nearly as petrifying as the first. Gripping his thumb seemed to be the easiest way to hold steady, but Carson didn’t mind. He thought it was the cutest thing in the world.
“This is probably the last thing you want to hear, but I came to this planet with four other people,” he explained as he sauntered out of the house. “And the place we’re going… it’s pretty big, even to me.” He chuckled at the fact that he just said that. “There will be a lot of people there, and you might have to meet quite a few of them. Are you okay with that?”
From his hand, it was like you were seeing this planet in a completely new light. Everything was destroyed here, but at least from this vantage point, it didn’t seem so bad anymore. Maybe this isn’t so bad after all.
“Yeah,” you finally replied after a somber moment. For the first time in a long time, you found yourself smiling as you turned your head around and looked up at Carson. He was beaming right back down at you.
“I think I’m okay with that.”

Last song I listened to: "Summer Skin" by Death Cab for Cutie
Currently watching: Honestly? Nothing. I'm always in a state of "going to watch more Stargate," and I'm about to start season 3 of Star Trek TOS and DS9 in my rewatch of each, but I haven't had the time and energy I want to give to it.
Currently obsessed with: Other than boring things like money (because everything is expensive and RL is annoying) though obsessed is the wrong word, more like stressed, I'm going to say the podfic of iridan's "A Simple Thing." Every time Din is like "oh Boba is cool, I don't know how to define this feeling, we're friends right?" and then Boba has a moment where he dies a little and is just like "Sure, we're friends I won't burden you with the fact that my feelings are deeper than that," and then both of them keep discovering that the things they assumed about the other are completely wrong and they have to come back to the drawing board like, "well this relationship is not as contained as previously thought and is leaking into our working relationship," and then someone calls Din Boba's loyal dog massiff and Din's just like "that's fair, I don't mind it at all," or when anyone insults Boba and Din is like "STFU right NOW or I'm gonna cut a bitch," I'm literally just leaning my head back and screaming. I'm not usually someone who listens to books but this podfic is fantastic, especially because when I read (or especially reread) something I tend to skip over things, especially scenes I know the resolution of (like most fight scenes), but listening to it I have to listen to all of it and I can't skip ahead so I'm finding things I hadn't noticed about the fic before. Every chapter is like 1-2 hours long, it's a mini-vacation I give myself to sit back and listen. 💕💕💕💕
