It's a social register I've watched develop on Tumblr over the last decade.

Get a bunch of neurodivergent people who like infodumping together, but suck at indicating tone and are using a medium that makes said indication more difficult. We may have issues with rejection. Together, we developed strategies to maximize our chances of getting to talk about our special interests!

It's a style of communication I rarely see outside of reblog chains (longer posts that are mostly discussion). It assumes that the other person might misinterpret you, and you might completely miss their point. Interpreting everything in good faith is your only hope, and you provide as much context as possible so that they can do the same.

It's also a waving banner saying, "I'm not one of those 'piss on the poor' ¹ bad faith people, it's actually worth the effort to talk to me!" Because it gets really tiring to argue with someone who isn't actually listening, but we're not always great at figuring out if someone is listening.

I think it's neat!
