How I fell in love with the Trigun franchise.

This essay ist mostly intended for those who know at least one installment of the Trigun franchise and are wondering if they should check out the others, but mostly it's about the personal journey I had with this series. It's not meant to analyze the series in any deep fashion, because I think that would take weeks or months and several rewatches/rereads.

It's just about my feelings.

I wrote this on a whim but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Consider it a love letter. Also because it is inevitable, this contains heavy spoilers, especially for Trigun Stampede, you have been warned.

Trigun Stampede was a series I was actually pretty interested in, when it was announced. A reboot of a big name that is often mentioned in the same breath as Cowboy Bebop, which I hadn't seen yet either, but everyone had some kind of big respect for it, so it mattered.

Then it was even being animated by one of the most promising studios in recent years. Studio Orange, who are the runner-ups for 3D-anime with their amazing blend of 2D-animation and CGI.

So what could possibly go wrong here? At first absolutely nothing.

The pilot episode had everyone on the edge of their seats and left most people flabbergasted. I still consider it one of the best pilots I've seen in recent years. It looked gorgeous and sold me on the main character pretty quickly.

But the main goal seemed ….not too complex..... and even a bit too…. straightforward for my taste.

An evil twin brother.

A simple good versus evil story, I thought.

Then episode 3 came along and introduced the villain doing his glorious evil deeds in an extravagant fashion. But something was off. Our main character was blamed by the townspeople, even though he meant for the best? But you couldn't even be mad at the people because they were understandably devastated? The story all of a sudden got more layers. But I didn't get how important that dilemma would become in the long run.

I didn't get it.

I didn't get how much it would make me feel…..

The next episodes I enjoyed moderately.

I was watching weekly, so I enjoyed some of them more then others. I still was a bit irritated by the plot, even if I quite enjoyed the setting.

But they were seemingly wandering aimlessly on that desert planet.

I mean, eventually Vash and Knives would have to face each other…..but I didn't get what the story was trying to do until then.

Even when Wolfwood was introduced, I still hadn't understood. He was incredibly likeable and played off with the main cast very well. His backstory was told so beautifully in episode 6. Episode 8 was another highlight for me. We were finally getting a wonderfully flashed out backstory for Vash that made him so much more rounded. It was also greatly expanding on Knives' motives.

But then the episodes after…….I didn't feel it anymore….

I don't even know why.

Maybe I fell into that seasonal anime burnout, maybe I was just down…..depressed, call it what you will….

I didn't like watching Meryl and Roberto.

The dialogues irritated me and I was just frustrated I couldn't enjoy it anymore.

But then….

Then came Vash's dream sequence.

The flower garden lightening up in a beautiful red.

Rem standing at the tree in the middle.

A little Vash running towards her.

Jumping into her arms.

Smiling.

Her arms caressing him, and him feeling the safest, the most loved he has ever been.

…and I…

I felt that too. It was like an epiphany. I finally understood the core. It was like I was blind then began to see.

It was such an overwhelming content feeling.

I saw Rem being painted as mother earth. This story was about our world.

Their world.

About humanities' exploitation of the nature, of each other.

About the human condition as a whole, about hate, if everything could be overcome, but most significantly...

…about love and peace.

In its center was Vash who embodies it all, fights for it, even if he doesn't like it, and carries his message through the world, but at the same time it's about him experiencing the greatest cruelty because of his circumstances.

But holy fuck it didn't even stop there…… The most impressive thing had yet to come. The final episode. It's never been the same for me after that.

All of a sudden this show showed all its christian inspired glory! NOT ONCE I thought about this series as christian inspired… NOT ONCE. UNTIL THEY LITERALLY SHOWED US TWO FALLEN ANGELS FIGHTING OVER THE POWER OF GOD. EVEN THOUGH WOLFWOOD LITERALLY CARRIES A CROSS THE WHOLE SHOW SYMBOLIZING HIS SINS, YEAH I WAS BLIND.

After I saw that, I saw them everywhere! The motives! Every fucking where!!! Especially in Vash.

"Even if they hunt me! I'll just run away! I'll run, run, run, and keep running as far as i have to! And when things calm down, I'll quietly settle by their side again! I'm Vash the Stampede!"

I enjoyed all that symbolism immensely. I wouldn't consider myself the most religious person, but I have been raised in a Christian household and I do want to believe in the lessons of mercy, love and charity, like Vash does. I know, I'm probably oversentimental right now, but ...in the end this franchise made me feel...it wasn't wrong to think that way.

And that's not even all the series has to offer….it's overall a philosophical playground about morality.

So there was no escaping it, I had to know more about this story now.

The next thing I did was binging the 1998 anime by Madhouse. It has a very different approach to things, but it built on the aforementioned themes in a magnificent way. The presentation of the designs and setting were a lot more Western-genre-oriented and now I think, they're even better suited to make the themes shine.

After all Stampede was more leaning into the modern sci-fi elements and mostly focusing on the main brotherly conflict and the lore surrounding it, probably due to time contraints.

This version showed us a little more of the people living on this planet, and their unavoidable struggles. Different stories about people's dependance on others and the little resources they needed to survive.

This Trigun world was more painted as a world, where the crime rate was incredibly high, everyone has to carry a gun and unnecessary duels happen everyday. A cruel place to believe in such a thing as mercy. A place where more villains actively want to break Vash and make him turn on his pacifistic ideals.

Ironically this iteration had a lot of funny moments as well, it was easier to become attached to the characters that way.

It was also a great way of filling me in on a lot of information the reboot left open or still hadn't explored.

Vash was an even more conflicted character here and accompanied with Wolfwood's inner struggles, those two make the perfect antithesis to each other and Knives. Knives in this iteration could hardly be called a character at all. He feels more like a MCGuffin, even if he still gets a minimum share of development.

In the end this anime made me feel a lot of different emotions and with all its great fitting original content managed to tell a beautiful coherent narrative with a beautiful finale that leaves everyone satisfied.

Everyone but me….because I knew there was more :D

Something was still missing here….a lot of the lore regarding the twins and history of this planet that was explained in Stampede wasn't here.

So it was time for me to get to the best part. The finished source material by Yasuhiro Nightow himself.

Trigun and especially the sequel Trigun Maximum.

Imagine it that way.

If you take the best things of both animes and mash them together, this is what you get.

That's one of the reasons those two series complement each other so well.

Oh boy, where do I begin.

This one is daaaark.

If you thought the trauma presentation and villainous encounters in the other two animes were already hard to swallow, this shit's going to destroy you. It did me. I never knew how much underlying sadness a character and I could endure. But also at the same time Vash was the same as his 98 anime counterpart, witty, a jokester, an incredible gunman sure of his capabilities, an incredibly caring hero with ideals worth following, but also a tragic hero.

"What am I supposed to do?

I don't know anymore..."

This iteration shows all of the aspects of his character the other two already had, but also a lot more...

The same with Wolfwood and Knives.

It finally establishes Wolfwood as the second protagonist he has always been, as the 98 anime does introduce him way later in ratio with the lenghth of the manga. We spend more time with him.

Although Knives has a lot more charisma in Stampede, here he has a much more flashed out motive and plan. He seems the most threatening here.

Even his followers all get the time they deserve, Trigun Maximum is where Legato Bluesummers is the craziest he will ever be!

Since this story had enough time to be flashed out, they make the journey longer and harder for all the characters, and the moral dilemmas more complex.

The attention to detail is at the highest it has ever been and the fights and action scenes are a sight to be hold, ….including gore and unsettling imagery throughout.

It works a lot with atmosphere and auras the characters radiate, it doesn't overexplain anything and has some of the best one liners I've ever read, some of them the anime adaptations obviously used as well.

The scale feels enormous by the end, so much so that it overwhelmed me emotionally sometimes…..

If Trigun Stampede really plans to follow this at least a bit, we are in for a visual treat.

But even if they succeed and make it their own, which they, in my opinion already did, the sheer amount of missing content that needed to be adapted to give it the same emotional debth as the manga seems just too great for just another cour… Whatever happens I will be there and support it.

I also have a few things I only briefly want to mention.

Meryl and Milly are awesome. They don't have a big role to play, but it's sufficient. Love them.

The action scenes and visual presentation in all of the iterations, but mostly in the manga, are nuts. The weapons and fighting choreographies are crazy and inventive, thus really enjoyable and infectious.

Legato is the best villain in this story, sorry Knives, of course you're doing well too.

No, I don't ship Vashwood, but I understand why some would.

And lastly, over the studiing of this franchise I grew incredibly attached to Vash. He is probably one of the best protagonists I've ever watched growing.

By now, I have watched Trigun Stampede three times, in sub, german dub and english dub. I have watched Trigun (1998) two times, in sub and in german dub. And last week I have finished reading Trigun Maximum the second time.

In the span of five months.

It never got boring…. And I don't see me letting go of this series anytime soon.

I think taking the relationship between Beetlejuice and Lydia for granted in the new film is too hasty to say.

I know it's hard to tell them not to be hopeful when they've already released this kind of official material. I mean, have you seen this?!

Or the certainty that Lydia accepted without hesitation Beetlejuice's proposal to look for her daughter. (although it is more than obvious why she accepted it) min: 3:57

Or even this video... Are you really saying that a relationship is very difficult when you talk about his "relationship" with Lydia??

And let's also talk about this face... Jesus... It seems that Beetlejuice has found the love of his life when he sees Lydia. (Personally I think in the second GIF Beetlejuice is looking at his wedding cake or something else, because it seems that he is still with his back to her)

But I think there's something they're forgetting.

This has also come out and is behind the scenes.

You can use the ending of the musical (although I doubt it very much, Tim and Michael refuse to see the musical). Here I believe that Beetlejuice will choose Astrid or she herself will offer to marry him to save her mother and so they would kill Beetlejuice, staining her dress with his blood.

I'm not a person who gets excited when I see some romantic approach, I expect it to really happen.

Have they forgotten the unfinished ship ReyLo?? Zutara's discarded idea?? The bland romance between Lucy and Raoul? The main couple of Wish with Asha and Starboy who they discarded because #feminism?

I think this could be the same...

I feel like they're not really going to pair Lydia and Beetlejuice. Because even though their deal is transactional, (he helps her find her daughter and she marries him to bring him back to life and get him away from his ex-wife, Delores).

I feel like all these "shows of affection" are a farce... This comes across as:

-"Like why do you say you can't marry me?" "You say it's because you don't love me and I don't either?" "So here, take (literally) my heart and shut up."

I don't like to be so pessimistic, I really wish they stayed together, because for God's sake, they are an iconic couple in gothic horror and black comedy movies even though they have never really been a couple (plus ALL if not most Tim Burton movies have romance or proof that there was going to be a romance (like an unfinished pairing). As in Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride etc).

If the Beetlebabes is canonized, Tim Burton risks waves and a HUGE amount of hate for "pairing a girl with a disgusting adult" (even though in the movie Lydia is already an adult).

Beetlejuice has a picture of Lydia when she was a teenager, which means that he fell in love with her when she was an underage girl...

Even if he says that Beetlejuice and Lydia were created to be together (as some sort of "soulmates") and that at some point in a sequel they would make that a reality, there will be a lot of people who will be very angry about this.

I really don't think Tim Burton would risk all the criticism and hate...

Unless he makes the decision to defend this Ship openly, he will not do so without at least giving as an example the musical, whose directors ignored that detail (of the "soulmates", Perhaps because of the pressure to be politically correct by Broadway standards) because they did it at his expense and not with his help...

Let's remember that the musical and everything in it, is not from Tim Burton's own mind, but they did do what they wanted with his characters without consulting him first.

But I still thinking that claiming victory so hastily would be very bad for the whole Fandom.

I ask you not to celebrate such an abrupt "triumph"... The film has not yet been released.

I ask you to wait at least until the premiere of the film.

I ask you to wait until it is 100% confirmed.

Finding Jimin's weakest duo is actually really hard because like RM said; Jimin is the king of chemistry and put him in a room with anyone and it will be funny and quality entertainment. But I will try.

This was kinda obvious. Some people would rate this duo lower than Yoonkook but I think that's not fair. If you compare them with an unbiased eye Tkk are stronger than ynkk. First they are closer in age which helps. Meaning they're gonna be closer, too. But put them in a room together and it's not even awkward its nothingness. I'm talking silence. By JK's own admission here it just wasn't working. And we all remember the joint IG live where they ran out of things to talk about and JK would play with Bam instead. Another duo where JK needs a buffer for sure. I mean, sure tkk have been out and about but notice how its always with the Wooga squad? Never just them two?

On the plus side, they look really good. So, I'll give them that. 💚

Minimoni

Again this is so hard because Jimin has very strong duos. But yeah, I will put RM second last because RM as a person (bless him and his dimples) he's not the most entertaining and has to bounce off of someone. Them together, alone won't be boring but I'm not sure it would be that memorable or mind blowing. These are just my personal opinions guys so feel free to disagree or chime in. But yeah. I feel Minimoni is 2nd last for me.

I do find it interesting how comfortable RM is with skinship when it comes to Jimin considering he's not big on that in general (unless its Jin) He's even the one who initiates so he is quite comfortable around Jimin.

Anyway, they're a nice duo with a dynamic that gives you UWUs but they're not the most interesting in my eyes. Sorry Minimonis 🤷🏽‍♀️

Namkook

What's the most recent thing that we know about them? We know they hanged out after JK left Jennie's CK event. And we know before that JK said him and RM hadn't drunk together in years. Years. Not months. Now this dont mean they don't see eo. It just means they don't drink together often. I do find this to be significant however because both men love their liquor. But, they drink with other members just not eo so.... 😬😬 again, not making this up, its as per their own admissions

So Namkook in a room together 🤔 what do we got here guys? Have we ever had this? We had a Namkook live but the only memorable thing for me was them outing the fact that Jikook live together. I am blanking on Namkook which makes me feel confident about the position I've put RM.

I would actually have Jinmin and Jihope as a tie but since I'm choosing I will rate Jinmin lower. But man. These 2 together are the absolute best. They are such a comedic entertaining duo. Them together alone in a room is worth every penny if we were asked to pay for any such footage 😂😂 they are funny and they bounce off of eo so well. Never a dull or awkward moment between Jin and Jimin. Never.

These two are the ones you throw to a team that's drowning. They are the ones u assign to a team for better views. I love them together fr fr. Best duo. Such a good duo. Honestly. Throw JK in there and you are set for life with the best trio ever. Go search for any of their compilations and I dare you to be bored.

And we haven't even began to talk about their visuals

Hopekook in a room together alone, I'd say that's solid entertainment right there. They're good together, they're funny. It's Jhope we're talking about. He rivals Jimin on having chemistry with the members so him and JK alone i think that's a solid video right there. No awkwardness or nothing and Bonus skinship for the Hopekookers. Good times, really.

JK is extremely comfortable with Jhope so yeah... they're a good duo. No one is getting bored.

Yoonmin

Okay y'all. We know most Yoonmin supporters are rubbish vermin but don't let that make you forget that Yoonmin are extremely entertaining together. Put these 2 in a room alone together and come on... GOLD!! The Yoonmin Suchwita episode is hands down the funniest for me. I laughed from beginning to the end. Swear to God ✋🏽 that episode and the one with the drunk TXT members are great rewatches for me ngl. Also Jimin is Suga's favourite member so Suga is super comfortable with Jimin in everything. But my favorite part of them is the bickering of course.

They can't ever seem to stop fighting which is just so freaking entertaining. Remember ITS 1 when Jhope told Jimin he was being cocky so Jimin said he was going to look for Suga so that the guy could kill his cockiness? He said going to Suga would bring him back down to earth 😂🤣 Because this is who they are, its what they do. They insult eo and call eo out. So people who get mad at Suga need to watch a good old Yoonmin bickering compilation. They've called each other ugly, fat, stupid, skinny, and a bunch of other stuff some people seem to have forgotten.

Anywaaaaaay. Yoonmin alone together is quality content and that's why Suga is high on this list.

Surely I don't need to explain why this duo is number 2 in terms of JK's most entertaining duos. Right? Like its self explanatory? I've stated many times; imo Jin is JK's favourite/closest after Jimin. Some of u disagree and say Jhope nah, its Jin. Imho.

Tom and Jerry, perfect title for them 2. Love it. Put them in a room together and you're set.

We don't need to imagine. This duo have been alone together or engaged just them enough to know they are entertaining as shit. Its usually mostly Jhope laughing at Jimin's antics but this usually prompts Jimin into getting funnier with every laugh he gets from Jhope.

Much like Jinmin they are the duo you shove into a dying group to give it spice. They are absolutely epic and I feel confident putting Hobi on the number 2 spot of Jimin's most entertaining duos.

They do have awkward moments when they're checking eo out to try and out compliment eo but that's just entertaining as well 😂😂

Last but not least Jikook/Kookmin/Minkook/Mingukk

Now hear me out. This isn't just my bias that made me put this duo at the top. Alright? There is this ongoing unfairness taking place in the fandom where people undermine Jimin and JK's funny n chaotic sides.

Together they are hilarious and entertaining and this duo doesn't get enough credit for being as funny as they are.

The reason they are number one is because Jikook alone together is a complete programme. Humor, Check. Chaos, Check. Romance, Check. Sexual tension, Check.

☣ Now before I say anything "why are all the boys with each other" uhm cause I was indecisive on if I liked starrypoet, spacerap, or nischa better, I still ship mischalia honestly sometimes even more. So I just threw the rest of them into the polycule regardless

☣ He is a short king, short Mischa truthers rise he is literally only an inch taller than Ocean, she probably intimidates him more than the other way away around (Need more absolutely unhinged Ocean's who are one point away from screaming at someone, Trinity theater Ocean changed my life/j)

☣ He's practically Ezra's adoptive older brother at this point, bond over the Saw franchise and ICP. He's surprisingly good with kids, like he's a good guy he just looks intimidating and crusty, which I did on purpose. But he is literally the sweetest one in the choir, super physically affectionate, gives good hugs.

☣ Along with Penny he also constantly looks like he's been shoved down a flight of stairs, which he claims is because he's gotten into fights. It's not, he just fell down the stairs like her. He wants to think he's all tough and everything but it's like the complete opposite, he's a dork.

Ricky

☄ They are best friends with pretty much everyone except Ocean for obvious reasons. Constance and them make Kandi together. He's wearing two Kandi necklaces on his uniform, both of them loosely based on the Kandi singlets I made for the choir members. (which of course you have no context to unless you're the like 5 people I've shown them to.)

☄ They're breaking so many dress code rules and the school is just too tired to care. Dyes his hair regularly with Constance, also I know lots of people love the Savannah Potts hc, it's cute!! But I physically cannot draw masc presenting people without shitty facial hair. It's an addiction. I'm so sorry.

☄ Their art style definitely is similar to the late 2000s anime style every shitty windows movie maker slideshow presentation had. with a mix of warrior cats and sparkle dogs. I couldn't really present that in the like 4 inch amount of space I gave myself.

☄ Him and Constance have matching tamagotchis, Noel also used to have one but it died and he sobbed for hours and never wanted to touch it again out of sheer guilt of killing a virtual pet.

Constance

♡ I'm ngl I like pretty much every Constance ship except for blackrose and kept seeing sugarspace art and thought it was cute. So there you go sugarspace crumbs, I'll draw them probably at one point.

♡ She is literally the reason why the choir is like mentally and physically stable. Course that's very mentally draining and never said it's a good thing!! She's probably pushed into the group therapist role at points, I hate the "mom friend" headcanon at points, it's accurate, but at points it can be really toxic, coming from personal experiences.

♡ She definitely shops at hot topic with Ricky and collects a bunch of really cheap fandom merch. Usually bracelets and necklaces, also really into styling hair. She braids Penny and Ocean's hair sometimes, and as mentioned before dyes her hair with Ricky.

♡ I don't like blackrose at all but they've dated for like… a day. It was not a great time. (Literally just one of those absolutely pointless middle school relationships that you forget about like immediately after a breakup)

Same eruri anon. I think it's wild and utterly bonkers that some eruris called you homophobic and harassed you because you stated that eruri isn't canon, which in text it literally isn't. I could argue Erwin loved Levi romantically or Levi loved Erwin romantically but they never acted on it because they're soldiers with their care and duties being above any romantic relationship but that's just MY interpretation and I know that, but claiming it as canon when it was never shown to be the actual case in the manga would be kinda extra of me lol. You were only stating actual canon fact so I don't know why that would make anyone mad unless they think it taints their interpretation lol. Really sorry about that.

Also, your point about talking more about Erwin and Levi's relationship because of its complexity was very interesting. To play the devil's advocate for my fellow eruris but not to excuse those who harassed you for your takes. I think why most eruris immediately call people homophobes for any thing they think is hate is because they do face a lot of homophobia for even merely having the audacity to ship Levi with Erwin. Like people saying Levi would be disgusted by the thought of being shipped with a man or even kick the shippers in the teeth and crack their skulls in for shipping the two plus saying other vile things make the shippers jump to conclusions. I also think they call people homophobes because they feel only Levi and Erwin's relationship gets heavily criticized and not his other straight ships. I think a lot of them aren't aware that people like you who analyze Erwin and Levi's relationship is because of the complexities of it and they mistake it as it just being another person trying to rain on their parade while ignoring other things said about Levi. Like on TikTok it's very famous for people to believe Levi was going to marry Petra and a lot of people actually believe that and claim it as canon. So I think eruris shout homophobia because they don't understand how no one tries to debunk Levihan or rivetra but only seem to come for them and their ship(not saying that's what you're doing) But they feel like if people really care about setting the facts about Levi straight then why do some ignore other big misconception about him and only try to correct the thought of people saying he was in love with a man.

Also, I agree with everything you said about Erwin and Zeke and why Levi perceive them differently, and I agree that serious conversations has no place in shipping 100% or trying to bring ships into serious discussion.

And trolling can be harmful, I agree but sometimes people just get frustrated and they can't help it when they feel like they're constantly getting attacked, misconstrued, lumped in with others and belittled.

I understand the desire to troll people when they're being blatantly disrespectful or intentionally confrontational. I think, though, if one is going to troll, then they should make it obvious that that's what they're doing. Tone isn't discernible on the internet, so how is one meant to parse out serious statements from statements made sarcastically if that isn't made clear? Then it just has the effect of making an entire shipping community look off their rockers.

Anyway, the reason, again, why I think you don't see as much push-back on ships like Rivetra or Levihan is, again, because Levi's relationships with Petra and Hange are much less complicated and nuanced than his relationship with Erwin. There's a reason I write mostly about Levi's relationship with Erwin. It's not because I think he cared more about Erwin than Hange or Petra, it's because there's simply more to talk about, more to unpack, more to examine. I actually think it reduces Levi's relationship with Erwin to something frivolous and boring when one claims it was "love". It was a lot more than that. Erwin had a profound impact on the way Levi chose to approach one of the aspects of life he found least able to reconcile with himself. That is, how he could be surrounded by meaningless death while feeling life was invaluable. Erwin made Levi believe he could change that by fighting to make the dreams of his fallen comrades come true. That he could imbue their deaths with meaning by fighting on in the name of their dream, or by accomplishing whatever task they died for, thereby undoing the injustice of their lives being tossed aside as if cheap. By comparison, he barely interacts with Petra before she dies, and Hange and Levi, like I said, have a very straightforward friendship, acting more as buddies and partners, doing things together, running missions together, etc, etc... I think Levi was probably personally closer to Hange, as a friend, than he ever was to Erwin. Erwin remained unknowable and at a distance from everyone until nearly the end, when he at last confided in Levi. But for Erwin, Levi held an immense admiration and respect because he saw him as a great visionary and leader, and an altruistic man.

People saying Levi wanted to "marry Petra" doesn't have the potential to lead to Levi's actions and motivations throughout the story being wildly misinterpreted the way saying Levi "sacrificed humanity" for Erwin does, for example. People choosing to see Levi as having romantic feelings for Petra or Hange, despite there being zero evidence for either, doesn't in any, fundamental way affect the way people see Levi's character or what drove him in his actions. It's just a cute ship that doesn't have the potential to cast Levi's character in a negative light. But people choosing to see Levi as having romantic feelings for Erwin very much can and does affect the way people see his character and what drove him in his actions. Levi makes no pivotal choice in relation to Petra's or Hange's fate, for example, the way he has to with Erwin, so you don't get absurd discussions surrounding the nature of his relationship with them, or the nature of his choice, the way you do his relationship with Erwin, with people claiming he would and did "sacrifice humanity" for them because he just cared about them so much more than anyone or anything else. It's got nothing to do with not wanting to see Levi romantically linked with a man (at least not with me. I've said it multiple times at this point, but I both read and write eruri fanfic. There are, of course, actual homophobic anti-shippers out there). It's got to do with casting Levi in a light that completely butchers his character, all to push the idea that he loved Erwin so much, that even humanity didn't matter to him by comparison. It all plays into that idea that Levi would compromise his morals for Erwin, would blindly follow Erwin no matter what, etc, etc... It's designed to make Levi look like a selfish prick, when he's literally the exact opposite. He's the most selfless character in the story.

Being on Coruscant was a dream posting for some clones, if you asked around. Being around so many different natborns was an exciting concept, as most hardly interacted with anyone that wasn't a fellow clone, so the city planet seemed like a dream.

The dream dies down awfully quickly when you're subjected to more paperwork than you've ever seen in your entire life daily. Those exotic bodies with their differing hair color, eyes, and body shapes, all lose their luster when clones are either ignored or treated like the lowest droid malfunctioning in an alleyway, or worse.

The Guard was one of the most restricted groups, Fox is coming to realize, making his way around The Negotiator. Everyone here seemed freer, helmets hanging from their belts unless needed for their task, joking and laughing as they work. Most of them don't register the commander, and those who do greet him warmly, albeit nervous to have someone of such high rank on the ship. On Coruscant, Fox and his men were only allowed to interact in their shared barracks, and they hardly did, knowing they were closely monitored by everyone and everything. It was so isolating, and a lot of the time they all wished they could be fighting with a Jedi, instead of drowning in paperwork and dealing with people who viewed them as objects or worse.

The man eventually wanders onto the bridge, and watches as Cody and Obi-Wan crowd around the large pedestal by the door, quietly talking about something.

He knows what they're talking about, and eventually, Cody feels his eyes on him.

"Sleep well?" Fox just joins the two, and the Jedi gives a soft smile.

"We've been speaking with some of your men, and we were going to fetch you actually." The commander shoots a confused look at Cody, but straightens with his arms going behind his back.

"What do you need sir?" Kenobi eyes the stance with a slight frown, but says nothing.

"Oh, I don't need much, just your help in doing something that is most likely treason."

Come again?

"Sir?" Fox blinked, wondering if he had misheard. "Treason?"

"Yes, you heard me." Kenobi gives him a warm smile, which is absurd from the news he just dropped on the Guard leader. "I've been going through some reports and, quite frankly, I apologize."

"To who?" Fox blinked and watched as the Jedi gestures vaguely around the ship.

"To all of you? To everyone? To be honest I'm not sure." Fox does not miss the hand Cody pus on the general's shoulder. "Now that I have the information in front of me, it's obvious who Chanc-Palpatine really is."

"A Sith."

Every clone was taught the basic differences between a Sith and a Jetti, and with Ventress and Dooku, it wasn't hard to get the knowledge as a cruel reminder. How many have fallen to their blades is unknown, but to realize the one Sith no one has seen is just...running the Senate? Pulling a friendly mask over the darkness he oozes? The darkness that has been used against Fox, scarring his mind in a way he was unaware?

"What do you need from me?" Fox straightened, clasping his arms behind his back to hide the fact he was slightly trembling.

"You are the only one who has the best access to Him. I cannot ask you to do anything you're not comfortable with, but we cannot allow him to remain in power." Kenobi frowned, weighing his options. "If you can get us the code to his private chambers, it might be the best way to get to him."

"I can do that." Fox should feel like he should protest, that he's going against the Republic...but he doesn't. Taking a long and slow breath, the trembling seems to stop as he looks out the main window at Courscant stationed to the right of the ship.

It seemed so small from up here.

"I need to go before he starts looking for me." Fox sighed after staring without a word for a few minutes, and the others nod. "I will contact you when I can."

"Any time, day or night, I will answer." Obi-Wan crossed around the table to stand beside the trooper. "I have also placed a small mental sort of shield so that if...there is an incident, he will not find what we have discussed today."

"...thank you, sir."

The shuttle that's offered to Fox gets him back to the planet quick enough, but he pauses after exiting onto the landing platform. He's not landed back near the Senate building, instead having gone down several levels into the planet, where he knows the Senator does not observe. It's weird temporarily shedding his armor, but the civilian clothes that each shuttle has in case clones need to hide in the populace make him feel a little bit more protected, and he's soon lost in the crowd. Fox knows exactly where to go, and knows exactly what to purchase before he returns to his shuttle, and back to the building he now felt nothing but dread at the sight of.

Kenobi isn't going to need his call.

So some of my friends have never seen Buffy and we're watching through it. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, so there's a lot I don't remember.

We're on season 6 right now and I'm just-- what the fuck yo???

I know the show was technically supposed to end after season 5, but still, holy hell season 6 is a nightmare. I'm mad about everything honestly but I specifically wanna call out how Spike gets treated???

Cause like. What. The. Fuck???

They call this dude for everything. Like the moment something goes down they call him to help and he comes running every time. Makes sure Dawn is safe, takes care of anyone injured and makes sure they get to safety, is the other strongest fighter, knows a shitload about the supernatural world and if not where to find it. He's generally super fucking useful, and he's usually pretty damn cool and friendly with them unless someone's a dick first.

So WHY do most of the characters treat him like hes still horrible?? He literally spent the entire last season helping them. He took a freakin torture session from a GOD and nearly got dusted to keep Dawn safe. He also helped take care of Dawn after Buffy died.

Yet most of the group act like he's only out for himself and like he's just fucking evil all the time!

I remember being pissed when he got frozen out of Joyce's funeral too. They clearly had a friendly relationship, they watched soap operas together ffs. Spike routinely got called in to protect her and Dawn and did so without hesitation. There were plenty of times he and Joyce just shot the shit because he actually genuinely liked her. And yet he's not allowed to mourn her???

I don't get how you can depend on someone so obviously but then act like they're not part of the group??

Especially since its pretty fuckin obvious when they hurt his feelings. Its not like he tries to come off as cool and unaffected, he wears his heart on his sleeve. He's actually probably one of the only characters to routinely demonstrate actual emotional intelligence and empathy.

It just... irks me to see him get treated like dirt routinely when he's been doing his best to show them he's friendly for years now.

And like "he tried to kill them" isn't really a good enough reason in this story?? Anya tried to kill them, and is an ex-demon. She's still welcomed into the group. Angel too, tbh and he did FAR more emotional damage. But like even though he's not around for long after, they still talk about him fondly and Buffy keeps in contact with him over the years. Amy tried to kill them too and she got brought back with all the over looked just fine too.

It just feels massively unfair and it pisses me off because there's not a good basis for it based on how his character changed. Even Spuffy, as much as I adore the ship, went all kinds of sideways largely due to Buffy being deadset on the idea that Spike could only be bad for her and treating him like it.

Yes, he rose to the bait and he shouldn’t have. But like. Imagine how painful its gotta be to have someone you love telling you how awful you are and how they could never truly love you because you're wrong somewhere deep in your core, and then sleeping with you anyway because you're hot therefore good enough to fuck, just not to love. That's FUCKED my dude.

THE ISLE OF SHARDS, CRYON. also known as owen's info-dumping/world building post.

This isn't even one of those 'if you've been around the blog for a while, you have seen me mention xyz.' posts, because I talk about Noah's 'home' planet quite frequently, or rather, you've seen me talk about how cold it is and how dangerous it was for lil weak humans to grow up. But I don't think I've gone in depth on it before so here we are, lads.

The little island where Noah and his brothers were raised is called the Isle of Shards for very obvious reasons. It's one of the few places left on the planet that has any evidence of the old plant life that used to live and grow there before the place got thwacked further away from it's sun and became the frozen wasteland it's known as today. The trees there used to be massive (think like the big redwood forrest that's.. somewhere in America, ngl I have no idea. Colorado?). They were strong, dense and would bloom in vibrant, bright colourful leaves and flowers when the seasons were right, and surprisingly they grew quite quickly and used to be a good source of, y'know, wood. Almost every structure was built from these trees because of how quick and easy it was for them to be grown and with how strong they are.

But then everything went cold, the trees couldn't grow anymore and people started dying off and thus couldn't care for the remaining ones and now the whole planet is buried underneath ice and snow.

But the Isle of Shards? One of the very places that still has these trees. They're completely coated in ice and snow, frozen in time and barely looking anything like a tree unless you're able and patient enough to hack away at the elements covering them up. They just look like really, really big shards of ice poking out of the ground.

The Isle is small, I'd say around the size of Ireland is a good comparison (sorry Ireland?) and about 60% of it is covered in these huge ice shards. It's both a good thing and a bad thing, because they provide adequate cover from the weather and the storm, but would you want to live underneath an icicle that may or may not break apart and destroy your house? It happens a lot. Noah's family lost their home once due to falling frozen branches, though nobody was home at the time so it's okay. The other problem the Shards bring is that due to the fact that the sky is almost never clear, and these trees are so tall, flying a spaceship nearby is really just taking your life into your own hands and hoping the gods are on your side that day. Shi'p has almost had a few close calls herself. It's dangerous to navigate through and around them, even moreso when the storm is nearby because that puts the risk of falling debris up higher, plus the winds might just blow your ship into the icicles anyways.

It is very pretty to look at though, it would definitely be a good tourist spot if anyone wanted to risk visiting them. Noah would suggest going to see them at night when the twin moons are full and it's clear, it gives the place an almost ethereal glow. And because there's been thousands of years of just.. those big ice sticks, the locals have created lore and stories around them, little stories to tell the kids before bed, cautionary tales, myths that the old gods lurk within and sometimes they call out to their people, but you aren't to listen to them should you hear their whispers, you should run. It's a.. magical place, honestly. I'd visit if it wasn't cold and entirely make believe from my own head, y'know?

But yeah, I can't think of anything else to add that won't have me here for hours and make this post obnoxiously long. So here's your lil description of the place where Noah grew up.

Aha! It's the 3rd chapter of the fic A Trail Of Crumbs whose concept I adore but fell out of love with when I stumbled out of the Avatar fandom.

It follows Recom Miles Quaritch after the events of the film, lone survivor back on base and wrestling with the increasing dread brought about by a series of 'crumbs' he picks up on over time. RDA staff say and do weird things. The way he's treated seems odd. Ah, and his fucking custom watch. The tattoos they all have... Stuff doesn't really add up.

The goal of the fic was to explore the nature of the 'soul drives', how edited recom memories are, and the growing realisation that Miles isn't anywhere near his old human self, not any more than any other Marine with a similar background.

It was pure vibes of Blade Runner, artificial memories, created as a sentient tool unaware of their own artificiality beyond the obvious, etc.

In the end, I think I explored the concept better in this short comic in Mansk POV.

Chapter 3 crumbs is the incomplete conversation between Aslan and Miles, hinting at past Miles/Parker Selfridge. I stuck to dialogue only towards the end so it grows barebones, but I'll put what I have under the cut for the curious because I honestly don't think I'll finish this unless Avatar 3 makes me its bitch again.

'Why did you come back to Pandora?'

'Well, we landed in fanfare, as you can imagine.'

Yes, Miles can well imagine the media shit-storm so politely labelled fanfare. There's a part of him he's not particularly proud of that is glad his own death allowed him to skip this particular shitshow. He'd been, after all, the man in charge of operations at the time. Had pulled rank and everything. The media would have vivisected his career, his entire being. It's unlikely to have been much kinder to other RDA personal, returning with their tails between their legs.

'And in the middle of all this, my family...' Aslan gnaws on their lip, their faraway look snapping back to Miles with sudden intensity. 'We weren't really friends, you and I. You weren't one to hang out with the "science pukes", right? You'd know about my family if you had. I used to complain quite vocally whenever I got a comm from them. The old vent, you know. Anyway, let's say they were there, at the landing pad, waiting for me. In the middle of all that... fanfare.'

They look through the blinds, over the blighted landscape of concrete and metal, crawling with bots and shivering with heat and ship exhaust fumes.

'I signed up for the next mission over.'

Miles nods politely. He knows the type of family they're alluding to. He's met people who worked on the Mars terraforming program off world, because restoring Uganda's water table wasn't far enough of a getaway. Pandora's one of the furthest frontiers known to mankind. Different appeal to the science pukes, who generally arrive thrilled to go pull up grass, but dysfunctional families are universal, and to many RDA workers, the distance is a bonus.

He goes to say some platitude, that he understands, because really, he does. But Aslan cuts him off with a sharp hand gesture.

'Can we cut the crap, General? I mean Miles. You're not interested in my family, and you're keeping me away from the deeply fascinating samples I've come all the way here to put under a microscope, so let's just talk.'

Miles is struck by the sudden realisation that he's got no easy segway ready to start on the whole RDA conspiracy thing. He turns a few sentences over in his mind, growing discomfort flattening his ears to his skull. Should he threaten Aslan? Ask plainly? He's burning to cut the crap, as asked. But Aslan is also the one who'd gone to great pains to arrange a believable meeting between them, who'd seeded fear into his mind.

The manual had held no hint when he consulted it. The term soul drive had an asterix to an appendix that wasn't in the book.

'Something bothering you?'

Miles smiles tightly. 'You can tell?'

'You have a long way to go before you obtain a Na'vi poker face. I suggest you stay away from the Thursday games.'

To hell with it. It's not like he expects he'll make it past the court martial, the way things are going.

'Why do your people tattoo us?'

'You flatter me if you think me this involved, but that happens on the ship over, with a crew well out of my jurisdiction.'

A deflection. He'll be damned. 'I'd appreciate an answer,' he says, putting steel into his voice. 'Of the straight kind, too, if you can manage those.'

'A jab at my sexuality? Too easy. Is the tattooing what's bothering you? Really?' Aslan's smile is knowing, the light in their eyes dances with unwholesome mischief.

'Let's say that I've tried and failed to find a better starting point.'

'All right then. Let's do a short test. Answer my questions fast and truthfully.'

Miles relaxes. 'Sure.'

'Year of birth?'

'2104.'

'Do you have a son?'

'...Yes.'

'What was his mother's name?'

'Paz Socorro.'

'What year was she born?'

'I...'

'Am not sure?'

'I don't think we discussed it, but—'

'You had her file. She was one of yours, wasn't she? Surely you remember how old she was?'

'I think—'

But Aslan doesn't let him catch his breath. 'Who was Parker Selfridge to you?'

Miles sits straight, ears point to attention now. Will Aslan also reek of fear if he answers 'friend', no matter how much of an overstatement the word might feel? Heck, they asked for fast answers, so he says, 'He wasn't exactly my boss, but he was the Head suit in charge.'

'I need an honest answer,' they say, rasping a knuckle on the table.

Miles has his jaw hanging. What do they want from him?

'Do you recall leaning in his doorway?' Aslan continues, hardly slowing down. 'Poring over maps together?'

'Well, we...'

'Do you remember the way he laughed at your jokes? You leaned into the corny dad humour and he loved it. Do you remember your mug?'

'Yes.'

'Do you remember how you got it?'

'...Selfridge? Wasn't it Paz?'

'That's a question, so I'll take it as a no. Moving on to—'

'All right, all right. You've made your point.'

'What point do you think this is?'

'My memories are incomplete.'

'No, Miles.' Aslan sighs and sinks into their chair. 'Your memories are edited.'

It's somewhat depressing that of all the emotions he feels in that moment, surprise is not one of them

'Look at it this way. The machine scours your neural pathworks, and bounces memories. But it can't recreate the events that got you there, and it can't recreate what you blocked even from your own wakeful memory. Things you've forgotten, things you've hidden under too many layers, things you've trained to look away from.'

'So we're missing chunks?'

'Yes, all soul drives are inherently incomplete. That's why the technology isn't widespread. But that's not it. When you're in the machine, they can trigger memory chains. It helps map out... Look, it's hard to simplify, especially since it's not my specialty either, but they can snip out entire sections, like cauterizing a thought beyond surface level, or blot out all emotional reactions to a concept.'

'Are you saying... Do you actually mean the RDA edited the story of my life like a fucking home movie?'

They shrug. 'Yeah. That's the gist of it.'

'That in the contract I signed?'

'Of course not. Come on, colonel, you worked private long enough to have seen this coming. What? Do you think they'd give a fuck if you had issues with your situation?'

Miles rubs a shaky hand over his eyes, trying his best to remember the sound of Parker's laugh. 'Are you— Are you saying Selfridge and I were close—'

'Close is a good euphemism.'

Aslan tuts. 'Bad move.'

Five Things You Never Get Tired of Writing

Thanks for tagging me @fridayincarnate ^^ I'm barely active here, so it's very nice you remembered of my meager existence XD

Rules: list 5 things you never get tired of writing. It can be tropes, themes, characters, phrases, whatever brings you joy, then tag 5 people!

Absurd crack. Okay, all crack is absurd by the name of it, but the more nonsense, the better ofc X)) I especially enjoy crack treated seriously--that's just a safe way to write what I want, and to let people know what they're getting into by deciding to read it XD

Emotionally fragile/vulnerable character. I simply adore getting into the POV of the person who cares and cherishes a person who's been hurt before, has trust issues and such, regardless of that my writing is probably unreliable in the matter--but, as a matter of course, I kriff it

Gay ships. Kinda obvious, but elementary nonetheless. Currently, I plead guilty to not being able to write anything that doesn't have a large percentage of gayness within its contents. I thought that I could write only weird variations of Kylux nowadays, but *surprise, surprise* other gayness is also gladly produced in my brains.

Trying to make everything dark and serious and oh so very dramatic. Truth be told, it's cheating bcs I do get tired of this, and quite often, but I persevere, so I hope it counts. One day, I would love to write a COMPLETE story that is solemn and serious, heart-wrenching and forcing people to feel deeply, and don't feel the overwhelming cringe every time I look back at it myself :'))

Uncalled metaphors. Sometimes my moody brain doesn't lemme sleep, blurting out the weirdest Bantha shit you can imagine. I firmly believe readers don't enjoy these unnecessary paragraphs worth of pseudo-poetic psychoanalysis, but what a man can do?

Your Blackbolt stories are so good! (as is everything you write). I notice as time has gone on, you seem to like and be much more invested in Sirius as a character than you were at one point. I gained a much greater appreciation for the character myself after I stopped letting certain shippers and spaces bother me.

Wow, thank you so much anon! I've got so much to say about this, so forgive the long post:

I am definitely more interested in Sirius as a character than I ever have been. Two big reasons for that: A) I've gotten to know the lovely @artemisia-black. Her metas about Sirius have really helped me understand him as a character and appreciate him. B) I too have given myself some distance from certain ships and spaces that once put a bad taste in my mouth for Sirius Black.

As for Blackbolt, one of the reasons I got into the ship (and thus got more invested in Sirius) was by sheer dumb luck. Awhile ago, I wrote a crack fic, Always Knock, and I wanted to make these wild ships happen, and for what I think are obvious reasons, I didn't include certain popular ships. Instead I put Sirius x Kingsley together and thought wait just a hot minute, there's something to this.

Then, for A Changing Pack, which features Sirius more heavily, I wanted to write a ship for him (and it's not in the fic yet, so sneak preview, I guess?). I don't like making OCs unless I have to, because they're so much work, so I looked back at canon characters, looking for a good 'fit.' I remembered Kingsley, and found a way to get that relationship going in the fic (though we're not there yet!).

When @harrypocter did its winter sun fest, starting with Kingsley, I already had stories to write based on reflection of Sirius's character and the role I wanted him to play in A Changing Pack, but I had to think deeper to look at Sirius from a canon perspective, to see how this would work with his 'baseline' personality.

Now I've got this good idea in my head of how they'd be in canon, but how they'd be in a different story too. I'm super excited to introduce Blackbolt into my Remus raises Harry AU, but I'm also excited to show off this new ship (as of today it still doesn't even have 50 fics on ao3, how crazy is that?) and see how Sirius's personality can be brought out in a new dimension when he's got someone else taking up some of his time and affection.

Anyway, all that's to say thank you and to reflect on my own journey with Sirius and Blackbolt.

UNIVERSES now... now... i'm a marvel girlie and there's a lot going on in the dc universe... i know a little about a lot!! but, primarily my expertise ( a generous description ) lies in the heart of gotham. and even that, i am liable to get wrong from time to time. for characters i'm not super familiar with, i'm always happy to google my heart out and i love to get comic recs, so if there are particular issues that are super important to your character, please don't hesitate to send them my way!!

FORMATTING i can't lie ... this shit is all over the place ... i tend to match whatever my partner is doing! i do small text by default, but i'll switch it up to regular sized text if you ask / if i remember seeing something about it in your rules!! also, for icon things!! i just started making templates for icons for the first time in one million years, so i'm trying to use them!! but if i'm zoomin' and wanna get my reply out, i might forgo an icon!!

SHIPPING i do ship damian and nika! i think they're cute and fun! you, of course, don't have to ship them!! i won't be assuming any type of romantic relationship between my nika and any damian rpers!!

TRIGGERS / SENSITIVE SUBJECTS as a general rule, i will always be trying to tag or avoid common triggers! my formats for tagging are ‘trigger cw //’ and ‘trigger tw //’. i will always try to do both and i always look for people’s triggers in their rules, but please don’t hesitate to let me know if i’ve forgotten a tag. as for myself, i have a weird teeth related trigger! it doesn’t need to be tagged, but if you could avoid talking to me directly about dental things it would be greatly appreciated! also, as a rule i don’t do smut! It’s just not my thing!

VERY IMPORTANT!! there are few things that i vibe with less than i vibe with people being mean. on a small scale, i don’t post hate, i don’t send hate, and i don’t like to see hate. on a larger scale, i don’t tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, or anti semitism. if i see people posting things with an obvious malicious intent, i steer clear, unfollow, or block.

uhh. okay. uh. i'm trying to like. come up w/ words but it's hard bc. autism. but uh. basically as long as you're not hurting people irl & everything's tagged whenever necessary, i genuinely dont care at all what you ship or not as long as nobody irl get hurt. i. don't care what dark topics you write about (or don't! not everything has to be doom & gloom) either. i write about a Lot of dark topics, especially to cope with trauma. nobody has the right to take that from me. a lot of my characters (& the i.ntrojects they are based on because remember they are muses but they're Also i.ntrojects, these are actual members of our s.ystem with feelings of their own) are flawed & traumatized. especially as a survivor of a lot of these said taboo things that most people in general dont like to talk about because they think it's a "dirty" subject myself as an actual survivor w/ did, i've said this before many times on this blog, i'm a c.sa survivor, i'm a c.ult survivor, i'm an i.ncest survivor & i'm no longer afraid to talk about it bc i'm with friends (i hope). it's vital. it's healing. it's important that it's talked about so people who've experienced these things don't feel alone. i can open up about it here. there's some stuff i'm uncomfortable with & i won't write, sure, there's some things i choose not to write that other moots of mine will & i'm not going to be holding that against them for writing about a topic or not (unless if like idk a portrayal of a character is racist or ableist, you get the point, hopefully) & just because I Don't Write Something Does Not Mean I'm Telling You Not To. that's silly imo.

that has Nothing to do with me or my trauma because a) i can differentiate between fiction & reality & b) it's. really weird. in the year 2024 that people will straight up automatically assume just because you write about a topic that somehow automatically means you support something irl when you. Don't Know That, You Do Not Know The Person & c) It's Not About Me & That's Okay & d) people shouldn't go around telling people what they should or shouldn't write as a general rule, we're all grown adults here, that's rude, unless, again, you're politely telling someone that something's off like idk someone writing ableist or racist about a character, don't just go guns blasting ESPECIALLY when you Already Know That Someone Writes About Dark Topics & You Continue Looking At It Anyway ie someone writes a muse that's a serial murderer & you don't like gore & you continue to follow that blog anyway. thats on You. that is Your responsibility. tags exist for a reason. as long as everything's tagged it should be fine) about a specific topic, that wouldn't Change anything. said topics would still exist even if every single person stopped writing about a topic. cults would still exist even if everyone were to stop writing about it. my trauma would still exist even if everyone were to stop writing about the specific things i went through. if i don't like something, all i gotta do is just keep scrolling or if necessary block a tag. (not a whole lot triggers me, there's a difference between squicks & triggers & i'm. tired of people conflating the two when they're entirely different things). i hate to say it because it should be obvious but people don't magically wake up one day & decide to do weird shit for the shits & giggles. there's this weird increasing trend to obsessively search for "problematic" media or "problematic" characters in media to justify demonizing or cancelling it (i'm not talking about like i.e t.wilight where it has actual harmful consequences for n.ative people, i'm talking about people Looking for shit to get mad at & then get shocked that people are like "?") & i'm gonna be honest, a Lot of this is starting to sound like conservative bookburning & a lot of this sounds like the shit my old c.ult leaders used to tell me. it's really that simple. what matters most of all is education about said topics that tbh i find sorely lacking. let's educate people first on what something actually is (for instance, an actual cult & signs) & then people will decide what to do about it & how they portray something. because regardless of what someone else does (& this was something i've had to accept over the years), Not Everything Is Made For Me & That's Okay, I Am Safe Now.

idk i just find that people (in general, i promise it's not at anyone in particular, it's just something i've been meaning to talk about for a long while after seeing some stuff on my dash both on my personal blog & on seeing some stuff in the asoiaf fandom & ngl a bunch of other fandoms too from like years ago so like please don't take this personally /srs) are like way too eager to jump to conclusions about people about all this different stuff when you literally don't know them, that's another person sitting on the other side of that screen that has feelings & sentiments the same way you do. i'm 24. i'm grown (& still growing!). if i've somehow caused offense by not making myself clear enough i'm sorry. that's an autism thing. can we stop acting like this. pls. i'm a grown ass adult & what do i do when i see smth i find wonky or squicky? (& even then sometimes something can fluid)? i look at it rq then i go "oh. thats wonky, oh well thats none of my business!!", i then mind my own business then i keep scrolling. not everyone's writing journey is gonna be the exact same way & that's OKAY. don't hold other people back just because it's not the way YOU write things. you're not better than anyone else. like i've straight up heard of people in a fandom saying "oh you like [x] because [y] portrays [x]" when that person is literally a survivor of that trauma. please. people. stop this shit. quit acting like you give a shit about trauma survivors when you only think there's one way of being a trauma survivor, the "perfect" survivor. learn media literacy. stop clutching pearls. people can skip certain scenes. i think people forget that some media are Meant to be uncomfortable. it's Meant to unsettle you. sometimes things are written as a warning. see: midsommar, a LOT of other horror media, a fuckton of gothic fiction, all of that shit. if you genuinely can't handle a theme, you're under no obligation to consume it but acting as if they have no purpose or as if people, ESPECIALLY survivors, don't have a right to tell these stories, stories that often relate to the darkest most disturbing parts of their life, do some introspection. ask yourself Why you think that. nothing wrong with self reflection. obviously, that's not to say there's no room for critique or concern but u get what i'm saying i hope. you can like something or even a character without endorsing the topics involved therein or the character(s) in question. sometimes things that are dark & disturbing can be cathartic for people who've been through absolute hell but i'm Also not going to be judging people for being like "okie dokie this isn't for me!!", that's okay, people don't have to consume anything they genuinely can't handle, that's why communication is literally SO important in all kinds of things but like don't force other people in your bubble when they wanna be in their own bubble ykwim. we're all different. do what makes You happiest.

it isn't that big of a deal irl (unless if we're talking about the obvious like racism, homophobia, transphobia, queerphobia, etc). basically what i'm trying to say is like. there's honestly way more shit to be worried about than what someone writes or rps. don't be the type of person to be morally outraged at what other grownass consenting adults are doing because there's gonna be shit that dont make sense to ya. Try to be compassionate towards other people. give other people a chance to talk if you're able to. even if you don't always agree with what they're saying. if you need to, do what needs to be done. every single person deserves respect & what we're Not going to do in the year 2024 is act shitty towards each other just because we don't agree on smth. what we're Not going to do is use people's real traumas for discourse points no matter which "side" (i guess) you fall onto. more than anything, i (& we) believe in nuance, kindness, compassion & respect for each other. we're s.hipcourse/f.andom disk horse unaligned. Out of the comments you’ve received on your fics, what are two or three of your favorites?

I honestly don't know if I have any specific favorites. I love when comments repeat back a line from the fic or when they're basically giving a ted talk on what they liked. big confidence booster (which i often need after posting)

What is your wildest headcanon?

Idek. Polyam bau maybe? I don't think I have any particularly outrageous headcanons.

What’s your ideal writing setup?

I'm assuming this means like how you like your surroundings to be while writing. It doesn't matter too too much to me, as long as I'm physically comfortable and can focus. I do tend to enjoy writing more on my laptop, either in bed or on the couch depending on whatever else I have going on. Whether I listen to music depends on what I'm writing. Music is usually closer to the beginning of the process to get me in the swing but it's usually turned off at some point towards the end.

Do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?

I don't really ever outline unless I know it's going to be a multichap or require some sort of established timeline or world building. Sometimes I have ideas of events I want to happen so I'll note those down, but mostly kind of create as I go and see where things will fit, if at all.

Have a piece of a WIP you want to share?

“Can we keep her?” Raffi sighed. “Seven, honey, we talked about this.” Seven picked up the Eevee by her torso, her lower legs hanging freely as Seven moved closer to Raffi. She lifted the pokémon up to cover her face. “Eevee!” She chirped as if on cue. Lowering the pokémon and settling her below her chin, Seven did the best puppy dog eyes she could. “Pleeease?” 

Raffi stood and stared at Seven for a beat before bringing her hand up to her head, huffing lightly, “I need to learn how to say no to you.”

Usually just tags for whatever ship I'm fixated on or the work tag.

Do you like to post fics on a schedule or at random?

But actually, I don't like to schedule posting bc it kind of takes the fun out for the most part. I usually just post when the fic is done. I did attempt to keep myself on a schedule as I was actively writing a multichap, but I think I'd only do a posting schedule if it was for a multichap and the entire fic was finished.

What helps you focus when you write?

I honestly have no idea. I sometimes listen to music or use a timer to snap my brain into writing mode but it's hit or miss.

What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

mmm maybe we'll get by (autistic seven my beloved) or this emily and clyde drabble where they playfight cause they're doofuses and I love them.

Do you write for yourself, for others, or both?

Both kinda. It's mostly for me to get the ideas out of my brain but also to process things sometimes. I do write as a gift sometimes but it's mostly for myself I'd say (not that that stops me from worrying about how many people are reading)

Why did you start writing fanfic?

Honestly, I think it was to cope/process things in my life. Writing has always been that for me in a way.

How often do you read your own fics?

Rarely only bc I cringe looking back at most of my writing. I always have the urge to go back and try to rewrite but I resist.

Do you want to write something outside of fanfiction? If so, what about?

I have written a couple of short film scripts actually. I think I'd like to write about stuff people don't often talk about like mental health and neurodivergency and stuff like that. I don't think I have a particularly unique or special perspective or anything but still something I'd maybe like to do at some point.

If a movie or show were based on your fic, which fic would you choose and who would you fancast?

Oh I haven't thought about this. Maybe whole again just bc with so many characters and backstories it could become pretty dynamic as a tv show. I have no clue who I'd fancast in anything.

What inspires you and your writing?

Canon (duh), personal experiences, my friends and their headcanons.

Do you research for your fics?

Most of the time I look up something for the fic, but I rarely ever research for fics unless the character needs to be saying something they researched (cough cough spencer) or there's elements of my own world building that I want to be close-ish to canon.

What fics do you prefer on a scale of canon compliant to wildly original?

Somewhere between the two. I prefer when they're at least close to being in character but idc if they fuck around with what did or didn't happen.

Do you often write about a relationship or focus on an individual?

I write about relationships relatively often but it's not so much about the relationships as it is about these individual people and how their shit is affecting the relationship if that makes sense. At least that's more the mental process I have.

Have you included any sexy scenes in your fics? If yes, do you find them easy or difficult to write?

No <3 best I can do is a cut away. I've never written anything explicit bc I don't want to embarrass myself 😭

Is it easier to write angst or fluff?

Angst tbh. I usually have to get myself into a certain mindset to write pure fluff.

What sort of endings do you prefer to write: ambiguous, bad, happily ever after, etc.?

I don't totally have a preference but I think I usually leave them sort of ambiguous.

How many WIPs do you currently have?

Four I think lmao. They're collecting dust in my google drive I'm afraid.

Does anyone beta read or edit your fics?

Nope, I sometimes send parts to besties and/or ask for writing advice but I don't think I've ever have my fics beta'd.

Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?

PepperSpicedLatte. Always. I have some recs in my bookmarks on ao3.

What led to your interest in the fandom?

Are non-fandom friends aware that you write fanfic?

Only the ones who also write fic.

What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?

Somebody will read it, even if you think it's absolute dogshit. There is someone else in the world who will both read and enjoy it.

Do you like writing short fics or long fics?

It doesn't matter to me but they usually end up being on the relatively shorter side (1k-3k).

Do you have a writing milestone you’re working towards?

Nope.

Any advice for writers working through burnout or writer’s block?

I'm the one who needs the advice tbh... I can't help with that I'm afraid.

Would you ever want to write something canon if you got the opportunity?

Maybe but I feel like it would be really overwhelming and nervewracking.

Is there a favorite trope you like to write?

Hurt/comfort and established relationship. Also mutual pining.

If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

Oh hmm maybe run your hands through my hair bc Seven doting on Raffi is >>>>>
