one of the better mobile shape games out there, imo: Woody Block Puzzle

Classic mode gameplay involves placing shapes on a grid to fill complete vertical or horizontal lines which then vanish. shapes are given 3 at a time and their dimensions are random. the round ends when you cannot fit any more shapes onto the grid:

pros:

free!

works offline (i played this a ton on a recent flight with no wifi).

no in-game currency and no daily tasks.

no limits on Classic mode, can play infinite rounds forever.

no constant popups telling you to recruit friends or link your socials.

can mute game sounds within the app so you can put on music/YT video/etc on your phone while playing.

hits the right balance of low stakes yet challenging with the random shapes, imo. gotta remember to leave space for tough shapes that might appear.

cons:

there are limited-time event modes but they're optional. Classic mode is always available.

there are ads: you get one after a round ends (no ads that interrupt a round) and there's a small one at the bottom of the screen. some of them flash (i put a sticky note on the bottom of my phone to block them).

(hope this goes without saying, but i'm not getting paid to promote this game. only sharing bc it's a Less Shit™ option I enjoy)

FROSTSOUL/SNOWSWORD: Mission of Proximity

Luna Snow was so excited when the X-Men first approached her for her help. Less excited when it meant she would be shoved in a closet with one of the less friendly mutants. Illyana wasn’t thrilled either to say the least.

They had to wait in a broom closet, so undignified in Luna’s opinion though Illyana didn’t seem to care much. It was a fairly closely knit space. Even a single person would have a tough time being comfortable there, so two grown adults? Safe to say they were pretty much squished together.

Ten minutes of ear splitting silence passed when Illyana spoke.

“Your eyelashes. They have frost on them.” Her accent is deep and echos in Luna’s skull, “Is that intentional?” Illyana spoke carefully, at least more careful than she would regularly.

Her voice was always so bold and commanding, the kind that made demons and monsters bow to her in Limbo. Her voice held the same strength but it was joined by a softness that felt foreign.

Luna looks at Illyana, stunned that she noticed something as small as that. It was almost…..

“No, I don’t mean for it to happen.” Luna’s voice is tentative, “I guess it’s just a part of the powers. You know how it is, I bet.” Luna offers a smile to the mutant who gives her an unamused look.

“No, I do not know.” She tilts her head ever so slightly as she looks at Luna, studying for more of those easter eggs. “Your lipstick.”

Luna’s face reddens as she remembers that she smudged off her lip combo awhile ago. Frankly, she’s surprised Illyana noticed such a small detail. Luna always kept a more natural lip look.

“Your lips are frosty too. Is that unintentional like your eyelashes?” Illyana’s intense gaze on her lips made Luna shiver slightly.

Luna licked her lips subconsciously. “No, it just kind of happens.” Luna’s voice is a little shaky.

Luna Snow is no stranger to people paying attention to her. She’s had a spotlight on her as an idol since she was 16, so why is this so different? Paparazzi has followed her and she’s been seen by thousands of fans.

But the intimacy. Being so close that she could see her eyelashes in such detail. No one has ever noticed that before. Hell, it took Luna a few weeks to notice it herself. But it took Illyana 10 minutes.

Luna could hardly think, she was used to being viewed but this is the first time she’s ever been seen by someone. She was seen by Illyana.

Illyana’s gaze is still on Luna. Her eyes wander over every part of her face, bookmarking every detail to her memory without any reason as to why it feels so important to remember. By the time they’d leave the closet, Illyana swears she could draw a map of Luna’s face without seeing her.

“Your eyes…” Luna’s voice breaks her from her studying. “Your irises are a different shade than the rest of your eye. It looks like a small fire.” Luna’s voice carries it the small space like a lullaby to Illyana. She practically hums each vowel and purrs each consonant, stringing along a melody for Illyana. About Illyana.

The mutant lets out a soft huff, “Never noticed that. I’ll take your word for it Luna.” Her heart melts at the sound of her name from the other woman’s mouth. Her accent’s flare and the strength of her heart as she speaks makes Luna’s knees weak.

Luna stumbles a bit, maybe it was in purpose, she couldn’t tell and her mind is too fuzzy to remember. Either way she ends up leaning onto Illyana, bringing their faces closer together.

They mutant’s breath hitches slightly as she looks up at the idol in front of her. Without thinking, or maybe without moving at all, she pulls Luna downward enough to kiss her.

Illyana’s hand cups Luna’s face firmly yet tenderly as she kisses her. When she finally pull back, Luna leans down and pushes into another kiss.

Her hands find the shorter mutant’s waist and holds her closer. In turn, the mutant runs her hand through her hair and they move their mouths together.

When they finally pull away, they are both a mess. Of course, that’s when they get radioed from the other X-Men for help.

Luna licked her lips and fixed her hair as Illyana wiped her mouth and responded to the radio. Duty calls.

also. Illyana seems taller in Rivals but is shorter in base marvel canon aaaand after considering it, i kinda love taller Luna now (Sai height/age is all headcanon idk. she feels oldest but shortest? that feels right to me)
