The vicious snarl that came forth wasn't directed at the feline. No, the wolf's teeth were bared and ears pinned back in a frightening display aimed to protect them...
And to intimidate the razor-toothed lizard behind the white creature. The reptile had bloodlust in their eyes, and was ready to strike.

Was that a cat?
Ellie crouched down, hand out reached. Fingers gently rubbing together.

((Starter for @snowhxart ))
It was just... easier to stay in the corner. Out of sight, out of mind.
The others can't see them, and therefore Spiderkit didn't have to see the judgement in their eyes.
It was a lot easier to hide when their siblings huddled around them. The only ones that had to see them were their caretakers while their mother was still a mystery. It would have been nice if they could huddle hide with their mother too.
Spiderkit, frankly, was an anomaly. Baring the same number of legs as their name sake. If it weren't for their sibling blindly cuddling next to them as they do now when they were born, they probably wouldn't have even be here right now.
Their light ginger brother, Fluffykit, perked up hearing little claws against the ground before snuggling closer protectively. Spiderkit couldn't help but instinctively snuggle closer as well, tucking all eight legs into hiding either underneath themselves or underneath him and their sisters.
Maybe if they stayed quiet, whoever it is would go away.

❝Gee, I'm-a not-a sure if they'll let cute little kitty cats in...❞
Why ever not? Luigi thought. Keeping cats out of a certified cat paradise seemed so unfair!
❝How 'bout I hide ya under my hat? You're gonna love it!❞
She purred softly at that, nodding. "Sounds like a cat's best dream," she teased. "Though, I prefer vole myself - that's my favorite prey."
"But, if you're looking for someone to go with you, I'll tag along."

@snowhxart asked: " you're bleeding. " re ;; blood, blood, blood
"Tell me something I don't know." The canine practically snarled the words, pain and lightheadedness making her already short temper nearly nonexistent. She was resilient but even she couldn't stand up long after being shot in the side. Crimson flowed from the spot, soaking orange-hued fur at an alarming rate. She sat; she had to.
"Fuck..."

The wolf couldn't argue with that much. She had learned as much early in her life, when she had been cast out for being what she was. It was learn, or die. Simple as that. She was alone so she had to retain quickly, adapt where she could. It was the only reason she was still here.
"You should be safe to hunt now. I doubt they'll come back anytime soon. But if you need an extra hand, I'm not busy at the moment."

[🐾] "One must be skilled out here in the wild if they're to survive." The strongest survived, and the weak did not, not unless they had others to help them. A group that looked after one another, protecting each other. Something that she thrived in, and pleased to be part of.
"Nice to meet you, Tala. I was out hunting for my coloney when that lizard decided to try to attack."

"That so? Must have been some training if you're so confident" Interesting. But the canine had heard stranger things. She herself had more than enough experience fending for herself and fighting off those who wished her harm for any reason. She had earned a bit of a reputation in some places for it.
"Tala. So, are you lost or just passing through the area?"
[🐾] "I would hope not. I've trained my whole life to be a fighter. To be defeated easily would be a waste of training I went through when I was younger."
Snowheart copied the wolf's example, taking a seat. She brought a paw up to rub an ear as the canine stretched, before straightening her prose.
"My name is Snowheart, by the way."

Tala would say this for the feline, they had spunk. That was a little rare for the species in her experience. Usually they preferred grace to violence, or anything that put them in an 'ugly' light. They found themselves akin to royalty but the canine was glad that wasn't the case for all of them.
"They knew they couldn't handle both of us. They made the smart choice." And saved the two females from trouble that afternoon. The wolf wasn't really in the mood to fight, and soon sat where she was, stretching her front paws out before straightening again.
"Don't worry about it. I can't stand predators who go for easy prey. It's a disgrace. Though I guess you weren't too easy after all."
[🐾] Pure white fur puffed out, helping the feline look twice her size as she hissed at the lizard. If the reptile thought she was going to be easy prey, the creature was sadly mistaken. Now, with a much larger predator on her side, the cold-blood animal would think twice about taking them both on, if it was smart enough to, that is.
She watched as the creature backed off, thinking twice about fighting two against one. She snorted as the reptile fled, leaving the pair alone. Her bristling fur laid flat, and she rose from her attack stance, golden eyes trailing up to the canine who saved her.
"A coward indeed. When faced with two predators, it swiftly backed off." She dipped her head. "I'm alright. Thank you for the help."

The wolf held her ground, only slightly shocked when the little white creature joined her in trying to intimidate the reptile. She didn't know if the two of them could manage to fight it off, but she wasn't going to back down.
They stood staring at each other for what seemed like minutes but was likely only a few more seconds before the reptile's snarl stilled, teeth stored away and claw withdrew. They seemed to think better of taking on two opponents at the same time, turned on their heel and soon fled. Though not without a few choice, bitter words.
"Coward." She scoffed and then looked at the strange creature. "Are you okay?"
[🐾] The canine's aggression toward the unseen enemy made the feline's fur bristle. From the way the wolf's eyes lingered behind her, she knew there was a threat there.
Carefully, every so slowly, did she turn her head to see the razor-toothed lizard behind her; bloodlust shining in the creature's gaze, the tense body telling her it was ready to attack.
Her own growl rumbled in her throat, as she slowly stepped toward the wolf, eyes still locked on the lizard pron to strike at any moment. Surely with two snarling animals, the thing would back off, less it get injured, or died.

The kitten pile visibly relaxed when met with a familiar voice. Fluffykit looked back at Snowkit, hazel eyes brimming with relief.
In the short two months they had lived among the others, Fluffykit had quickly learned who to trust and who not to trust.
Adults? Play favorites. Love his sisters but give his sibling looks.
Snowkit and the rest of her litter? Inclusive. Treats them equally. Doesn't pick on anyone.
It was so strange how the kits seemed more understanding than the adults. Even the queens.
He felt Tigerkit and Banditkit suddenly perk up in the pile. He looked back to see a set of silver eyes and grey eyes sparkling in interest as Spiderkit slowly and tentatively raised their head.
That's it... now they just need that push...
"Sounds like fun. Right guys?"
Banditkit practically lept out of the pile.
"Moss ball!!!"
And one by one they all stood, Tigerkit gently coaxing her sibling to stand. Uneasily, Spiderkit did, their four pairs of legs wobbly awkwardly from numbness.
[🐾] Little claws scraped against the dirt that led into the kittaker's den. The scent of milk filled the air and warmth washed over a pure white coat. Yellow eyes scanned the area, coming to rest on a bundle of fur in the corner. Light ginger fur stood up far too much against the darkened walls, much like her own pelt.
"Hey, Fluffykit!" Snowkit mewed, bouncing over to the littler of four, one less than the one she'd been born into. "Do you guys wanna play moss-ball with us?"
By us, she meant her and her littermates. The little molley always went out of her way to try to include Spiderkit and the siblings. She knew how they were looked down upon, like she and her own siblings, and she wanted to make them feel welcomed.
Of course, there were ones that were friendly and welcoming, and then there were the ones with hostile glares and hisses. Jeering whispers, talking down to them. Those were the ones that needed to grow up. They had fluff for brains.

She watched the feline pad over, a smile on her face. She had only seen dogs around, never a cat. They had all but faded from existence. So seeing one was more than amazing.
Remaining crouched she refused to move, not wanting to startle the cat before him.
"I don't have anything you can eat, but please let me pet you."
