summary:   Ever since he was a boy he’s had trouble sleeping. He’d long ago resolved that he wasn’t insane, or mentally ill, or physically ill, for that matter. The latter two truths had only been verified after flushing thousands of pounds down the drain for a lab coat to tell him he’s just right-brained or some rubbish. He was as healthy as an underweight, sleep-deprived twentysomething with an addiction to smoking cheap cigarettes and consuming energy drinks could be. The only (small) hiccup was the other guy haunting his headspace for as long as he can remember, but like he said, that was only really very small.

Ship that you love but your friends don't (and that's ok): I pick my friends based on our OTP compatibility.

Wholesome ship: What is this “wholesome” of which you speak? OK. Let’s go with Franz Joseph and Sisi from The Empress. They are a real life couple and they get married and all, so that’s wholesome, yes?

Comfort ship: Athelnar. Definitely.

Crack ship: I’ve always kind of disliked this term. All ships are valid ships. But I suppose if you’re asking me for something a bit out of the way, I think I’ve never confused readers of my fanfic quite as much as with that Peggy Shippen/Benjamin Tallmadge Turn fic. Oh, and would we consider ships from different works crack by definition? Because I kind of always liked my Emma Woodhouse/Henry Tilney ship.

Ship that should be popular but isn't: Beside all the opera ships that should have as many fics as those idiots from the MCU? Actually, I would love it if literally anyone other than me wrote a Shivers/Monza fic (Joe Abercrombie’s First Law series). They've been eating my brain for years, and I don't understand how there aren't others going through this with me.

Opposites attract ship: Would Rodrigo and Carlo from Don Carlo count? One is the most prefect, sweet, ideal man ever created, and one is a Tenor™.

Canon ship: I know I mentioned them earlier, but I’ve actually been thinking more and more about Laurent and Damen lately. They are a gift that keeps giving.

First ship: Laura Roslin and Lee Adama from BSG. (Aside—I saw a post today talking about ship fights, and folks, you should have been on the official Sci Fi Channel forums for the Apollo/Starbuck/Anders ship wars back in the day. Fucking wild times. I was happy off in a corner with about 6 other people loving my weird ship other people literally thought was a joke.)

I think soulmates is a trope that needs to be done right. I love a slightly angsty soulmates AU (read a really good one about scars that only your soulmate can see, *chefs kiss*), but I've also seen ones that just toe the line of too cheesy for my liking!

Lambert shifts. He rolls over. He sniffles, then rolls over again. He flips onto his stomach. He flips onto his back—

“Will you stay still?”

Aiden’s voice is loud and clear in his ear —of course it is, they’re laying side by side and practically glued together— and there’s something in his tone that reminds him of training with Vesemir. He dismisses the thought.

“Sorry, uh.” He shifts again, but slowly this time. “Can’t find it.”

“What?”

Lambert blinks up at the night sky. “The, uh— the position.”

“The position?” Now Aiden shifts, too. “Which position.”

“The one I usually sleep in.”

“Which is...”

Lambert turns, and he’s facing Aiden now. His features are sharper in the moonlight, he notes, his scars deeper and his pupils are dilated. Must be the cold, he reasons.

“I usually sleep on my back,” he starts, and he feels ridiculous explaining it, but Aiden asked. “And I can’t, now, but my body hasn’t realized yet.”

Aiden narrows his eyes. They’re dark green now, bordering on brown, and the way the moonshine reflects on them makes Lambert’s breath catch. Must be the cold.

“You’re really weird, you know.”

Lambert sighs. “I know.”

They’re quiet for a while, neither of them asleep, and Lambert doesn’t think he’ll be able to sleep at all. He starts naming his potions. Swallow, Cat, Kiss, Shrike— who named them, anyway? He’ll have to ask Vesemir next winter. He feels a shiver run through his spine.

“It’s cold, isn’t it?”

Aiden stirs. He blinks lazily at him. “What?”

His voice is thick with sleep, and Lambert winces. “Uh, no, I just— it’s cold.”

“It is,” Aiden concedes, “which is why we’re sharing my bedroll.”

“Hmm. Yes. I’m— uh. I never do that. Sharing.” Lambert isn’t sure why, exactly, he’s telling Aiden all this, given the Witcher probably wants to kick him off his bedroll and get the fuck to sleep. “I never talk this much, either.”

“I know.” Aiden’s eyes have gone dark. “Listen. I want to sleep. I know your heart is racing, because I feel it against my chest and because I smell the way your blood is cursing through your veins.”

He’s right, which is why Lambert can’t protest.

“So,” Aiden continues, “here’s what we’ll do. You’ll spoon me.”

“What?”

Aiden looks at Lambert with infinite patience. It reminds him of Vesemir again. “You.” He grabs Lambert’s arms. “Will spoon me. So you can focus on something other than the cold. So you can sleep, and I can sleep, and we can get to Hagge tomorrow.”

Lambert doesn’t find it in himself to argue, so he just lets himself be led, lets Aiden’s warm hands press against his skin until they’re laying side by side, his knees slotted against the back of Aiden’s, the Witcher’s back to his chest. It’s nice, he has to admit, and it’s efficient — he’s not so cold anymore. Aiden’s heart beats quicker than his, just slightly so, and he can feel it close to his own heart.

It’s nice. He says so.

“It is,” Aiden mumbles. “Go to sleep, Wolf.”

He does.

agreed that jim not shooting oswald at the pier is a very big kick into the plot and partly the reason why he'll be penguin later on, and absolutely agreed oswald had a crush on him after that? bc wow the doe heart eyes in their first encounters, the way he consistently reaches out to jim only for jim to be all vanilla and try to avoid any involvement with him (rip to jim but i'm different). like, they're definitely complimentary characters and "two sides of the same coin", to quote a friend of mine. whereas nygmobblepot is kind of the same dynamic in terms of... evilness if that makes any sense? 😂 what makes jim and oswald's relationship so interesting is that permanent tug of war they got going on, good/bad, light/dark, crime/law

I'm slowly digging myself deeper into the gobblepot hole because of you :') I need to watch the earlier seasons again, but I just rewatched the scene where they kill Galavan together on the pier, and... yeah. They're dynamic really is just so interesting !! And that scene specifically, as you mentioned before, is such a crucial turning point for Jim's character, and Oswald is a huge part of that. Jim just. stands there and lets Oswald get his revenge for his mother, and then HE SHOOTS GALAVAN !!! He's the one to pull the trigger !! He's no longer trying to avoid any involvement with Oswald, they just killed a man together and he just let Oswald mutilate the body (he literally shoved an entire umbrella down his throat ????) and that good/bad dynamic isn't really at play in that scene anymore. And also Oswald's face when he looks at Jim after he shoots Galavan, he's so soft there he really is grateful for Jim in that moment for helping him.

Anyways, it's safe to say I will be thinking about Oswald's crush on Jim in the first season for the rest of the day (because he really was pining for him man) and also how these two have such an impact on each other throughout the show because I'm even more invested now. If you see me reblogging gobblepot shit, just know it's your fault lmao
