Thorn in My Side
Fandom: Star Wars - The Acolyte (Smuggler AU)
Pairing: Qimir x GN!Reader

A/N: in the same universe as Broken Promises
Qimir Masterlist
Tumblr media
You’re fiddling with a wire when you suddenly stop, “Must you breathe so hard?” You question directed to your companion behind you.
“I’m nervous,” he simply responds.
“You’re nervous?! I’m the one hacking into this thing!” you gesture to the weapons vault in front of you.
“I’m nervous for you!”
You sigh and look over your shoulder, “Qimir, take three big steps back.”
He holds his hands up in surrender, taking steps away from you. You murmur a “thanks” and proceed to continue working on the wires.
Eventually, the vault light goes green and the doors slide open. You immediately start grabbing crates with various blasters, bombs, ammo, etc..
Qimir stumbles a bit with the weight of the crates, but he manages, "Did your client say how much they wanted us to take?" He starts bringing them towards the back door of the bar.
You shake your head, "Nope! As far as I know, they have issues with the Twi'lek gang. As long as the Twi'leks are losing something, my client is winning."
"Makes sense, I guess," Qimir says as he heads to the freighter outside to start loading up the weapons.
You take a look at your chronos on your wrist, a timer telling you that the minutes are almost up.
"Qi, we gotta hurry!" It's been twenty minutes since all of the Twi'leks had fallen unconscious due to you slipping a sleeping concoction into their drinks.
You help Qimir carry crates onto the freighter, somewhat carelessly tossing them into the cargo because there was absolutely no time to organize.
The two of you work in perfect sync, grabbing as much as you can, piling it in the freighter.
"HEY!" a twi'lek stands outside the back door, causing you and Qimir to freeze.
You hand Qimir one more crate and start pushing him into the ship, "Go! Go!" Blaster shots start going off as the ramp starts raising.
Qimir trips over crates as you head to the cockpit, starting up the ship.
"More are coming!" He calls out as he joins you.
"We're fine," the ship raises into the air and you bolt out of there, blaster shots still hitting the ship but do little to no damage.
Qimir lets out a breath of relief as he leans against the wall, "That was a close one."
You put the ship in autopilot and spin in the chair to face him, "You good?"
He nods, giving you a thumbs up, "I'm good."
You chuckle and stand, "C'mon, let's make contact with the client so we can get a rendezvous point."
__________________________
Selleck, the Rodian who employed you for this job, gets a good look at the haul you brought back. He nods, speaking to his Rodian henchmen in various hoot-like noises. He then turns back to you and speaks basic, with a hint of a lisp, "You did well. You said this was half their vault's contents?"
You nod, "Although, we prioritized getting the bigger items since that would hurt them the most."
"Good thinking. We'll pay you the remaining half of the credits," Selleck nods to the Rodian on his left and, a sack of credits being tossed your way.
You take a quick look inside, it looking to be the amount of credits, "Pleasure doing business with you."
"And you as well," Selleck turns to head back to his ship, the remaining Rodians loading up the haul.
You and Qimir proceed to your own ship. You hand Qimir the bag of credits, "Your half, as promised."
"Thanks," Qimir says with an eager smirk. He tosses the bag in his hand, "We make a great team."
You cross your arms over your chest, cock a brow at him, "That so?"
"Yeah. We work well together."
"Aside from when you're breathing down my neck while I slice into the vault, sure. I guess we did pretty decently."
"Why don't I stay with you?" he proposes.
Your brows shoot up in surprise, "Excuse me?"
He shrugs, "I'm not gonna lie, my time with the Hutts has gotten...boring. But going on this job with you, it broad some fun back into my life! So whaddaya say? We team up, get jobs done, split the pay!"
You couldn't deny the fact that it was nice to have someone else around with you on a job. You'd been flying solo for a majority of your time as a thief and slicer. You also liked Qimir. He was cool, you and he always shared some good conversations. He can hold on his own for the most part.
You shrug, "Sure. Why not?"
Qimir fists bumps into the air, "Yes! You won't regret this, Y/N. I promise!"
"I better not," you give him a playful nudge before heading to the cockpit, ready to head back to Batuu to enjoy the spoils of your labor.

no thoughts just qimir taking you as his acolyte.
warnings: violence, potential enemy to lovers, tension, sfw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's like an avalanche.
when you feel the blood going down in the left side of head, your vision starts to get dizzy and it's there, there when you just happen to know you're definitely dying, cause there's no way you're surviving him.
the regret it's instant, and you know a low life bounty hunter like yourself does not deserve any mercy, so you're ready to say goodbye to the promised credits and to life itself, cause you deep down you just know, know its your end right there.
his hand moves in the air and you feel the pressure in response, the way the air seems to leave your lungs instantly choking, tears filling your eyes as you turned red: how did you think you were even standing a chance against a sith lord? the unknown client that contacted you seems to have lefted out the most important details when explaining you who you was your target, cause that was far from a simple formal smuggler who used to work for the hutt clan.
you had it coming. all those years getting away with murder, not responding to anyone in the galaxy. it's clear that death was always following closely, patiently waiting for the day you finally get what you deserve.
your combat skills are not as good as the sith, giving him at least a couple of minutes of a decent fight before experiencing the devastating pain of falling over and over again like you're nothing— "just kill me already," you would say when he finally lets you breathe, chin high cause you're not spending your last minutes being a damn coward, spitting blood in the concrete.
he seems to be enjoying every second of it, that smile creeping across his lips as he looks at you, the pain in your muscles that leaves you on the floor, the vulnerability. he enjoys how you're clinging into life, the hint of pride in your tone when you talk even when you're not in position to be snarky about anything at all.
you think he had enough with you already, an almost pathetic fight in the middle of the night that will mean nothing to him in the future. he turns the light of his red lightsaber on and it just glows against the dark night waiting for his next move, making you shiver as you’ve never saw one so damn close. there it is. your lame end.
and you don't know how, but you don't look scared. you've faced death before in your life and it does not scare you, even when the heat of the saber is close to your skin threating you to slide you open, you wait. wait for him to make the final move, to finally end with your life.
you look at his eyes hoping to torment him forever or something like that, but you wait for a death that never comes, a quick pain that has you forever expecting, receiving instead a sudden relief when his palms point to you and the large gash in your back starts to close by itself.
its confusing, and you don't move at first thinking it's a mistake, but you soon realize it's him closing your wounds like the tissue of your skin is nothing against the power of the force, it makes you gulp in response, how he's now sparing your life you know it means he’ll want something in return for it.
so you just look at him. and it takes you minutes to even try to understand what he's doing, why he's helping you when minutes before you were trying to kill him. sweat covering his body, chest still racing as your attack catches him off guard: why show mercy?
"get up" he would say stone cold, eyes glued on you when you're trying to do what you're told. you know he can get you killed in the blink of an eye if he wants to. "you're coming with me."

Status: finished writing this fic! (It will end in Episode 14)
A/N : Previously, I changed the story from a reader-insert to an OC due to backlash for specifying that the reader is SEA. I didn't enjoy writing it and nearly deleted it. However, support from AO3 readers encouraged me to stay true to my original style and affirmed that specifying the reader's ethnicity is not wrong (especially since Manny is also SEA). I’ll stick with the reader-insert style. If you don’t like that the reader is SEA, feel free to find other fics.
Also, today is my birthday. so I decided to give a gift to others by releasing a new chapter of my fanfic. I hope you like it.

[Episodes 2] You will never hate the desert. Your blood is the desert. The desert is your home and your tomb
You realize how quickly your life has changed, as your feet tread on the wet sand of Pabu, a small planet far from your birthplace.
Tatooine—where you were born and raised, is almost at the edge of the galaxy. There's nothing pleasant to see except for vast stretches of dry sand. The air is scorching hot because there are two suns in the sky. The cities are teeming with thieves, thugs, and smugglers. You hate your home planet so much, but your mother always reminded you, "You will never hate the desert. Your blood is the desert. The desert is your home and your tomb."
You know that the desert your mother spoke of isn't Tatooine, but another similar planet. An ancient world that disappeared from galactic records along with the death of your ancestors.
It's funny how your family's fate has always been the same: born in the desert and dying in the desert.
You hope desperately that your life will be different.
"Stop daydreaming; we still have a lot of work to do."
Qimir's voice comes from behind. His elbow gently nudges your arm, urging you to hurry off the beach. You turn and glare at him in annoyance, but obediently comply. You lift the cargo box to your side and turn onto the old stone-paved road, the only path leading to the upper town, the main trading hub of this island.
After reluctantly living together for more than two years, you've finally been given an additional role beyond being a prisoner. You're now Qimir's temporary assistant, helping him transport contraband to sell on small planets outside the watchful eyes of the Empire's law enforcers.
Qimir is tall with long legs. It only takes him a few strides to reach your side. "Haven't you ever seen the sea before?" the man asks, noticing that you keep turning to look at the blue ocean.
You nod. The faint, fresh, salty smell of the sea and the strong wind blowing across your face make you feel better than usual. "I grew up on Tatooine. There's only desert there. I've never seen this much water before."
You fall silent, suddenly realizing you've said too much.
No matter what, you always stay cautious. You try to speak as little as possible when you're near this man. But Qimir is the opposite—he talks incessantly, which is annoying. The more you show your irritation, the more he keeps talking. It's obvious he's deliberately trying to provoke you.
And this time is no different. Once he notices you're avoiding further conversation, he takes over, telling you about Pabu and other planets without you asking. You want to pretend not to listen, but deep down, you can't help but be interested. You've never had the chance to travel or learn about life on other planets, having spent most of your time after your mother's death quietly hiding. Until you met Qimir,. He's traveled everywhere, and he seems to know everything. Many things sound nonsensical, but many are too interesting to ignore. Like the story of Mon Cala, a planet that's entirely ocean, with a grand capital city standing tall underwater, and most of its population looking like fish. Or the fact that black holes aren't empty as many believe, but home to strange and dangerous creatures. However, they remain an unsolvable mystery because no one who has gotten close to a black hole has ever survived to tell the tale.
"I’d love to see fish people," you mutter to yourself, but Qimir’s keen ears catch it.
There's an inexplicable sadness in those words, he thinks as he turns to look at your profile, half-hidden by hair blowing in the sea breeze. "If our ship passes by there, I might take you to see them," he says, his words unexpectedly gentle.
You press your lips tightly, not responding. Perhaps you would feel a bit more appreciative if you didn't already know that what he said would never happen.
You've seen it in your dreams. Prophetic dreams foretell the future. In about four months, Qimir will have to deliver his last expensive cargo—which is you—to his client.
But beyond that... a shadow of doom completely obscured the future. You don't even know what this dream means. It's too dark to see, too terrifying, and too mysterious to understand. But one thing you're sure of, that day will be a day of death. And the clearest path is your own demise.
You frown. For a moment, you suddenly feel something—not in the form of a vision, but a deep premonition hiding beneath your consciousness.
A revelation is approaching.
But you are at a loss to determine what it could be.
Tumblr media
Due to Pabu's highly liberal political policies, the city's population includes many immigrants from other planets, most of whom are often outlaws. This means an increase in the number of thieves and robbers, and consequently, a higher chance of being ambushed.
No place in the city was entirely safe, so Qimir decided to set up camp outside the city instead. He called it a vacation home, even though nothing about it resembles a house In reality, it's a large cave on a seaside cliff, which had been modified to resemble a living space. It's somewhat odd and out of place, but it has everything a typical home would have, all neatly organized. There are beds and desks carved from the gray stone of the cave, a small kitchen adjacent to the pantry, and even an old cleaning droid on duty.
For you, this place is much quieter than the city. There aren’t even small animals around, let alone people passing by. It’s an ideal spot for meditation or perhaps trying to use your visions again to find a way to escape.
Of course, you haven't given up on your original intention. You’re just waiting for the right moment.
But you can't use your visions recklessly. It’s not just that you don’t want to; foresight is too dangerous, It’s a trade-off that isn’t worth the risk. The future is not like the past. There are countless branching paths that can change at any moment. The further you look, the more painful it becomes, and you risk losing your sanity. You don't have the strong prophetic abilities of your ancestors. You are a weak, distant descendant. Without the training your mother forced upon you, you probably would have died before you turned fifteen.
For safety, you decide to look at the near future, roughly calculating the chances of what will happen tomorrow if you decide to escape. All the results lead to only one path: no matter how you try to escape, Qimir will still catch you.
You sigh in frustration, silently questioning yourself. which path could possibly help you avoid death?
"We are **** ******** We don't hope, we plan"
Your mother's voice echoes repeatedly in your head as you lie with your eyes closed on the hard stone bed, trying to meditate silently instead of falling asleep as you should.
You spend the whole night pondering the things your mother taught you, until the morning sunlight creeps in through the cave mouth, gradually dispelling the darkness of the night.
You hear Qimir stirring, getting up from his bed, followed by the sound of coarse fabric rubbing and footsteps as quiet as a cat sneaking out silently. He always goes out at the same time and returns later in the morning. Qimir never tells you what he does, and you never ask. You don't want to talk to him more than necessary.
...But that doesn't mean you're not curious.
You step down from the bed, feeling the stiffness that gnaws at every part of your body, especially your legs. You shake out your legs before walking outside the cave, following the earlier footprints stretching across the sandy beach. The early morning air is quite cool because the sun hasn't fully risen yet, making the sea breeze chilly. You hug yourself to ward off the cold, regretting not bringing a cloak. All you have on is a long-sleeved cotton shirt and baggy brown pants made of low-quality fabric, so thin they barely protect you from anything.
Soon you notice a pile of clothes left on the sand near a rocky outcrop by the beach. You recognize them as Qimir's clothes. You scan the area for Qimir before spotting his tall figure soaking in the water, naked and relaxed amidst the sea and the surrounding rocks of various sizes, which look like protective ramparts or a hidden place secluded from the outside world.
The sight makes you startle, almost exclaim but manage to stop yourself. Embarrassment quickly forms as a flush of heat spreads across both your cheeks. You didn't expect to intrude on his private time like this. Luckily, Qimir has his back to you; otherwise, you would have felt even more awkward if he had seen you first.
You know that the best thing to do right now is to quietly slip away before Qimir notices. However, something about him catches your eye first.
It's the large scar on his back—a terrifying long mark crossed-shaped. It definitely doesn't look like a scar from a mere accident, but more like someone intentionally tried to take his life.
You frown, confused, curious, mixed with a strange sense of apprehension towards Qimir. What could he have done to deserve this?
For the first time, you realize that you don't know anything about this man, except for the name he told you.
"If you're going to stare at me this long, I might have to start charging you."
You jump in surprise. Qimir didn't even turn to look at you when he said this.
Before you can make an excuse or hurry away, he turns back as if anticipating it, meeting your eyes openly with a mischievous, teasing smile. Those black eyes look particularly intense, contrasting with his pale skin in the water.
"Want to join in?"
His hand sweeps back the damp hair falling over his face before he swims closer to you. Water droplets cling to his tall, muscular frame, sparkling like gems in the sunlight, breathtakingly beautiful and alluring.
The sight makes you breathless, as if you're drowning underwater even though you're standing on solid ground.
It takes almost a moment before you regain your composure. Your feet quickly retreat from the shore, as if afraid he might drag you into the sea. "Don't move!" you shout at him when you see Qimir about to rise from the water while still naked, leaving you flustered and unsure of where to look.
Qimir can't help but laugh at your mix of shock and anger. "If you're not going to join me, I'd like to put my clothes back on." The man points to the pile of black clothes near your feet. "But if you want to see me naked, I don't mind," he smiles innocently, his sparkling eyes never leaving you for a second.
You feel increasingly irritated. You know he's trying to tease you again.
You want to get back at him somehow, even just a little.
Your eyes glance down at his clothes on the sand, and suddenly you have an idea.
"Your suggestion is very interesting," You nod at him before reaching down to pick up his clothes. "Seeing you walk around naked would be quite a sight indeed."
Qimir's eyes widen, only realizing what's happening when he sees you clutching his clothes and running away at full speed.
"You!! Stop right there!"
The shouting voice behind you sounds closer than you expect. You quickly glance back and see Qimir chasing after you rapidly, still naked. His bare body and flustered expression are both hilarious and amusing. The allure he had before is completely gone.
You can't stop laughing, even as he finally catches up to you.
You stand no chance against Qimir in terms of size or strength. As soon as he grabs you, the outcome is inevitable. After a brief struggle, Qimir trips you, causing you to fall onto the sand. The impact leaves you winded, but you keep laughing even while lying there. It is the first time in a year that you have the chance to laugh so heartily and for so long.
Qimir hurriedly dresses as fast as he can, glaring at you as you show no signs of stopping your laughter. He then sits down beside you, his broad chest under his clothes rising and falling with rapid breaths, exhausted from the sudden morning exercise. "You little brat," he says to you, still panting, trying to contain his anger. "I should just kill you."
He means it; he isn't joking. If anyone else had heard this, they might have been terrified, but you don't care. You are laughing so hard you can barely breathe, your cheeks flushed with a rosy glow, as vibrant as any typical teenager should be. Qimir stares at you without blinking, this time not in anger but in contemplation.
You have never smiled or laughed before, not even once. You always wear an expression as if you are carrying the weight of the entire world, like someone hiding something deep in their heart or someone who has experienced too many terrible things to mention. Many times, he senses this—you seem like someone much older, perhaps even more than him, as if an old soul is trapped in your youthful body.
Who exactly is this woman? He wonders, looking at your plain, unremarkable face. There is nothing particularly memorable about it, except for your eyes. They are the deepest, most brilliant blue he has ever seen.
There is something both captivating and unsettling about you.
"You have talent, you're cunning and quick. You'd make a good thief. Could be quite helpful in my work."
You stop laughing and look up at Qimir. His tone sounds too serious to be joking, but his lips are curved into a smile, completely different from his angry demeanor earlier. "Are you offering to teach me?" you ask, confused.
"Would you like to learn?"
You let out a dry laugh, shaking your head slowly. "What's the point, when I'm probably going to..."
You don’t finish your sentence, letting it trail off. The bright expression from moments ago is fading once more.
"When you're what?" Qimir asks, his curiosity about you growing stronger.
"Nothing," you answer his question with the same phrase you always use, while painfully swallowing the word 'die', unwilling to reveal more.
You don't realize the sharp, intense gaze from Qimir, subtly hidden beneath his friendly smile.
...and you certainly don't realize that your choice to remain silent might lead to events spiraling beyond control.

She's Mine [Intro]  She's Mine [Part 1] She's Mine [Part 2]
______________________________________________________________
You and Qimir had been on the road for months now. Vernestra couldn’t put out an official warrant on you both—not without raising questions she didn’t want to answer. Instead, she relied on something more insidious: whispers, rumors, just enough to keep you glancing over your shoulder but never enough to reveal her true intentions.
So now you found yourself sitting in a mossy dive bar waiting on a pilot that could be your last chance to escape republic space. He was 20 minutes late and it had been one hell of a day. Your patience was wearing thin.
You felt someone sit down at the stool next to you. Not giving them any notice ----until they spoke.
"Oi. Ale for me and whatever the lady wants."
You stifled a grunt, eyes remaining fixed on your drink.
"Not interested."
The bartender, unfazed, slid a glass down the bar landing directly into the strangers hand with ease. He took a full three chugs before wiping his chin with the back of his hand.
Exhaling he exclaimed. "Not interested?... Handsome fella like me? Sure you are."
"Its been a rough day." You grimaced, still not sparing him a glance.
"Well its about to get a little more difficult."
You could feel him shift beside you. Instinctively, you unholstered your blaster and aimed it directly at his crotch. You were now face to face with Ian Skynyr. Notorious playboy and smuggler.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." You whispered.
He only froze, eyes widening on where your blaster now rested. His shoulders slightly relaxed almost as impressed as he was shocked.
"Easy"
"Like I said its been a long day and I'm not especially forgiving on those. So get lost."
"One of my men is in a bacta tank thanks to you."
You recalled what had transpired a mere few hours ago.
Some thug saw you walking through the bazar. Cloaked, your figure appeared small and unthreatening. He assumed you'd be an easy target. He assumed wrong.
Qimir had found you standing over the aqualish male, his breathing labored, knocked unconscious with far more hidden injuries.
All Qimir had said to you was, lets go. No emotion shown on his striking face.
"If he wanted an easy pocket to pick he shouldn't have cornered me."
"Listen sunshine, you put me in a bit of a bind here."
"Not my problem. I know your line of work and I'm not looking for that kind of heat."
Neither you or Qimir could take that right now.
The stranger didn’t back off. He leaned in, just enough for you to catch the scent of engine grease and blaster residue.
"Oh I think it is, don't think I don't know exactly why you're sitting here."
You suppressed a laugh. Of course.
"So I can assume you intercepted my pilot."
"Theres now a debt to pay. Im here to collect."
"I wouldn't bet on it."
"Right... Only a certain type of woman wears with an LL-30 blaster pistol strapped to her thigh."
"And it only takes a special kind of idiot to steal from her." You retracted the gun back to under your cloak.
He cracked a smile.
"The job I have lined up that you so gracefully mucked might actually be of some interest to you."
"I highly doubt that."
"You and your friend need to get to the outer rim no? Something about avoiding the order? I can provide that for you both so long as you pay whats now owed."
You couldn’t hide the shock on your face.
So the pilot had a loose mouth. But you knew Qimir would later curse you for your own.
"I don't owe you anything."
"Deny that little fact all you want. What you can't deny is that the republic has been slowly tightening its grip on hyperspace routes. Good luck finding another freighter that can slip past their patrols unnoticed."
You frowned.
He wasn’t wrong. Vernestra wouldn't risk the upper hand she now had on the two of you. It was easy enough to establish stricter checkpoints in the name of peace and safety. Finding another ship capable of making it past their checkpoints undetected and unquestioned would be next to impossible.
You sat there. Silent. Weighing the options in front of you. Even though you had your finger on the trigger and every reason to pull it, you squirmed underneath the predicament he now faced you with.
He watched the gears turning behind your eyes, carefully calculating your next move.
"Well." he sighed "If you're that confident, I guess its easy enough for me to find another replacement."
He slowly stood, nudging the now empty glass towards the edge of the bar.
"Good luck out running the damned Jedi."
What were your chances of another opportunity like this? As damned as the circumstances were.
Before he could step out of the cantina you turned.
"Wait."
Ian inclined his head to you, smile spreading across his stupid face.
Qimir was going to kill you.

No, no cuz listen.
@dealingdreams and I have discussed how Qimir/The Stranger gives trapped animal vibes. And she mentioned how maybe it was something similar to Ben wherein someone spoke to him from a young age in his mind.
(Kylo theme plays in the distance)
(It literally also played while Kelnacca...had someone else...in his head.)
And idk where, but someone pointed out that his cave has those Cortosis veins. So it, or maybe even the whole island, potentially has a similar veil of protection as the helmet aka blocking thoughts/energy etc.
Which means, if that's the case, this dude is hiding and has been hiding for a long time.
He only seemed to take on the "Qimir smuggler rat man" persona because Mae wasn't doing what she was supposed too and he wasn't even sensed by the Jedi in the force. Overall, he probably assumed he had laid low long enough to go unnoticed without the helmet.
Then he made himself very obvious, and if someone were looking/feeling/sensing they probably found him. Aka, his display on Khofar led Plagueis to the Unknown Planet.
Cuz remember...the helmet broke. He didn't have it on for hours after that fight.
I am personally not going to assume EU stuff is canon until it is made canon. So, while it could be Bal'Demnic, that has not been confirmed. Additionally, just because it could be Bal'Demnic it doesn't mean Plagueis has tapped that resource yet. It could still be unknown to even him until right now.
Now, whatever happened between Qimir and Vernestra, we know she thought he was dead. Aka, he was either actually dead or very close to dead.
(Additionally, this would mean that he initially had no reason to hide from her if he could assume she thinks him dead. So, if he has been hiding, he's been hiding from someone else.)
Plagueis most likely scooped that boy up and treated him like a science project for a bit. Screwing with him mentally in the process (a nice bit of further Sith ideological brainwashing). Then, of course, Qimir became the Apprentice.
(This would make him a bit of an analog of Darth Venamis. Far from the same, but taking bits of him...but also, surviving/escaping being an experiment.)
Which could mean he has been fed the Sith code and the Jedi code by those masters, but he has already had traumatic experiences with Both sides...leading to this lack of care for rules/wanting freedom.
(Aka Power of Two, not Rule of Two "rules rules rules if you never follow them, you never have to break them.")
And Qimir has repeatedly been compared to a Vampire in interviews and has comments and imagery within the narrative that lean that way as well.
(The floating/disappearing, "it was a very long time ago", the implication that when Sol knew him Sol was probably a child...being carried away in a swarm of bats-I mean moths)
I know so many people think Plagueis is involved with Osha and Mae...but I don't think he is, yet.
At the moment, I still think he's there for Qimir.
(Also, I'm not really pro having this guy show up for 3 seconds and suddenly literally everything is about him and he did it all. If he already did everything, where is he meant to go within the narrative exactly? If he already knows how to create life and Has Created Life?...anyways)
I think he's checking in on his potentially immortal or at least inhumanly long-lived test subject... I mean Apprentice (who may or may not have actually been resurrected). And, somehow, said Apprentice has linked up with a woman who was created using the force.
These two are literally Plagueis's version of Christmas.
P.S. I think he wants an acolyte for exactly the reasons he said. We have been repeatedly shown and told that Qimir/The Stranger speaks the truth...or, at least, his truth.
But...this doesn't necessarily disprove my other idea that he wants to draw out Vernestra have her go against Plagueis so he does not have to do that.
Going back to the idea that both of these Masters are powerful and they have both screwed him up royally.
And despite this, he can still fight blind in the force.
He is extremely balanced for someone who realistically shouldn't be if he's fully dark.

We all saw how Qimir manipulated Mae throughout the first couple of episodes in his non threatening little smuggler persona. He is constantly testing what she will do—leading her to the Jedi, acting foolish in the forest—and how she really feels when the stranger isn’t there. And she fails, because Qimir doesn’t want a pupil as much as he wants a loyal soldier to command. Think Palpatine and Vader
Now Qimir is doing the exact same kind of testing and manipulation with Osha acting like she can leave and he won’t kill her as soon as she starts swimming and some of y’all are taking him at face value? Please be serious.

Okay one thing I'm really curious about with The Acolyte and would love to hear thoughts.
Qimir said to Mae that 'you know the Master 'likes to collect people'. I know he was using the 'smuggler' persona as a cover so he could keep an eye on her but I can't help but wonder who else he might have had working for him.
Are there others out there? Does our perfect dude have a mini team of people at his beck and call doing odd little jobs for him? If so, who are they? Because whilst it might have been a throw away comment and would only refer to himself and Mae, I still find it super curious.
What are other people's thoughts?

Okay another thing with the acolyte. I absolutely think there is more with Qimir then meets the eye. It’s obvious that the whole drunk smuggler thing is an act. Again I don’t think he’s the Sith Lord, but I do think he knows a lot more than Mae does.
A lot of fun things to theorize for this show.

Question #1
What do we think about Qimir/The Stranger?
Tumblr media
I know this "I have no name" part is said in response to "What are you?" and as I (think) I said I'm pretty sure this part means that he says it like "well, if you must call what I am (me) something, I guess it's gonna be a Sith."
BUT the awkward little smuggler persona was just something he put on for Mae, and those episodes are credited as Qimir, after the reveal he is seen as "The Stranger". So what are your theories?

we're 3 out of 8 episodes in, so the setup of the main mysteries is probably done. therefore:
Rating all the theories I've seen of the Sith's identity in The Acolyte
(based on the assumption that there is one main Sith or similar dark side character, shown wearing the scary helmet, and their identity is a major reveal. including everything i believe to be a genuine speculation, even if extremely improbable. ordered vaguely by the frequency i've seen them in)
Qimir. Very likely imo. Already confirmed to be part of the dark side conspiracy but playing the part of a harmless smuggler. Plenty of suspicious hints about him. The Jedi characters and Osha have interacted with him enough for the reveal to be a shock to them. It is unclear just how much Mae knows but the reveal could well be effective from her perspective too. 9/10.
Koril. Very anti-Jedi, and with a personal vendetta against the four on Mae's kill list. We didn't see her body with the rest of the dead witches. A hard-ass. Definitely respects unarmed combat, even if she herself fights with a staff. Could be a fun I am your father mother moment for Osha. What about her poor horns under that mask, though... 4/10.
Indara. Now that would be a twist. The main issue is her death, of course. Mae left right away and we didn't see anything afterwards but presumably the Jedi retrieved her body. 2/10.
Hego (Darth Plagueis). The timeline doesn't work with Legends, nor does his biology (Muun head size), and if they were going to change it that much, why not just make a new guy. Also neither the characters nor the vast majority of the audience know who that is. Let the Secretly Plagueis theories die. Kill them, if you have to. 1/10 only to distinguish it from the even more wacky ones.
Yord. That would be hilarious and a huge shock for both the characters and audience. "Who is he?" "I thought he was with you." It would give an extra layer to his tryhard fuckup image. 2/10.
Vernestra. This is mostly suggested by people not familiar with her from previous media, and would be massively controversial with her fans. It would be a huge shock for the characters who know and love her though. I can see why show-only viewers would interpret her instruction to return as suspicious. 2/10.
Sheev. Somehow Palpatine returned back in time... No. 0/10.
Sol. That would be a shock but mostly bizarre. 0/10.
Aniseya. We saw her body but just a glimpse while distraught Osha was dragged away... Unarmed combat is her thing and star wars does love I Am Your Father parallels. Also plenty of forbidden (dark side?) Force use. 1/10.
Torbin. The Force works in mysterious ways but uhhh no. 0/10.
Darth Tenebrous. Works timeline-wise but come on. Nobody knows who that is. 0/10.

Ok yes, I did a rewatch of the back half last night while waiting for the neighboring nightclub to close (they were really loud last night for some reason, I think they might have partially been outside? it was a nice night. Idk but I wasn’t going to sleep until at least closing time, so I watched a star war. or. 3 star war.)
this got SO long (did you guys know there are character limits on text blocks? WHO KNEW) so I'm cutting it
it’s so funny how immune I am to shipping. Totally cold. The High Republic has got me a couple times: Xiri and Phan-Tu's arranged political marriage that turns to genuine love and shockingly Xylan/Cair. (Why does Xylan drive me so crazy and yet this ship gets me EVERY time it comes up. He's the WORST but I love him and his cute husband and their dog. Argh.) Elzar/Avar is like...background radiation, you can't not but it's not like...I'm that gripped by it if you know what I mean? But yeah, I'm sorry, I tried to watch this latest episode through a more romance focused lens and was just left with....no.
There's arguments about whether or not he was being manipulative or genuinely vulnerable, if you really want to read it as genuine that's cool for you, I'm a bit more on team manipulation, because I was really appreciating on the rewatch just how good he is at being the exact kind of person needed to 'collect people.' Kudos Manny Jacinto, his range and the number of characters he's playing in one is so good. With Mae, he's a kind of bumbling smuggler she can feel like she's bossing around and an ally against their distant master (like she was kind of bossy of Osha when they were kids, and in the way might have felt she and Osha were allied against their moms/the coven/the galaxy). With the Jedi he intends to kill, he relishes in being their boogeyman. (I think that's closest to his true face, tbh, because he doesn't need anything else from them but their deaths.) He pushes the exact right buttons with Sol to hit at his emotional weak points (the raw grief from Jecki's death, what he's been hiding about Brendok), and now with Osha he's giving her what she wanted. Someone on reddit actually really nailed exactly what he was going to offer her: belonging, transparency, a way to connect with powers she's always struggled with that neither the coven nor the Jedi seem to have been able to draw out.
(A Sol 'Night' aside before I get back to the latest episode: there really is a good chunk of time after Osha wakes up where we don't know where both he and Jecki are, and I'm more solid that ever in my headcanon that he was getting her out of the main fight, probably instructing her to apprehend Mae, which yeah is dangerous but not 'Sith' level dangerous, and sit tight or head back to the ship, especially because then the first thing he does when he's back in the fight is order Osha and Yord back to the ship. Checkmate, Qimir, you ass.)
Okay, so, I want to note the exchange where Osha lists off that he's killed Yord and Jecki and he deflects because ow. Two things: 1) he's not even objectively right in what he's saying, 2) huge red flag that he...really doesn't see them as people, and only focuses on what they can *do* for Osha.
1) His response to her bringing up Yord is something like 'yeah and he totally would have turned you in' which is outdated information, my guy. Yes, he did think Osha had killed Indara but...it wasn't an unreasonable conclusion to draw. Osha had motive (if she was bitter Indara advocated for her training to stop), means (training), and opportunity (she had a day off and apparently no alibi, it's a bit clunky writing because she says that to a coworker and not Yord but...we have to go with it), and a witness identified her. Literally, once they figure out she's innocent Yord immediately stands up for her (when he follows her in the Temple), and all of their other interactions have been like...sibling-bickering level disagreements, him saying some pretty insightful stuff about facing her past, and trying to protect her in the forest. Justice for Yord, he was totally reasonable in suspecting Osha and was loyal to the end.
As for Jecki....yeah there's NO way of knowing how that would have gone, Qimir, because you killed her! Literally who knows! This was a teenager with a crush on the cool older girl, it could have fizzled naturally, Jecki could have decided that being a Jedi was more important than her feelings for Osha (what Qimir suggests as an inevitability), or it's totally possible that it DOES grow into something deeper and Jecki decides to leave the Order and they go get married or whatever. We'll literally never know, because he murdered her.
2) Which leads to point two: He literally only points out what they can *do* for Osha which I think glosses over the point that...they were people. It doesn't matter what they could have done to or for Osha, he shouldn't have killed them because they were people. He was the clear aggressor in the attack, they were defending themselves. (And you KNOW he had a lot of fun doing it, him being like 'oh I had to' yeah right bro.) They deserved to live just because...they were people. That's it. The response to all of this is 'that doesn't matter...you still killed them.' And I think that encapsulates the exact difference between Sith and Jedi ideas of love. The Jedi ideal of love is allowing these people to exist and grow outside of your ideas of them and what they can 'do' for you. And the Sith love is about usefulness and possession, not loving them as full people who have deep internal lives and can make their own choices. Idk. I've already seen the inevitable 'he has a point though, the Jedi suck because they don't allow people to feel as deeply as Osha, wow', but...what the Sith offer is not real love. Real love would not dismiss these relationships and the weight of their deaths just because they didn't have 'use' to Osha...
Anyway, I don't know how articulate that was, but no, Qimir did not 'have a point' with that scene any more than he had a point about...pretty much anything else. Boooo
Sol and Mae's back and forth on the ship is so interesting, especially trying to pinpoint the moment Sol figures out it's Mae. I think it is when they are talking in the dark. Basically everything after a certain point in that conversation can be interpreted as him poking at her to see if she'll slip up, or could be interpreted as being also addressed to Mae.
I also saw people saying Sol seemed to be taking a dark turn, and I definitely think the episode was meant to get us to think that (get more into Mae's headspace), but at least with the scene where he takes a minute downstairs to lash out and regain composure is pretty classic emotional regulation, I don't see that as particularly out of line. That fight was a huge emotional blow, it makes sense that he needs to go have a moment to feel those big feelings and he does seem to come back more focused. Where he's starting to make mistakes, is letting his feelings of guilt about Mae and Brendok guide his actions. I think he wants the chance to explain himself to her without the Order getting involved but...it's also not a great move to ignore a command to stay put and then disappear.
Another Problem: Bazil is seeing a lot of this without context. My 'Sol gets framed and that's how the Sith goes unnoticed and that's the solve to the how to kill a Jedi without a weapon' going stronger than ever. I think Bazil is going to be a problem if he survives (and they can find someone else who can talk to him without Yord.)
Also speaking of perfectly reasonable accusations, people are being So Mean about Vernestra and her apprentice but...as much as it's going to be a huge tragedy if/when Sol gets framed, it IS a reasonable accusation. Sol is the only survivor of the massacre and has done a couple of pretty shady things. I agree that Vernestra doesn't seem to fully buy it (and may have additional information), but I think in that scene, she's trying to talk herself out of it and running up against the evidence. I kind of liked the Socratic teaching vibes of that scene. Like she could have just said it herself, she clearly knew, and people are interpreting THAT as manipulation (leading her apprentice into making the accusation so she doesn't have to), but...it seemed like a teaching thing.
I also 'get' all the accusations that Vernestra was Qimir's master (his Jedi master at least, there is NO way they'd make Vernestra Sith, and if they did they'd immediately lose a bunch of the book readers, given the state of the subreddit after the episode aired and the theories started rolling out. Including me, if they make Vernestra a Sith I would immediately stop watching.) but: 1) lol that's my girl, if she was, she was probably right to kick him out of the Order, 2) I hope they leave that for a potential second season. Headland said there's 4-5ish mysteries that remain to be potentially explored later, and it's definitely centered around Qimir, so I'm hoping they just don't address it and I can later choose how invested I get in a second season (too late for this one, I'm already invested).
I am still holding out hope that it's a red herring though. That seems like it would have been the perfect time to drop a heavy accusation to Osha and continue driving a wedge between her and the Jedi, but he really lets that hang. I'm holding out hope that in fact he was 'thrown away' by a Sith master. Like he washed out of the Sith like Osha washed out of the Jedi, which would be a nice parallel for them. Apparently we're still missing a cast member? Someone has been confirmed in the cast and hasn't shown up yet, I'm betting they're the real Sith and they're going to come in like, right at the end as a lead-in to a second season focused more on the Sith side.
these are partially just hopes and dreams so I can dodge them trying to do something #Bad with Vernestra, but I also just think there's too much to wrap up in one final episode (not counting the next since it's probably all flashback) to also get into a whole Qimir backstory. I don't think people are going to...love that.....but it makes sense to me to set up a bridge to the second season, while wrapping up Sol, Osha, and Mae's storyline primarily.
I love immediately going back on everything I say 'I'm not going to post theories' *immediately posts theories*, 'I'm going totally offline' *writes essay-length posts on both reddit and tumblr*. What can I say, I was bored and had a lot of thoughts.
tldr: more power to the shippers, hope this doesn't come off as being an anti but I am not feeling it, Qimir is Not Correct, and I'm really holding out hope the lightwhip was just a Vernestra book easter egg like the hyperspace visions reference (which, btw, people are also misinterpreting rip)

Manny Jacinto on the Mystery of His Character in 'Star Wars: The Acolyte'
Manny Jacinto makes it clear that he’s playing neither a good nor a bad guy in the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte. Instead, his character, Qimir is described by the Star Wars Data Bank as a “former smuggler living life as a trader, procuring unusual things and enjoying a life of leisure.”  Continue reading Manny Jacinto on the Mystery of His Character in ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’
