Hello, I read your aegond fic series recently and wow, it’s kind of crazy how so many small details you added to it actually ended up happening in the show 😭 the little sunfyre boops, theory going around fandom rn that helaena sometimes mends Aegon’s clothing when she’s embroidering. MOST of Aegon’s characterization this season. Even Aegon listening to petitions kind of felt like the scene with Helaena doing the same. And I think you captured the vibes I get from all 3 of them based on the show perfectly. Aemond’s temper and overall pragmatic attitude is so spot on, the scene of him dressing down larys reminded me of him talking to the substitute Lannister hand in your fic.

It’s like my fix it for all the wasted potential of season 2. Im so sad bc i’m loving the actors’ portrayals but i hate so much of what they’re making them do?? So thank you for writing it!! You took everything i liked from the show and made smth very lovely and emotionally cathartic from it

thank you so much! i’m glad you enjoyed the series, and that it can make up for a bit of the stupidity of s2! as you can probably tell from the way i wrote the yellow dress series, i’m not best pleased with a lot of the writing choices for s2. i’ll go through each of the characters and tell you what i think:

alicent: i’m torn, because while i feel like show!alicent (and show!rhaenyra) does a massive disservice to book!alicent, because the showrunners seem to have got it in their heads that a sympathetic woman is one who is constantly the victim of those around her and that sympathy is more important than making a character interesting, i also think her characterisation in this season is pretty coherent for the way they set her up in s1, and i do enjoy it. ironically what i really enjoy is her and aemond’s relationship falling apart — i saw a very good post talking about the driftmark incident, and how aemond idolises her for her expression of protective fury while she hates that she lost control like that, and him realising she’s never going to stand up for him instead of rhaenyra like that again is an excellent way to fracture their relationship.

helaena: i really like her characterisation! aside from the fact that maelor not existing really diminishes b&c, i think they’ve struck a good balance between showing her being heavily affected but not reducing all of her agency like in the book. the fact that they’re giving her and aegon’s relationship more weight than they did in s1 pleases me greatly.

aegon: i mostly enjoy his characterisation this season — i really enjoyed the second brothel scene as it showed he hasn’t really stopped being a bit of a shit to aemond over the years, and let’s be honest, he’s never going to stop, that’s just how their relationship is. what i don’t like is the ways the showrunners have deliberately exaggerated his incompetence, like him being shut out of the plan for rook’s rest, going into battle drunk and not even knowing high valyrian. i feel like this is partially because the showrunners really want us to know this is the rhaenyra show, and partially what i said above with regards to alicent — because it’s the rhaenyra show, they seem to have it in their head that characters can only be sympathetic if they’re victimised by others to some degree and not directly involved in prosecuting the war. so if they want some degree of sympathy for aegon, they feel like they have to diminish his involvement, and make him a victim of his own team, which leads me on to…

aemond: of all the greens, i’m most annoyed at how aemond has been characterised this season. the writers seem to have decided he’s the character they can make an unequivocal villain even to his own side in order to make alicent and aegon “more sympathetic”. this when they did such a good job in his 13 minutes of screen time in s1 of making him more than the one-dimensional psycho he was in the book. and even in the book, he didn’t betray aegon at rook’s rest!! that was the lazy way out of the aegond relationship — though i might’ve hated it less if it was given any emotional weight. ewan mitchell is wasted on this writing; he does so well with simple facial expressions, but the writers seem to have decided that aside from the first brothel scene, aemond doesn’t get to have emotions. or, you know, a coherent character arc — with aegon’s comments about him being a loyal hound in ep 1, i thought he was being set up to have to choose between his own ambitions and loyalty, or that he might have a scrap of complicated feelings about rook’s rest, but no, the evil switch has been flipped, so bye bye character arc. that said, i love how he’s demolishing the small council at the moment and cackled out loud when he put larys down. get his ass, babygirl. he’s also the only targtower at the moment to be actually focusing on winning the war, so well done my pragmatic wife.

daeron: he exists! at last! stupid to not even mention him in s1, but i’m so fucking excited to meet him and deeply tickled to think of him as a mini-gwayne.

i don’t have too many thoughts about team black other than that the show has done unforgivable things to baela the brave… but i must admit that jace has wormed his way into my heart by being a) the prettiest, most fashionable princess of the season and b) constantly done with rhaenyra’s bullshit. he and aemond need to get together and commiserate over having to deal with their mothers’ nonsense.

Ok so I just watched the Minecraft movie. And I went in with the lowest of low expectations. I will say it did exceed those expectations. Here is a breakdown of my opinion spoilers ahead:

Overall Plot:: 3/10 - I think it had one?? Well no. I know it had one, they had to get the orb to go home. Now there were a bajillion side plots which complicated things and made it so the main plot was iffy and all the side plots were underwhelming.

Comedy: 8/10 - made me chuckle I won’t lie. I even fully laughed a few times. This will likely be the highest ranked score.

CGI: 5/10 - perfectly in the middle because it was either really cool looking (the landscapes) or fucking horrifying (all the villagers) with literally no in between.

Score: 4/10 - very disappointed tbh. MC has fantastic music that they should have utilized better but as it stood I only recognized two MC songs and they were used poorly. Pigstep should have been used as a fight scene song, instead of the fuckass dance thing. Furthermore, they were using (I think) Mice On Venus for all the heartfelt parts, to get that like nostalgia feel. And it probably could have been good if I cared about the characters.

Fight scenes/general action: 7/10 - generally it looked pretty good. I liked how a lot of the fights looked, I would have liked them better if they had better music behind them. Action was cool, I liked the minecart thing. There were a lot of explosions which were not really plot relevant but they looked nice

Writing: 3/10 - it felt as though my younger siblings got together and created the plot in real time. Which if it was purposeful… that’s neat! A cool idea that could have been executed better for sure. If it was not purposeful. Goodness gracious.

Acting: 6/10 - I genuinely believe they could not have cast better actors for this. My only gripe is the scenes that should have been sentimental simply didn’t feel like it to the point that I was laughing through all those scenes. But I don’t think that was the actors as much as it was the writers.

Costumes: 3/10 - goodness gracious choices were made, and very few of them made sense. (Jason Momoa made perfect sense all his outfits fit the character fantastically)

Refrences: 5/10 - DanTDM and Aphmau cameo is cool. Technoblade reference is sweet. I wish there were more like cardinal rules of mc references tho. Like don’t dig straight down should have been said at least once. There should have been a wildly unnethical cow farm or smth. Would have loved an MCC ref or hypixel ref.

Overall: 5/10 - Morbius was worse.

I feel like there’s a lot of sacrificing for a joke in hsr, which is definitely annoying especially when it just…doesn’t make sense, tonally and just logically. And I really do wish we found out more abt the TB, and I would’ve like even like a tidbit from firefly since we talk to her sm, we even play as her at the end. Or maybe get an offhand mention abt how she’s not supposed to tell us bc of the script or smth . I def agree w you, I cannot take the ipc seriously, bc there’s all this stuff abt how they’re doing stuff for their own benefit and profit but idk the stuff w the stellaron hunters and them is just so goofy, like it doesn’t make any sense.

I was just saying how it was silly that Kafka’s wanted poster literally says she likes coats on it, and her bounty, like that’s it. Shes so sjsjshbsbddbbewv. And I also came up with another fic idea, like Kafka in an idol/band AU, but also I think her being an actor w the other stellaron hunters would be funny. But yk if I ever get around to writing anything instead of Kafka just living in my brain, who would she be in a band with, I was think abt using some of the characters from the animated before the show starts thing, but the instruments just don’t go together. Also I think I need to work on writing Kafka in general, bc she’s so complicated and it’s fun but I also overthink things too much.

And the leaks were unfortunately right abt 4 characters on one side. I’m not as devastated as you ofc, but hopefully I win my 50/50. Hjskalskskskndn I will cry if I loose.

i dont think you should worry about overthinking when it comes to writing, it can be a weakness because then you focus too much on details and forget the big picture, but personally i also think j too much into things when i write characters like kafka especially. when every genuine emotion is in the twitch of a finger, there’s kinda no choice lol

okaaaaaaaay so my rant bc i can't text anyone right now

the episode was meh especially for the finale and just the whole season overall. it had some great moments and fun and logical interesting storylines but overall pacing and focus on random characters emergencies and brad just didn't leave enought time for actual main characters bobby is dead dead -- well i still think that was a stupid way for him to go. out of nowhere, in the middle of a season and with a illogical storyline. the episode was rushed, the main's death and funeral was 10 minutes total and not touching at all. like ok yeah he's dead. so what. literally close to no consequences (although i do get that it'll be explored in s9 and was a bit touched upon in s8 but it wasn't enough for me). still believe the death shouldn't have happened -- it changes the whole tone of the show. and it literallly didn't bring anything new to the storylines -- death for the shock value - just why. you can do better but just don't bother.

there were many ways to give peter a send off and keep bobby alive so it would still be normal. even kill bobby but maybe in a more respectful way and give his sl actual screen time and not those five minutes. i'm just baffled at like why. i admit that i do feel a bit cheated bc i had some expectations for logical plotpoints (doesn't seem too ambitious but again my expectations my problems). main's death and not satisfying or honoring at all -- literallt mid.

and because of that all other storylines get no proper development. eddie is in a pointless circle of texas leaving and going back with no agency of his own decision. yeah chim just said you're staying and he stayed. literally what. no talks with chris no personal choices no arguements for texas or la. just going in circles with no payoff. and least he was there and he was pretty and i will read about his beautiful life on ao3.

so my main problem with the show rn is pacing, abrupt sl with no consequences or development, focus on emergencies and not people. and the thing is they can do good episodes but they're fumbing super bad and it's literally mid. when there is evidence that they can do great.

the finale was mid too -- i hate montages when they wrap up season's long sl of all every character. literally could've just written: maddiie gave birth. athena sold the house. buck moved out eddie moved in. henren adopted mara. but these are just facts and aren't we supposed to see a story here? i loved chim's speech -- it was really really good and very needed. 118 is back again together and they can survive all that and move on. would love to see him as captain. loved seeing eddie but that's a given. well at least he was there. the end.

i believed in alobby and smth b&e but accepted that maybe it wouldn't happen so was no expecations on that. but on the writing. oh man.

was going to take days off on fridays next year at work -- probably won't do that. or maybe rn i'm in my feels and have to doom a little. but rn not wanting to lose sleep bc of that.

morale of the story: don't invest yourself too much and lose yourself in these tv shows. can feel disappointed and cheated and then the reality comes back and oh i'm actually in a shitty place rn. and now you're left alone with that and that's not a nice feeling when you don't have that comfort anymore. literally go outside and touch grass. do some work. don't focus all your attention on a tv show. that should be a given but alas. positive side: i have a buzzfeed interview. i can read beautiful strories about eddie diaz. i for the first time feel inspired to translate fics/draw smth bc of my interest. i feel the need to draw the line between obsession and real life. so maybe i'll become a bit more normal.

would love to see the show flourish and actors get actual plotlines. would love to see a beloved ship go canon. would love to distance myself from that a bit more. at the end of the day it's literally not that important and just a tv show. peace out

i'll start off with explaining hiea then (it can also be written as hie but it's too similar to เฮี้ย which is a general expletive 💀). hiea comes from the chinese word (p sure it's in teochew dialect, most thai people of chinese descent are from the teochew ethnic group, myself included !) for older brother. you can call them just hiea or you can put it before the name of an older man, for example, hiea jiang (เฮียเจียง). most thai-chinese people use this word to call an older man, it can be a blood relation, an chinese older man in general, or obviously one's partner. keep in mind tho if someone looks very "obviously" chinese as an older man in thailand, they may be called hiea anyways regardless of the race of the person calling them

it's a good idea to take the last name of a real person to start off with imo cuz thai last names are a headache, even for many thai people 😭 fun fact, the last names of thai people are meant to divide by race and family (ie., different families = different last names but im pretty sure that mustve came up in your research at some point ‼️). families with very short last names tend to be like those whose ancestors have been living in thailand for very long, and the longer the last names, the less time their family line has been in thailand. so thats smth... not sure if this came up but if it didnt ‼️

anyways, i dont blame your choice for spacing out the names like that tho. theres also another format i learned in elementary school, the teachers did the names like first name (nickname in brackets) last name but thats not a good format for story writing 💀 but the clarification is pretty helpful, thank you!!

- casting was amazing!! I thought everyone did an excellent job, and while I don’t personally love all the actors, I think they played their roles excellently (faves: Esther, Cat King, Niko <333, Jenny, Tragic Mick)

- each character felt unique, even the minor ones

- the beginning was a little rough but once the plot started going it kept my interest peaked without feeling overwhelming

- Charles and Edwin’s relationship was wow so heartbreaking but oh my hod the way they met the staircase scene the way Charles foiled Edwin’s grumpiness yes yes yes

- NIKO AND EDWIN MY BELOVES

- Niko making things right with her unconditional kindness. I hate when shows have the main characters kinda lack social awareness and manners in order to push the plot along faster because it makes them seem like bad people when they aren’t. Niko giving a voice to characters who are otherwise pushed aside by the others (the sprites, Tragic Nick, Jenny, and even the Lighthouse Gift Shop owner) makes her that much more endearing :((

- I love Tragic Mick and his story and the store. What a compelling side character??

- the setting was oh my god so perfectly moody

- the Cat King forcing the characters to stay in one place when they notoriously can fast travel was so perfect to raise the stakes without making it feel forced

- I lowkey love they made Crystal a bad person because the way she was introduced made it seem like she was gonna be this perfect average joe (also what happened to that little girl ghost that originally started this all???)

Negatives :((

- okay so minor but wow I did not like the blurred edges in the show. I think it worked a lot of times to give everything that sort of dreamy look, but most times it made it hard to focus and distracting from the scene

- sometimes the writing and pacing felt…off. Like the fact that some of the opening dialogue was such Wattpad esk “hey best friend remember how we’ve been friends for 30 years? I’m the goofball to your serious branic haha brills!” And then were immediately given Edwin’s backstory with no context?? Like yes good I’m glad I know it now but it took like 5 episodes to learn Charles’? Also, the fact that we only learn Charles is abused like 10 mins before he has a breakdown with no indication earlier is crazy to me?? We even get a scene where he talks about his parents, and there was no foreshadowing to his dislike of his father??

- speaking of pacing; sometimes it felt very mechanical. Get case, case is actually something more, oh no it’s Esther, easy peasy defeat Esther she’s def done for this time, case closed, oh no she’s alive!, repeat. She just wouldn’t stay down and I love her for that lmao

- I’m trying to find solace in the fact that EVERY relationship in that show got fucked up/was fucked up but honestly the fact that anytime we were really close to having a gay relationship that was then brutally ripped away was crazy and sometimes unnecessarily brutal. I mean — Jenny finally taking a chance and opening up only for her secret admirer turning out to be a stalker and a killer?? Monty getting rejected then ripped to pieces?? The Cat King admitting he likes Edwin more than a toy and being beaten to death?? Also the bait and switch with Niko’s sprites and lowkey highkey making it seem like Crystal was in love lmao

- the way they portrayed Despair was honestly such a shameful choice for me. I would understand if they were going for a modern version to smth, but they were literally in Hell where they crafted a monster out of babydoll parts. You’re telling me Despair, creeping sadness that consumes your soul, with countless reasons and outcomes from it, and countless manefestations, was given a shlumpy cardigan??? Was given no real care beyond a human actor with minimal make up?? We literally MEET one of the, practically, Gods of Hell and that’s the best we came up with?!

- getting out of hell was surprisingly SO EASY like I think it needed /something/ else because at no point did I think they wouldn’t make it out

- DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON FUCKING SIMON?? No way in FUCK did they try to redeem to me a character who bullied Edwin to the point of sacrifing him to a demon (doesn’t matter if he didn’t think anything was going to happen, his intentions were still malicious) by giving him the biggest cop out “but I was secretly in love with you the whole time” BULL SHIT and then the fact that he got to ascend to heaven after???? ALSO THE FACT THAT EDWIN HAD TO BE CHASED BY A DOLL MONSTER AND RIPPED APART WHEN SIMON ONLY GOT PAPERCUTS ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

- WHY TF DID THEY KILL MY GIRL NIKO (I know implied she’s alive somewhat at the end but still). Also, you’re telling me they didn’t even wait until they saw Niko’s ghost and just assumed she moved on that fast without saying goodbye?? Ridiculous??

TLDR: despite some of its shortcomings, I am super excited to see what they do with Season 2, and I hope we get a more expanded universe and cast of characters!!

i've said it a billion times before: tsukasa is the comedic relief weirdguy, the devs basically will do anything with him so long as it's funny.

so starting with that valentine's day vlive in 2021. during the MC part of that he gets jealous that rui has been getting chocolates and tries to brag that he got lots of chocolates too but then immediately reveals that he got friendzoned by multiple girls. his voiceline that year is something about how he catches everyone's attention on vday and year round bc he's a star or something like that but anyway that whole interaction there seems to suggest he's straight lol.

however.

he's REALLY oblivious. played for comedy ofc but i see a lot of people interpret this as him being somewhere on the aro spectrum (probably not what the writers intended but fair instance of accidentally coding a character as smth). examples include: not understanding why Akito doesn't want to be seen at PXL alone with Toya in an Akito's initial 3* (second story), literally says "thank you" when Asahi basically confesses to him and completely misses the point (he actually did seem to nearly get this one for a second), and he doesn't understand why Rui's friends are impressed that he's friends the incredibly attractive Shizuku (Tsukasa is the only not-gay-coded male character who isn't attracted to Shizuku, probably because they're childhood friends. or if you want to view him as being aspec, then that works too). also when he mentions that he's friends with guys in his class who are cool and popular and good with women, Hibiki says that he was in a class with one of those guys in 1st year and is amazed that tsukasa is in that crowd now, emphasis on the "tsukasa's friends are good with women part". tsukasa's just confused about that because of course they talk to girls a lot they're in the same class.

also he usually rewrites a lot of romance plays to remove the romance. he rewrote R&J to just make it focused on the action (which is probably because he likes playing action heroes more than anything else), and he got rid of the romance plot in little mermaid because he didn't felt it was needed (this one is justified in-universe as they do fun shows for small children and don't really need the tragic romance, and also from production standpoint like you don't do that because fandom). so yeah that could again be read as him being aspec if you want but i don't think the writers intended it to be read that way, especially the R&J one that was purely for comedy.

all that said, this is an idol game, which generally run on the rule of thumb that every character is some flavour of queer, even if it's just for fanservice (i don't play enstars but from what i do know of it it falls a bit on that last point). anyway you can probably tell where this is going but he gets ship tease with rui sometimes. vast majority of this is from Rui's side but there are things like Oki ni Mesu mama

Tsukasa: Waiting for the "1, 2…" signal, holding hands with you is an act of courage for me

or that one part in pandemonium where he drops his persona for a brief second when he's impressed by rui's plan that was very much put there on purpose, or that Tsukasa and Airi's cheerful carnival team name from that event is "swayed by their partners (相方, aikata)" and when you consider that Shizuku and Airi are heavily implied to like each other, and have canonically been on a "date", that was also a Choice.

idk whether to count KING because justified by them being actors and the fang motif in the song... vampires kinda homoerotic it makes sense that the dance routine was that. also i'm not sure if the connect lives are even canon, especially the wxs one since tokishun broke character and the 4th wall.

Let me preface this with, I don’t think it’s Alejandro’s fault. I’ve met him before, he’s super chill! He’s a great voice actor! I think with better voice directing/writing this issue could have been completely avoided.

Spoilers/Full Opinion under the cut bc, oh boy do I have a l o t to say.

So. First things first I do agree that Aki’s new voice is waaaaay too deep. Like. I understand wanting him to sound a little more mature but he did not need to be THAT deep. Bro should not be lower than Shinji. However, I don’t think that is Alejandro’s fault.

In stressful scenes, when Aki’s voice gets a little higher, I was literally screaming in my brain. “THATS IT THATS HOW HE SHOULD SOUND!”. I think the voice director was so focused on trying to make Aki sound more mature that they were pushing Saab too far in the deep direction.

Also I don’t know how they broke up the recording sessions, but I could tell a BIG difference in the voice acting for the whole cast when the Yakushima trip happened. Like they all sounded so much better. Especially Aki and Yukari. I can’t tell if it was just me getting used to the new cast, or if it was a new session, but they did sound better. While still being deep, Aki did sound more like himself and Yukari had some of her bite back.

Aki also improved writing and voice acting wise for his second awakening and after. To quote from the live blog I did on discord “no more damnit shinji. But goddamn Alejandro put his whole soul into that.”

I think with better voice directing Alejandro could have really made Aki shine. Idk if it was just. Miscommunication or smth bc the rest of them sounded fine. But I still don’t think it’s on Saab. I know he has the range. It seems like a direction issue to me.

Now on to the writing/characterization. Whooo boy it is r o u g h.

Every. Single. Fucking. Word. Out. Of. This. Mans. Mouth. Was. Protein. They flanderized my boy sooooooo bad.

I’ve been told they wanted to make him closer to the japanese version and the arena games but like. I don’t think it was this bad????

I honestly think it was Atlus’ attempt to add more comic relief to the game. Which I understand, but I don’t think it was needed.

Part of the charm, for me at least, is how depressing Persona 3 is. Like. Of course the game is depressing as shit! It’s about death, destruction, doom, gloom, despair, ect. It’s supposed to feel so hopeless because that’s how it really hammers home it’s main point. In the last act, you, S.E.E.S., and other characters realize even though life is depressing and cruel, that there’s hope in the end. That the bonds you have forged will save you AND the world. Like you gotta hit rock bottom to get back up!

So trying to add more comedy just feels. Off. Especially choosing Aki of all people to be comic relief. Junpei has always been the comic relief TM but his character is done so fucking good that even though he’s the comic relief TM, the moments where he does get serious hit so much fucking harder.

Unfortunately with Aki, it does not work the same way. Aki is such a serious character that it’s hard to make him comic relief without ruining his character, which is exactly what fucking happened. All the serious scenes, especially with Shinji, just felt so weird bc the game sets up Aki as mr protein workout man. That when he is serious, it feels like a completely different character.

Like with his video recording that you can watch in the meeting room. What makes that funny is Aki is such a serious character that seeing him be an absolute idiot and fumble IS the humor.

I think Aki is just like. The worst choice to make comic relief. Like everyone else has funny bits and quirks, which makes them so realistic and likable! And Aki does too! But turning his whole character into work out protein work out is just a massive disservice to his character.

It did seem to taper off towards the back half of the game. Especially after Shinji’s death, and progressing through his link episodes. But all of the flanderization did hurt his character really bad. I hope Atlus stops trying to add humor where there doesn’t need to be any. Because honestly it doesn’t make shit funny, it just makes things not make sense.

(Side note, I think thats also what the other persona games suffer from too. Is Atlus being worried about the games being too dark that they add humor where there doesn’t need to be any. Which leads to weird plot things/mischaracterization)

Long story short, Do better Atlus lmao. I still love Reload. It’s literally the best remake I’ve ever seen/played. And I think all game studios should look at Reload and take notes. But it has its issues. And so does this version of Aki.

I’ve noticed that a lot of your recent posts seem to be heading the direction of “Joey Batey is our queer savior from the anti queer writers” and I feel like that’s kind of ignoring all of the other queer representation that happened this season outside of Jaskier. He was just talking specifically about Jaskier’s character. And I’m really happy that he got so much input on the character that he is very passionate about.

But the line of thinking that Joey Batey is the cause of queerness on the continent just feels… well it does a disservice to the writers who have clearly been trying to craft this inclusive version of the continent where things such as queerness and diversity feel natural. I am pretty sure Cassie Clare even gave an interview to Radiotimes in June saying that she felt so comfortable playing Philippa as queer because of how the writers had written the world. It’s also ignoring all the other queer characters this season. Whether it’s Philippa getting laid, Ciri dancing with another woman, a woman flirting with Yennefer, or the mages flirting in general, and having been implied to sleep with each other there is queerness outside of Jaskier in many different forms. Like the Continent is just gay af.

It’s confusing how people seem to think queerness wouldn’t exist in the Witcher without Joey Batey, as if there are many other forms of queerness in the show outside of Jaskier. It’s almost like people forget gay women are here too 😂 but hey that’s not unusual is it?

Hi anon. While I do agree that the focus on Jaskier as queer representation is disproportionate in the fandom in comparison to Philippa (<3) and other queer rep. I do want to. Y'know. Clear the air about my own blog.

I'm not trying to ignore other rep in the show; I focus a lot on jaskier because he's been my favorite in the series for the longest since 2020, and his characterization was/is especially relatable to me for a lot of other reasons besides his sexuality. He's been my favorite for the longest, so I do tend to focus on him more than others. It's true.

On the other hand, for example, I've only properly known Philippa since season 3 came out (we only got a brief introduction at the end of s2 & I haven't played/read enough of the games/books (respectively) to really see a lot of her). That's not to put her down to elevate jaskier/pit one against the other, though. On the contrary, she's probably my favorite character of the season so far (or at least one of them) outside the destiny family & jaskier.

And the discourse on my blog when it comes to what could've happened during production/behind the scenes mostly comes from, quite frankly, a lot of the bitter taste in my mouth in relation to some of the poorer writing choices from s2 (it was there a bit after s1 once I'd read the books but it wasn't as bad), because I still regard it with. Mixed Feelings to be honest.

(While I'm enjoying s3 much more, I'm still worried in regards to the second volume bc things feel Too Good.)

That being said, I am really happy (if not pleasantly surprised) to see that the show treats queerness really well! I'm happy that a franchise that's meant so much to me for the past few years is giving good rep. It's just that when I hear things like "oh the actor did revise it with the writers" in regards to jaskier in s3 (when iirc that's not the first time one of the actors has had to work with production to revise smth), my, admittedly, Nosy And Speculative Self will naturally go "...okay so how bad was it before? 😟👀" (bc this is still. y'know. the show that pulled the entire Eskel Thing)

like it didnt have to be like this :( they couldve taken their time with this. bc, ppl really liked kagepro back then... its hard to state just how immensely popular kagepro was during its peak, in like 2012-2014. it wasnt super mainstream popular like aot or anything, but it was the most popular niche thing at the time. if you knew vocaloid, then you knew of kagerou project. like people take mca for granted nowadays, but do you understand just how significant it is that an extremely indie novel music project thing was popular enough to receive an anime? and also, how jin was one of the earliest producers to make vocaloid songs featuring characters that werent the vocaloid themselves, and how he got so much hate for it at first. and did you know headphone actor was like, a demo song for IA? it was made with IA before IA was publicly released, yet managed to go viral. it was the first IA song to get a million+ views, even before IA was released. and also how ayano's theory of happiness mv holds the record for one of the fastest video to hit a million views on nnd, in less than 5 hours or smth...

like.. kagepro was Big. Bigggg. people loved this story, and they loved these characters. it was taking pixiv and nnd over by storm... like you had to be there to understand just how much people loved novel 5. bc novel 5 was released during kgpr's peak, during Mekakucity Records era, and before the anime. people were losing their minds over the plot revelations tying everything together, and it was the best selling light novel for that month too i think... kano shuuya fanart was everywhereeee. this is how much people liked kagerou project. but this buzz and popularity coincided with the releases of music videos and the anime. and instead of spacing out the production of those two medias, they were all rushed out in such a short amount of time 😞 its just very sad to me, bc you can tell just how passionate jin and sidu and all the other ppl who worked on it were about this project. jin really had a story he wanted to write, and it was a story that many, many people wanted to read about. but so many people dont pay attention to it anymore, or understand it (and to no fault of their own, with how convoluted kgpr had to become to fit in everything), even though it isnt completed... and the mekakucity reload anime is in copyright limbo. its all very sad 😞😞😞😞

Looks like I will have to polish that one doc I was writing about my disappointment for the inclusion of the Psych's Finale Live post-show NBC Universal thought would be GREAT to include in the package of the last season of the show back in 2014 to be aired in LATAM (also included in streaming sites like Prime Video and Netflix?)

It blows my mind how the LATAM Spanish dub has so many hits in the start (as far as I remember, since I watched S1-S4 PLENTY of times), YET, in S6 something happened that the quality of the translation (and lack of a more bigger dub cast, I fucking guess??) is ALL OVER THE PLACE. And I'm not saying that I trust the series' LATAM Spanish subs from Netflix (nor did I trust the ones in Prime Video), but? what the hell happened there??? The dub dialogue is all over the place with translation choices that SHOULD have been checked a couple of times before recording the audio.

("Boot Camp" is LITERALLY translated as "Campamento de Botas", when it should have been "campamento de entrenamiento", at LEAST; "transplant" was SOMEHOW? translated as "transparente" instead of "transplante"? Lavender was translated as "Lavandera"??? don't get me started with the constant pop culture references... names of IRL actors... etc.)

I have been working a whole theory of what may have happened, but frankly? What did NOT happen here?

Since I was actually watching S6 as it aired here in 2012, I cooould have mentioned smth about it (either here or in Twitter), but man...

(I also didn't like the change of Juliet's dub actress, at least Lassiter's was tolerable and it grew on me)

It's a shame I am not watching it in English, though. A couple of S6 eps (and S7 and S8) have amazing performances from the cast that, although the dub actors seemed to have given their best... I MEAN, I MEAN. And, I know it's the nostalgia kicking (and since I'm watching it with my mom, she doesn't feel an attachment to the actors' original voices, and she doesn't understand English too well by ear...), but... *shrugs* it isn't too perfect in the last three seasons. I feel it's very much a rushed job due to wherever liminal place was TV cable in 2012 (due to the rise of Netflix and streaming and ppl pirating) in offering faster releases prioritizing LATAM Spanish dubs when they originally aired many of these subbed.

(MAN, I remember I watched the Musical eps in English, TWICE, around christmas? 2013?... it looks they were dubbed! And I'm not really way curious to check if they dubbed the songs :))) )

SIGH. I wish I had the money to have given the complete DVD boxset? a chance back in 2014... I don't even know how is the market of (retro) DVDs right now because streaming platforms are a mess and physical media is, basically the way to enjoy these with restrictions of fears of series leaving the platform and see (like a russian roulette) where it falls next. Or not. AGAIN. I JUST WANT TO OWN THIS SERIES. s1ep22 and ep23 ladybug and cat noir & stoneheart, origins pt1 and 2

what a choice for netflix/the u.s. to release these episodes in the middle of the season. but what an even wilder choice for the "as close to canon from the word of god" to release these episodes three episodes away from the end of the first season. from the u.s. standpoint i can kinda understand since the seasons are always broken into two parts, and since a lot of 24 episode anime is often broken into two parts, it seems pretty normal. but three episodes away from the end of the season? why not just at the end of the first season???

i don't have much here to say other than the fact that these poor voice actors have to talk as two times the speed just to say their long-ass lines in the incredibly short amount of time they're given to say them. which is why the episodes feel so sped up. like, these actually felt okayish pacing wise. but whenever they had to say like 3 sentences in 30 seconds, i winced.

smth smth the whole hawkmoth premise/set-up doesn't really make sense to me. i wish i could put my finger on it bc then i could properly describe it and critique it. but the vibes are just off man. maybe it'll make more sense as i learn more about the miraculous and all the loose threads these two episodes set up and never answer (i assume. i'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but since it stopped airing at s5 and i got no inclination we actually got any answers from what i did see after i stopped watching, i'm not hopeful).

i will say tho, chloe as a character hits my every last nerve. and also demonstrates once again the issue with the writers treating the show like it's serialized but writing it like it's episodic. chloe never learns anything and every time the episode is reset, she's just as bratty, mean, and racist as she was in the past. and yknow, it does get old after a while. like there's nothing wrong with having her character archetype in a show about teens in high school, but i do wish the writers would like. maybe at least show the kids watching that what she's doing is bad, at the very least. that her racism and bullying is only deserving of admonishment. or they're going to take away the wrong message.

the fact that she gets a miraculous for it? she's rewarded for her vile behavior? insane.

i don't rly have full context so idk that i can give a complete opinion based on conjecture. the significance behind having teo and sai inhabit the northern air temple was about sharing culture and more than just idk... sai giving weapons to the fire nation to protect their livelihood. like that is a part of it, sure, but by removing the setting, it's taking away a lot of nuance the whole situation had.

jet and co being behind the bombs makes sense but idk in what context. if they're tailing fire nation spies outside (outside???? or does omashu having a woodsy side to it where they've set up camp and i just missed it?) the city to eliminate them, then why also bomb them inside the city? that part to me still seems like indiscriminate attacks meant to incite the army to fight. but i will hold back bc i dont wanna give these writers credit if thats not the case and its smth stupid instead rhgowhgqeg

speaking of stupid. can we live in an era (as someone who knows very little about showrunning) where actors voice if something pertaining to their character is bad or doesn't make sense. didn't emilia clarke wander around london or whatever in absolute turmoil bc she hated the ending for her character in game of thrones but in the end she still went thru w it bc what else could she do. i wanna live in a world where an actor reads a script or tries to act smth out and stops and goes no. no this is stupid i don't like this he would not say that. and it like, have weight and significance?? like if bad writing exists, instead of letting it slide, can ppl in the making of the show voice their opinions? if smth is bad then it's bad.

this is all bc of the senseless iroh pushing zuko to the ground and drawing attn to himself scene at the end of e3. like why. the gate was right there. no one was checking faces. cover zuko's head again and run out in the crowd. do anything aside from the needless sacrifice like what was the point, whyyyyyy, i don't understand.

(this was an interesting mashup episode but tbh all i was thinking thru watching it was 'wow! ppl who get into atla thru the netflix adaptation r gonna be so confused when they watch the cartoon and learn jet and teo are introduced at different points of the season from each other and omashu. completely different points. omashu is first half, jet is middle, teo and sai are end. not a bad thing it was just jarring to think abt.)

idk i'll probably go in depth next episode when everything hopefully gets explained better but. maybe bc they're making atla into a drama instead of the action/adventure it was originally, they feel like everything has to be "dramatized" and it's sucking the soul out of the show? the comedy isn't there really, which is a shame. atla's comedy is like the golden standard of cartoon kids-rated comedy. i would've loved to see them get into omashu by disguising aang and katara running with the absurd surname and that whole element, instead of sneaking in with jet with what tries to be humor maybe but falls short of such. this show needs to be funnier to be successful in my eyes.

also i know i said this last time but i wanna say it again re: the change in genre. taking this show from a global journey adventure serial and trying to make it a drama is removing a lot of what made atla work so well. there was so much planning and nuance in everything, and it worked bc of the genre it fit into. trying to slice and dice certain elements of a season to fit a not even 8 hr runtime isn't great to begin with, but like. you can make the show more adult-oriented without changing what it is at its core, y'know?

now that there's definitely gonna be a good chunk of next episode also set in omashu, i rly hope there's some nod to haru and that it's not smth they cut entirely. tbh, i said everything connects throughout atla's three seasons, and this rly makes me wonder if they get a s2, what they're planning on doing then. i thought before this came out that if they were gonna cut anything, that i actually didn't care for jet's episode that much, but if you cut out jet, then you get rid of one of the more iconic scenes of s2, if not the whole show, where he's being brainwashed by the dai li. everything connects. the friends you make along the way come back to lend their assistance. i really hope the rest of what they'll do with omashu is decent and not wasted time.
