I painted very round birbs

Taking a scientific illustration course that’s aimed more at scientists than illustrators, so we’re starting out basic with tonal media. Y’all. I can’t tell you the last time I used traditional tonal media. 

This is a male House Sparrow (Passer domesticus). The House Sparrow is an introduced speicies in North America. It was introduced in Brooklyn, New York in 1851 and spread to the Rockies. Two more introductions in the 1870s spread the bird on the west coast. It’s now found everywhere in North America except for Alaska and far northern Canada

Say hello to this sweet lil nonbinary birdie! So I saw a grey wagtail and I thought, since it’s pride month, what if wagtail but nonbeanie? I’m honestly so proud of this sweet little feathered friend, repping enby pride with their lovely plumage. This was so fun to paint, it makes me want to paint more birbs 💛🤍💜🖤

And the Liberi is able to make their deft dip dodging dash without any hiccups in their plan. Not that the Aegir would've been inclined to stop or otherwise impede them.

The Pūteketeke: New Zealand's Bird of the Century.

The votes are in, and after two bruising weeks of voting in New Zealand's Bird of the Century, we have a new champion. It carries its young on its back, which is very cute. It enjoys grunting, growling, and barking, as one does. It possesses an elaborate set of mating rituals, including "the weed dance" and "the ghostly penguin," which is great. It has a colorful mullet—j'adore le style. It has a propensity for vomiting. It is, in other words, a worthy champion. Its name is the Australasian crested grebe, otherwise known as the pūteketeke, and we think you're gonna get on just *great*.
