Guess who went to WoodHill Mansion/Museum/Estate, had a mental breakdown, and then went to the DC Smithsonian Zoo-

It’s very beautiful; the inside of the mansion has a lot of French & Russian artifacts, curtesy of the original (now dead) owner being a collector, and the outside is a a wide range of gardens.

Not my first time, so its not like I took too many pictures; Was mostly studying the sea lions + seals, and then a bit of reptiles and fish.

The sea lions are just dogs, you can't change my mind lol.

So you know how it kind of kept pressing the purple key when it didn’t work? Is it like a kid that is confused that it’s not making sound or do you think that it understands that the toy is broken? Like do primates understand the concept of things not working anymore because they’re broken, or do they just think it’s not working anymore who knows why?

I know we probably will never know for sure I just thought it was interesting. Thanks for all the amazing videos!

Hmm, I think the concept of 'broken' requires an understanding of what the object is meant to do. The xylophone is meant to make noise and all keys do make a different noise, with the purple making a noise that is most different. I think, based on the way they hit the purple key harder and the other orang tries to press the purple key, they seem to notice it is different from the others.

We will never be able to access the secrets of an orangutan's mind so who's to say what they think!

I posted a screen shot of an absurd internship position at the smithsonian zoo located in DC that advertized:

-unpaid

-no housing provided

-no free parking

-30-40hrs/week for 3 months

And I had an obscene amount of french peeps message me asking if that was actually legal. In France, an internship that lasts more than 30 days has to be a paid position. I had to tell them that, unfortunately, yes that was very much legal and extremely common across the US. And that, most if not all zoo internships are usually as demanding and are unpaid. They had no words. This internship is basically paying for work.

I don't know what needs to be done but the wildlife field really needs to put these sorts of position behind. Only rich people can apply to these and gain the experience, leaving everybody else struggling to find a way to gain experience.

Today, the Smithsonian announced the National Zoo and the Udvar-Hazy Center will reopen to the public on Friday, July 24. Visitors will be required to obtain a free, timed-entry pass, which can be reserved starting today at si.edu/tickets or by calling 1-800-514-3849, ext. 1.

The Zoo will be open from 8 AM to 4 PM daily, and the Udvar-Hazy Center will be open from 10 AM to 5:30 PM daily. To…
