āNo!ā Wind screams, kicking out. His feet hit only air.
āNo! You canāt!ā
āBe quiet, brat.ā
A slap comes stinging across his face. His head snaps sideways. Tears smart in his eyes.
The large hands are on him again before he can fully recover, pulling a gag tight between his lips.
āWeāll get that captain yet. And youāre how weāre gonna lure him in, whether you like it or not.ā

Gosh yeah, Iāve barely been obsessing over the odyssey but I too am sick on how some people characterize Odysseus. I donāt think I could consume any Odyssey media that isnāt Epic the musical cuz I feel like because Odysseus is a super masculine dude, theyāll give him toxic masculinity traits and make him a cheater. Which is entirely false! Heās a kind and caring man who loves his wife and son more than anything! Sure heās a little violent but only because he HAS to be. He HAS to do things in order to survive and to protect those he cares about!
even if itās their own interpretation, I feel like characterizing Odysseus as a cheater in any way shape or form is EXTREMELY disrespectful to male SA survivors. Thatās a more off topic thought tho (wonāt talk about that anymore I just wanna throw it out there)
EXACTLY
I completely agree!!! Itās this weird thing thatās always driven me nuts where masculinity is equated with toxic masculinity just as often as femininity is equated with weakness. As if a manly dude canāt be a family man whoās both soft-hearted and fiercely protective. Which like WHAT?? Itās yet another infuriating stereotype. And it plays into the whole disrespect to male SA victims thing. Him being a victim doesnāt make him any less of a man per se. It freaking makes him HUMAN.
I donāt get the whole thing with the maids and suitors either. People do realize that they betrayed Penelope and plotted to kill Telemachus right?? They do realize that by completely victimizing the maids they take away the agency they did possess, however little? Iām not saying itās cut and dry or thatās itās ok to slaughter a bunch of people (though donāt western heroes do that ALL THE TIME and donāt get slack for it??) or that the maids had this wonderful situation where full consent was given. But come on. Youāre gonna villainize the dude whose home they invaded and ransacked and whose family they endangered?
And I feel like with Ody especially he gets characterized by his mistakes (real and contrived). People see him as the guy who got all his men killed by telling the cyclops his name (an understandable mistake because the worst of us comes out under duress. Of course he displayed pride and hubris! He was exhausted and sorrowful and infuriated!). They see him as the guy who ācheatedā on Penelope with Circe and Calypso. And they forget the source material. Homer was over there making a character to rival the vast majority of those we have today, a sensitive, traumatized, flawed man who endured SO MUCH to return to his beloved family. A man who, unlike all of his fellow warriors, identified himself as the Father of Telemachus because Penelope and Telemachus are his LIFE. He wrote this awesome character, even gave him a character arc in the Odyssey, and he gets reduced to a cocky cheater.
#anyway i digress#sorry for the rant#this kinda thing just drives me insane#itās actually one of the reasons I started reading the odyssey again#I saw the comments and posts bashing odysseus#and wanted to find out for myself if he was as bad as they said#glad that I did#trin answers#smilesrobotlover my beloved#the odyssey#tw sa mention

Hi, Iām here to annoy you again.
But I listened to some snippets from the thunder saga which is SUPER exciting except the fact that Eurylochus, who sees Odysseus as a brother, is gonna start throwing hands with him

Youāre not annoying me AT ALL, my friend. Iām enjoying freaking out over EPIC and the Odyssey with you so much fr! Iāve srsly been about to burst with this brainrot XD
But IKR?? THE PAIN ššš
I know he mentions in the snippet of Mutiny how he disliked Odyās approach to Scylla but I wonder if his actions are also the build up from whatever was bothering him during the Puppeteer.
Also he was weirdly silent during the Underworld saga which is honestly scary to me cause up until now heās been at Odyās side like constantly. And that was such a vulnerable and painful moment for Ody so WHERE WAS HE? Just watching from the sidelines or something???
It makes me think he blames Ody for all their losses š Which him doxxing himself did lead to Poseidonās outrage but can he be blamed for everything that happened? Iām extremely biased cause I love Odysseus but not imo
#*sobs*#WHY MUST THEY FIGHT#especially now after Odysseus basically vowed to do whatever was necessary#to get them all home#and isnāt that what Eurylochus wanted this entire time???#for him to set aside his guilt and do whatever it took?#trin answers#smilesrobotlover my beloved

Iām just imagining possibly after Ody fought the boar, and he returns to Ithaca with a bandaged leg, and Polites is like āoh no, friend! Let me help you!ā And then Penelope shows up to help Ody as well and Polites is like āš actually Iām tried, why donāt YOU help him Penelopeā like the wing man he is
Alskskdjsldjskdb
Polites, the ultimate OdyPen shipper
#I love the idea of him helping Ody and Penelope get together#like Ody venting to him about not feeling good enough for her#or gushing about how beautiful and smart and amazing she is#and Polites is like#you know what Iām taking matters into my own hands#trin answers#smilesrobotlover my beloved#ā¦dang it I wanna write a fic now#Iām imagining Ody all flustered and blushy as Penelope stitched him up#and Polites is behind her giving him thumbs up#epic the musical#the odyssey

Hi Iām here to annoy you again :)
I keep thinking about the line āeverythingās changed since Politesā and it has me unwell. Clearly Polites was an anchor for everyone. He was positive, kind, and gave everyone hope because he had so much. His death was the first crack in the crew š
augh that line KILLS ME
YOUāRE SO RIGHT. He really was the glue that held them together. He was the one who reminded Ody to allow himself to keep his soft heart, and reminded Eury to be optimistic rather than just rigidly pragmatic. But with him gone their natural leans toward distrust and doubt, anger and fear erupted. They needed him š
#and the saddest thing is that#the very thing that was great about him#that kept their group together#his kindness#led to his death#he gave the lotus eaterās the benefit of the doubt#encouraged Ody to do the same#and they were led to the cyclopsā cave#T-T#trin answers#smilesrobotlover my beloved#and you never bother me my friend#I love chatting with you!!

Iām thinking about how Ody tried to hug his mom three times but he couldnāt and I Thinkin about the pain he had to endure witnessing that. PLUS Agamemnon!!! šš that guyā¦
AUGH YESSSS
That scene KILLS me. I literally start to cry when I read it.
Ohhh yeah Agamemnon. Not only can I hardly help kinda feeling bad for him (despite not really liking him alsjdkdbdkdn) but the way that his tale is like a test of Odyās faith in Penelope and her ability to withstand the threats that assail her with him gone hits hard. Like the dude is trying his hardest to get home and then thereās this tale out of left field, this story of a homecoming going terribly wrong.
Everything is foreboding in the Underworld, everyone is telling him the ways he can and will fail to get home or fail to get his family back but he keeps going anyway because he has hope still that he can save his men from their foolishness, that he can have a happy ending even when his companions are telling him thatās a fantasy.
And maybe thereās a bit of pride there too, thinking he can change fate, but he wonāt give up, he never gives up because his family is waiting for him, his men are relying on him, and he will do everything he can to reach home for their sakes, for his, for Penelopeās and Telemachusā

I need to know if Telemachus sneezed randomly in your version cuz he sneezed out of nowhere in mine and it was so funny: and also that random bald joke was genuinely the funniest thing Iāve ever read. Donāt even know if it was a bald joke but if it was it was the sickest burn Iāve ever read
YES YES HE DID

I burst out laughing at that part ALDJSKDJDKDN
And IKR?? I think mine literally had a footnote explaining that it was a bald joke XDXD
Also the part where they go to chuck yet ANOTHER stool at Odysseus and it hits a random servant and everyoneās just like āwelp rip that guyā which is sad but also like what is happening rn??? WHY IS EVERYTHING SO CHAOTIC?? ALDJDKDJDKDN
The RANGE this story has is unreal
#also also#loved eumaeusā sarcasm#I donāt remember which part it was in#but he basically smarted back at Ody#and I love him for it#heās so snarky fr#trin answers#smilesrobotlover my beloved#the odyssey

Reading the Iliad graphic novel (same artist as the one for the odyssey) and the part with hector and his wife and son has me weak heās so gentle and sweet with them šš
AUGH IKR? šš I LOVE HECTOR SO MUCH (almost as much as I love Ody. I swear they wouldāve been friends if they werenāt on opposite sides of the war.)
