“...You look sad. Why are you looking sad and hanging around by my bedroom?” Niles cautiously emerged from his room, shutting the door behind him and leaning back against it. “Is something up? Why do you think I can help?”

@small-illusionist liked for a starter with CORRIN
“Heh... ehehehee...” Corrin laughed nervously and uncontrollably as she pulled her cape around herself for comfort. “Zolaaaaa... How much did you see, exactly?”

@small-illusionist has forseeth a starter ;;
Her sandaled feet settled into a frantic rhythm as she hurries to and fro through Askr’s winding streets, watchful for a familiar glimpse of a long jester hat amongst the crowds. Gods, where in Naga’s name was Zola? While it was true the summoner never forbade any hero from wandering AROUND during their free time, it still made Say’ri anxious enough to think misfortune may have befallen the cowardly mage somewhere out there. Sure enough, she spots Zola just further on to her left and breathes out a soft sigh filled with relief, before making her way over.
“ Sir Zola! There you are. Pray, let me accompany you. We shan’t have you getting lost. ” Upon settling behind him, she gently grasps his shoulder to further emphasize her point.

Zola as he might (unofficially) appear in Fire Emblem Heroes.
Was talking with @small-illusionist about Zola as a Grand Hero Battle unit in a Heroes verse, and so it got me thinking about his actual viability... and this build came to mind~.

[text to: weird guy #3]: No, I’m not drunk. Or high. Or anything.
[text to: weird guy #3]: Why is it that people think I’m on something whenever I’m trying to be genuine?
Takumi took a moment to pause between his messages, glaring at the phone screen. Sure, Zola was one of the last people he wanted to talk to about this, but he was the only one up at this hour. Sighing and relaxing his expression, he began typing out the rest of what he had to say.
[text to: weird guy #3]: If you really do feel the same way, though, I guess we have more in common than I thought.
And that’s saying something, he wanted to add, but decided not to.

“...death comes for us all, in the end...”
Iago didn’t think Zola was looking for poetry. But comfort was something Iago was not used to giving... rather, he was used to not caring enough to bother trying.
“Don’t blame yourself for the fragility of human existence. We’re all little more than mayflies at the root of it.”

@small-illusionist
In the busy square outside of Castle Shirasagi, an oddly costumed wizard stood performing for a group of small children.
“Keep your eye on the handkerchief!” He waved the handkerchief in question in front of the children, then stuffed it into his hand until there was nothing showing. He held his fist up to his mouth and blew, and rather than the handkerchief appearing, suddenly he was holding a bouquet of flowers!
The children cheered, and some of their parents dropped a few stray coins into his clay collection bowl while clapping politely. He offered flowers to each of the children as their parents ushered them away; when the last one left, he sighed and sat on the edge of a low wall, producing another handkerchief from inside his cloak and dabbing at his forehead.

“This wasn’t your fault.”
“The only person at fault here is King Garon.” And at that thought, Corrin’s blood began to boil. Such mindless destruction... he was truly a monster. “But I’m not innocent, either. I’m this army’s tactician... I should have expected he would send so many soldiers...”
Yes, King Garon might have been the one with blood on his hands, but she was the one who had put the poorly-equipped army in his way...
“Regardless, we have to go.” She didn’t want to leave the poor soldiers, but... if they lingered long enough to bury the bodies, the Nohrian army would surely capture them.

“I-If anyone break your heart... I’ll break their neck.” (for Corrin)
platonic valentine’s day starters
“Zola... that’s a little extreme...” Corrin blinked at him, caught off guard by such a sudden declaration.
Even though it was kind of a worrying thing to say... Corrin couldn’t help but feel flattered. (And besides, it wasn’t like Jakob wouldn’t say something similar!)
“...thank you, Zola. I hope I never have to take you up on that, but it’s very sweet of you to say.”

Shield, for Iago.
Send “Shield” for my muse’s reaction to yours placing themselves between my muse and danger.
“...Zola?”
He would later deny the complete and absolute puzzlement in his voice. He would also deny having any level of concern for the other dark mage...
“What are you doing, you FOOL?!” As though putting himself between Iago and an assassin’s projectile was some terrible taboo!

“The Lady Camilla is, ah... Interesting.” Niles was almost too scared of invoking her wrath to really talk to her much. So much as imply that he might find any one of her siblings attractive, and his head would be on a pike within the hour.
“She’s certainly beautiful. I daren’t tell you what I’d let her do to me if I got the chance. But I’m not quite sure she considers me a friend.”
outlawarcher:
“Just because I would sleep with a lot of people doesn’t mean that I will. Most of them probably don’t like me much. And there’s an equally long list of men that I’d sleep with.” Niles shrugged.
“Eh… The list is very short. So short, in fact, that there aren’t any names on it.” Really, Niles would only consider two people to be true friends, and they were Leo and Odin. Neither of whom were female.
“Even Lady Camilla?”
It was the first name that came to his mind, she was incredibly fierce and beautiful, and patient. Well, not when the subject was family.

💟 to Iago :3c
send "💟" for my muse's reaction to your muse suddenly wrapping mine in a blanket with no explanation
Iago shifted in his half-sleep as he felt something being laid over him. And then he realized that something being laid over him meant someone was there with him, and he was suddenly very awake and reaching for his tome.
“...Zola?” It was lucky for the other mage that he realized who it was so quickly. Very few people were allowed in his study, particularly without a direct invitation.
Now that he was certain it wasn’t someone trying to kill him, Iago yawned and pulled the blanket around himself. Krakenburg could get rather drafty, after all.
“Can I help you?” He’d slept long enough; time to get back to work.

“And we’ll keep going for another two hours if you can’t get this.” Iago slapped the tome shut and fixed Zola with a stern glare. “If you want to improve, it will take a lot more than two hours, Zola.”

“I... I can’t, I--” Corrin’s words cut off with a sob. It was all she could do to keep herself on her feet, rather than collapsing like she wanted to do. She felt pathetic for not being able to pull herself together and move on like Zola was doing... but even more pathetic for not being able to save everyone in the first place.
It wasn’t just this death. It was all of the deaths. She had spent most of her life isolated from the world, isolated from the harsh truths, and now... now she couldn’t ignore the death that seemed to follow her everywhere...
