My Side Garden Over 4 Years
In 2019 the last of the 15 Ash Trees adjacent to my mother's home were taken out and I had decided to garden now that I had access to a yard again. The soil here is very rocky, prior to being constructed the side of this yard was a forest on the property line of a farm, that's why our ash were massive before they succumb to the borer.
The first year I planted some Perennials from a box-store and threw a random 'wildflower' seed mix in and unsurprisingly most of them died (although sweet-williams and cornflower persist which is fine with me)
The next year a whole bunch of annual cosmos and Zinnia took over but the only surviving perennials were native plants, after that I got more into native plants and got some native seeds from an adjacent field, Prairie Moon, and the forest that I spread. Then I got some native perennials from a local grower or took some divisions from my aunt (and grew some marigolds to keep the deer away).
The next year everything established and I did a layer of mulch over leaf litter to improve the soil a little, I discovered that in the coming drought this retained a decent amount of moisture for my young plants, I also noticed the diversity of insects and bird life that these plants brought. Our Yard was the only one with monarch caterpillars, constantly churning with butterflies, I noticed all new stingless bee species I'd never seen before, so many fascinating native fauna that never had decent habitat prior to this. I convinced the rest of my family to change their ways, less lawn, no pesticides at all, and less aggressive maintenance (I still weed but not as much because the perennials block out a lot of new growth). I noticed something else, fireflies I had grown up seeing were disappearing around the neighborhood, but not in this yard, because we had provided that proper leaf layer habitat for these fireflies, they were extremely abundant in our patch of garden. all the other neighbors who poison their gardens and heavily maintain lawns had nothing lighting up around them.
I'm studying in Landscape Architecture, work in architecture currently, my gardens look horrible because to me they are an opportunity to learn how plants grow. This year I made sure to keep leaf layer untouched in the hopes I could keep the fireflies, the garden looks really full even with little rain this may! it doesn't look perfect but the garden is more for ecosystem value (albeit rather small but to expand upon existing field nearby).
I try to plant things that I've seen growing wild locally, local natives in my garden as seen above include: Joe Pye Weed, Blueberry bush (highbush), Common Milkweed, Swamp Rose Milkweed, Butterfly Weed (ascelpias tuberosa), Columbines, White Snakeroot, spicebush, elderberry (this one is small in this garden), wild bergamot, various aster species, anise hyssop, and a tulip poplar sapling :)
Natives that are within this ecological region but not common to my area: blazing star, prairie blazing star, False Indigo, Blue flag Iris, Black eye'd Susan's, purple coneflower, obedient plant, Prairie dropseed, palm sedge, various sunflower species, bee balm, st. John's wort, whorled milkweed, various azaeleas, tickseed, eastern bluestar, Blue lobelia, and a persimmon tree
Nonnatives that do well and don't compete: English lavender, sweet Williams, 'Shasta' daisies, rocket larkspur, astilbes, cosmos (self seeding), tea rose, various herbs and annuals I throw in there like sunflowers, corn, amaranth.

01 June 2023 (backdated) (2 of 2)
That’s not trash in the first shot, that’s me covering up bits of grass poking through the newspapers. So much new planting space this fall!
Back bed: the rose seems just about done with blooming, which seems a change from last year. The red yarrow is getting close to blooming (in front of oak barrel). You can’t see them, but the nasturtiums in the barrel have their first buds too.
Tumblr media
Flower buds on the honeysuckle!
Tumblr media
Main bed, right side.
Not much movement here. The lavender is about to bloom on the right. No cosmos yet from the seeds I scattered in the big open area in the middle.
Tumblr media
Main bed - left side
One of the hollyhock’s leaves has turned yellow (against the fence in the back). I’m hoping for the best. The asters are bushing out after their haircut. The rue in front of them has been blooming away (yellow flowers). Behind the aster is the meadowsweet finally open (white-pink flowers). All along the front you can see the poppies and the euphorbia coming up.
The small dark red plant is the cardinal flower (later summer bloom). The plant with red stems next to the purple spike speedwell is the gaura about to bloom.

Poppy!

And along the very front, the honeywort has sprouted!

My beloved celestial night floribunda rose bush. Surrounding it are many ranunculus and dahlia bulbs.
Milkweed is sprouting up, and next to it are several types of echinacea.
The kaleidoscope buddleia isn't much to look at yet, but that's because its new leaves are still very small in relation to its overall size.
The spirea that's been at my side since I first started my garden, I can always count on it to come back with aplomb.
My grape hyacinths are already done for, but behind that you can see my baptisia, lupine, and hydrangea.
A row of salvia and veronica, and at the end is my mum and aster.
The back fence, where I have several things planted but the most relevant here are two pugster amethyst buddleia, several siberian iris, some agapanthus, and you can see some hosta in the back corner and an invasive japanese knotweed forcing its way through my fence.
Also, in front of the white picket fence is a bleeding heart which I took a close-up of.
...as well as a close-up of the pugster that gets more sun.
Outside of my garden in the common area of the yard, I was allowed to plant hidcote lavender and monarda which is now returning.

'Under the blood stained sky'
Tumblr media
A while passed and Andy found himself outside on one of the lower balconies overlooking the garden. He'd been fitted with a fancy looking suit that was actually quite snug; it was a black tux with the same coloured bowtie and some gray trousers. And despite it not being out in the open anymore, Andy still kept his pendant tucked away safely under his shirt. That was one thing he was determined to not take off.
On the other side of things, even Aster had been fitted with some new clothes. The younger teen now wore a long dark blue dress with long sleeves and frilly wrists. She didn't seem too happy about being in a dress and the whole ordeal so as soon as the fitting were done, Aster stomped off into the garden.
Ever since they'd left the docks and especially since they arrived at the mansion, Aster had been a stick in the mud. She'd been eyeing everything around them, especially Kiro; even glaring at him. Andy didn't get what she kept glaring at the red eyed teen. Kiro was kind, welcoming and even a bit handsome if Andy did say so himself. Maybe after the party Andy could stay here for a bit and hang out with Kiro some more. Aster could go home and inform Alex of his whereabouts,
Staring out at the garden, the white haired teen couldn't help but admire the beauty in it; the silver leaves on the bushes, the ash gray dirt coating the ground. It was all so breathtaking. Footsteps sounded behind him and Andy looked over his shoulder to see Kiro walking towards him with a big smile. He was still in his Hawaiian shirt surprisingly.
"Hey" he greeted the black haired teen. Kiro smirked and leaned on the balcony next to Andy.
"Why are you still wearing that? Didn't your mother say we needed to be dressed up for the party?"
Kiro rolled his eyes in annoyance "My parents have always been trying to get me to be more 'formal' and 'proper'. What they try to get me to wear is always so boring and dull and they don't like what I enjoy to wear"
"If it's any consolation, I think you have good taste" Andy commented.
The red eyed teen looked over at him with a warm smile "Thanks, you've not bad taste yourself"
Andy couldn't help but awkwardly laugh.
"Did you have any plans before this?" Kiro asked.
Andy shrugged "Not much. Me, my sister and our friends were just planning a small get together. Just a simple sleepover"
"Won't it be a bit late for a sleepover when you get back?"
Andy shrugged, staring back out over the garden."I guess so. We can always have one another time"
His gaze lifted upwards towards the moon, the usual silver rock now glimmering a blood red.
"I see the moon's caught your eye. A beautiful one tonight isn't it?" Kiro inquired. Andy gave a wordless nod.
"It's a special one tonight. It's what's called a celestial blood moon; only known to appear every five thousand years" Kiro proudly stated, puffing his chest out.
"You interested in this kind of thing then?" Andy inquired.
Kiro nodded "Somewhat. Today's my birthday so having something this special happen on my special day is an honour"
"Oh it's your birthday? Happy birthday"
The black haired teen blushed and looked away "Thanks. I look forward to this day every year. It's more than just a birthday; it's the day I can get to leave this place and see the world"
Andy couldn't help but feel shocked "You only leave your home once a year? Why?"
The question seemed to dampen Kiro's mood, the red eyed teen trying to shrink in on himself. "You see, my family is quite protective of me. They found me as a foundling on a stormy night fifteen years ago. Apparently I was quite weak and sick, barely clinging onto life"
Kiro stared up at the blood stained moon "They nursed me back to health and have kept me close ever since; They're worried I'll get sick again if I go away too long. I managed to get them to agree to let me out on my birthday every year but it doesn't feel like enough"
Andy shuffled closer, touching his shoulder to Kiro's.
"You ever done anything fun on the mainland?" he questioned.
The red eyed teen shrugged "I explored the city but what I really want to do is hang out with people; have friends. But anytime I try to make friends it doesn't work out; People just avoid me"
Andy placed a hand over Kiro's, causing the black haired teen to stare up at him. "I didn't"
Kiro's face flushed red and he gave Andy a soft smile "I appreciate that"
Andy leaned his red against Kiro's shoulder, both of them staring out at the starlight. Moments later, one of the servants appeared behind the two boys and cleared their throat. This caused Andy and Kiro to turn around and stare at him.
"The festivities are about to begin. Madam Izora requests you both in the main dining hall straight away"
Kiro nodded in understanding "Thank you Johnathon. Would you be able to reach Aster for us? She's somewhere in the garden"
Johnathon nodded and disappeared from view.
Kiro reached out his arm "Shall we make our way kind sir?"
Andy hook his arm in Kiro's "I think we shall" You can find the rest of the story here : A Different Flavour of Fang

set during the Windblume festival!
905 words, no warnings
first posted on ao3
Tumblr media
Dawn arrived in Mondstadt, sprinkling its rays of sunlight across your face. The light basked your room with a glow, rousing you from sleep. You got up, left your comfy bed and opened the bedroom window. You looked down, eyeing the fresh windwheel asters that adorned the city bushes. Early risers strolled along the decorated streets as dandelion puffs drifted through the crisp air.
The Windblume Festival was just beginning. During this time of love and freedom, you thought of Diluc. The two of you knew that what you had was love. When he smiled, you knew that he deeply trusted you. When you held him and he leaned into you, it showed that you really cared about each other. Being with Diluc made you feel so cozy. He was like warm sunshine, the kind that makes you warm and joyful.
Neither of you had a particular name for your relationship, but that was fine. What the two of you shared was not romantic. When the two of you first acknowledged that, you were both incredibly relieved. There was just something about understanding another person in that way.
You immediately knew that you were going to give him Windblumes to show your appreciation. He had invited you to dinner together later that day, which would be the perfect time to give him a Windblume.
After finishing your work shift, you left the busy streets of Mondstadt and headed for the Whispering Woods. It was time to search for small lamp grasses within the grand forest. The shade of the towering oaks made it easy to spot the glowing, blue orbs. You picked the flowers and placed them into a woven basket. Diluc loved those blossoms and so did you. Together you shared them as a Windblume.
After gathering a good amount of small lamp grasses, you went back to the main trail. Although, there was still one thing that you wanted to do before heading to Dawn Winery. You made a detour to the statue of Barbatos located at Starfell Lake. Grand Windblume arrangements surrounded the archon’s statue. You added some blossoms to the array and bowed your head in thanks.
Then you followed the road to Dawn Winery, hoping that your flowers wouldn’t wilt along the way. It was a good time to leave. It was almost time for Diluc’s dinner. He was probably still preparing the food. You walked along the path until you made it to Diluc’s mansion. Thankfully, the small lamp grasses were still fresh. You greeted the staff at the entrance, who were rather accustomed to your visits.
“Good afternoon, Mx. (y/n),” spoke a maid. “You arrived a bit early. Master Diluc is still in the kitchen.”
You thanked the maid and the other staff before entering the mansion. It was a grand building made of dark oak. You walked through its halls until you arrived at the kitchen. Diluc had taken off his coat, his red hair in a high ponytail. He was assembling two plates of his speciality dish, Once Upon a Time in Mondstadt. You waited as he topped the steaming piles of ribs and potatoes with small lamp grass bulbs for flavor.
“Diluc,” you called softly, slightly tilting your head to the side.
He turned and faced you. “Hello, dear. I hope you don’t mind dining on the balcony today.”
You shook your head. The weather was lovely and sunny today and it would be nice to dine outside. Also, you always thought that Diluc’s hair looked beautiful in the sunlight. He burned bright like a phoenix, as if a flame had touched him.
Diluc headed out of the kitchen, where you followed him out to the mansion balcony. He set the steaming plates of food down onto the oak table. You placed the basket of Windblumes next to the table and took your seat. Diluc handed you a silver knife and fork before taking a seat across the table. You bit into the tender meat of the ribs, which blended with the melted cheese. The potatoes were just the right texture and the small lamp grasses enhanced the flavor of the dish. Diluc’s cooking was delectable as always. Then, the two of you finished your meal in silence, just enjoying the other’s company.
You waited until the two of you were done until you gave a Windblume to Diluc. He set down his utensils and watched as you picked a small lamp grass and awkwardly moved your chair so that you were next to him. You turned around and faced him, sheepishly holding the flower in your lap.
“Diluc… I’m sure you already know this...” You began, gently swirling the lamp grass between your fingers. “I really do love you. Thank you for being with me so often, now come closer.”
Diluc leaned in and you tucked strands of crimson hair behind his left ear. You tucked the glowing flower behind Diluc’s ear. He raised a gloved hand and gently held yours, a small smile on his face.
“(Y/n)...” Diluc softly whispered. “You already know that I feel the same for you, love.”
He pulled you into a sweet embrace. You wrapped your arms around him in return. The two of you stayed there, content with being so close.. Nothing could ever replace the feeling that you two felt for each other. You were each other’s fire, comforting and warm all the same.

Saw that your requests were open, would love to hear your take on Julian Devorak taking care of sick reader/apprentice👀
Reader could brushing it off as just allergies or feel bad that he's insistant on helping them.
But of course take yourself and thank you if you accept this!💙
thank you so much for sending in the first request on this blog, it means a lot to me!
Tumblr media
Julian Devorak taking care of sick reader/apprentice:
you’re getting plenty of love and care from Julian no matter how you brush it off and it’s not just because it’s his job to treat you as a doctor
he’s protective of those that he loves and that includes you too of course!
Ilya will have Mazelinka whip up some of her special soup for you
He might get Portia to cook for you too. Her cooking is really comforting as well, especially when you’re sick
if you have to stay in bed all day, he’ll tell plenty of his ridiculous stories about his adventures to keep you entertained
Mazelinka will scold him for staying so close to you if you have something contagious (he’ll say that he’ll be fine and ends up catching it too)
overall, it doesn’t matter how sick you are, he’ll make sure that you get all the treatment that you need (especially with what happened between you two in the past. he’s never leaving your side while you’re sick ever again)

Languages of Teyvat: those lost to time
we know that other languages exist besides Teyvat’s global language, here’s headcanons about the ancient ones that were forgotten by most
Tumblr media
Zhongli fondly remembers the sweet tone of Guizhong’s voice. The dialect that she spoke is now long forgotten, but the melodies of the songs that she sang still remain. Every time someone plays a familiar tune, Zhongli is brought back to the times when Guizhong would braid his hair, humming her favorite songs as she wove flowers into his dark locks.

Flowers of Teyvat Masterpost*
Sweet Flower
Particularly fragrant flowers. They can be found easily, even in the dark. Just follow the scent.
Found everywhere in Teyvat, sweet flowers are often used to add a dash of sweetness to culinary dishes. Sweet flowers are urn shaped and have fused petals with five sepals. Interestingly enough, there appears to be a secondary set of petals and sepals beneath the main flower head!
Mondstadt
Cecilia
A beautiful flower with a name that suits its appearance. It only grows where harsh winds blow, and is just as intangible as the true heart of an unbound soul.
Cecilias grow high atop Mondstadt's cliffs in full sun. They have a solitary, star-shaped flower that appears to have six petals and no sepals, but I suspect they are similar to lilies in that they have three petals and three sepals of similar size and color (or "six tepals"). The parallel veins in the leaves are characteristic of a monocot plant.
Small Lamp Grass
A wild grass that emits light at night. Used in cooking to enhance other flavors. Just as the subtle fragrance of wild flowers will not distract a focused person, Small Lamp Grass’ delicate glow will not attract their attention, either, even at night.
It's most distinguishable feature is that it glows, and it seems to grow well in the shade of Mondstadt's old forests. Small lamp grass has a solitary, urn-shaped flower with five petals and five sepals. The parallel veins in the leaves are characteristic of a monocot.
Windwheel Aster
A plant that adores the wind. To the proud children of the wind, or the citizens of Mondstadt, the Windwheel Asters are “the visible winds.”
With petals shaped like a pinwheel, windwheel aster grows in small groups throughout the Mondstadt countryside. It seems to prefer full sun and, like a cecilia, has six tepals. The parallel veins in the leaves are characteristic of a monocot plant.
Liyue
Glaze Lily
An extremely ancient flower that was said to be commonly seen in Liyue. It transforms the memories of the land into its fragrance during florescence. Legend has it that the flower will open at the sound of pure, beautiful music, and that there was once one who loved this flower more than any other. Now, however, the sight of a Glaze Lily in full bloom out in the wild is a rare one indeed.
The glaze lily used to be a common star-shaped flower in Dihua Marsh, but was nearly wiped out during the Archon War. Now, glaze lilies are cultivated in Yujing Terrace and Qingce Village. The glaze lily has five petals and ten sepals. While the common name is "glaze lily", the veining in the leaves shows that the flower is a dicot and, thus, not a true lily.
Qingxin
A translucent white flower that only grows on the highest stone peaks. It eschews the warmth and moisture of the plains to gaze out afar from the solitary mountaintops.
The qingxin flower prefers full sun and is commonly found on mountaintops in Liyue. It has five tepals per flower and an umbellate inflorescence where there are four flowers per stem. The heart-shaped leaves with net-like veins are characteristic of a dicot.
Silk Flower
A crimson flower that blooms like the rainbow clouds in Liyue. It can be made into silky-smooth fabric. Liyue's Feiyun Commerce Guild is a giant in silk and textile manufacturing. Legend has it that Feiyun Commerce Guild has a secret Silk Flower nursery somewhere in the mainland. Nobody in the industry can rival their yield and texture.
The silk flower, which is used to make both cloth and perfume, is found at Wangshu Inn and Yujing Terrace in full sun. It has five petals arranged radially around the center of the flower with ten sepals. A silk flower bush has red, palmate leaves with veining typical of a dicot.
Violetgrass
A small flower with strong vitality. It is said that its downward-blooming flower keeps its fragrance from dissipating.
Found in full sun on the cliffs of Liyue, violetgrass is a medicinal herb that has tubular flowers and vine-like stems. It has four fused petals and four sepals. The net-like veins in the leaves are characteristic of a dicot.
Inazuma
Dendrobium
A vibrant plant that has also been named the "lycoris" by the poets. It was once thought extinct in the Inazuman archipelago, only to re-emerge now upon the battlefields. It is said that it blooms most enchantingly where much blood was spilled.
Though it is very rare and expensive, this plant is regarded as ominous, and thus is little purchased. Rumor has it that these plants are watered using blood. The bloodier and more brutal the battlefield, the more lovely the dendrobium blooms shall be. Inazumans believe that the souls of the fallen shall follow the winding paths of the bloodied dendrobiums into the next life, thus rejoining the eternal elemental cycle.
But as for those who doubt or are perplexed by "eternity," they shall be shackled to the earth, becoming another enchantingly red flower amid the vermillion fields.
The dendrobium flower grows exclusively near battlefields or arenas. Its nickname, "Lycoris", is likely a reference to Lycoris radiata, the red spider lily, which symbolizes death and reincarnation. The dendrobium flower has six petals and six sepals. The net-like veins in the leaves are characteristic of a dicot.
Naku Weed
Even on windless days, this plant will tremble lightly amid the cries of thunder. The part of it that resembles petals are in fact extensions of the leaves meant to protect the fragile flower.
The Naku Weed grows strongly in areas saturated with Electro energy. Due to its great affinity for lightning, it is often used by residents to predict storms. Stories tell that these plants are what the bake-danuki Ioroi stole from the Shogun's very own garden using its powers, before planting them throughout the islands. Even long after its punishment and disappearance, people still speak of Ioroi's many deeds.
Naku weeds are commonly found in areas with strong electro energy. Although they don't appear to have flowers, at first, if you look closely at the central part of the plant, you will see a small bulb protected by an arrow-shaped leaf-like structure. The number of petals and sepals is unknown. The plant does not have visible veins in the leaves, so I'm unsure if it's a monocot or a dicot.
Sumeru
Kalpalata Lotus
Flowers from vines that grow on cliff sides. It is called a lotus only because it has a similar appearance to one. Aside from that, it bears no other similar properties to the lotus.
The kalpalata lotus is a vine-like plant with rotate flowers that grows on Sumeru’s cliffsides in partial shade. It has five petals and five sepals, both a robin’s egg blue. The center appears much like the carpellary receptacle in water lotuses, hence the name. The net-like veins in the leaves are characteristic of a dicot.
Nilotpala Lotus
Growing in the forest wetlands, these plants only bloom at night with flowers as bright as the moon.
The nilotpala lotus is a night-blooming rotate flower with striking blue petals. “Nilotpala” means blue water lily in Sanskrit, but unlike the day-blooming Nymphaea caerulea, the reproductive organs in the center appear more like a lotus’ carpellary receptacle. It has five petals and five sepals, but the only part that the traveler harvests for use is the center. Although it is called a lotus and appears to have the reproductive organs of one, the nilotpala lotus flowers and leaves both rest on the surface of the water, and its leaves have a split, which makes it a water lily. As a water lily, it is neither a monocot nor a dicot, but rather a basal angiosperm.
Padisarah
A holy and noble plant. The conditions for growth in its environment are very demanding. The flower buds can be processed to make valuable spices.
Named for a flower of old long since gone extinct, the padisarah flower has interesting, purple-tipped leaves and crateriform flowers with six petals and six sepals. It seems to prefer full sun, although whether or not the plant can get sunlight within the world of dreams is questionable. The net-like branching veins in the leaves are indicative of a dicot.
Sumeru Rose
Bright and beautiful, these pure purple flowers give off a pleasant fragrance that will give any passerby pause. While some like to call this a type of ''rambler rose'', its relative lack of multiple flowers means that it falls under a different floral classification.
The Sumeru rose has vibrant purple rotate flowers with six petals and six sepals. Sometimes used for culinary purposes, these flowers are sensitive to the Ley Lines of Teyvat and glow in their presence. The parallel veins in the leaves are indicative of a monocot.
Viparyas
A flower without seeds.Once the earth remembers, the Viparyas will bloom.
Viparyas flowers are only found in the world of dreams. It appears to have a solitary white trumpet flower with fused petals and four purple sepals. The net-like veins in the leaves are indicative of a dicot.
*I'm only including the made up flowers and not the flowers that have a real-world counterpart.

The sky was a clear and brilliant blue, with white clouds scudding across like ships full sail. The wind took hold of you, like a breezy hand on your back as it guided you through the mead. The springtime blossoms were lovely this year. Vibrant orange butterfly weed, blue cornflowers, yellow marigolds, and purple aster were sprinkled over the stretch of green grass. You listened to the robin sing in the sunlit woods as you picked wildflowers for your mother, a small bright bouquet already growing in your hands.
A bumblebee, with pollen dusted feet, bumbled above your head and stole your attention, the bee was so vibrant, so alive, you couldn’t help but follow. The grassy lea softened to mud underfoot as you ran into the wood, rabbits scurried from their burrows as your feet barely skimmed the ground. The spring air tasted of fresh, sweet strawberries, and smelled of damp, dewy grass, and blossomed flowers. You ran and felt like one of the forest animals as you bounded through the wood like a doe. You ran to feel the rush of air on your face and the wind through your hair.
You kept running until you dropped, exhausted. You rolled onto your back and breathed in the endless blue sky above you, the sun glinting off of your face through the filter of spring leaves. Birds swooped and sang, chittering and chirupping from every direction, as they hopped from branch to branch. Blushed-pink blossoms drifted from gnarled branches of cherry trees, showering you with spring snow as you closed your eyes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Loki watched from the darkness as sugar-pink blossoms sprinkled in your hair, and how your skin glittered under the golden spring sun. From where he stood, he could see the outline of your breasts, the pebbled hardness of your nipples as a cool breeze breathed over your sleeping body, rustling your sheer chiffon chiton. He had watched you run through the forest, so free, so full of life, so beautiful. He had to know you, to have you, to own you, his very own little springtime nymph with wind in her hair and flowers at her feet. Loki plucked a small, unblossomed, green bud from its bush and breathed life into it. Its black petals unfurled as he used his magic to transform the flower into a fluttering, inky butterfly.
The butterfly was a flying flower as it flitted over to you, landing on the tip of your nose. You blinked, crossing your eyes as you looked down your nose at the fluttering, black butterfly. It spread its wings, sunlight catching them as they fluttered away. Without thinking, you stood on your feet and followed. You reached out, your fingertips grazing its soft, papery wings.
The embroidered wildflowers that swayed in the meadow thinned out as you stepped into the shadows of towering beech and birch trees. That’s where you saw him. Tall, dark and shrouded in shadows amongst a field of cornflowers. You stopped and stared at the mysterious man who wore darkness so elegantly. Your curiosity was piqued as he disappeared as quickly as he had appeared.
The black butterfly was long forgotten, and your bouquet of wildflowers long abandoned, as you searched for the shadowy man, behind trees, and under bushes. He was watching you and you knew it. You couldn’t see him, couldn’t hear him, but he was there. You could feel his eyes on you. You were like a spring fawn being stalked by a hungry wolf, he didn’t go straight for the kill. Instead, he watched, stalking you from the shadows as you wandered further and further from your familiar meadow.
The canopy of thronged trees blocked the sun’s light the further into the forest you searched. Your feet were no longer yours as you continued to walk into the shadows, only stopping as you reached a ray of sunshine that cut through the shadowed darkness. There, the most beautifully enchanting flower you had ever seen stood tall and proud. It was a narcissus that glowed golden like the sun above. You couldn’t help yourself as you reached down and plucked the flower from its resting place.
The earth under your feet began to tremble, then. There was a violent jolt that sent you backward, then another that knocked you down to the ground below. When the earth began to crack and quake, you scrambled to your feet, as frantic fear set in. You tried running back the way you had come, but the shaking ground made it impossible to regain your footing. From this gaping crevice, where the world had split into two, emerged the shadowy man. He stood before you, wearing a wide, toothy grin; and before you could even think to utter a word, you were whisked off of your feet.
As the man stepped back through the earthy threshold, the earth began to move and quake once more as the gaping abyss came together, closing. The cracking of stone and earth brought you to your senses, you realized you were about to be taken into the black underworld from which he’d come. Terror took hold of your heart, yet your screams of protest were not to have been heard from the world above as you were soon lost within the darkness…
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you opened your eyes you saw silent snow falling from a colorless, black sky. Snowflakes spiraled and pirouetted downward, settling on your hair and eyelashes. You sat straight, naked, sore, and cold as you looked around. Tapering columns of obsidian rose from the stone floors, veiled with icy frost and veined with burning hellfire. The bed you were seated upon was lavished with flower embroidered silks and feathered pillows. You made a move to stand, but was stopped by adamantine shackles around your ankles.
Before you could call out for help, your captor appeared from the shadows of the darkest corner of the room. You trembled as he approached. Petrified, shadowy faces appeared in the folds of his black cloak, faces of fear, of silent, agonized screams--as if it had been stitched by the very souls he ruled over. The man strode forward from the darkness, and you scuttered back against the slippery silks as you felt death radiate off of him. He smiled coldly as he knelt before you, cold, death-like hands resting above your bare knees.
“I am Loki,” he said, his breath cold on your legs, “God of the Underworld.”
Your heart stilled as he placed an icy kiss to your thigh, his familiarity with your body sent a chill down your spine, withering your very soul as the soreness between your legs alighted under his touch.
“You must be famished,” Loki reached into the shadows and pulled forth a golden bowl of red pomegranate seeds, he placed one, then two, then three turned to six, between your lips, the juice staining your trembling lips, “Good girl,” he smiled maliciously as he ran this thumb over your bottom lip, bringing it to his mouth as he sucked the juice from it.
The God unshackled your ankles and before he could react, you were running. You ran for your life knowing that between you and the door, your exit, was another. There’s an icy breath on your neck, and your panic rises, it was dark, cold, and wet as you ran aimlessly through the frosted, stony corridors. It was just the two of you, just you and the shadow of the man behind you. You choked on your sobs as you ran, but it didn’t matter how fast you ran--it never did--because you quickly realized that there’s always someone who could run faster.
He was on you in a moment, his weight crushing as he pinned down your flailing limbs. You stilled as you heard a loud click of a shackle around your neck locking into place. You yelped as he yanked you to your feet by the chain around your neck. You slapped against his chest as he held you by your face, his grip freezing and bruising as he forced your mouth onto his. He pulled away, licking your lips as you squirmed against his hold. Loki groaned as he tasted the sweet and tart flavor of pomegranate on your tongue. He was ravenous and he wanted nothing more than to devour you again, and again.
You hissed as he dragged you along by your chain. You stumbled as you struggled to keep pace with his confident, strong strides, and when you fell behind, you were yanked forward. You crossed a frozen-over river of molten magma, and a dark cavernous corridor illuminated by ghostly torches made of bone and stone, until you stopped before a great throne of obsidian and slithering shadow. Loki sat upon his throne and beckoned for you to come to him, when you made no movements, the god snatched you forward, causing you to stumble and fall to your knees before him. He looked down at you, grinning as he moved you to his lap.
You squirmed as his hands roamed your naked body, leaving frost in their wake. He tsked your disobedience by pulling your chain taut, you teared as your head and neck propped at a painful angle. A shiver ran down your spine as you felt his lips on your neck, fire roared and flamed fiercely as it encircled his throne. He licked up the column of your throat, nipping at the skin beneath your jaw as his hands dipped between your hips, squeezing the insides of your thighs. You tugged against your restraint, grunting as the chain choked you in your efforts.
Loki ran his fingers through your dry folds, parting them like delicate flower petals. You trembled against him as your breath shallowed, you couldn’t take your eyes off of his hands as you watched, helpless, in fear. He pushed your legs further apart, propping them up as he folded you to his liking. You grip his wrists as he touches you once more, tensing as his cold fingers grope your heat. You try to move, to close your legs, but Loki keeps you open, trapped and exposed.
Your breath hitches as he inserts one finger, thrusting in and out of your wettening cunt. Shame sets your skin alight as you hear the wet, squelch of your blooming pleasure. Disgust and desire dancing together in thick, hot sways in your belly.
“Do you have any idea what I’m going to do to you, (Y/N), Daughter of Demeter?” he husked hotly in your ear.
You shivered against him as he added another finger, stoking a dangerous fire that had sparked deep within you. You had half a mind to wonder how he knew your name or who your mother was, but your building pleasure kept you from questioning him, kept you drunk on his influence as he fucked you with his fingers.
“I’m going to defile you,” he growled.
The pain is sharp, but so sweet, you want to close your eyes, to take yourself back to the flowering meadow, away from this hellish place, but you can’t--you’re hypnotized by his nimble fingers as they enter you. In and out, in and out, ebbing and flowing like an ocean wave. Loki holds you against his hips, and you can feel his hardened length pressing eagerly against you. You can’t help the loud moan that escapes your lips as he sends jolts of burning pleasure through your core as he scissors and thrusts his fingers, fucking you hard with his hand. You watch his fingers disappear inside you, and your throat dries and mouth waters at the sight of your arousal on them when he pulls them out.
Your hand tugs at his raven hair as his fingers enter you once more, your cunt hotly welcoming him back inside. Loki groans beneath you as your hands grip and tug at his hair, and you pull at him as you try to quiet your growing moans. A pained growl, laced with masochistic pleasure, leaves him as your grip tightens, threatening to scalp the god beneath you, as he circles your clit with his other hand. Your eyes roll to the back of your head as his hands work in perfect tandem. You squirm with need as you feel that ember, that beginning spark, grow and grow to a full-blown firestorm.
“I want you to come for me, (Y/N). Come on my fingers,” he speaks against your neck, nipping and licking at your burning skin.
He pulls your head further back by your chain as your mouth falls open in a silent scream. Your legs stiffen in his lap as you convulse and shatter into a thousand-and-one pieces. You fall apart in his hands, literally falling into his lap as your pleasure sends aftershocks through your body. Your breathing is still ragged and shallow as you calm. You watch as he brings his soaked fingers to his mouth, his eyes never leaving yours as he sucks your ambrosia from his fingers with a wicked grin.
“Beautiful, so beautiful,” you shiver as you feel him kiss your skin again, your body already trained to the feel of his lips, “And you’re all mine.”
Your eyes opened as you heard him snap, the realization of his words making your blood run cold with icy fear. A servant dressed in silver and gold appeared from the shadows of the throne room, a goblet made of bone and black hematite in hand. Loki took the goblet from the servant and they wordlessly melted back into the darkness.
“Drink,” he instructed you. He glowered at you as you pushed against his arm, refusing to drink. You knew, from the stories your mother had told you as a child, that if any who drank or ate the food of the Underworld, they’d be trapped there for all eternity.
“I am no fool,” you spit.
He sneered at you, then. His smile widening ominously, “Oh, but you are, (Y/N). You’ve already eaten food from my realm, darling.”
You blanched as you remembered the sweet-tang of the pomegranate seeds on your tongue. Bile rose to your throat and tears glossed your eyes as you came to the harsh truth of your new reality.
No, no, no… This couldn’t be, no! This had to be some kind of cruel trick, right?
“Drink,” he instructed once more. You shook your head as your tears began to fall.
Even in your current state, you were even more shocked as he grabbed your jaw, pressing down on the sides until he forced your mouth wide open. He poured the pomegranate wine into your mouth and down your throat, forcing you to choke and gurgle the drink. You swallowed and choked on shallow breaths as the wine dripped down your face onto your bare body.
Loki hummed in content behind you as he licked up your neck and jaw as he tasted your skin and the wine, “Now you shall stay with me forevermore, as my bride, my queen.”
You stilled at his words, hadn’t you already been condemned when you ate the pomegranate seeds? Why “now”? Why had he waited until after he forced that wine against your lips? No… It couldn’t be.
As if he had read your thoughts, he smiled against you, tracing a drop of the scarlet wine that dripped from your chin to the valley of your breasts, spreading the sticky drink across your nipples, “Go ahead, (Y/N), ask me.”
You shook your head, too afraid of his answer. You didn’t want to hear it, not if it meant you had condemned yourself to this hell--this nightmare. You whimpered as he yanked your head back by your chain, exposing your throat to him.
“Ask me, (Y/N),” he hissed.
You took a shaky, but deep breath, “Those pomegranate seeds… Were they truly from your realm?”
“No,” he cackled villainously, “they weren’t--they were from yours.”
Ice froze your heart as his words weighed on you, crushing you beneath their force. You couldn’t even react when you felt his hands move as he unrobed himself underneath you. As his hands spread your legs once more across his… As his hot length prodded your entrance.

I swear to god your like the DA verses Taylor swift. Starting to notice little Easter eggs you’ve planted in older chapters!! I love it!!!!😍😍
So you’re saying you want another Easter Egg?  I might have teased a certain piece of jewelry that our sweet little dreamer was wearing, a certain twenty-four-year-old knew exactly what it was.  So, let’s go in the past nine years ago to when Story was eight and Carter was fifteen...
I Own It
Summary:  Carter gives Story a gift
Pairings:  Carter Baizen X Story Drysdale
Rating:  Adorable
Warnings:  None, 18+ ONLY

Carter watches Story animatedly tell Beau a part of her never-ending fairytale.  Her deep scarlet velvet dress giving her an angelic appearance, which was exactly what you were going for.  Your smallest baby.  Even you and Ransom watch her with such fondness, hoping that no matter how old she gets that she keeps her childlike imagination.  Ransom’s hand presses up against belly softly as he brings you back closer to his chest, giving you an open mouth kiss on your neck.  “Story, it’s almost time for yours and Blade’s bedtime,” he calls to the young girl, who groans.
“Ran, it’s a Christmas party.  Let them be,” you give a wink over to Carter, and he goes over to offer his arm to Story.
“Would you care to dance Princess?” Story unable to vocally answer just nods her head quickly.  Dancing slowly to a Christmas song, and you pull Ran along, so the two of you can dance, and he’ll stop glaring at the boy who is being nice to your daughter, who often gets overlooked by her older siblings.
“Princess, I didn’t give you your gift.”
“Why Sir Lancelot, you did not have to get me anything,” she pulls at his hand into the hallway and away from people.  Carter gets down on one knee and extends the box to Story.  Her fingers, not so ladylike, tear into the present, pulling out a black velvet jewelry box inside.  “What is it?”
“Open it,” Carter laughs at her.  Even though Story is young and Carter isn’t Prince Charming, she feels the butterflies that she’s heard her older sisters talk about.  When she opens it, she doesn’t have to fake the gasp.  “Do you like it?” he pulls the box away from her, and she actually pouts.  “I was just going to help you put it on.”
She watches his nimble fingers pull out the delicate white gold necklace, with a single white rose pendant.  “White roses represent innocence and purity.  Just like your white rose bushes in the garden, Story Rose,” he spins the girl around to put the necklace on her.  “Remember when I gave you that rose this summer?” she nods her head.  “This one will never die.  When you’re ready, or when Prince Charming climbs up your tower, you can give it to him.”
“I don’t want to give him my flower.”
“You don’t have to Princess,” Carter’s eyes light up when he watches the small child try to look down at her necklace.  “Keep it safe, and guard it with your life.”
“I swear it, Sir Lancelot.”
“It’s a very important piece of jewelry.  Whoever owns this flower, owns you heart.”
“I own it though.”
“Because you own your heart,” Story’s eyes glance up at the ceiling, and she taps at Carter’s shoulder.  “What is it Princess?”
“Sir, there’s a magical weed growing in the castle,” Carter looks up to see the mistletoe hanging directly above them.  “The only way to defeat it’s curse is to kiss whoever walks under it.”
“Oh, my goodness princess, what should we do?” without responding Story leans forward to kiss Carter on the cheek.  “Did that cure it?”
“It should, but if not, I’ll have to kiss you on your lips,” she quickly runs away and into your arms that had been standing close by watching.  You mouth a silent thank you to Carter, as you pull your daughter away.  Carter gives a quick smile before he heads back to where Aster is.  Hoping he can get her under the mistletoe.

Whumptober Day 1
All Trussed up and Nowhere to Go (barbed wire, bound) Characters: Fairy!Hyrule
Quickly, Hyrule had settled into the group. Certainly quicker than he had anticipated doing. It felt like coming home, it was easier than it had any right being. Well. Usually.
But Hyrule at heart was a traveler, and after all a lifetime of solo travel does not in an evening disappear. As wonderful as it was to belong and as well intentioned as they all were, being stuck in such a large group was just a little on the painful side of overwhelming at the best of times. Still, Hyrule managed to hold it together for their sake until War's era before the creeping prickling restlessness scratching at his neck finally broke his restraint.
Slipping away for a piece of solitude was always so difficult, needlessly so he would grouse, half the others had the same buzzing under their skin pulling them onward, so the insistence on keeping him so close at hand rubbed him wrong and raw. He let out a long suffering sigh from where he was sprawled over the inn floor, pretending to be interested in rereading his magic textbook for the millionth time, thinking distantly how he'd need to find another one before long. Waiting for the others to get wrapped up in something else. Eventually, finally, as the afternoon began to turn sweltering, the last of his companions filtered out of the room and he sprung up, energized at the chance for some quality alone time.
He scrambled up the stairs, practiced ease and maybe the tiniest help from a little magic already itching down his back making his ascent silent as a ghost. In a single fluid motion he flung open the hallway window and vaulted out, the free fall extending on and on as he let the magic transform him smaller and smaller. And then flight. He shot off into the afternoon sun the thrill of his wings unfurling bubbling out of his chest as high twinkling laughter.
It had been far too long. His destination was already set in his heart, a meadow Wars had shooed the group out of in favor of making the bustling little town already disappearing in the distance by noon for a “proper rest”. How the others could ever settle for a town when there was so much beautiful lush nature around them boggled the mind.
His first stop in the meadow was a bright red poppy, he bowled into it from the speed before settling to catch his breath on it's funny little beaded center. The hazy scent of wildflowers in the hot afternoon sunshine was overwhelming in exactly the right ways and he was half tempted to flopped back and sleep then and there. Instead he pulled himself up to continue his exploration of the beautiful meadow. It was all impossibly tall grass and hedge rows, St Johns wart peeking out bright spots of sunshine, Lilac bushes overgrown, Asters and Daisies and tall Goldenrod, Violets and Lilies, carpeting forget-me-nots. It was a dream, everything he could ever think to wish for his own era. What an ecstatic solitude. Hyrule contented himself with lazing in the vivid afternoon colour drifting from flower to flower, lighting on branches and blades of grass.
It was before the sundown, in the amber light of the evening that Hyrule came across the ruins. Barely visible above the wild meadow grasses, the last remains of a long abandoned house. He really should be going back but it drew him in, what self respecting hero could deny the thrall of exploration?
It was a small house, perhaps a farmhouse once, reduced to rubble. The tile was a bright white, peeking out of the dirt and debris like flowers. Beams from the roof ran off back into the meadow and Hyrule was running down one when he caught a dangerous glint from the corner of his eye.
He knew better than to get too close to any metallic glints like this.
The glint had come from a post sticking up half its intended height, the top half broken off and tangled in a metal wire. The bottom was dotted with little metal loops threaded with the same metal wire. Hyrule moved in, perching on the strange broken fence post, a terrible curiosity burning him up.
He dared a little closer to the wire, landing on the second half of the post to inspect it's strange barbs. The rotted wood caved under his foot and he fell face first, flailing his arms in a vain attempt to right himself before slipping completely. He hit his head off the wire, letting out a strangled sob when it seared the skin on his forehead. His leg smacked into another bit of the coil and his was upended, arms and legs caught in stiff wire, wings tattered by the barbs. But the stinging of the cuts was nothing compared to the searing heat of iron. It felt as if he were tangled up in a lit signal fire, the pain dripping over him like pitch. Up and down lost meaning as every stillness and every movement brought a new unbearable agony. He hadn't even noticed he was screaming until his voice gave out.
A fairy, soft pink, fluttered over as close as she dared and between the swelling of his eyelids and the addling pain Hyrule was convinced he had hallucinated her to comfort himself in his last moments. And then, a terrible gentle coolness washed over him, soothing away the agony and for a single blessed moment he convinced himself it was over and he had finally died. The healing spell dissolved like spun sugar in warm water and was replaced again by the bubbling agony of burning metal. He lolled against his restraints, unconscious from the shock. In the fleeting seconds of lucidity Hyrule thought, a little heretical inkling worming darkly into his heart, that he would sooner condemn his era to his blood than be in turned condemned to burn.
He woke up cradled in a palm, the burns soothed with a cool cloth that reeked of potion. He gagged weakly at the scent and the phantom pain wrapping around him. The hand had a twin that stroked his hair gently and he fell back to oblivion, too comfortable, too hurt, too spent to care who it was who held him.
And if Legend kept his right hand free of any ring from then on, no one noticed or cared to comment.

So our collective chosen name irl is Aster and I want to share the reasons we picked that name cause it’s kinda cool;
We really liked our original initials because they form a joke when put in the context of our last name
Asters are a wildflower native to most of North America and are great for pollinators
When we first moved into our current house the entire field behind the house was full of white asters
the word “aster” means star in Greek and Latin
they grow in tall bushes with many little flowers on one plant, it’s kinda a metaphor in our mind to being a system because in a way we are like many small flowers blooming on one bush
It’s a really resilient and hearty plant and often blooms year after year, this connects to us in the way that even though a lot of bad stuff has and happens to us we also bounce back.
they bloom in many different colors and each color has a different meaning. the pink flower meaning is wisdom and faith, the white flower meaning is purity and innocence, the purple flower meaning is wisdom and royalty, and the red flower meaning is love and devotion

18/07/2022-Lesser Yellowlegs and more at Lymington and bits from home
I had my day off today earmarked for photo processing and uploading and blog posting from the weekend away at the Bird Fair and Norfolk, but did hope to get in a walk too. In the end we decided to have a brief time in this heat looking for a rare bird that had turned up whilst we were away this morning, the Lesser Yellowlegs on Lymington’s Normandy lagoon. Fittingly bringing us to the sea today.
After scanning through groups of Redshanks and Greenshank on a walk all the way around the lagoon, and with the kind help of others we saw this smartly marked and exciting bird. It was a great one to see and I was very happy to see it and watch it for a little bit. I took the eighth picture in this photoset a record shot with my bridge camera of it with Redshank and Dunlin. Another top bird to see this weekend and this year, it follows the similar sounding named Yellow-legged Gull onto my year list which entertains me and is a massive milestone bird as my 190th species of 2022. I cannot believe I am writing this in July, it’s real memorable territory for my year lists now levellng my 2017 total to be my joint fourth highest ever bird year list now. In the only four times in past years I’ve reached 190 or more birds seen the earliest I ever reached this milestone before was October. So I’m still way ahead with how many birds I have seen when comparing to past years.
Also of note for birds here were Avocets with an adorable chick seen, Little Terns including diving which is always nice to see, one of my favourite birds the Little Egret, Grey Heron looking tall and prominent in the mudflats, Canada Goose including wandering along the path which was great to see, Black-headed Gull and Great Black-backed Gull seen well, Black-tailed Godwit, Oystercatcher, Jackdaw, Swallow, stunning looking Linnets including really crimson looking ones, Rock Pipit I believe, Stonechat, Wren at the end before leaving which was nice and Reed Warbler and Whitethroat seen really well warblers that almost looked nicely in place on a very hot day.
There were a lot of butterflies out aptly for this summer’s day with Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Small Skipper and a fair few oceanic looking Common Blues. In a Big Butterfly Count conducted here I saw four Common Blue, ten Gatekeeper, six Meadow Brown and a Small White. So nice to see them dancing through the grass, its the first Common Blues I’ve seen during a Big Butterfly Count this year leaving very little target species of this I’m yet to see in one.
Key flowers I saw today here were my first pretty purple sea aster or it may have been Michaelmas daisy this year I took the seventh picture in this photoset of this, lots of yellow ragwort painting the landscape well, dock and a fair bit of wild carrot. It was pretty to see the sparkling lagoon and sea water and rich dark summer green vegetation and nice meadow, with the brown grass telling of the weather and time of year. I took the first, fourth, fifth and sixth pictures in this photoset of views here today, It was good to get into the New Forest again today it feels as though it’s been a while since I’ve been.
Late last night at home I liked seeing tube-dwelling spider I believe as shown in the third picture in this photoset outside, another spider possibly noble false widow as the second picture in this photoset shows, a lovely Double-striped Pug moth in my room one a species I saw in the house earlier this year. Large White seen on the buddleia bush out the front early this morning as I also took in all the green around being up early to process the photos from the weekend was nice, and as well as sunny scenes enjoyed throughout the day I liked seeing another spider in my room, Goldfinch, House Sparrow, Starling and Collared Dove and a bee in the house. I took the final two pictures in this photoset of the pretty osteospermum the lovely purple flowers on the balcony still going strong one of a few nice flowers seen from home today and bright green leaved trees out the front on a hot and sunny day. I also saw my first ever Beautiful plume moth in the house tonight I do like the plumes and another nice new moth lately, windows being open whilst dark has accelerated my moth season a bit during the heatwave this usually comes about in August when the nights draw in a bit with a lot coming into the house generally.

image captions:
This post includes a series of illustrations and drawings done on paper. They are all colored with alcohol-based markers. There are 6 images in total.
Image 1: A scene illustration of Kyle Klim from the videogame Virtue's Last Reward, drawn on white paper. He is a young man with light skin, messy black hair, and a square jaw. His eyebrows are slightly messy at the ends. He has brown, tired eyes. He has a lax expression of surprise on his face, his mouth slightly open showing his teeth. He is wearing bronze colored armor with a collar that extends up to protect the sides of his neck, leaving the throat exposed. He wears a black layer underneath, covering his entire neck. He has an X-shaped sash that has bronze adornments in a pattern of two dots on the left and right, then a diamond shape, the pattern repeating for the length of the sash. He wears a red robe over his armor but leaves his right-side chest and arm uncovered, similar to a Buddhist monk's robes. He's holding a helmet in his hands in front of him, the face pressed to his chest. In front of him on the left-hand side of the image is a back-view of an older woman. Her hair is long and grey and kept in a ponytail and her skin is darker than Kyle's. She wears a blue-purple shoulder shawl - the rest of her clothing isn't visible. The environment is grey-colored and metal-textured. Both Kyle and the old woman are standing in front of a metal door. [end caption]
Image 2: Another drawing of Kyle Klim drawn on white paper. He is depicted wearing a plain blue jumpsuit instead of his armor. The image is broken into two parts. The top shows Kyle on the left side of the image with his back pressed against metallic walls. There are 15 blue, stacked, empty speech bubbles, drawn small and shaky on the left hand side and getting bigger and steadier on the right hand side. Kyle is listening in on a conversation. A large red speech bubble in the middle of the image breaks up the two halves. The bottom of the image shows a closeup of Kyle's face, his expression is one of shock and distress. The background is black and scratchy, with 1 blue speech bubble and 5 red speech bubbles getting more scratchy and hectic the further down the image they get. [end caption]
Image 3:  A scene illustration of Luna from the videogame Virtue's Last Reward, drawn on tan paper. She is a thin woman with freckles across her nose and cheeks, short orange hair that poofs out at the back and with longer sides that sit on top of her side-swept bangs, and blue eyes; she wears a purple collared dress with puffy sleeves and white cuffs, a white vest with frills on the shoulders and 3 gold-colored buttons on each side, a deep purple shin-length wrap-skirt with light colored decoration in the front corner, and a birdcage necklace. Her expression is soft, her eyebrows raised and worried and her mouth slightly open. The illustration is drawn with a tilted perspective, placing Luna in the centre of the image with her legs in the bottom-right quadrant and her head in the top-left quadrant. The background shows Aster flower bushes - purple flowers with multiple thin, long petals, and a yellow centre - and a clear blue sky (added digitally). [end caption]
Image 4: Another drawing of Luna, drawn on white paper. She is standing with her back slightly shown to the viewer, looking back at something the viewer can't see. Her expression is mostly placcid, her mouth closed and her eyebrows lifted slightly. She is shaded with pink colored backlighting. The background is plain, colored slightly pink and yellow with colored pencils showing the texture of the paper. [end caption]
Image 5: A series of sketchbook drawings done on tan paper. Left page: A bust of Kyle, dressed in a black turtleneck. His expression is slightly disgruntled. Below that is a bust of Kyle as a child, dressed in his armor but without his helmet and his robe. He's holding a white stuffed rabbit toy. His face is expressionless, and he's looking down. On the right side of both of those busts is a fullbody (minus the feet) depicting Kyle in a plain blue jumpsuit. He's laying down on his back with a tablet on his chest - it shows a white screen, and there are 3 small red speech bubbles coming from it. His hands are folded on top of each other on his pelvis. His face is expressionless. [end caption] Right page: Two busts of Kyle and Luna. Kyle is depicted wearing a plain blue jumpsuit. He is drawn in the foreground and is posed to be walking away from Luna, who is behind him. Kyle's expression is slightly angry. Luna is looking towards him with an upset expression on her face. Below this drawing is another depicting Kyle and his father, Doctor Klim. Doctor Klim is an older man with messy, shoulder-length grey hair, swept back out of his face. He wears a white turtleneck. His right eye is cybernetic. He is drawn in the foreground, with Kyle behind him. Kyle is wearing his robe and full armor. Kyle is looking towards his father - his expression is hidden by his helmet. There is a grey and red machine behind him - the art doesn't make it clear, but it is depicting a food cart with Ready-to-Eat meals in it. [end caption]
Image 6: A series of sketchbook drawings done on tan paper. Left page: A 3-panel comic, the panels drawn on light colored stickynotes. The comic depicts Doctor Klim, Luna, and a younger Kyle. First panel: Doctor Klim is sitting at a computer desk, looking at a piece of paper. Luna is behind him. Dialogue: Doctor Klim: Luna. Luna: Yes, Doctor?; Second panel: Dialogue: Doctor Klim: Kyle's hair growth needs to be reset today. Do it now. Luna: O-of course, Doctor. Luna bows slightly; Third panel: Luna is shaving Kyle's head, using a clipper that has a hose attatched to catch the loose hair. There is a caption in the top-left corner that says [Dead Silence]. Luna's eyebrows are worried, and Kyle's face is blank. [end caption] Right page: A bust of the older woman from the first illustration. She has a blank and very tired expression on her face. Some of her hair hangs over her left shoulder. Her shawl has multiple different sized rectangular gemstones on the left side, leading from her collarbone to her shoulder. She is shrugging with her palms facing up. There is white text placed over her that reads "guess I'll die". Below her is an uncolored bust of Kyle at a younger age. He's wearing his armor and has his robe on covering both shoulders. His expression is blank. To the left of him is a stickynote that covers an abandoned line-drawing and marker bleed. [end caption]

Out of each pleasant memory of Gabriel trying and ultimately succeeding in graciously brightening his mood, Raphael holds a certain memory close to his heart.

Asters indubitably remind Raphael of Heaven's Messenger; his younger brother, Gabriel.
Bold yet delicate petals that sway amiably in the breeze. Gabriel, the animated fledgling who would joyously dance when he was feeling down, carefree giggles falling from his flushed lips when he stumbled. Father forbid if one of Gabriel's elder brothers had a mere smudge of gloom present in their actions—The jubilant fledgling would've been dead set on a clear-cut mission: doing absolutely anything in his power to cheer up his brothers. Gabriel had always been his brothers' little ball of sunshine, much like the vibrant citrine center of an aster flower.
Out of each pleasant memory of Gabriel trying and ultimately succeeding in graciously brightening his mood, Raphael holds a certain memory close to his heart. He wouldn't forget it, even if his mind permitted so.
.•° ✿ °•.
Morning skies were always Raphael's favorite. The dawn of a new day, the faint ghost of the moon stuck stubbornly to the yellow skies like a splendid dream with far too much detail. He would spend countless hours just watching the stars fade.
This particular morning was radically different.
Raphael had just lost his childhood friend, the kind black swallowtail butterfly that had captivated him with her bulging eyes as a meek fledgling. She always met Raphael in his garden, sucking away at the supple nectar within the flushed milkweed flowers he'd grown specifically for her. However, it had been a few days since she'd returned from her lengthy adventure to find a mate, and Raphael was growing increasingly worried.
The dawn skies echoed glum without her fragile wings fluttering across them. The milkweeds looked to weep.
Raphael had never been an expressive angel, quite the contrary. It was all about subtlety with him, something only his closest brothers—archangelic—had knowledge of. He himself hadn't even noticed his mistake: He'd forgotten his watering can before he'd embarked on the short trip to his garden.
It was such a trivial feat that Raphael hadn't cared enough to realize it was missing, until he'd long since reached his garden and after he checked if his swallowtail friend had reappeared; She hadn't. It was like the cherry on top of his sick discontentment—He would have to trudge back to the familial archangel nest with a heavy heart and convoluted thoughts.
At least, he thought he would. A too-familiar presence had abruptly stumbled upon him, and Raphael slightly turned in a befuddled daze towards the nearing sensation of Gabriel's easily-recognizable grace.
Gabriel was supposed to be in combat training with Michael that day. There was no particular reason the youngest archangel should have been approaching Raphael's garden. Raphael blankly watched Gabriel land with a small crash—Gabriel hadn't mastered flight at that point in time.
Raphael couldn't help the nearly-imperceptible upward tug of his lips at the sight of his youngest brother now covered in soil and scrambling to stand up, trying to smoothly act as if he hadn't almost knocked himself out. In his jittery hands glimmered Raphael's steel watering can. Raphael peered at it with interest, his stare flicking up to his brother. Gabriel, after briefly maneuvering his head to the side to spit stray grains of dirt out of his mouth, wiped his lips with his arm before flashing a toothy beam at his older brother.
"You still have soil in your teeth," Raphael had remarked.
He observed Gabriel's expression switch from gaiety to dismayed surprise. The younger angel's hand shot up to scrub frantically at his teeth. Raphael's attention reverted to the spot behind Gabriel, the spot where his brother had crash-landed, and he softly sighed in dissatisfaction when his eyes scanned over the healthy aster bush his brother had crushed.
"... And, you ruined my flowers."
Gabriel's scrubbing stopped in an instant to offer Raphael an apologetic look.
"Sorry, dude," Gabriel once again displayed his bright beam, continuing to speak through his smile with a muffled tone, "Did I get it all?"
Raphael transiently paused his assessment of his brother's accidental floral destruction to sweep his sight over Gabriel's smiling teeth—Nothing but pearly whites. A chaste nod followed, and Gabriel's simper dimmed to a close-mouthed one. Raphael continued to eye the watering can curiously, prompting Gabriel to brighten, as if he'd completely forgotten what he'd come for in the first place. The youngest archangel tilted his head sweetly as he merrily extended his hands, presenting the steel watering can in all its glory. Raphael concisely inspected it, his gaze jumping back to Gabriel's face with slight suspicion.
"Aren't you supposed to be with Michael today?" Raphael hesitantly took his watering can from Gabriel's hands. His younger brother pulled his arms back, the grin on his face morphing into the signature pout that Raphael's mind always regressed to when thinking of Gabriel.
"Exactly right! I'm supposed to." Gabriel shuffled in place, his rascal pout never budging. "Let's just say this is a detour, okie dokie?"
Raphael's prodding eyes slanted in both incredulity and curiosity. Gabriel passively considered his brother's expression before swiveling on his heel, facing the aster bush he'd indirectly demolished. Raphael studied him silently, off-put by the lack of mischief that always seemed to follow his youngest archangelic brother.
"I can help replant these!'' Gabriel's voice was jam-packed with genuine enthusiasm. Raphael's suspicion has reached its peak, and he dubiously stepped forward to stand next to his younger brother. Side-by-side, the pair of archangels skimmed over the crumpled mess of lavender petals and evergreen leaves.
"Firstly, you're terrible at gardening," Raphael calmly stated, and Gabriel cocked his head to peer at Raphael with what was probably slight offense prominent on his face. Raphael ignored him as he spoke. "And secondly, why are you really here?"
Raphael marginally pivoted to watch his brother's expression. Gabriel's features didn't take long to fall, and Raphael's entire being peaked in both interest and concern. The Messenger briskly looked away with a hint of timidity, his eyes of sky falling back to the flattened plant before them.
"You forgot your watering can," He said meekly, as if afraid to speak its silly truth. He added even softer, "You never do that."
Raphael's stare simply bore more intensely into his brother, utterly bewildered. Gabriel continued, an anxiety-prompted ramble.
"And you came home late yesterday. I'm worried, Raph," The youngest archangel admitted, releasing a massive sigh as he did so. Gabriel seemed relieved, like the thought had been plaguing his mind significantly. Raphael immediately softened, quick to soothe his brother. His lips moved on their own, and a blatant white lie tumbled out.
"There's no reason to worry, Gabriel," Raphael delusively assured, and he slightly jumped when the Messenger's head snapped back up; Raphael could now physically see the uneasiness present on his brother's face.
"Y'know, you could at least try to sell it a little better," Gabriel whined with a tenuous smile, and Raphael offered an apologetic look in response. A couple beats of silence enveloped the pair, with neither one of the angels bearing the right words to say. Gabriel's abstracted gaze gingerly drifted elsewhere.
Raphael attentively followed his brother's now-fixated stare. The older angel's being subtly slumped purely out of sheer impulse when his eyes lay on the faded coral color of milkweeds—They seemed terribly empty without a familiar pair of miniature black and blue butterfly wings atop them. A flit of acquainted worry spread like a consuming disease over his grace, a halfhearted wash of paltry waves over a burning embodiment of celestial light.
A physically inaudible hum of lamented harmony buzzed from the grace beside him, and a gentle touch brushed against his shoulder. The sudden sorrow within Raphael fleeted away as quickly as it had birthed when the warmth was perceived. With a meager twist of his head, Raphael’s pale eyes once again met the now-sympathetic azure irises of his brother. Gabriel wore a modest frown, his face contorted in enhanced concern.
"Does it have something to do with Basil?" Gabriel's expression grew more worried when the words left him, and hearing it aloud somehow made it more real to both of them. "Is she okay?"
Raphael's movements delayed, and his own uncertainty seemed to float rapidly to the surface at the sight of Gabriel's shared fear. Gabriel had met Basil, Raphael's befriended swallowtail butterfly, a couple years after Raphael had become close with her; Gabriel had happily insisted that he wanted to introduce himself to his big brother's childhood friend.
Raphael's face remained stone as he hesitantly nodded. Gabriel's concern transformed into what looked to be frightened grief.
"Is she…"
"I'm not sure. She hasn't returned from her journey to find a mate." Raphael stated weakly, briefly glancing back at the milkweeds that lowly drooped in melancholy without the swallowtail. The wind drifted through their petals, calling out to her.
At this, Gabriel looked to be a bit relieved. The youngest archangel's face broke into a soft smile after a couple of seconds, and Raphael's eyes ever-so-slightly slanted in inquisition. Gabriel's simper never faltered as he kneeled down in front of the destroyed aster bush.
Raphael watched curiously as his brother began to speak in an upbeat, sing-song tone that was so… Gabriel. He simply turned towards Raphael again with a blinding flash of happily smiling teeth.
"If you say I'm that bad at gardening… then help me replant these! Let's surprise Basil with them when she comes back from her trip!"
A stunned pause ensued on Raphael's end, but never on Gabriel's; His younger brother's essence remained in a harmonizing melody, a sweet positivity radiating from his grace like comfortable currents of summery morning light.
Always so bright. Always so cheerful.
Raphael returned Gabriel's smile.
°•. ✿ .•°
It's silent without Gabriel.
Still. Empty. Void. Overpowering, almost.
And within that silence, thousands of words still seem to be spoken. Shrieked. Wailed. Raphael blindly listens, unaware it's merely a cold reflection of Heaven—of himself.
A muted cry of fear, a tremble of loneliness echoed across space and time. Velvet petals of lull lilac petals mirror the agonized harmony in pity. The aster bush he and Gabriel planted together distantly watches Raphael mourn.
Asters indubitably remind Raphael of Heaven's Messenger—his younger brother, Gabriel. And within the stillness, they remind him of Gabriel's absence.
Lavender beauty blooms quick, and wilts quicker. Raphael replants them every year.
He's counting.
It's as if the flowers hold a piece of Gabriel that Raphael refuses to let go of ever since his baby brother left Heaven. A pout perhaps, or a cheery bliss. A crack of golden morning light within their stamens, a careless dance in the wind. It's all so… Gabriel.
Raphael smiles in their presence, he can't help it.
In Heaven's soil, he plants aster flowers each day in hopes for his brother Gabriel's return.
