There’s a sigh from behind Dorcas and then a body draping over her back where she’s in the pleasantly hot and salty smelling water all the way down to her shoulders.

Pandora harrumphs, legs tightening in the old around Dorcas’ hips. “Just– dunno,” she deflates slightly, cheek smushed against Dorcas’ shoulder, “Can’t seem to get out of my mood.”

Dorcas hums knowingly, drawing soothing circles on top of her thighs where she’s still holding onto her. Pandora and Evan had been arguing the whole car ride, she told Dorcas she’d slept awfully and when she dropped an open tupperware of fruit as they were packing Pandora nearly started crying. 

“Here,” Dorcas says, turning in the loose embrace and tugging the other girl around to her front, “C’mere, babe.”

Further up front it seems Barty has found a seating ledge under the water which he’s currently taking up as much space on as physically possible while Evan tugs Regulus closer, hooking a chin around his shoulder and watching Barty’s shenanigans with a smirk and glare respectively.

As if on reflex, Dorcas’ fingers tighten and she barely represses a noise when she, indeed, feels the meat of Pandora’s ass in them. Her heart skips a beat in her chest and then picks back up a little too strongly, “What if I don’t want to?”

As a child, Sakura was insecure and highly self-conscious about her large forehead, covering it with her bangs. It was not until she met the Ravenclaw Ino in her first year, who defended her from bullies and became her friend, that she become more self-confident. At the start of her third year, Sakura typically gives the outward impression of being polite to her professors, considerate of her peers, and confident in herself. She has occasional moments of bashfulness around the Slytherin Sasuke and competitiveness around Ino, but otherwise appears quite collected. This reservation, though never disingenuous, frequently masks how Sakura feels: in certain situations, she has pronounced feelings of frustration and anger. Rather than display these emotions to others, she projects them inward, allowing a manifestation of who she truly is — what is labelled "Inner Sakura" — to have the opinions Sakura wants to keep to herself. Inner Sakura, whose appearances are marked by an exclamation of "Shannarō!", is in a sense a personality separate from Sakura herself, a fact that allows her to become a skilled Occlumens. At other times, Sakura and Inner Sakura are indistinguishable from each other, usually with regards to her best friend Naruto. If Naruto says or does something that annoys or upsets her, Sakura responds with violence, a reaction that under other circumstances would be delegated to Inner Sakura.

As her third year progresses, Sakura becomes increasingly exposed to the realities of the wizarding world, difficulties for which she cannot rely upon Inner Sakura to cope with alone. During her first years at Hogwarts, Sakura succeeded through studying alone to the point of pride. As the Fourth Wizarding War started affecting the school, however, this is proven insufficient as tasks related to the war cannot be truly completed merely with book smarts, and it is necessary to be able to fight so that dark wizards will not kill her or her friends. The latter makes Sakura particularly disappointed in herself, as she is unable to contribute much in battle and must rely on Naruto and Sasuke to save her. She sets out to change this about herself, dedicating nearly three years of training to making herself as capable as Naruto and Sasuke; in the meantime, she becomes willing to sacrifice herself to protect them, coming to value them both very deeply. She looks to Naruto as a model for this goal, inspired by his rapid growth and his determination to be there for her and all those he held dear. When Sakura realises that she is as rude to Naruto as Sasuke usually is to her at his urging, she starts treating him better, cheering for his accomplishments, and confiding her hopes and fears with him.

Inner Sakura makes one appearance at the very start of her sixth year and then is never seen in her life again. This is because Sakura is finally in touch with her feelings and is willing to express what she's thinking, a self-comfort she picked up during her internship with Tsunade. However, this has also made her more emotional and impulsive at times. Her desire to catch up in strength with Naruto and Sasuke, her protectiveness of them, and her need to prove her worthiness as a witch, brings forth this dark side of her more easily which often leads her to attack her opponents and get rescued by her friends. The portrait of Minato, at one point, witnessing Sakura's outburst on Naruto when he asked if she was his girlfriend, noted that she reminded him of his own wife. However, Sakura no longer thinks poorly of Naruto, but nevertheless expresses her anger and displeasure with him whenever Naruto's immaturity and idiotic traits surface, often lashing out with violence, demonstrating a very obdurate and stiff-necked nature. Regardless, Sakura has deep respect and trust towards Naruto's skills as a wizard, angrily reprimanding and threatening the transfer student Sai when he, although deliberately to test Sakura's faith in Naruto, deemed Naruto weak. Yet, she is ever-worrying for his safety and well-being to the point of easily feeling overwhelming guilt, and values him as one of her closest friends. Sai eventually points out that he believes Naruto knows Sakura too well for his own good, constantly placing himself in personal peril out of his feelings for her so that Sakura will be happy. Sakura is moved to tears by this, feeling unbearably guilty for what she feels she had put Naruto through. Despite her attempts to take responsibility for herself during the war by trying to deal with Sasuke herself, she still finds herself relying on him due to her shaky resolve, nearly costing Sakura her life. She ultimately settles for doing whatever she can for him, trying to do more in supporting him and his decisions concerning Sasuke, trying to do more to help him bear the challenges of being one of the chosen ones and fighting at his side whenever possible. She is helped in this goal by Tsunade's influence, who trained her to have a contempt for losing and an unbending will; she will place herself at risk so that others don't need to and to assure her allies' victory.

Despite Sakura violently reprimanding not only Naruto, but occasionally the younger Gryffindor Konohamaru Sarutobi for their perverted tendencies, Sakura herself has a perverted side which she often keeps hidden. When Konohamaru showcased his ability to transfigure himself into a girl, Sakura displayed her disgust at the transfiguration, but Konohamaru quickly countered by quickly transfigurating himself into a handsome man to spite her, and instead of admonishing Konohamaru for it, Sakura was immediately drawn to the transfiguration, responding with a pleasured screech upon seeing the transfiguration, with the man resembling Sai and Sasuke. However, Sakura is embarassed of her own perverted nature, and upon realising her reaction was noticed by her friends, she quickly tried to make an excuse, but Konohamaru's suspicions that Sakura is just as much a pervert as he and Naruto are is all but confirmed.

Sakura has been in love with Sasuke since her first year and initially focuses on getting his attention above everything else. Her initial infatuation for him was rooted in his good looks, and calm, collecting attitude, and his rejections failed to deter her. Despite being grateful of her loving him after she confesses to stop him from dropping out of Hogwarts, Sasuke rejects her but thanks her before leaving. This rejection deeply upsets Sakura, driving her to plea for Naruto to bring Sasuke back and, when Naruto fails, motivating her to become stronger so that she can bring Sasuke back herself. She tries to separate herself from her feelings when Sasuke becomes an international criminal, attempting to kill him to prevent a war, but her love for him proved to be too great for her to harm him. Even at the end of the Fourth Wizarding War, Sakura holds out hope that she may mean something to him. Despite Sasuke's crimes, Sakura was able to forgive him after he sincerely apologised to her for how much he hurt her. She was also surprised when he exhibited a much softer point with her and began poking her on the forehead, an affectionate gesture he picked up from his brother.

After marrying Sasuke, Sakura became very loyal to him and even refused to leave his side while she was pregnant with their daughter, Sarada. Sakura raises Sarada on her own due to Sasuke being away on missions for the ministry for many years, and she frequently reassures Sarada that Sasuke loves them both and will return home one day. She is also very patient and wise as her love and patience for Sasuke never faded even though Sarada was barely a toddler when he left. Although Sakura is very supportive of Sasuke's duties, she is disappointed when he teases her by refusing to show her affection. Likewise, even after years married, Sakura remains as smitten with Sasuke's good looks as ever. As a mother, Sakura is loving and protective, and has a very close relationship with her daughter and will praise her for her achievements just as quickly as she admonishes her for wrongdoing.

Already said this before in an older post but I read a lot of time travel/fix its so I just assume that when similar events are included in more than 2 timetravel fics (if it's still set in naruto's timeline and not like, minato's or pre konoha), then that's probably what happened in canon. as for who would write it best.. any of my lovely mutuals would do an amazing job <3 i'm vvvvv obsessed with dil's writing so they'd be my first option i think, but i always trust mil when it comes to romcoms and you when it comes to making said romcoms angstier!!

i don't know how unpopular these are tbh but hmm let's see. remus and regulus would never get along, and the marauder reg would like the most is probs peter. remus is plain + weird-looking. pandora's personality is NOT the same as luna's (c'mon that mf blew herself up she was unhinged). regulus isn't as good as most ppl make him out to be, just like he isn't as bad as other ppl make him out to be (i see him as someone who was very ambivalent about blood purity and it's one of the main things that make him interesting . to me). i don't tend to include dorcas as part of the slytherins simply bc my dorcas wouldn't get along with barty + evan (mostly in a canon context) but i do think she'd be friends with reg and hang out with him and his friends occasionally. none of them would listen to taylor swift

Part 1- Sorting

“The decision of the Sorting Hat is generally considered to be final, although its decision can be influenced somewhat by the desires of the wearer.  “

“Very rarely a “Hatstall” occurs in which the Sorting Hat takes a long time to decide where to place a student.  “

Sorting the rookie nine from Naruto is sometimes a divisive topic among niche fans, With debate from many angles for each member.

The four houses from the Harry Potter series (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw) each represent a set of qualities or traits found in first year student. Although at the beginning of the Naruto series, the Rookie Nine are all 12 years old, this is the point in time I will make my judgements on.

This is an important note. By being both their earliest age in story for both HP and Naruto, it is before any character from either story have had much of a chance to reveal their true characteristics.

I will be taking backstories into account where applicable for each character. Although, obviously adapted into the English setting of HP. Only characters with distinct friendships will know each other before meeting (let’s say everyone interacts briefly on the Hogwarts Express)

So Shikamaru and Chouji, Ino and Sakura along with their crush on Sasuke, and Hinata and her crush on Naruto.

Now onto each houses qualities. Direct from the Harry Potter wiki.

Gryffindor- “The Gryffindor house emphasises the traits of courage as well as "daring, nerve, and chivalry," and thus its members are generally regarded as brave, though sometimes to the point of recklessness. “

Though, during the HP series, several negative traits are also shown in Gryffindor characters. Arrogance, and self righteousness.

Ravenclaw- “Ravenclaw House prizes learning, wisdom, wit, and intellect in its members.[4] Thus, many Ravenclaws tend to be academically motivated and talented students. “

“They also pride themselves on being original in their ideas, and methods. It's not unusual to find Ravenclaw students practising especially different types of magic that other houses might shun. “

While there is some overlap in house qualities, we can make clear distinctions in each houses characteristics.

Part 3- My Justification

Naruto Uzumaki.

Wow, putting the main character in Gryffindor is real original right? Well, twelve year old Naruto fits in their just right. I’ve seen arguments for Slytherin and Hufflepuff, but here’s why I disagree.

Naruto is an extremely outgoing character, quickly able to form bonds and his main goal is to be acknowledged by everyone. He grew up isolated and unloved, and is desperate for any form of recognition, even playing pranks and causing a messes to gain the attention of others.

So Naruto is not the humble stereotype we give to Hufflepuffs, not to mention his competitive personality, as shown through his interactions with Kiba and Sasuke.

Now why not Slytherin? Twelve year old Naruto is ambitious, seeking his dream of being Hokage, resourceful, in his scrappy fighting style and has a cunning streak. But these actions can also be viewed as brave and reckless.

He’s pretty close between Gryffindor and Slytherin, even to the degree I’d argue he’d be a Hatstall, like Harry himself.

Butttttt, something that will be important throughout this list, is in fact, alphabetical order. People are sorted alphabetically. So our R9 would go in this order.

Sasuke goes right before Naruto in this case! Sasuke who is a Slytherin, whom Naruto would certainly already have a grudge against. Their rivalry is the main focus of the Naruto series, so yes, I believe it would affect their sorting.

Ah Sakura, the passionate young woman of Naruto. At twelve, she was boy obsessed, studious, and naive to others problems.

Obviously the book smartness of Sakura is an instant hint towards her Ravenclaw nature. Sakura was the only Genin in the written tests of the Chuunin exams to be able to pass through her sheer knowledge.

Early Sakura also lacks the bravery she develops of the course of the series, often floundering in battle and faltering when tough choices need to be made. Her development over the series shows a brave and strong woman grow from this fragile girl, however, I don’t believe that’s something the Sorting Hat would take into account. This is genesis Sakura.

Sakura is a seeker of knowledge through and through. When she realsied she was no help on the battlefield, rather than throw herself into the same training as her peers, she sought out Tsunade and became a medical ninja.

Since Sakura would go before both Ino and Sasuke, their placement does not affect her.

Sasuke Uchiha

Ah Sasuke, motivated by his ambition and lust for revenge, even from the age of twelve.

He is a seeker of power, views others as lesser to himself, and those who he sees as stronger, he seeks to surpass. He rejects the help of others, even when their interactions can make him happy.

Sasuke seeks to restore his family (clan), but this obviously does not mean physically restoring them. He seeks to restore the honour that Itachi took from them in his massacre (which I guess in this setting would mean a whole lot of Avada Kedava)

But that is just his motivations? What about his qualities?

They can could be easily spread between the houses.

Hard work? Sasuke trains more than any other member of the R9, and even tailors his diet to build the strongest form he can.

Seeking Knowledge? Sasuke would jump to learn anything that could give him an advantage over everyone else.

Daring and Nerve? He ran straight at Kakashi during their first bell test, aiming to fight him as an equal, when Kakashi was years better than him. Sasuke also initially takes on the leadership role when Kakashi is not present early in the series.

Overall, all Sasuke seeks in early Naruto is power. He wants to be stronger, and why wouldn’t the reputation of Slytherin offer such power? His goals are short sighted, but learning Dark Arts through his more questionable peers ( because lets face it, there’s always someone dodgy in Slytherin) would be the quickest way for him to avenge his family.

Ino Yamanaka

Ino, the confident, the bold, the loyal. So why Slytherin? It’s not ultimately the evil house, so we’re really working on Ino’s traits here. We’re really working with process of elimination here.

Gryffindor and Slytherin share a lot of traits, especially when applied to Ino, but there’s a few things that I’ll get to that lean her more towards the snake side.

She’s not the studious type like Sakura, choosing to cheat of the girl in question than even begin to tackle the written test, and although she seeks to learn medical jutsu later on, it’s done in the name of becoming stronger, but rather to help others and to not let Sakura overtake her.

Her loyalty is also one of her stronger traits, but when it comes to others, she takes on a more submissive supporting role, rather than the fierce defence other’s would say is loyalty. She is kind at heart, and treasures her friends.  

But you know a key event before the series? Sakura dumps her as a friend.

Ino is hurt and prickly after this, choosing to seek the attention of Sasuke, perhaps more so as a rival to Sakura rather than any clear feelings towards the boy.

Ino’s fighting style also reflects a Slytherin nature, as she often makes moves that are considered out of the box for a person such as herself. When she cannot physically best Sakura in their fight she chooses to chop off her hair and run her jutsu through it in a very resourceful move, especially considering the flat and open area.  

In her team she is the first character to take on a leadership role (followed later by Shikamaru and then Chouji). Being considered bossy by her team, she makes bold and expressive manoeuvres against the Sound trio in their brief scuffle.  

But ultimately it comes down to one thing. Ino is sorted last.

The last ‘fuck you’ to Sakura is getting sorted into the same house as Sasuke.

Shikamaru Nara

If there’s anyone I’ve spent hours thinking about, it’s Shikamaru. He’s in my opinion the hardest member of the R9 to place in a house due to both his character and lack of character. The lazy boy who wants to do as little as possible is tough to nail down if you think to hard on it.

As a twelve year old, at a glance, he just wants it easy. Not really a trait that fits in any of the house. But the Sorting Hat can look deeper, and see who he truly is inside (something I’m sure he’d find troublesome). He wants to live an unremarkable life, he has a deep devotion to his friends (in this case, just Chouji for now), a strong moral compass and a sharp, but hidden mind.

So initially, a lot of people would say Ravenclaw. You don’t get smart by just sitting around right?

Well, Shikamaru explicitly admits he doesn’t like to seek out new things. During the pursuit of the Sound Four, he mentions “his dad forced him to read” a book on trap ninjutsu.  Even in later life, he holds to this, as shown in Shikamaru Hiden.

“If you said he wanted to be one of those ninja who practiced vigorously to improve their ninjutsu, you’d be wrong. He certainly never thought about studying medical ninjutsu and becoming a specialist in the vanguard back-up, either. If you said he wanted to be someone with a high rank in encryption or in medical surgery, you’d be wrong too.”

Shikamaru’s intelligence comes from his instinct. To quote Asuma, during their fight with Hidan:

“Shikamaru has a brilliant, swift analytical prowess that lets him see the next 200 moves, and the instinct to pick the right one”

Ok, what about Gryffindor or Slytherin? He’s clever, resourceful, chivalrous and has a strong nerve. But you know what?

Shikamaru doesn’t value that part of himself. He calls himself a coward. He’d rather play possum than get in a dangerous fight. He refuses to hit women, but bonks their heads into walls and jokes about punching Tayuya when she changes form.

It’s not until he’s accepted the responsibility of being a Chuunin that he starts embracing these traits. The Sorting Hat can’t see the future, it knows they are there, but the same can be said of everyone.

So what does he value? Chouji. Chouji and Shikamaru are very loyal to each other, both willing to risk their life for the other, with the utmost confidence in the other. It doesn’t matter if he’s fat or ‘weak’ like others say, he is his best friend.

Chouji is before Shikamaru in the ceremony. Shikamaru wants to be in the same house as Chouji.

The hat sees traits in all the houses, but ultimately, Shikamaru gets to influence its choice.

He picks the easiest one.

Chouji Akimichi

Ahh the sweet Chouji. The kind, the caring. Strengths not considered strong by a teenage boy, but valued by everyone else. He has a short temper when his weight or Shikamaru is insulted, but is otherwise a mild and gentle boy.

Chouji is distinct in Naruto to be one of the last characters to truly realise their power. What he lacked in confidence, he made up for with his bonds.

So Chouji is a textbook Hufflepuff, all you’d need to tell him is that the dormitories are next to the kitchens and he’s in.

We’re talking about the boy who nearly killed (by taking the red pill and crushing Jiroubo in one blow) himself because someone called his friend ‘ a shadow loving depressing moron.”

**Hinata Hyuuga **

Hinata is a bit of an oddball. Soft spoken, shy, polite to a fault. She dislikes confrontation altogether.

She’s also noted to be a very supportive person, tending to her teammates and Naruto, being inspired by them. She works hard to overcome her flaws and doesn’t give up in the face of adversity.

So why did I pick Gryffindor? Why not Hufflepuff?

Because of her first real establishing moment. Her fight with Neji. Someone she knew she could never win against. She cried when he belittles her, but in the end she gives her all in that losing battle. Her heart got damaged, and even during the battle her arms was covered in spots from her chakra being sealed off.

If that’s not bravery, I don’t know what is.

Hinata is also bold enough to choose not the path her family dictates for her, but the one she made, of following Naruto.

Hinata doesn’t get sorted before Naruto, but the Sorting Hat sees what she’s willing to do for her dreams.

**Inuzuka Kiba **

Kiba, poor Kiba. One of the least developed members, second only to the last person on this list.

With so little to go on, Kiba is a boastful, impulsive and proud young man. He’s fiercely loyal to initially Akamaru, and later on his friends. He’s considered a ‘problem child’ by his mentors, takes charge of his team right off the bat and feels threatened by Shino’s advice, claiming he’s trying to take charge.

Kiba is also pretty chummy, finding it easy to get along with people he likes, like Hinata, and later on Naruto. He gets frustrated when Naruto overtakes him, but still views himself as a worthy rival.

Kiba is such a wild, fierce and impulsive character, its hard to see him in any other house.

Shino Aburame

Shino has always been a bit of an outsider, even among his friends. Even with his teammates he holds himself at arms length and keeps his personal problems to himself. He also holds grudges like no other.

Side character for life, his goals, dreams and personality beyond what is shown is hard to grasp. Heck, his Infinite Tsukiyomi dream was to discover a new breed of giant insect.

Shino embodies the side of Ravenclaw that represents eccentricity. He gets called ‘creepy’, refuses to show more than his calm persona to others and he’s nitpicky when it comes to others.

I chose to put him in Ravenclaw, simply because no other house seems to embrace his quirky nature. I believe the hat would sort him there so he could grow in a house that has other members with such personality, where he’d be free to grow and learn in an environment free of judgement.

Conclusion

Well, that was a few hours well wasted!

Although I think I’ve made some strong arguments, I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments. It’s such a divisive subject with many interpretations.

Okay so yes Ino is Shisui's hostage, everyone better hold onto their tits because it's about to get apocalyptic in here.... So how does Shisui do this task?

I wanna say he water walks for a bit, using point-me, and then he has this horrible moment where he's staring into the water beneath his feet and it's dark and murky and Ino is down there, possibly drowning even though logically she can't be, and shisui is freaking the fuck out but he's also frozen in terror and he's getting more and more worked up and he just... Explodes into action, there's water going everything, it's like a god-damned bomb went off, he's struggling to swim as fast as possible and freaking out through the bubble head charm and oh my GOD there's another little girl down here WHAT THE FUCK and Harry is waiting already and he's torn too and then Krum arrives looking like a fucking SHARK and shisui and harry agree to grab all three hostages, they get close to the surface and suddenly harry seems to be choking, Shisui freaks the FUCK out and drags him into his bubblehead charm so they're gasping for air close enough for their mouths to almost touch and it's panicking and hoooooooly shit and-

am i the onlyone who thinks Obito is a Gryffindor?? I can't see him as a Slytherin at all. also what do you think Sakura is?? I keep switching between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor but leaning more to Gryffindor, also what about Ino, Temari and Gaara houses?

The following list shows which house I would personally sort the Konoha 12, the Sand Siblings, and Obito in.

Naruto - Gryffindor (he charges in headstrong to the point of recklessness, and was the personification of the Will of Fire, Gryffindor’s signature element).

Sasuke - Slytherin (he’s very ambitious, became the leader of his own clique (Taka), and has an affinity for snake summons, which is Slytherin’s emblematic animal).

Sakura - Gryffindor (she’s headstrong, short tempered, and very daring).

Neji - Ravenclaw (he’s very intelligent, and had an ongoing motif of the freed bird, which is Ravenclaw’s emblematic animal).

Lee - Hufflepuff (he’s very just, fair, and a really nice guy, to the point where he even has the “nice guy” pose).

Tenten - Hufflepuff (she’s demonstrated a lot of patience towards her teammates, and dedication towards her craft).

Hinata - Hufflepuff (she is patience, loyalty and kindness personified).

Kiba - Gryffindor (he’s very daring, has a lot of nerve, and is always willing to say what needs to be said).

Shino - Slytherin (he can be very resourceful and cunning).

Shikamaru - Ravenclaw (he has inhuman levels of intelligence, and he is wise beyond his years).

Ino - Gryffindor (she’s headstrong and short tempered).

Choji - Hufflepuff (he’s very kind, loyal, and is an Earth type, which is Hufflepuff’s signature element).

Gaara - Hufflepuff (a tough one to sort, but at heart, he is truly patient with others, loving, fair, just and modest).

Temari - Gryffindor (she's bold, audacious, daring and determined. She can also be short tempered, like the other Gryffindor girls).

Kankuro - Slytherin (very cunning in his fights, prideful of his village, and resourceful with the use of his puppets).

Obito - Gryfindor (he's a carbon copy of Naruto).

So overall, my house placements would be Gryffindor x 6 (Naruto, Sakura, Kiba, Ino, Temari and Obito), Ravenclaw x 2 (Neji and Shikamaru), Hufflepuff x 5 (Lee, Tenten, Hinata, Choji and Gaara), and Slytherin x 3 (Sasuke, Shino and Kankuro).
