In honor of Arpeggio's birthday the 20th anniversary of Sly 2: Band of Thieves--my all-time favorite game--I decided I wanted to do something for it, but couldn't come up with anything in particular. Then I figured, ya know what! I always wanted to color a couple of my old Inktober pieces I did back in 2017 when I did my Sly Cooper series. So I plucked one and put some digital color on it! I messed with some new brushes too while I was at it.

It's interesting going back to it. 2017 feels just like yesterday, but I can see how differently I handled my art even then. I was still in college at the time, which is wild to me!

Ironically, this inspired both some old and new ideas! So hey, expect some more ArpeggioSly Cooper-themed pieces to come up this month ;) Perhaps, even... a return of my Survived!AU? Who's to say!

I have to wonder what Neyla and Arpeggio's relationship was like. I know Arpeggio describes her as his "protégé" but that can mean a lot of things. Was it a master/student relationship? Were they partners? Was it more like a father/daughter relationship? It's just left kind of vague and I want more.

Arpeggio (or the Contessa) as Kris (The Momager) and Jean Bison as Kaitlyn Jenner (fuck you. *transes your Jean Bison*) simply because them being an old married couple is practically canon and i think it'd be funniest. also out of all the members Jean and Arpeggio seem to be the oldest? or at least may have seniority? (or i just think that cuz they are like the last two members we face) just these three are the mom and dad most likely okay.

Rajan, Dimitri, and Neyla as the main three kardashian sisters, Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney. I don't really have any reasons for it except they are the last three of the klaww gang left.

this is the dumbest thing ive ever had to think about thank you. yall can feel free to add on or make corrections since my knowledge is very limited in regards to the kardashians.

Snapcube Fandub AU where the Cooper Gang retains their personalities from the titular Snapcube Fandub.

(Sly 2 is just a continuation of Kill All Birds as Sly goes after Arpeggio (a bird). /j

I like to imagine Dimitri as Fandub Eggman-adjacent and Neyla as Fandub Rouge-adjacent. Maybe there will be a Sly 2 fandub someday...)

i feel like one aspect of Sly 2's climax that isn't considered enough is how Bison gets his hands on all the Clockwerk parts and sells them to Arpeggio. the gang goes through a lot during the Rajan and Contessa episodes so once we get to He Who Tames the Iron Horse and the operation is a big success without any traumatic events going down, it makes it seem like Bison isn't really a threat. sure he's a brute but he's stupid so whatever. i don't think anyone expected him to not only beat the Cooper gang but also acquire all the Clockwerk parts; not even his fellow team members. Arpeggio calls him a troglodyte, remember. and SP are kinda like masters of setting expectations and then breaking them because Bison's call to Arpeggio is cleverly placed at the beginning of the first Canada level which served to suggest like "hey, here's a tease of the Klaww Gang's final member who sounds like a complete brainiac mastermind, like how is the gang possibly going to face him in the final episode of the game?" setting Arpeggio up as the final villain and by default downplaying Bison so no need to worry about him, right? wrong bitch.

Okay so this is not even a critique or much of a commentary but it’s just acknowledging some Sly Cooper… design choices that keep bouncing around in my head rent free

Like I’ve never seen anyone talk about some of this

- the boldness of making a full 1/3rd of the enemies to be encountered in Paris frog people

- Speaking of Paris, apparently those flashlight guards kid me could only guess were some kind of scary cows have this entire time been warthogs.

- just always thought these cyclops squid guards from Relaigh’s level were interesting.

- boldness part 2: Pigs have consistently been the animal of choice to represent the wider police force behind Carmelita, up until only the third game

- Between the bats, the pigeons, the parrots, and the vultures I need Sucker Punch to answer me straight whether or not all the avians are actually typically capable of flight or not. In-game play seems to suggest they do have some limited form of flight and may just be weighed down by personal objects. Clockwerk flies, sure, but he’s a massive jet boosted android. But wait, Arpeggio’s entire sad backstory is that he couldn’t fly, so that MUST mean the norm for birds in this world is fully flight-functional wings. The reason I’m BEGGING to know is so I can say if it’s canon or not that bird people in Sly Cooper can just take off at any moment by flapping their arms ala Bojack Horseman, because it would be hilarious

- sorry I’m actually not finished with the birds but seriously, are their wings functionally hands or not? Clockwerk has literally been seen to only grab things with his feet, the bats in the Contessa levels certainly don’t seem to get any manual dexterity out of theirs, but????

Okay! So that actually settles it- except in game vulture guards also… only ever… use their feet to handle those same crossbows.

I’ll try to tell the little hamster in my brain it should really stop asking questions about the birds at this point tbh
