Cross Stitch 2025: 5 More Reasons to Start
"A hobby a day keeps the doldrums away" ~ Phyllis McGinley
Continuing from my previous post, I share five more reasons you should start cross stitching in 2025...let's go! 🔥
In a second nutshell, cross stitching is:
1. Broad.
Not a boring broad, but broad in a way that allows for a wide variety of pattern options. There are so many wonderful designs out there to choose amongst! From vintage to modern, quirky to classic, or dramatic to demure, you may just erupt in a tizzy trying to decide which project to start next.
Tumblr media
2. Flexible.
Whether you are just starting your journey or are a seasoned stitcher, cross stitching offers flexibility. You may choose to start with a simple pattern or a complex one. You may also choose to stitch small, even micro designs; or, opt for the challenge of an ultra-large pattern.
Tumblr media
3. Versatile.
Although you may finish a project and think "...great, now what do I do with it?", there are a plethora of finishing possibilities. A few examples include framing, hooping, plaques, paper art, tags, bookmarks, etc. A little creativity with completed works goes a long way!
Tumblr media
4. Compact.
Not only is cross stitch portable, it is also compact in storage. I love the ease at which I can store my stitching stuff. It helps me stay focused on the project while not loosing sight of an organized space.
Tumblr media
5. Meditative.
We live in a complex, chaotic world. Cross stitching helps slow the mind and breath, easing the restless soul. Anything which serves our mental health while adding beauty to our everyday lives is worth the time and investment.
Hope you consider starting this, or any new positive and productive hobby, in 2025! Cheers 🎉

Really love using upcycled materials to stitch cards - doilies, beads, ribbons, pieces of an old quilt.

Music of the Spheres
Inspired by the creative people @bohnmulloy, I took the photographers’ monochromatic design challenge. I ran with the palette and composition by @stephaniebohn to make a little quilt (14″ square) that sings with harmony and happiness. Thanks to @meg_mulloy for the prompt.

knitting tutorial made by a twenty-something knitting influencer: 18 min long, 12 of those minutes being the intro and a sponsor plug, they show the first few steps of the tutorial at the slowest speed known to man, they show the most important steps at a neck-break speed, they stop every five seconds to talk about what they just did, 40,000 comments filled with questions ranging from insightful to “how do i knit”, filmed with a camera that costs more than a car, the tutorial is incorrect.
knitting tutorial made by a seventy-something grandmother: two min long, filmed 17 years ago, shows you what you want with the skilled patient hands of a beloved deity, made with the world’s shittiest camera, the best video on the fucking internet, four comments and 30 views, you lose the video and never find it again.
