And don't get me started on season 6, right of the bat we have Buck cooking dinner at the loft while Chris and Eddie play games, completely casual as if that happens every week. They're talking about deep stuff, Chris is roasting Buck, they're a family and it's pretty obvious.
And Eddie standing there all proud while Buck threatens to cut up a car, the wordless conversation they have when the guy at the tree call tries to hit on the victims sister, Eddie noticing that Buck is quiet and asking if Chris had talked to him about the secrets he's been keeping, the where the hell are you going when Buck steals that bike to chase the dude in that car, Eddie looking all offended that Buck didn't tell him about the donor thing, Eddie and his husband what face when Buck makes a dumb joke, and like why was the song going "i want your sex and your affection" while they look at each other in red flag?? And Eddie's husband no face when the naked lady drives into the station, for some reason the softness of Buck sitting next to Eddie in the roof and Eddie handing him a hot cocoa, give me a second let me grab Eddie during the conference call.
And Eddie being supportive through the Buckley parents (derogatory) visit, everything about the lightning, alright cowboy go get 'em, Eddie being thrown off the truck and still getting up there again as fast as he could, the way he kept screaming Buck's name, the completely irrational decision of trying to lift all of Buck's weigh one handed, the speed Eddie gets down, Eddie pushing Bobby out of the way and Bobby making Eddie drive (did you know that Eddie is shown driving the ambulance 3 times in all the other seasons? Eddie doesn't drive), Eddie taking over the CPR even tho he was in the driver seat, Eddie being the one to shock Buck and get his heart beating again, the tears in his eyes as he screams to the doctors to do more, the way Eddie can't look at Buck laying there, but how he's acting like he can't leave, the way the only thing that gets him to go into the room being Chris, the whole thing with Chris in the room, also the way that the first thing Buck remembers in his coma dream being Eddie securing him to the ladder, Buck getting overwhelmed by the attention and running to Eddie, the way Buck can't relax at the loft but falls asleep at the house instantly, them talking about the shooting, the domesticity of that kitchen scene, the way they are looking at each other, Buck looking up at Eddie on how to handle dying, Eddie and Chris hanging out on the loft, Chris doing his homework there, everything about the poker game (tell me that wasn't a date i dare you), they absolute fondness as Eddie watches Buck playing, 3 minutes 17 seconds (how do you know that Eddie, please tell me how you know that), Buck winning the dinner he's planning on making to Chris, and Buck baking cookies for Chris's class AT THE LOFT with Eddie no where in sight, Buck telling Eddie to ghost his date, the whole thing with Pepa saying she didn't want Eddie to be alone when literally the episode before we saw him being like that with Buck, the cemetery scene (it makes me wanna scream and one day i will go on a spiral about it but that could have cool implications in the future so im chosing not to panic) them talking, the shout out to you don't need to pretend with me with the you don't need to be anything for anybody and them sitting basically on top of each other at the truck, teasing Chim together and Buck knowing about Eddie and Shannons history, also everything about Buck rescuing Eddie at the bridge, the framing parallels with the shooting, the focus on the hands, the i got you and that moment where Eddie was so about to lean on Buck before Hen got down.
They're playing a long game. I'm chosing to believe that. Because if they aren't they are stupid and the writers have no idea how to make a friendship look platonic and we know that's not true because the show has great examples.
No because I'm having a delusional they casted Ryan with a plan day and like i need to know why they introduced Eddie with a slow mo shot of him shirtless right after Buck's love interest left, and had SO MUCH TENSION go on between them that was then diffused by exactly 1 (one) compliment and a promise of having each other backs, something that's used by Buck and Eddie when it comes to romantic partners, and then they had Buck drive Eddie to Chris after the earthquake right after they showed Athena running to her family, Hen running to hers and right before Bobby shows up to check on Athena and meets the kids and Michael, and then they had Buck go with Eddie to check on abuela, and had Buck clear with Bobby for Chris to be at the firehouse before it even occurred to Eddie to do so, and then had Buck's sister accuse Buck of having a boy crush on Eddie, and then they had Buck solve a major parenting issue for Eddie without prompting or making Eddie feel inadequate, something that becomes extremely relevant when you find out that Eddie was teenage father and his parents tried to take his kid away by telling him he is inadequate as a parent and the whole way they made Eddie feel like a bad father, and then have a love interest be introduced for Buck that Eddie immediately hates on the same episode Buck assumes Maddie is talking about Eddie, and right before Eddie's wife comes back, then they had a gay couple make Buck have a revelation about what love means, then they had Eddie take Buck to a family outing that Eddie is denying Christopher literal mother of and had a complete stranger that would never be spoken of again tell Buck that they had an adorable son because, let's face it, they totally gave Eddie a kid that kinda looks like Buck, and whose friend just tags along to take the friend's kid to see Santa sitting that close while watching said kid and somehow having a conversation where it sounds like Eddie is justifying sleeping is his honest to God wife and have Eddie be the one to try and comfort Buck when Maddie goes missing and have Eddie, a firefighter, acting as a medic and just holding Buck's hand while they tried to lift the firetruck when it would've made more sense for Eddie to be the one lifting the truck and Chim, who had claimed to be the most experienced paramedic at the other bombing, treating Buck, then have wistful shot of Eddie saying the firehouse feels wrong because Buck is not there and having Buck with a full leg cast fighting Maddie that he needs to be there for Eddie's ceremony, a ceremony that has a slow mo shot of them hugging if I'm not supposed to look at season 2 and go huh? and question the direction they are going with them?

Someone left a comment on one of my videos talking about how buddie not being canon is gonna end up the biggest missed opportunity of television history and i can't stop thinking about it. I won't lose hope until the show ends, but like, buddie will either be the greatest slowburn to ever slowburn or the biggest missed opportunity ever. There will be no in-between. I don't think there's a compromise where their story feels satisfactory and they don't end up together. Watching everything that happened and all the choices they made regarding their relationship from the second Eddie was introduced, it make it feel like they are being set up for something big. I hope there's a plan. I hope it's not accidental and will lead up to something. Or else it will be a huge missed opportunity.
