I mean, I tried to, at least... I guess I was “too boring” and slept most of the time, so I never really played with anyone else in the village when I was younger. My siblings and I are close, though, but they don’t really count, do they?

That’s not to say I’m not acquainted with anyone or never talk to others! No, no, everyone is super nice! I just don’t have any close friends that aren’t my siblings, ahaha...!

A-anyway... I actually found the egg alone in a forest while on my way home. Poor thing... I’m going to take it with me so it’ll have a home, too!

And, uh... I’m not so sure if I would consider myself a parent? I’m sure if it sees me first after hatching, it’ll think of me as its parent, but... I’m unsure of how to raise a child... It would probably be in better hands with someone else.

There must be a orphanage in your village or a motherly figure who wants a child... or a wise village leader you can turn to for advice?

I am bringing it back to the village with me, but... I don’t know anyone personally that could possibly take care of this egg or whatever Pokémon hatches from it...

Good to know your tails can grow back! wish my line were as fortunate... -_-; Wait, does that mean your other body parts can grow back too or just your tail? And does that trait continue on in your slowbro/king stages?

Yep, this trait continues on into our evolved forms, too! Although, we tend to not remove the tails of any Slowbro. You know, for obvious reasons... Haha...

Yuki: So uh.. do ya guys like, have a pheromone in yer tails that attracts Shellder or what? Why is your tail crazy attractive to shellfish and humans?

Hmm, actually, our tails secrete a flavor that attracts, well, anyone! That’s why we use our tails to fish as Slowpoke; the prey we catch is drawn to the flavor. Naturally, Shellder would enjoy it, also! Therefore, when they latch onto our tails, we evolve into Slowbro. Unfortunately, because of their firm grip on our tails, we can’t use them to fish, so we would need to swim and catch our food ourselves. Ah, so much work…

Also, on very rare and special occasions, Slowpoke will have their tails removed and be given to villagers as a treat! They’re very tasty, and nutritious!

O-or so I hear, that is…! We don’t eat our own tails; that would be quite weird, haha… But don’t worry! Our tails grow back! It’s all in good fun!

Bosuke: So you say that a Slowpoke is chosen to be a Watcher, and then that Slowpoke evolves into a Slowking. Though what happens if a Slowpoke accidentally evolves into a Slowking?

Oh, don’t worry. There are never any accidents! We make sure to have only one King’s Rock at a time during each Watcher Crowning Ceremony. How it works is that the next Watcher-to-be chooses a trusted family member or close friend to find and bring back a King’s Rock. Any Pokémon in the currently living in the village that is not a Slowpoke, Poliwhirl, or Slowking is eligible to be chosen to find the item, and you’re basically given as much time as you need. They’re hard to find, so it’ll usually take a while.

Since my older sister happened to be chosen to become the next Watcher, she picked me to go and find a King’s Rock for her!

Er… Well, I was her second choice… My brother was the first pick, but he has guard duties, so, naturally… I was the next best choice? Admittedly, I’m not entirely reliable person with this sort of stuff. She chose me hoping it would help me be more responsible and independent. I’m not going to let her down, though!

The Slowking that oversee everything are known to the rest of us as Watchers. There can only be one Watcher at a time, however, so once a new one is chosen, the previous Watcher retires into a council of Slowking of whom were also Watchers at some given point. They and the current Watcher tend to discuss, uh... Um...

...W-well, I don’t quite know what they discuss, myself. I, ah... I hope I am explaining this correctly...?

All I really know is that the Watcher and council’s main duty is to ensure the safety of the village. Oh! Did I mention it was a village before? Yes, and it’s not only just us Slowpoke, Slowbro, and Slowking. It used to be, but I had heard that many years ago different Pokémon were accepted into the village as well. Though not very many. They were more of, uh, special invitations? It’s still sort of that way. But diversity is nice, however small it may be...!

I mean, to be fair, being a young Slowpoke living around many Slowbro and few - albeit still considerably rare - Slowking, it would be pretty reasonable to wish for evolution at some point, yes? In fact, I’m sure all young Pokémon think this at some point. Clearly you have at some point, as well!

And, if I recall correctly, I believe I mentioned I was asleep during my own evolution... So! I did not feel a thing myself, ahaha...!

Actually, speaking of that, even if I were awake, I probably still wouldn’t have felt any pain - at least not right away. You see, our species tend to react very...slowly...to many things, such as pain; hence our name! Many believe that because we don’t react to pain and such immediately, that we’re too “dumb” or “dense” to realize we’ve been hurt at all. Truthfully, though, we are just slow to the reaction of it is all. Since our pain receptors tend to not react immediately, our species is relatively tolerant to pain, depending on the severity of course.

However, others still tend to be insensitive to our feelings and still refer to us as such. Since we’re “slow” that means to them we’re “dopey,” when that really isn’t the case. It’s actually quite hurtful...
