Genshin Impact Fic Prompt #1 Kaether

A Kaether slow burn fic, where the longer they spend time together Kaeya starts being less overly cocky and his snarky grins to Aether become soft smiles, and the confident glint in his eyes softens. He begins to miss Aether when he leaves for Liyue, but is ultimately happy that Aether still comes back to Mondstadt. He never verbally says how he cares, but Diluc and Jean and Lisa can all very much tell that Kaeya is falling in love with Aether. It becomes a sad sort of dance, or a waltz, if you would.

I have two endings in mind, one where Diluc is fed up with his brothers pining over Aether and makes him confess, a happy ending.

The second, Aether leaves for Inazuma, and doesn't return to Mondstadt, and Kaeya is left yearning for Aether. Their dancing around each other has finally come to an end, and Kaeya still loves Aether, yet Aether is gone; On the run from the Raiden Shogun, and can't return to Kaeya.

The Growing Relationship

Make sure the reasons your characters don't get together right away makes sense. It doesn't need to be realistic, but it needs to be believable.

Focus on how their relationship grows. Spend time on the meeting, the getting to know each other, the subtle moments and big moments that draw them to each other. There will be obstacles, arguments, and conflicts to solve.

Make the development of the relationship natural for the characters.

Start as far back in their relationship as you can. This will allow the longest amount of time for their relationship to be exploired in the story. If it fits, you can start when they first meet. Of course, if it doesn't fit your story, you can start later in their relationship.

Build the Tension

You want your readers to be on the edge of their seats when it comes to your character's relationship. They should be screaming "just kiss already!"

Add near-miss moments. An almost kiss interrupted by a phone call. A hug that lasts just a moment too long.

Add little indications of feelings. Soft Smiles. Winking. The brush of a finger. Lingering glances.

Pining. Give insights into your character's thoughts. Constant thoughts about the other person. Butterflies when they think about them. The anticipation.

Slow Burn, Not Slow Pace

There needs to be other plot points happening while the romantic tension is building. Your characters should be dealing with other situations while they are also pining after each other.

Outside Forces

Slowburns are not always endless pining and dancing around one another. Sometimes, there are outside forces that are keeping characters apart when they already realize that the feelings are mutual.

Examples: Distance between the characters, health/mental health reasons, job/work complications, family dynamics, character goals, characters are on two different sides of a conflict, etc.

What are reasons for characters to slow dance? I mean it's not the prom and they're not royalty at a ball... so what to do? I love the slow dancing trope, especially if it's too a special song, but when do people actually slow dance? This is coming from someone who has no night life or social life but the people I write about do. So do you have any good reasons for a slow dance scene?

there needs to be a word for when you want the slow burn to be very slow, where the two characters spend about 50 chapters as enemies who hurt each other despite the clear homoerotic tension and the evidence of protectiveness / possessiveness between them, and at the same time you just want them to fuck nasty and then cuddle and also be disgustingly domestic afterwards. is that too much to ask for?

Danny reflects back on his life, staring at his partner, how Freakshow had gotten him into this Circus in the first place.

"Where would we go?" He relents, grasping the offered hand to hold it simply. The weight of the appendage is calming for his racing heart.

'Gray' softens, leaning against him. Their outfifs– tight on their bodies, colourful for the eyes of the people. Ruffles, dark and gooey to fit the theme of the circus, showing more skin than comfortable– it was home.

After so long, it had become home and Danny isn't sure if he could leave it.

(Is that how Freakshow never lost any workers even after his staff broke? Did they become dependent on him just as he has?)

"Everywhere." His performance partner replies, reassures with his presence and Danny soaks it in.

They would move tomorrow, but 'Gray' would not come along.

personal opinion (because this is a conversation I had with my friend) but slow burn can be one shots too. slow burn doesn't have to be exclusive to only multi-chapter works with 50k+ words.

it depends on how you plan your story. if your work is a one shot with 3,000 words in total and the main characters spend about 2,800 words being enemies before they confess their love to each other in those last 200 words, then I consider that a slow burn.

the same can be applied to a fic that is 30 chapter long with 100,000 words too. if the main characters fall in love after only 2 chapters, 6,000 words in then I won't call that a slow burn.

my point, slow burn has more to do with how the story / relationship is planned out throughout the entire work and less to do with word count or how many chapters a fic has. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

. An irl slow burn enemies-to-lovers romance between Jazz and the local crime lord, and all of Crime Ally is enjoying it.

. Dan and Dani go to Gotham Academy. They're in the same class as Damian. Dan calls Danny Mom and Dani calls him Dad (this is important). The three of them + one other poor soul get put in a project together. Chaos ensues.

In the polished, high-stakes corridors of the IPC, where risk was currency and loyalty was fleeting, your favorite pastime had recently taken an unexpected turn: chasing after Aventurine with an arsenal of cute animal stickers. It was perhaps childish and silly, especially in a world of cold calculations and ruthless ambition, but something about seeing his refined face adorned with cartoon bunnies and glittery foxes felt irresistible. So, you made it your mission.

Today, as you waited in his office doorway, Aventurine had already caught sight of the stickers in your hands. “I think not.” he murmured with a smirk, adjusting his glasses just enough to peer over them. His eyes sparkled with mirth – and a hint of a challenge.

“Oh, come on, Aven. You’ve dodged this long enough.”

With that, you lunged forward, arms outstretched. He sidestepped gracefully, turning his head just enough for a perfectly timed eye roll.

But you were not giving up that easily.

Determined, you took a quicker step, reaching for his shoulder. Aventurine slipped aside, chuckling at your determination, but you pivoted faster this time, grazing the fabric of his dark green shirt. He spun around, his breath hitching, and you couldn’t help but smile victoriously, eyes gleaming with mischief.

“Gotcha!”

Or at least, that’s what you thought.

Because in the very next second, your foot caught on the edge of his office rug, sending you tumbling forward. Aventurine reached out, hands instinctively catching your shoulders as you both toppled to the ground. You landed against his chest with a thud, laughter bubbling up before you even realized how close you were. In the heat of the moment, your noses brushed, and, as though straight out of some romantic cliché, your lips collided with his.

Boom.

The world stilled, both of you frozen in place. His hand, which had been on your shoulder, seemed to linger there for a moment longer than necessary. You felt his breath, warm and quick against your lips, mingling with your own in the awkward quiet that followed.

Aventurine was the first to break the silence. “Well,” he murmured, a soft laugh ghosting over your skin. “I’ll admit, that was an unexpected… strategy.”

You leaned back, your cheeks flushing as you scrambled to sit up, but his hand moved to steady you, his fingers lingering in a way that sent your heart racing. His smile was as charming as ever, but there was something softer there, a warmth that replaced his usual air of suave nonchalance.

“Maybe I’ll consider those stickers after all,” he said, his voice dropping just a little lower. “But only if they’re…” He tilted his head, looking at you with that trademark sparkle. “Exclusively applied by you.”

You couldn't hold back a laugh, still feeling a bit dizzy from the fall – and from him, so close. “Well, only if you promise to stop dodging next time.”

He smirked, the corners of his mouth curving into a smile that was both challenging and endearing. “Perhaps I’ve grown a bit fond of this game.” He shifted slightly, his gaze holding yours with an intensity that sent a delightful shiver down your spine. “Care to make it a… regular occurrence?”

With a teasing grin, you held up the sheet of stickers again. “I’ll consider it. But next time, don’t blame me if I bring the glitter ones.”

Aventurine chuckled, his eyes never leaving yours. "I'll take my chances."

And for once, it didn’t feel like either of you was bluffing.

Story idea

So simi beginning days of Fiddleford working for Stanford, Fids gets a call letting him know that his wife died in an accident, so he's gone for a chunk and when he can come back he's basically having some friends staying at his place to take care of it while he's bringing Tate with him to Gravity falls to "temporary" live there.

Around the time Fiddleford gets back, Stanley stumbles into Gravity Falls as a recently turned werewolf, so Ford is keeping him around to take notes on while his twin is adjusting.

After a bit Stan starts splitting his time between taking care of the nerds and child and working odd jobs around town.

Taking care of them: cleaning up the place, sometimes cooking meals, occasionally reminding Fiddleford to eat, forcing Ford to take a moment to eat and drink something and of course looking after Tate for part of the day.

As Stan adjusts and gains control of being a werewolf, he's got a pack mentality that's starting to form. There's no leader in that dynamic, but there is a pack pup, so he cares about Tate a bit more than he would normally. At one point, something tries hurting the kid (in sight of Fids), and Stan gets there to protect him before Fiddleford can.

He's using part of the bunker as a safe place to spend the full moon before he gains control.

It could be cute that after Stan gains control, he's a cuddly wolf to his human pack.

The romance part is spawned from both of them loving/coming to love Tate as their child. (Probably an angle that's not written much about aside from romances that are more typically between parent and teacher of said child.)

To Stan, Tate becomes as good as his pup over time, while he's at times trying to wrangle his instincts and not step on Fiddleford's toes when it comes to taking care of the kid.

On Stan's side of things, his instincts are nudging him to care for the parent of his claimed pup on top of noticing he's easy on the eyes and they can talk about robots for a while

On Fiddleford's side, there's a more muscled and more outgoing guy that looks like his best friend who keeps caring for his kid while he works and they can hold a conversation for several hours about some of his favorite things, especially talking about Tate.
