Mr slocum, have you ever experimented with the cooking oil you use for your donuts? Because I do wonder how certain types of oil would affect the taste.

That's an excellent question. In the pre-war days, we used coconut oil: 1. because it smelled nice; 2. because we could charge more for our doughnuts on account of those darn supply issues. Nowadays, we use whatever cooking oil we can salvage or manufacture in-house, mostly corn oil. But for all that I've listed, the doughnuts have to be watched constantly, or else they'll burn.

My BDay came up this last week and we had a Fallout Themed party!

Made lots of wasteland food, nuka-cola from scratch, and spent extra time making props- boxes, cans, labels, and most important- caps!

Lineup was pretty big, but it was blast, the food came out yummy, and the aesthetic was on point 👌🏻

Spent pretty my entire first day of vacation making recipes from the official Fallout cookbook! Got some Slocum's Buzzbites, coffee cream filled donuts with cinnamon sugar coating. And then some Nuka Cola Quantum! Today I'll be making some BlamCo Mac & Cheese.

Eventually some ghoul offers you 400 caps to go find the last remaining serving of the BreadCo.™ Jazzy Lemon Beverage™ which is hidden in a freezer in a basement somewhere because like, yeah ok sure some people ~died~ but also he had some back before the war and it was sooooooo good that he just can't stop thinking about it and is willing to risk it.

Cannot emphasize enough how much the Panera caffeinated lemonade sounds like a Fallout bit

What are your characters favorite foods? <3

I'm dividing these into settings 💞

Oracle:

1. Jelani: huge fan of sushi and a total slut for cherries. They love cherry flavored slushies. Loves cherry flavored blood lollipops (I may have to explain this lmao).

2. Angelus: it's not a fan of food, it has a pretty bad relationship with food but will never say no to dumplings (both fried or steamed though it prefers steamed) and noodles. Cream soda is his favorite drink followed by energy drinks. Favorite fruits are raspberries. Likes raspberry flavored blood lollipops.

3. Loke: like his brother he likes food. His very favorite is pizza and cheeseburgers. Will happily eat his weight in mangoes. Coffee! Lots of coffee! Coffee! As well as sweet teas his husband makes.

Skyrim:

1. Jelani: blood. He's a vampire that's all he can eat and drink now. It used to be beef and ash yam stew and loved honey nut treats because of the crunch. He wasn't into any type of alcohol. Water and juice for him.

2. Angelus: he's a pescatarian that leans more heavily on a vegetarian diet. And no, he's not one of those bleeding heart "oh, please don't kill animals for food, that's abuse" asswipes. He was just raised that way. His absolute favorite dish is potato soup with some lavender dumplings, will eat his weight (lol twink ass motherfucker) in sweets, his favorite is juniper berry crostata and will often be found indulging on expensive wines and other expensive alcoholic drinks (he's a rich little snob, what did you expect?). Ever since he joined the family he's become a huge fan of tea particularly tea made by Uthorim.

3. Loke: beef and ash yam stew. Not too crazy about sweets though he'll happily indulge in berries as a treat. Angelus introduced him to lavender dumplings though and quickly got hooked. Will drink any alcoholic drink and LOVES tea made by his husband.

Fallout:

1. Jelani: his appetite isn't what it used to be, it's a miracle if he takes more than 5 bites out of a meal and food's kind of become a sort of second thought for him. He does like noodles (because of something between him and Angelus) and grilled radstag with veggies. Favorite thing to drink is Nuka-Cherry, used to love drinking alcohol but stopped drinking it all together after he reunited with Loke and Uthorim. Has a serious sentimental attachment to gumdrops. Likes tea because it tastes good and for sentimental reasons that have a lot to do with Uthorim.

2. Angelus: food is his favorite food. He loves food, loves to eat. Think the only reasons he's a skinny ass twink is genetics and moves around a lot. Goes feral for noodles. Hates vegetables. Favorite drink is Nuka-Quantom. Loves any and all sweets and candies and is often seen chewing gum.

3. Loke: Ribeye steak, fried egg (from any critter) and a lot of veggies on the side. Not a fan of seafood. Loves cotton candy bites as well as Slocum's BuzzBites. Will drink any and all alcohol but coffee is his second favorite drink. Sweet teas that his husband makes are his absolute favorite!

Oh no this is tough. Honestly, probably Nuka Cola since it’s such an iconic part of the game, but if I were to choose anything else, it would be the Slocum’s Buzzbites! I’m a sucker for donuts. What about you?

🍄 What are your OCs favourite snacks? Their favourite comfort food which always cheers them up when they’re down? Favourite meal to make? Do they enjoy baking and cooking and are they any good in the kitchen?       Pre-war, he really enjoyed Slocum’s Joe donuts. He LOVES coffee and donuts. Post-war, I think... like considering how unrealistic all that prewar food being around and still good after soooooo many years, his favorite would be something he makes himself in my fic, cake/cupcakes made with a type of razorgrain hubflower white cake with a honey hubflower icing. But, he also found those buzzbites, and again he LOVES coffee and donuts so like... a donut.. filled with coffee... Literally heaven. He ofc got the resippy from the Slocum’s hq, and he tweaks it a bit to make it easier to make post-war and makes them for himself and Nick whenever they’re at home ♥         Those honey-hubflower cakes would also be his favorite comfort food, a lot of the comfort comes from his love of baking, and that he loves his garden, loves foraging, and loves doing all these things with Nick, so its just all wonderful for him. Besides, baking cupcakes and enjoying them with the love of your life at home on nice rainy afternoons is always comforting.       A favorite meal of his is just some pan fried carrots, tatos, mushrooms, silt beans, and a little mutfruit tossed in near the end somtimes. Everyone loves a little veggie hash. His favorite veggie is mushrooms, though.... would mushrooms be considered veggies...? Either way he eats a lot of them.       He loves baking and cooking, though he enjoys baking a lot more. Nick is a better cook, Jay is a better baker. Sure neither of them need to eat, but its a big comfort and he almost always shares with Blake and his family and his other friends. They also often make/take food to Ellie, and even Solara when they can catch her

This one took a little while. (I’m not listing chems, ingredients (like flowers,) or drinks.) I don’t have reasoning for every single one, but here we go:

Moldy food - Food that’s had, what, 210 years to rot? Gag.

Brain fungus - texture. Nope

Food paste - It’s ‘completely devoid of flavor’ ‘turns skin pink’ ‘has psychological effects.’ Oh, and if you shoot it, it bleeds.

Glowing fungus - I don’t like mushrooms. These seem like mushrooms with radiation illness, so... pass.

Blood pack - it’s.. it’s blood. We don’t know anything about where it’s from, and how long it’s been there. No thanks

Irradiated blood - See ‘blood pack’

important headcanons to consider: Hancock

can they use chopsticks?: He actually can, but it took a lot of practice. It’s his preferred method of eating Noodle Cups, especially at Takahashi’s.

what do they do when they cant sleep?: Chems, booze, or hook ups. Sometimes two or more at once. He has a bit if chronic insomnia, even without the guilt of the things he’s done in the past, and if the chems, booze, or sex doesn’t work, he’ll grab something to read until he bores himself to sleep, like Picket Fences or Total Hack.

what would they impulse buy at the grocery store?: There’s not really anything he WOULDN’T impulse buy, if he was high enough, but it’s hard for him to resist candy, or issues of comics he’s been looking for.

what order do they wash things in the shower?: When he had hair, that was always first- when he had the luxury of a shower. These days he mostly just dips himself in the cleanest body of water he can find or stands out in the rain a while. 

what’s their coffee order?: He’s never had anything but Slocum Joe’s Buzzbites, but he’d probably enjoy flavored coffee, especially for the novelty of it. 

what sort of apps would they have on their smartphone?: Assuming he had a phone, it would probably have lot of games, especially retro ones like Red Menace(Donkey Kong), and something for music, maybe some kind of ebook reader for his comics and magazines.

how do they act around children?: Hancock can be little awkward around children, not entirely sure how to act around them, but he’s gentle and warm, and will happily join them in any games they want to rope him into.

what would they watch on tv when they’re bored and nothing they really like is on?: Mmmmmmmmmmmmm In time travelling verses, he’d probably gravitate towards channels that play retro shows and movies for the nostalgia of it. Otherwise he might toss on like, home improvement/buying/etc shows and use them for background noise and to drool over pretty rooms.

Say, how many BuzzBites does your Slocum's Joe BuzzBites recipe make, anyway?

Goodness, that recipe of mine has been making the rounds lately, hasn't it?As I recall, that recipe was specifically scaled to only make 4 - 6 donuts, as I was effectively making a test batch for myself at the time of writing and didn't want a bunch of wasted dough. It should be easy enough to scale up for a full dozen if need be.
