Anyway, my question: do you fence? Your duel scene absolutely captured the quickness and wit and elegance of fencing and made me look at magical duels in a completely different way!

This is probably the most flattering compliment I could get about my dueling scenes. The answer is yes, but I only did it briefly, and a long time ago, so my knowledge is heavily weighted towards vocabulary over practice. I know what things are called, but I was never good enough to get to the higher levels of strategy & technique, so a lot of that bit is spun from whole-cloth. I also follow the advice of a writer whose name I've forgotten, but he basically said that young writers get hung up too much on blow-by-blow action, and forget that they're not choreographing a movie, they're writing a scene — you don't need to describe every move if you can capture how it feels. So I tried to capture the feeling of fencing, which was a high-energy kind of antagonistic dancing.

sometimes in of stitches in sequence stuff ill accidentally write isabeau mentioning loop having a mouth (i.e. "they open their mouth to speak"). and at first i felt really silly when i made those slip ups?

but to be honest? i think it feels in character. the more i sit with it the more it works. no loop doesnt actually have a mouth, but as isa gets more and more used to their presence he gets better and better at reading them. so they might not actually "open their mouth to speak", but he might still understand, instinctively, that its something they would be doing.
