what do you recommend in a harness for cats?
it really depends on the cat. Yardstick is missing one of his feet and is very sensitive about extra weight on his back, so I wanted an extremely lightweight harness. I'm not too worried about him wriggling loose because he's got a pretty good recall, so I was willing to sacrifice escape proof for lightweight. I use a Come With Me Kitty harness for Yardstick. I've been keeping an eye on the leather OutBound cat harnesses, though!
For a cat that's more prone to wiggling, it's better to opt for something more secure, like a jacket harness. Sleepypod and kitty holster are both very popular for cats that are better escape artists than Yardstick.

Rufflands are crash tested right? Do you like yours?
Arthur can no longer fit comfortably in my midsize Ruffland and he's looking pretty big in the medium, which is supposed to be his Big Boy car crate. 😨
Damn I might end up having to buy a second intermediate for this guy. I was so sure a Cocker would fit well in a medium. But he is going to be on the upper end of size (which is good btw because breeding them too small is a Problem in the breed rn so a large stud would be good). So man he might end up needing the next size kennel. I guess we'll have to wait and see though. He probably won't get too much longer, might get a bit taller.
At least if I have to buy another one I could get one of the bright colours! I think they're so cute. All my Rufflands are white, but they don't make the white anymore, so since a new one wouldn't match anyway I might as well get a coloured one. I like the Malibu blue they did before. Or if they come out with yellow. Or even the orange is nice.
#whim fits in her sleepypod ok but i have yet to acquire a good car kennel for Biscuit#rn she's just in a standard travel crate i picked up at a pet store

Working on getting used to a new mode for car transportation. Nico is 12 lbs and tiny, too tiny for a crash-tested car harness. While an Impact or Gunner crate is probably the safest option, I don't have that kind of money. So we're going with a sleepypod car carrier that did well on all its safety tests. He can be comfortable and safe in this, at least as safe as i can get without breaking the budget too badly.
Currently we're working on getting used to this brand new device and feeling safe being put into it. We haven't quite gotten up to shutting it but he is comfortable being put all the way in now. Hopefully he'll be good within the next couple of weeks.

Today I have biothane safety collars that are supposed to be coming in with everyone's name plates riveted on and I am Impatient because I Want to See.
Also Tilda is officially 31 pounds at just under six months. I keep watching her and going "okay, grow a little bigger..." because she doesn't quite fit the Medium red Sleepypod Terrain yet that is supposed to be her big girl seatbelt and is stuck borrowing Tribble's Sport until it's not too big, and I would really rather like to not have to go to the hassle of admitting defeat and returning it to get her a Small. So. Just a TINY BIT bigger....
(She was the littlest puppy in her litter, I'm not surprised to find her coming in at the smaller end of standard, but cmon baby it will make my life more convenient if you just grow a tiny bit more here...)

The Best Backpack Pet Carriers for Cats: Travel Made Easy
Introduction
Traveling with your feline friend can be a rewarding experience, but it can also present unique challenges. One solution that has gained popularity among cat owners is the backpack pet carrier. These versatile and convenient carriers allow you to keep your cat close while leaving your hands free to navigate your surroundings. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the benefits of backpack pet carrier for cats, discuss the key features to consider, and highlight some of the best options available on the Australian market.
The Advantages of Backpack Pet Carriers
Hands-Free Convenience
Backpack pet carriers enable you to transport your cat without the need to carry a bulky crate or struggle with a handheld carrier. This hands-free design allows you to move freely, whether you're navigating crowded airports, hiking scenic trails, or simply running errands around town.
Increased Comfort for Your Cat
Backpack carriers provide a cozy, secure space for your cat to relax during the journey. The ergonomic design and padded straps distribute the weight evenly, ensuring your cat's comfort and minimizing stress.
Enhanced Bonding
By keeping your cat close to your body, backpack carriers can foster a stronger bond between you and your feline companion. This proximity can be especially beneficial for anxious or shy cats, who may find comfort in your presence during the travel experience.
Versatility and Accessibility
Backpack carriers are designed to be used in a variety of settings, from airports and public transportation to hiking trails and outdoor adventures. Their compact size and easy accessibility make them a practical choice for a wide range of travel scenarios.
Key Features to Consider
Ventilation and Air Flow
Proper ventilation is crucial to ensure your cat's comfort and well-being during the journey. Look for backpack carriers with mesh panels, windows, or other air circulation features to keep your cat cool and prevent overheating.
Structural Integrity and Durability
Opt for a backpack carrier constructed with high-quality materials, such as reinforced fabric or rigid frames, to ensure it can withstand the demands of frequent use and travel.
Secure Closure and Escape Prevention
Ensuring your cat remains safely inside the carrier is paramount. Look for backpack carriers with sturdy zippers, locking mechanisms, or other secure closure systems to prevent your feline friend from escaping.
Comfort and Adjustability
The backpack should feature padded shoulder straps, a breathable back panel, and adjustable features to ensure a comfortable fit for both you and your cat.
Compliance with Travel Regulations
If you plan to travel by air, make sure the backpack carrier meets the size and weight requirements set by the airline. This will help avoid any issues or delays during the boarding process.
Additional Storage Space
Some backpack carriers offer additional storage compartments or pockets, allowing you to pack essentials like food, water, and toys for your cat's comfort and convenience.

Acclimate Your Cat to the Backpack: Set up the backpack carrier in a familiar area of your home and encourage your cat to explore it. Offer treats and praise when they interact with the carrier positively.
Practice Short Trips: Take your cat on brief, positive trips in the backpack, such as to the veterinarian or a friend's house. This will help your cat associate the carrier with pleasant experiences.
Provide Familiar Scents and Comfort Items: Include a piece of clothing or a familiar toy in the backpack to help your cat feel more at ease and secure.
Maintain a Calm and Reassuring Presence: During the actual travel, remain calm and offer your cat gentle reassurance and praise to help them feel safe and secure.
Prioritize Your Cat's Comfort: Ensure your cat has access to water, treats, and any necessary medications or supplies during the journey.
Conclusion
Backpack pet carriers offer a convenient and comfortable solution for traveling with your feline friend in Australia. By considering factors such as ventilation, structural integrity, and compliance with travel regulations, you can select a backpack carrier that meets your cat's individual needs and provides a stress-free journey. Whether you're navigating busy city streets, exploring the great outdoors, or flying to your next destination, a high-quality backpack carrier can help you and your cat enjoy the adventure together. At Mischief's appt and my sis is in the car with Zeya (I didn't want to be stressed about time and she isn't ready to be in the kennel for hours at a time) and I can't handle this cuteness.
She is obviously not up here when the car is moving, she has Mischief's old seatbelt set up until she fits in one of the sleepypods we have..

Nice, been looking for a solution for travelling in a car without owning a car. Especially since everything I own need to fit into a carry-on and one or two checked luggage. I know Sleepypod is independently verified, but a lot of the other manufacturers with in-house testing don't pass the independent tests. I like Hurtta as a brand.
