Here's a small TEAM SLAY-BELLS Dev Update:

I gotta check in on Slaybel and Slipper, I know there's been some backstory changes lately and am very very curious.

Thank you! I am going to give you a Lengthy Summary of the backstory, because I can.

So on the surface it looks pretty similar to my previous version (which I may or may not have described before). As follows:

Dipper, twelve, alone, wakes up in some kind of safe house. His parents have just been killed by vampires and a teenage girl busted in and saved him just as the vampires were about to turn him. He was taken away from the house and fell asleep somewhere en route, exhausted.

Someone comes in and tells him he's being relocated to foster home in a different town for his own safety, since he has no relatives to go to.

Either during this conversation or at some later point where he's slipped out of his room, Dipper has a run-in with a strange six-fingered man who wants to know about the vampire attack. Dipper's memories of it are fuzzy, and it's only after prompting that he remembers the lead vampire called him "Slayer's twin" and said something about a prophecy right before the older girl staked him. Six-fingered man writes all of this down, looking concerned.

They have a little more conversation. Ford gives him more info than anyone else has about Slayers and Watchers, but then someone else comes in and Dipper's getting shipped off.

Dipper starts journaling in imitation of Ford, because I love Dipper's journal-writing and I think it's a fun narrative tool.

Bothered by that "Slayer's twin" bit and by various odd feelings/dreams that he's missing something, Dipper goes Kid Detective in his new home and starts trying to track down vampire activity. After several months, he spots the Slayer again, and manages to trace her to her base of operations. Somehow he gets in there and finds Watcher info on him. (I DON'T know how. He may need help.)

Finds out he has a twin sister. Being raised by the Watchers.

Finds out where she lives and sneaks in to see her. They bond immediately. There's an Awkward Sibling Hug. (WITH the pats. The pats happen spontaneously. Maybe it's something they did as toddlers? They're really not sure when Mabel was taken.)

Mabel hides him for a day or two, but then they get caught. Brought before the Watchers' Council (American subsection) to figure out what to do with them.

Turns out not only is Mabel a Potential Slayer, there are prophecies about things happening when a Slayer has a twin. Apparently Dipper would share some of her powers and that could lead to very good or very bad things happening down the line. The Watchers have been trying to figure out how to control the situation - at first they were trying to cut Dipper loose from the equation but, well, that's not happening. So is it safer to train them for Slayerhood together or separately?

There are factions for each position. Dipper and Mabel obviously want to stick together, but they don't get a vote.

Finally the "separation" spokesman argues "and anyway, are any of you prepared to train two children at once, with different needs and regimens? It's not fair to make the girl's Watcher take on a second charge against his will"

And Ford breaks his pen against the table and goes "If that's your biggest problem, I'LL take them."

This takes the wind out of the opposition's sails. Ford "has only ever done research, never trained a kid in his life" Pines is ADAMANT that he'll take them. Everyone else just ends up glad to be done with the issue.

(Ford spoke up because raising twins separately is Wrong and Unthinkable. Not that he'd say that part out loud.)

They become Ford's charges. Dipper is very bristly and defensive at first even though Ford is really cool and smart and willing to teach him all this stuff. Mabel is more willing to make friends. Over time, they all sort out that they're on the same side.

There is more to the backstory but it's a Twist, and I keep going back and forth on whether to add it here. Might put it in a reblog? Under a readmore? Or might save it for the hypothetical time when I have this written out into a full draft.

Hog desperately needed a Christmas outfit, and I needed to draw him(he’s my favorite Exe, thanks to a brainrot in March). Most other EXE characters usually have Xmas alternatives, and Hog is also featured in Armydillo’s Slaybells Mix. So take a wild guess what I did here.

A Lord X outfit design that’s supposed to go alongside my homie @disnuggetsartblog’s Santa Majin design.

I kept the typical Slaybell design for X, only making a few tweaks to it, and created an addition to it: the Krampus form. Krampus X is based on Lord X’s early 2020 “satanic/demonic” form he takes in the original Sonic PC Port game. Note that it’s just X’s way of mocking religion. He is still a goofy alien.

If you want to use/draw the design, go ahead! Just credit me please!

Next up: New Year's Evil #1 (2019)

I'm...not expecting a lot. Ugh I hate villain-heavy event comics.

The Amateur - Joker. There's a Joker copycat villain. Joker, annoyed, goes and tracks him down (and kills him).

Slaybells Ring - Toyman. Toyman attacks the "Annual Winter Holiday Parade" (could this name be more generic) with action figure robots of Kyle Rayner Green Lantern, Superman Electric Blue, and...I think it's the Batman Who Laughs, but design's a bit weird.

Superman gets captured, a kid tells Toyman he hates his action figures and helps break Toyman's robotics (which upsets me deeply, as Toyman shows off an excellent Connor Hawke action figure, who was non-existent in this period, I don't like this commentary), and then Superman flies away carrying the float sleigh as DC can never avoid having that panel if at all possible.

Clearly the most important part of this story is the Kord logo, which I hadn't noticed before. It's a bug!

Bright & Terrible - Sinestro. Sinestro returns to a planet that is worshipping him from a previous visit while a Green Lantern, but the high priest is stealing the offerings. This annoys Sinestro so he shows up, awes everyone, and preaches a new sermon on his philosophy.

Auld Lang Ivy - Poison Ivy. Ivy goes to a (C-List) villains bar on New Year's Eve and regards everyone else as pathetic. She ends up pheromoning Penguin, Orca and The Abacus as a New Year's good deed to help them start their New Year's resolutions. Then the Abacus hits on Ivy and she dissects him.

Winter's Root - Ares. Ares tries to peer-pressure Diana into using a sword and spill his blood (it works) as a sacrifice to Morea, who was a lover of his who he turned into a tree to punish her. Her roots have to be watered with the blood of war to keep her alive (she will not transform back until "the blood of war runs like a river for your roots").

A Coal in My Stocking - Black Adam. OOOH REAL SANTA TIME (or "Ni'klaus of Myra"). Black Adam is talking to a kid called Antalya in Kahndaq, who was an orphan in New York and now misses Santa and wonders if he'll make it to Kahndaq to deliver presents. Black Adam goes to bully this 'Wizard', Ni'klaus of Myra, and demand he deliver presents to all the children of Kahndaq this year...and he'll take coal if necessary in exchange.

New Year, New You - Calendar Man. Calendar Man manipulates the new psychiatrist at Arkham into getting the inmates to turn over New Year's Resolutions in a way that starts a riot. When he tries to escape? Batman turns up and punches him in the face.

Father Christmas - Chronos. Chronos desperately tries to make his father be a good dad and bring him a Christmas present as a kid, to try and avert his growing up to be a villain. It doesn't work.

...And a Prankster New Year! - Prankster. Prankster arranges an end of year party for his employees.

Little Christmas Tree - Harley Quinn. As a thank you for getting Harley released as she was incorrectly arrested, Harley harasses Renee Montoya, who is very much wanting to just quietly miss Kate Kane in private. (Or as Harley puts it, everyone needs someone to spend time with and appreciate them).

Hello! I stumbled across your SlayerMabel AU fic and it has me by the throat. I have such a bad feeling that Stan is a vampire...

But genuinely, thank you for this ask! Very happy to hear you like this AU - it's a dormant idea for me right now, but one I'm fond of.

You are DEFINITELY on the right track. My imagination here is that Something Bad still happened in 1982 but, you know. In this universe the Bad Thing that happens to people is vampires. Or hell dimensions but that's less fun in this case ;P And in this case the twin it happened to was Stan.

I don't think Ford knows this was the result - even if he was involved in the 1982 incident, which seems likely - because I find it very hard to picture any Ford just going on with life if he knows Stan is undead. But he may get a surprise if a new vampire with a familiar face comes to town, hunting his Slayer Twins...

(It'll all be fine IN THE END because I can't do horrible things to the Pines family for too long. But there would be Drama before then.)

I think the idea shaped up this way because Ford's such a good candidate for a Watcher that he had to be the one taking care of the kids, which made this a roleswap AU, which meant Stan now had to be lost somehow. And, again, in this universe vampires are one of the prime candidates for Terrible Fates.
