The phone on the kitchen countertop made you jump as it sang a repeating melody. You got up hesitantly, averting your eyes from the slasher flic playing to look at the ringing house phone.

You got up and answered it, putting it under your hair and speaking into it. “L/n residents.”

“Hello?” A deep raspy voice replied.

“Hi?” You raised a brow in confusion.

“Who is this?” The voice asked.

“I think I should be the one asking you that.” You smirked. “Who are you trying to reach?” You walked back over to the couch and sat down on it, continuing to watch your movie.

“What number is this?” The deep voice sounded mockingly curious.

“What number are you trying to reach?” You asked, cocking a brow.

“I don’t know.” The male responded.

“Hmm. There’s not much I can do for you then.” You smirked.

“Have a good day.” You we’re about to hang up, when the voice spoke up once more.

“Wait! What’s your name?” He asked.

“If you tell me yours I’ll tell you mine.” You smirked teasingly.

“Oh come on, I just wanna know who I’m looking at.” The voice said eerily, and suddenly the atmosphere was a lot more ominous than before.

You raised a brow. “So you’re looking at me?” You asked, assuming it was just a sick joke.

“What?” The voice asked, sounding surprised.

This made you smirk. “What do you think? Am I pretty?” You asked jokingly.

“I dunno, why don’t I come out to get a closer look?” They asked.

“Do it, then.” You smiled.

Suddenly, the closet to the left of you bursted open, revealing a man in a black cloak and a mask with a permanent scream.

Your eyes widened, as your head screamed at you to run but you couldn’t. Your feet were planted as you both started at eachother.

Something shiny flashed in his right hand, and you looked down, seeing a good sized hunting knife. He launched at you, forcing you to quickly move out of the way and make a run for it.

You headed for the back door that was stupidly wide-open. You felt the masked man grab you by your hoodie, and pull you back violently. You slammed to the floor as he ran to get on top of you. Your head throbbed as a streak of blood fell from your forehead and nose. You turned around and lied on your back as he got on you, each leg on either side of your waist.

You weren’t scared, and you didn’t look scared.

This confused the masked man.

You too stared at eachother as he was on top of you. You gently raised your hand to lift up his mask.

He grabbed your wrist softly, before bringing his other hand up to lift his mask up slightly. His mask was lifted up only enough to reveal his mouth.

He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to your mouth, and you melted into his touch. You leaned into him, attempting to make the kiss last longer, but he pulled his mask back down and stood up. He nodded at you, before turning and disappearing into the darkness of your back-yard. You touched your lips and smiled to yourself.

Ok I think I’ve mentioned a bunch of times that I work in a hardware store and I’m obviously a writer, it’s in my description. But I am here today to advocate for the use of hardware stores as horror settings. No, not, let’s go to the hardware store to buy some weapons or make some traps, a hardware store itself as the whole setting, the story never leaves the hardware store. Because dude, a hardware store is such peak horror setting and y’all don’t even know! (What I’m about to describe applies mainly to my store but also hardware stores in general above a certain size)

After highschool he left town for a while in an attempt to make it big as an actor. While he got a few background roles and one as a supporting character (in a horror movie. His character got killed almost immediately), ultimately he moved back bc he couldn't find anything. He was also homesick lmao

While him and Kevin vaguely knew each other in highschool (Kevin was also in the theater club), it wasn't until after Streber returned that the two became friends and eventually, a couple

They later pooled their money together to go from two shitty apartments to one decent apartment

Streber comforted Kevin a lot when Kevin had his nightmares

Strebs is ambidextrous! Ended up coming in real handy after the Bob incident

Speaking of, his way of dealing with trauma is "if I ignore it it didn't happen". Not really something he can do down an arm tho

So this in turn leads to Streber having his own nightmares bc his brain is still trying to deal with it, and Kevin comforting him (he is very bad at it)

If he gets a prosthetic he later mods it so the fingers are sharp. Claims it's for the aesthetic (and part of it was), but really he wanted a good way to defend himself

When he first met Rick he tried to scare him, and when he showed no reaction Streber made it his mission to scare him, or even just get some emotion from him all

The haunted house was a repurposed abandoned house him and his friends just kinda. Took. No one was using it and it'd been abandoned for ages, so no one cared

Is usually the designated driver for both of his friend groups

Huge Kirby fan! His favorite games are Super Star Ultra and Triple Deluxe, and his favorite abilities are Animal, Mirror, and Circus (more daily-streber thievery with a side helping of projection lol)

Streber has a notebook he'll jot down various ideas and thoughts into. He also doodles in it (I think his artstyle would be similar to those teeny chibi Hatzgang and Bob from Pelo's doodle dumps, with a hint of 2000s webcore)

I really like the headcanon that him and Jack are brothers so here's a bunch just for that skfjnadskjfnkjfn

When they were little they would stay up late and watch horror movies and slasher flics, and then they'd both get nightmares because they really shouldn't have been watching them

One Halloween when Streber was still teeny they dressed up as Andy and Chucky (I like to think Child's Play still exists in this universe bc it's funny). They scared so many people since Streber was a very convincing doll

Stemming from the above, they were partners in crime in pranks! Streber would probably find the corpse prank funny

Streber babysits John's kid sometimes. He enables her mischievous side :)

Do the ROs like scary movies? What’s their favorite? And what are they like when they watch them do they advise/yell at characters, hide under a blanket, just use them as an excuse to get really close, etc.?

Going with the Final Girls ROs for this.

Jannie 🚩 Jannie adoooores horror movies. The gorier the better. But she can't handle thriller type movies that are more psychological then anything. If a movie isn't blood and viscera from start to finish she is just not interested. She is the kind of person who laughs every time the villain kills someone and actively cheers for them to win. Watching a horror movie with her is an experience as she is an edge of her seat, bouncing up and down, giggling manically type that will leave very little time to cuddle.

Kory Horror? NOPE! Hell no! Keep her away from it!! If she does agree to sit down to watch one, and that is a HUGE if expect her to cling to the MC tightly and not let go the entire time. Best bet for her is to have a blanket she can hide under while you protect her from whatever is happening on screen and be prepared to be deaf by the end.

Devon Devon enjoys a good horror movie marathon, but ask her to watch anything past 2000 and you will have a fight on your hands. For the most part she hates modern horror though she does occasionally find one that she can enjoy. Her favorites are Hellraiser 1, 2, and 3 as well as the 2022 remake, Halloween 1 and 2, and Nightmare on Elm Street. She also has a thing for Japanese horror and she believes it is far superior to the majority of western horror. She is the kind of person who ridicules the victims in movies for doing stupid things like splitting up, not paying attention to their surroundings, and having sex when a slasher is on the loose.

Laura 🚩 Like Jannie, Laura simply adores horror movies. However she is the opposite of her in almost every way. While she enjoys a good gore fest as much as the next horror lover she really loves mind benders, thrillers, movies where things are not as they seem. She also enjoys a good possession flic, Jennifer's Body is her absolute favorite in that genre. She enjoys a good snuggle while watching movies but you're in for a hell of a tongue lashing if you talk during the movie.

Same anon as before— I couldn’t stop thinking about Halloween Ends, got pissed, and now I’m making it everyone else’s problem. Halloween Ends felt like David Gordon Green heard all the complaints from the critics who hated Halloween Kills for “just being a film about Michael killing everybody”, ignored the fans who liked it for what it was, and then shat out a movie made for everyone BUT THE ACTUAL FANS OF THE FRANCHISE. I’ll admit, I can’t really comment on the actual quality of the film because I was blinded by rage the whole time, but if it is somehow a good film, it is by no means a good Halloween film. A passable stand-alone, maybe, an okay if not forgettable slasher flic, sure, but an even halfway decent Halloween film it is not. It feels like it was made for people who weren’t already familiar with Halloween, who didn’t care about Michael in the slightest, rather than the people who do. And then you have Halloween Kills. Like, okay. I’ll admit Halloween Kills wasn’t… the best. The script was shaky at best and the hospital scenes were bleh. But when it delivered, holy SHIT did it deliver. It was always destined to be awkward since it was the known middle child of the trilogy, so it spent time on the kills, the MAIN DRAWING POINT OF THE MOVIE. The firefighters, the mob, all the hapless unfortunately souls who happened to become trapped in his path? Every one of those scenes was so fucking good. Was it really that impossible to have Halloween Ends be just… like that???

Also, if your “main antagonist” can get beat up by four band kids even without their instruments (or, get beat up by the person who got beat up by four bands kids, DESPITE being perfectly able to take on an angry mob the film prior), then you know you have a shit antagonist. 

This, this, this, every word of this. Halloween Ends was an okay standalone horror flick, maybe even a meh-to-passable Halloween movie completely unattached to the trilogy. But as a follow-up to 2018 and Kills, the conclusion of Michael and Laurie's story that started when they were little 17 and 21 year-old babies and is now coming to an end on Halloween night, it's a fucking disgrace. It's simply not the same story, the same characters, or the same setup.

Even worse, it shamelessly advertised itself something it wasn't to get butts in seats, and then David Gordon Green had the gall to go "Teehee, not sorry we subverted your expectations, this was always meant to be a love story!" I think that's the part that burns me most of all even now, four months later. They borderline scammed the entire fandom and then blamed the fandom for it.

i want a protagonist who is convinced until the last possible moment that they're in a lighthearted romcom--despite the proliferation of slasher murders. give me a soccer dad who is just so determined to enjoy family vacation, despite the fact the kids summoned an eldritch deity from the lake. a preteen who is experiencing a coming-of-age saga and annoyed their parents aren't emotionally present (the parents are distracted by a literal zombie apocalypse). endless possibilities

I'm reading the Bone comics since I missed out on them as a kid and I'm completely entranced by the idea of taking a protagonist from one genre and mashing them into a completely different genre world without every trying to reconcile the two.

In Bone's case it's taking Loony Toon esq cartoon characters and putting them in a dark fantasy world

^hmmm we'd go during the night because spooky >:3c erm i would definitely get lost because i'm somewhat of a fool /affectionate - noodle definitely knows what she's doing, but even the smart ones get lost sometimes </3 some mishaps may occur and we'd probably solve it within an hour :3c

^michael would protest dressing up for halloween because he wouldn't want to seem 'childish' (especially if he knows he's going to be running into people he associates with), but deep down i think he loves it and would give in pretty quick :3c he'd most likely just try and match whatever i'm doing (i would be ... a vampire of some kind !! a very cute one !! ;3c) - deciding on costumes wouldn't be too hard with that in mind :3c

^noelle, to me, seems like the type you wouldn't expect to be into horror films but she actually really enjoys them - we'd probably watch a few classics like psycho or something slightly more "recent" like friday the 13th, but i'd be tearing that movie a new one the entire time (i do not like friday the 13th ... it is a cheesy slasher and it is Boring) - other than your usual horror flics, i think we would watch something a little more silly like the nightmare before christmas or goosebumps :3c
