Toontown: Rewritten Recap: December 2002 (Happy Winter Holiday)

December 22, 2002

Sir Max, having just gotten OUT of trouble with the Brrrgh for stealing and (accidentally) melting their hockey rink a month ago is now back IN trouble with the Brrrgh for stealing their lightbulbs.

As such, he’s been sentenced to Community Service, and must run around the Neighborhoods to go caroling at six shops.

The issue?

His instructions are written in riddles that hint at which shops he needs to carol at, Clarabelle isn’t selling jackets yet, and he lost the list while writing the blog post.

Thus, Sir Max declared that anyone who can find the list can go caroling for him as he wandered off to try and find some warmth.

The picture for the blog post has a somewhat clear picture of riddles, however.

Christmas Carols are special Speedchat phrases. Using the right carol at the right shop results in a cutscene where the player’s Toon sings the entire carol.

December 23, 2002

Sir Max learned that the Christmas Carols were actually a trap. Singing at the last shop would set off a trap that’d get the caroler’s head stuck inside a Snowman Head. A Snowman Head that won’t go away until it melts at the end of the holiday season.

Sir Max decided to respond by sending even MORE carolers after the shopkeepers, with the end of the post even explaining how to solve the riddles. The riddles hint at the shopkeepers’ names, the names of their shops, and which carols to sing to them while inside their shops.

December 24, 2002

On this day, we were introduced to a new character: Slappy.

He’s a short, green duck from the “Colorful Canvas” district just past the outskirts of Donald’s Dreamland.

Anyways, he made this news blog post because he needed publicity for his campaign. Just like Flippy, he’s running for Toon Council President and he hopes the better candidate between the two will win. He’d LIKE to be the better candidate.

But anyhow, he learned that Flippy had been turning Toons into Black Cats for Halloween, and thus has decided that he’ll be turning Toons into White Polar Bears. Why? Because white’s his favorite color. You can put any color on it. It’s like a blank canvas to him. Unlike black (which you apparently can’t put any colors on), it’s the base of all colors.

Thus, he hung out by Toon Hall for the next couple of days (Christmas Eve and Christmas, leaving at update time on December 26), and introduced the brand-new Polar Bear Toons to Toontown for the very first time, warning the voters that this transformation would only be available for a limited time, and it would be a long, LONG time before their next chance.

And remember: “Don’t be wacky – Vote for Slappy!”

(Note: Only cats can be black, and only bears can be white. I don’t know if that’s changed since then, but I’ll let you know if/when we get to the point in Rewritten’s story where that changed.)

December 25, 2002

Sir Max declared that it ‘twas a Beary White Christmas. No not like Barry White the singer, or Barry White the Ambassador to Norway (I love these obscure references), but Beary White as in the Polar Bears.

White Toons had been requested for years, even before Toontown Rewritten was a thing, and that Slappy has made many a Toon’s dream come true. Sir Max couldn’t wait to see how Flippy planned to top that!

Additionally, Sir Max had a Christmas Present for all the Toons as well. After much begging (and bribes) he convinced the Toon Council and Loony Labs to give the Alpha Testers teleport access to ALL of Toontown’s Playgrounds (including Acorn Acres), using Loony Labs’ newly invented portable hole technology!

The teleport access was only temporary, for testing purposes, but it was nice to have in the meantime.

Also, an update by Disney that let players peek under the clouds on the map was rolled back, so now the clouds persist until Toons visit the corresponding neighborhoods.

Sir Max reminded everyone to stop by Slappy if they wanted to be a Polar Bear (as it would be a LONG time before they had the option again) and wished them all a Merry Christmas as he signed off.

December 26, 2002

The Christmas decorations were taken down, and Sir Max figured the snowstorm would end as soon as he returned all the lightbulbs.

Just one problem: The lightbulbs had all burned out due to being on for 5 days straight.

Sir Max did the responsible thing, for once in his life, and ordered 7,352 lightbulbs to replace the ones he had burned out, but it would take a few days for the delivery to go through.

The Toons of the Brrrgh were FURIOUS.

Sir Max explained the situation to Lil’ Oldman (the wizard responsible for the spell in the first place) and Lil’ Oldman, being a reasonable Toon, replied by tripling the intensity of the blizzard and burying Toontown under ice and snow. Fair’s fair, after all.

And to make matters worse, shoes hadn’t been added yet, so all the Toons are walking around barefoot in this weather.

Sir Max’s only comfort was that he had hot cocoa.

It didn’t do much for him.

I haven't read that many GB books tbh. I only read very little but I will say that Diary of the Living Dummy holds a special spot since it was the first one I read but Slappy in Dreamland is close too

Out of context spoilers for Slappy in Dreamland

my guesses/theories on what might happen in “slappy in dreamland”

As I mentioned in a previous post, thanks to the book “judy and the beast”, I had access to the first 3 and a half chapters of “slappy in dreamland” (theyre really good, its really interesting). Ive come up with some guesses on what might happen in “slappy in dreamland”, of course I have no idea whats actually gonna happen, the only information about the plot I have is the chapters and what on the wiki page, these are just my theories

My guesses/theories are:

·         Its all a dream – like the ending of “slappys nightmare” (I flipping love that book), Richard is gonna wake up and discovers that everything was just a dream, until he receives slappy as a birthday present. I like this idea to be honest because then it would be confirmed that slappy does have the power to access dreams, either that or Richard can predict the future, both of them are possible in the world of goosebumps.

·         We’ll find out what scares slappy the most – I really hope we flipping see this man. Like, even though slappy is the most popular monster in goosebumps, he barely know anything about the guy when you think about it, we only get a few bits of information about his past, only one book each of each of his siblings/father and even that doesn’t reveal much, hell what the hell happened to him before he was found in the dumpster in the first “night of the living dummy” book, see what I mean?. I desperately want to know more about slappy (its why I love the book “slappys nightmare” so much, we literally get the perspective of slappy, its awesome) because he has to be one of the most interesting characters ive ever read about. we already know some of his fears, like hes terrified of termites, fire and his own death (all of them are understandable), but what if we learn of a new fear he has that we don’t know about, how interesting would that be?

·         Slappy becomes an experiment - *spoiler for the first chapters of “slappy in dreamland”*, so literally on the last page of the first couple of chapters, they hook slappy up to a sleep machine as a joke, until they discover that he has fully functioning brain waves, which causes everyone to freak out because… well slappys a puppet, hes not supposed to have brain waves, and then the chapter ends there (the suspense is killing me and this is literally at the beginning of chapter 3). This honestly makes me believe that the mother might actually experiment on slappy, like hooking him up to different devices to see if hes actually alive (which we all know he is but they don’t know) or something like that. I kinda like this idea because from the start ive always had the thought “what would happen if he was caught by scientists or something”. This one actually leads to my next theory

·         Its slappys dream – I would be very happy if this is the case because of my love for “slappys nightmare”, and given we’ve been tricked into believing that a dream was real in the goosebumps series, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was the case

·         Slappy manipulates the machinery – in my guess above, I mentioned that they had hooked slappy up to machines and found out he had fully functioning brainwaves, I honestly believe that this might actually grant slappy the ability to go into peoples dreams as a lot of other people are connected by the same machine. What if Richard and his cousin got connected to this machine, which allows slappy to access theyre dreams as well. I dunno I feel like I can explain this one better

·         Slappy’s memories – dear god I really want to see some of slappy’s memories then it can give us some information about his past. Holy crap, what if we saw some memories of his siblings? That would be AWESOME! We could get more information on franz as well

·         BATTLE! – dude imagine if we get a dream battle like in gravity falls, that would be cool

thats all i got really, i might think of some more later. do you guys have any guesses/theories? if so please let me know, im really interested

random add: i just had the random thought of slappy first accessing this power, and hes just floating there in someones dream like “.....where the flipping heck am i?”, and crashing into a cloud or something. i dunno, it made me laugh

Goosebumps SlappyWorld #16: Slappy in Dreamland

It’s Bee talks about how interesting and silly it’d be if Toontown exists in Auradon. After all, if Wonderland is a real thing there then Toontown can exist too!

Disclaimer: This is just me being silly and doesn’t have to be taken into consideration with your own worldbuilding. This is just for me to enjoy but if you are ever interested in it, feel free to message me. This takes influences from Toontown Online, Rewritten and Corporate Clash as well as just some of my own interpretation of the entire society of toons. ( There will be a continued series of this in the future ( because trust me. this is A LOT. ) ! )

I guess I’ll start with the foundation of Toontown and its history till recent years. 

Toontown was founded by Mickey Mouse as a place for him and his friends to settle in and eventually it was opened to all of toonkind to live in. Most of these toons were anthropomorphic animals but there were occasional humans and other beings/creatures/things in the mix. Though to unknown circumstances, possibly “ work “ related things, Mickey and the gang had to leave the town but occasionally come back once in awhile to visit. During the leave(s) though, the toons were left to care for the town and more and more toons seem to move in which eventually caused a bit of overflow in population. The toons decided to set up what are called Playgrounds and name / base them off of the original gang:

Mickey’s Toontown Central

Donald’s Dock / Dreamland

Daisy Gardens

Minnie’s Melodyland

The Brrrgh ( which was for Pluto )

and lastly, Goofy’s Speedway

These were the original playgrounds but as years went by new playgrounds were made or even discovered ( in the case of Ye Olde Toontown ). This allowed for more space for toons to move in and for the most part, everything seemed good. There was eventually a need for some leadership so the toons decided to hold an election for mayor of Toontown. There were a few candidates but the most prominent ones were Flippy and Slappy. Both of them had made quite the name for themselves and it only caused the excitement for the results to be even bigger. The final results were in and the winner was Slappy, who was more than happy to have won. However, the celebration was ended too early when, what appeared to be a robot, came from the sky. Slappy tried to communicate with it but was hit with a sudden blast causing Slappy to go sad. ( a toon’s equivalent to dying ) This suddenly caused an uproar and right as Flippy asked where Slappy was taken and got ready to throw a pie, the Cogs invaded. This was the infamous Doomsday.

From here on out, Toons and Cogs were at constant war with each other. A group of toons formed the Toon Resistance that would focus on protecting other toons and figure out the Cogs’ weaknesses. Toons didn’t necessarily have to join the resistance but the HQ would always make sure any newcomers or new of age toons were up for the tasks ahead. After all, it seemed Cogs often roamed the streets of their playgrounds and safety was a must.

And now, where exactly would Toontown be in the Auradon map?

This is a question that I bounce back and forth a lot but the main thing is: It’s not. Due to the “ obsurdity “ of toons, Adam made sure Toontown was not on the map or even accessible through normal means of transport because of this, toons became just what they were supposed to be: figments of our imagination. If toons were to travel to Auradon or the “ real “ world, they would appear as normal animals or if enough magic / influence is available, they can even be human to disguise themselves even better. Likewise, anyone who travels to Toontown would become a toon! Again though, travelling between these two places has become obscured in mystery but ... some say there’s a mysterious cave in a forest ( it’s unknown which one at the moment ) that no one is sure where it leads to, its so dark and barren but sometimes, the sound of laughter, squirt guns and fogs can be heard and the sweet smell of a wonderful fruit pie surrounds the entrance.

Just finished Slappy in Dreamland and for the most part, it was really good! Definitely one of the better Slappyworld books to have come out. The ending was a bit rushed but the bulk of the story was pretty fun to read! I reccomend it if you're a fan of goosebumps / enjoy the living dummy saga.

Out of context spoiler warning; Real quick- the zoo scene. Oh my god. And people say Slappy is "innocent."

so i discovered during a R.L.Stine interveiw a bit ago, that he is writing a slappy world book thats going to be called “slappy in dreamland”, and lets just say that me and @mentalmayhem are VERY excited about it
