It would have been so easy to fix that moment in Skypeia when Zoro gets mad at Enel for hurting Robin, because, "She's a woman." IT SUCKS SO BAD AND UNDERMINES HIS WHOLE THING COMPLETELY. You know what would have been great instead?

If Robin and Zoro had found Chopper beaten up and passed out at the same time. It's a good moment with Zoro saying he doesn't fight for petty reasons like revenge, but he can feel a reason coming on. It was cool! Very Zoro! BUT if Robin had reacted in anger first, I think that would 100% be the clear important moment when Zoro accepts her as a member of the crew.

Just picture him about to lose it, and Robin gets there first. The way he'd look at her in surprise, and then do that stupid evil smile of his as he gets ready to fight together.

If that had happened directly beforehand, it would be perfectly earned if Zoro had gotten angry that Enel had hurt Robin because "She's a member of my crew." CAN YOU IMAAAGINEEEE. It'd be SO GOOD.

Plus, Chopper is the crewmember that Robin has been most affectionate towards at this point, because he's so cute. All you'd need to do is add one more tiny exchange between them, where she laughs at his antics, a moment of Chopper being nice to her, for her anger over Chopper getting hurt to feel earned too.

It could have been done so smoothly..... IT COULD HAVE BEEN REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!!

ZORO ROBIN HEIGHT DIFFERENCE!!!!!

So, I was oblique about it a while back, in part because, and it remains so, I have no ground to stand on about this. Also, to preface, I am not Jewish, though I follow a fair number of Jewish folks here on Tumblr, and have found that I like Judaism. Not enough to convert, but it's definitely the religion that makes the most sense to me.

Putting this whole thing under a Read More because I go on at length.

But then someone does a reblog or a follow or something and I glance through their page. Lately it's been: cool post, amusing post, meh post, whatever... then, suddenly, antisemitic post. Or a post containing misinformation about the conflict almost half a world away.

It's worse when, looking at the blog, it seems the person should know better. Specifically, when they're One Piece fans.

Again, I'm no expert. I've never left the United States (outside a week-long camping trip in Canada), let alone been to the Levant.

But in my mostly uninformed opinion, I've been seeing people act like this is Alabasta or Dressrosa, where an outsider comes in to conquer and destroy. But things much closer to Skypeia.

For those who don't know One Piece, and a refresher for those who think it's "filler," the Skypeia Arc involves two peoples, the Shandians and the Skypeians. Four hundred years before the Straw Hats arrived, the Shandians found themselves and their land blasted into the sky, where it basically merged with a sky island, Skypeia.

Not long after their arrival, the Shandians were exiled from their own homeland, and they've been trying to get back ever since. And doesn't that sound familiar?

By the story's present day, none of the Shandians or Skypeians were involved in that original conflict. The Shandians have even been changed by their new circumstances, gaining vestigial wings, just like the Skypeians have.

But the Shandians still want to go home. And so, there is conflict. And how does jt get resolved? Not because of Eneru's defeat, though that certainly helped, but because the two peoples finally came to an understanding.

And right now, from what I've been able to gather, there's an Eneru on Israel's side in the form of Netanyahu, and a whole group of them, Eneru and all his followers, on Gaza's side in the form of Hamas.

And yet, for some reason, people are blaming the Shandians/Israelis or the Skypeians/Gazan-Palestinians for what these two are doing.

And it doesn't make sense to me.

look Skypeia is not even close to my favorite arc I honestly felt like it went on for just a little too long. But I can't deny it when Luffy rang that bell and Mont Blanc Cricket looked up in the sky and saw Luffy hitting this pose.

And just allowed himself to finally fully believe int he story he always hoped was true. Because The golden city didnt sink to the bottom of the sea it shot to the top of the sky.

I think about that everyday.

i'm getting towards the end of the skypeia arc, & i'd like to say just how much i adore the way the female strawhats have been treated.

just... every aspect of how the way their characters have been previously contextualized influences the story-line is treated with a masterful amount of consideration. we're given so many layers to both of them that enrich not only their characters specifically, but the arc, and the one piece world as a whole. without nami & robin having their specific skills, and their specific values, without those being built upon, the story would have come to a halt.

you could not have skypeia without nami & robin being who they are as individuals. not just because they never would've gotten there without nami, but also because the way these women think is itself foundational to the machinations of the arc as a whole.

to be totally upfront, if you think any other strawhats were more central to the skypeia arc than nami & robin were you are full-on fucking lying to yourself.
