i think the worst part about riverdale is that some of its concepts are so interesting but it's buried under thirty feet of shitty execution and mishandled characters

it's hard to put the words in a good format but i gotta say the way they handled the grundy/archie relationship was SO BAD AND GROSS??

i mean, first of all, archie is 15/16 years old, and grundy is at LEAST 30 (probably more considering her "former husband" mentioned in her ""tragic past"" which I'll get to later), YET they treat the relationship as though it's perfectly reasonable and not at all gross. and that everybody ELSE is in the wrong for wanting to report grundy to the police. even going so far as to make the most evil character in the show dislike the relationship, just to hammer in the point more.

second of all, grundy is clearly manipulating archie. and not just about the murder -- she's practically convinced him that their relationship is not only okay, but completely NORMAL and HEALTHY. archie saying she "didn't force him to do anything" is a line straight out of an abuse victim's mouth, yet she is shown as SYMPATHETIC and IN THE RIGHT.

and her "tragic backstory" was,, definitely made up on the spot to manipulate archie further. i feel like that's just obvious? she just so happens to have the Perfect excuse for the fake name and the gun?? coincidence?? Unlikely.

and the way she phrases it, as though her life would be empty and terrible without archie, and that she needs him to be happy -- that's another very obvious sign of manipulation?? and the show treats it as if it's romantic??

tl;dr: archie andrews was manipulated by a woman twice his age and the abuser got away scott-free and was portrayed as sympathetic and that is utterly disgusting
