I promised myself I was going to post this and I forgot! I made an embroidery for my best friend for her birthday.
Commander Cosmo, from The Vice Quadrant by Steam Powered Giraffe. A truly bangin’ space opera.
I used leftover fabric from some pillowcases I made as the background. The pattern itself was lovingly designed by my other best friend @stories-to-the-end. Without her he could have never been created. I’m so proud of our son.
This was my first time using satin/silky embroidery thread and I’m really happy with the effect!

Regarding Rabbit in the song Sky Sharks
Why didn't she just use her flamethrower? Why did she have to ask Professor Elemental if he had a lighter?

Death Korps of Krieg Aerial Squad
I have this tradition of movie nights with my mate - and only the finest garbage will do for us. This time it was "Sky Sharks". A movie he impulse bought when ordering "Cannibal women in the Avocado Jungle of Death". The avocados will have to wait until next time. This time it was zombies and sharks and everything.
That movie was fun beyond our wildest dreams! The finest trash imaginable! Absolutely stunning. No inner logic, no real story, no nothing - but .. flying sharks! Way better than all the Sharknados (and we've seen them all!). Trashfest de luxe.
And it inspired me to this picture.

I’ve seen the concept of land sharks, tiny sharks with lil legs acting like dogs. But what about….SKY SHARKS.
THEY HAVE WINGS, AND THEY DIVE BOMB INTO THINGS. THEY’RE THE SIZE OF A SEAGUL AND ACT LIKE ONE TOO.

The existence and name of sky sharks implies that there are in fact aquatic sharks in Atmos and that’s why the distinction has been made.
Would that also mean land sharks are a possibility in Storm Hawks?
A sharknado would also be plausible in Atmos too.
Do what you will with this thought.

Fanart for Steam Powered Giraffe songs I draw a while back but want to share here too.
First one is Necrostar (using refs from album artwork) and the other is my attempt of making a Mama Sky Sharks from Sky Sharks.
If you like macabre steampunk vaudeville about robots then I totally recommend this group.

SPG Sky Shark Music Video?
I saw this post in the Tip of My Tongue subreddit and got permission to post it on tumblr.
[TOMT][MUSIC VIDEO]Steam Powered Giraffe — Sky Sharks So idk if anyone else remembers this, but I remember a music video for this song. It was back when Sam Luke (Hatchworth) was still a part of the band and I remember Professor Elemental making a cameo in the video. They also did the video in a really unique style making it more of a play/skit (compared to their other videos). I saw the video back in 2017, and the song came out 2 years prior, so the video had to have been around for a little bit. I hope I didn’t imagine the entire video. It was really cool. I’m aware of the song/video that’s already on YouTube, but this was a full on music video that I’ve been searching for for a few years now. I’ve seen gifs using the same background that was used in the video. The gifs I’m finding are of Rabbit (Isabella Bennet), in front of a purple and pink swirling vortex. I checked the Wayback Machine again, and there’s nothing there for that timeframe. I did reach of to SPG about the video as well about a week ago and I’m still waiting for a response. I’ve also done a search through their social media accounts and haven’t found anything for the video. I tried to post this is r/lostmedia because that’s what it is, but it was removed for “not being a lost media” and was told to post it here. It’s not at the tip of my tongue because I know the name, I know the song, and I remember the video. I even know what band made the song, but I can’t find evidence of it existing anywhere. So this is my last hope at finding it.
And then a follow up:
This is the same background they used in the video, but the gif isn’t from that specific one.
There was even a part where The Spine (David Bennet) used a landline phone to “call the Queen” in the video. I even remember Rabbit turning around with a torch and swinging it at the Sky Sharks.
Does that sound familiar to anyone? If yes, can you please either message me, or comment as a reply on the reddit? :)

This was a pretty epic shit-flick, my friends 😅 Nazi zombies riding flying, weaponized cyborg sharks. Lots of cheesball cgi gore, some practical effects that were pretty cool, kills galore, Tony Todd, Marcy D'Arcy (from Married with Children 🤯) a respectable amount of nudity (silicone, tho... not my thing), a few laughs, and lowbrow-stylish all the way through. Even the boring bits were stylish and cool. Admittedly, I spaced out during the final battle so I can't speak to whether or not that bumped it up or down, but it looked pretty fucking epic to my zoned-put eyeballs. Regardless, I'll definitely be watching this one again so that's just more to enjoy later. It's a foreign film but the dialog is 90% English. Check this one out if zombie nazis flying cyborg sharks sounds like a good time to you. 6.5/10 (pending a rewatch) and streaming for free with adds on Freevee. (Personally, I bought the double feature bluray that has the movie Bunny the Killer Thing with it which was another epic foreign horror comedy that's available to watch on YouTube in full from Kino Cult. Found that priceless combo on Ebay for less than $10. A steal. That one has a shit load of comedic cock-horror, tho, so...you've been warned.)

What do you mean by Venus floating cities?
I'm hoping to write a science fiction story about visiting Venus as part of the space race and I would love your input
Alright so the thing with Venus is that we're all very familiar with her horrible hell-death clouds and 900°F surface temperatures. We all understand the surface of Venus is not a fun place for humans to be.
But, nobody ever talks about the fact that ABOVE the hell-death clouds, Venus is a paradise. The most Earth-like environment we know of in the solar system, beyond Earth itself, is actually in the skies of Venus.
About 30 miles above the surface, the pressure is ~1 atmosphere, and the temperature ranges from 30 - 100°F, which is Happy Human™ standard pressure and temperature.
What's more, a breathable mix of oxygen and nitrogen provides over 60% the lifting power on Venus that helium does on Earth. In other words, a balloon full of human-breathable air would float to the habitable range of Venus's atmosphere. We could float a ship with the very air we breathe.
The other great thing about this is that it avoids one of the big problems with Mars colonization. On Mars, any habitat on the surface full of breathable air is vulnerable to leaks and explosive decompression, a la the Martian.
Floating on Venus, a balloon full of breathable air doesn't have a significant pressure difference between the inside and the outside. Which means, any leaks or tears would be very slow and manageable. You could fix that shit with duct tape!
Similarly, because the environment outside the balloon is so Earth-like, humans living there wouldn't need any big fancy pressurized suits for extravehicular work. We'd need air to breathe, maybe some heat protection, and protection against the acid rain. That's it.
Venus also provides the tools to keep us fed! It's atmosphere is made primarily of carbon dioxide, even above the dense horrible clouds. What likes carbon dioxide? Plants from Earth!! Lets grow FOOD on FLOATING PLATFORMS in the SKIES of VENUS.
This whole idea actually came out of a NASA effort exploring potential Venus colonization. The program was called HAVOC - the High Altitude Venus Operational Concept.
It hasn't really gone anywhere, and as far as I know there are no real plans to revisit it. Unfortunately, from a practicality standpoint, Mars is a much more viable target for human colonization. Not only is it better poised for outer solar system exploration, being farther away from the sun, but living on Venus would come with too many complicated contingencies. In the event of a major failure on Venus, you'd need to fly to another base, or fuck off all the way to orbit. I understand why people aren't really in a hurry to live somewhere where landing on the surface means certain death.
But that doesn't mean I won't be forever and always enamored by the skies of Venus. Here's one of the artist concepts to come out of HAVOC.
I want to be there.

Be wary of the Sky Sharks
They want to nom on your blood
Original Sky Shark design created by Isabella Bunny Bennett
Acrylic paint on a 11x14 inch canvas board
wip photos under the cut
Initial sketch, trying to figure out the proportions
I used a blue colored pencil to put the rough shapes onto a canvas board that had been cloud practice
Slowly adding basic shapes and projectiles
I added some green to the tops of the sharks as camouflage
Then I superimposed some wings onto the sharks!
A close up of one of the book. I had to search for a reference for it, so you're going to look at it too

Funny way I found this: I was looking up the cast of Lexx to see what they’ve been up to. I’ll let you figure it out.
