I woke up today like 2 times and fell asleep listening and audio from my boyfriend. Now I’m in the bus going to the pool and then the library to read comics and books, a few hours of silence!!! I really enjoy being in a quiet place.

I read Lore Olympus, Solitaire, Heartstopper(all), this winter, In, Gender queer: a memoir, Laura Dean keeps breaking up with me, skim, through the woods, milk and honey, the sculptor, dragonslippers and some more.

Another weird question for the World of Predator Gods: how would the Gods, their Champions and Bela's daughter react if they were gender swapped? So if someone turned males into females and viceversa. And how would Skim act towards Prax and Mike when suddenly seeing them as girls?

Well, I imagine literally all of them would be massively freaked out, just for a start. XD As for Skim...he'd probably be very disappointed, since he's homosexual, and now his cute roommate and the drop-dead gorgeous hunk of a God upstairs are ladies. Where's the fun in that?! Well...either that, or Skim will suddenly be questioning his sexuality, since he'll suddenly realize he likes them this way, as well. With him, who can say which is more likely? ;)

Ghost rants about Mariko Tamaki's "Skim."

Honestly, the Mariko Tamaki hate is kinda deserved because "I am Not Starfire" is a shitty self insert, and "Skim" has a literal teacher-student romance that isn't ever shown as really bad or illegal. But I think people ignore her other work that is actually kinda good. I grew up reading her comics in middle school, and they felt important and like they had something profound to say. Probably because I was a gay tween trying to figure out myself, but it still shows that they still had an effect on me. Particularly "This One Summer" and "Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me."

It's also kinda weird how the only people I've seen actually review her work are "comics/media is getting too woke now!!1!1!!!11" types. Like, it feels like they're just hating on her without trying to understand why certain artistic choices were made or if there was any meaning behind a character's actions. I remember that the art teacher did tell Skim she wanted to end things, idk if it was when Skim came to her house after she left the school or another thing, but every review I've seen skips over that. I feel like with the inclusion of that part, the story becomes more of a "teacher takes advantage of a student who feels lonely and isolated, feels guilty and bad about it, student still doesn't understand because she isn't mature enough to realize what happened was wrong" story. The art teacher feeling bad doesn't do anything to make the situation better or absolve her of her actions. She was the adult, and she should have kept things professional and legal. But it changes how the reader can interpret the story. I still don't understand why it was included, though. It could've just been a "gets a first girlfriend and then she breaks up with me for no reason" romance instead, maybe even make the girlfriend her friend's older sister (but still within an acceptable age range) to imply that the girlfriend broke up with Skim because she felt bad about dating her little sister's friend.

I always thought of "Skim" as being about a high school girl who's angsty and shitty. We're getting a small glimpse of her life and what happens in that time frame. We see how there's a tragedy at her school that she sees the response to as being "over dramatic." Which is ironic because Skim herself is just as dramatic, not how she thinks her classmates are being, but in the way a kid on a TV show goes through an edgy phase. I think people forget that a protagonist can be an asshole because that's another complaint I see brought up all the time. Skim is an ass. You don't have to like her, she doesn't care if you do, but she also does because she wants to be liked. She's a teenager, anyone who's recently been a teen, one that was an outcast like Skim and had an edgy phase, can relate to that. You want to be cool, but not like the popular kids are cool, so you go too far in the other direction, and you feel like everyone else doesn't like you, so now you feel like an outcast.

Another thing I don't get people complaining about is the diary format and how it's "too disjointed." It's a diary. Is it supposed to be like reading a day by day basis of what happened and how and where and when? No! A diary is meant to be a collection of thoughts, feelings, and other shit you want to get off your chest. Does it always work? No. Does it mean it's a bad format? No. I feel like it fits with what "Skim" is going for. It just may not have been executed well.

I think I might re-read all the books of hers I read as a kid to see if they still hold up as much as I felt they did. It's been a good few years since I've read any of Mariko Tamaki's books, so maybe I'll interpret things differently now. I based all of the above on what I remember thinking and how I interpreted the book when I read it in middle school.

Total Daddy’s girl, she just to followed him around like a tail as a bab

A complete Himbo, there is not a thought behind his eyes, but damn he swole

Has trouble bonding with her mom since they have very little in common in terms of interests, but they try

(Lizzie and Joel bond over being awkwardly bad parents)

Has a real soft spot for love, so he likes to hang out by the ranch and nowhere else because love is dead

In the PolyAU, he would encourage her siblings weird interests, but he would also just carry them away from whatever danger they put themselves into

Surprisingly good farmer

Would have stayed with Gem on the empires server, and the Christmas village on Hermitcraft

Mummy Jumbo

Non ironically love this Doofenshmirtz like dude, he’s my favorite

Momma’s boy, she whole heartedly encourages his evil plans and schemes. Mumbo is wondering what the hell is going on most of the time

Would see himself as Liana’s (Fly Guy’s) nemesis, while she would forget his name most of the time

Spends hours every night practicing his evil laugh

Absolutely horrible at redstone, one of his biggest insecurities

Still likes to sit by the side and watch his dad work. It’s their favorite bonding activity

Sidekick absolutely hates him, but in a Tsundere type of way

PolyAU, he has tried to kill his siblings multiple time in very elaborate schemes but he’s very bad at it

Would have stayed with Lizzie on the Empires server and Cub on Hermitcraft

Skim Jumbo

Feral and autistic, the best of both worlds

They get along great with both of their dads, but they have more in common with Mumbo

Enderman + Jumbo genes = one incredibly tall lanky individual. They looks like an actual stalk of bamboo

Has not looked presentable in years. The only part of them that is actually well taken care of is their mustache, everything else is a mess

They used to wear a matching suit to their dads, but then they just never washed it, let multiple seams rip, lost the jacket, and had been attacked multiple times. Their outfit is fully unsalvageable

People make them nervous, so they talk to nobody ever

Has the backbone of a chocolate eclair. They will agree to anything you say, but they will be grumpy about it later

Redstone fanatic, they dream of one day breaking a server with just a single contraption

PolyAU, they have many plans on how to kill both their siblings, but hasn’t had the balls to execute them yet

Would have stayed by themselves on Empires, and by themselves on Hermitcraft

Review: "Skim" by Mariko Tamaki -

Tamaki's adolescent struggles are as much everyone's, the jaded and vulnerable ways we seek love, the conflicting and private ways the world responds. A marvelous and sensitive story!

Ask for Baan, Mike and Skim: with the permission of Prax (if he ever gave that), had the two humans ever tried to get eaten by Baan, out of sheer curiosity? And if not, even just to try, would they wanna try that?

I'll answer for them, because this is a bit of a lore question. See, I should clarify that the three Gods DON'T live in the same city, or anything like that. In essence, the three Predator Gods I've made are the three who rule what would be the United States in our world. Each has a certain territory they control. And while I think their home bases are fairly close to one another - probably in a sort of centralized area, with their respective territories branching out from there - they don't live so in proximity to one another they meet up all the time. I write them all answering questions in Asks because it's convenient. But in terms of the way this world actually works...I think all of them have met each other, probably even more than once, but they aren't super close geographically OR in terms of major relationships.

So, no. Mike and Skim probably have not been eaten by Baan. XD
