I appreciate so much that jordan peele lets you sit and live with the monster, whatever his monster is, it's real. it's there, its in the whole movie, it's not just something that gets spoken about or teased throughout. and then the audience only experiences it in the last 20-30 minutes in the climax of the film. you get to sit with the monster, get to know it, familiarize yourself. its wonderful and so refreshing.

I just found your blog and im absolutely in love, wondering if it's alright if i do ask for a matchup?
Im gender fluid and pansexual and im afab , my moon and sun is in virgo and my ascendant in capricorn. My personality type is intp and i love to ice skate, play small indie horror games, and draw using graphite ( i dont have access to digital R. I. P) and most importantly my obsession with dungeons and dragons.
Im planning to major in zoology or marine biology to help preserve animals and study about new ones and hopefully my greatest achievement will be discovering a new species. People have said that i act very quietly and discreet, and that i dont talk much, you have to approach me first to talk to me lmao. Im also very self conscious and a detail oriented person. However once i actually open up to someone im witty (only at jokes tbh) and my humor is very dry and stupid with some irony there (pretty much only deez nuts jokes honestly)
Im around 5' ( i genuinely dont know how), i have short black hair thats around up to my shoulders, dark brown eyes, oddly soft skin, and lots of tiny small scars around my arms and legs from wacky accidents. I love daemonic entities/eldritch beings, smaller fandoms like lunchclub, listening to rock, edm, metal, and game ost's, making stories up, and just talking to someone in general.
Sorry if i wrote my entire autobiography here and sounding cringe. My English isnt the best lmao (im indonesian), but lots of love to you ❤❤❤
Your best friend is… Hoodie/Brian Thomas!
In general:
At first, I was going to say EJ but I feel like… He would not mesh entirely well with the demonic entities thing because he’s still got some trauma to work through?? But Brian on the other hand? Yes. I will get into that though right… now!
Things he likes about you:
Brian finds your love of animals so admirable and supports your future dreams 100%! He loves animals himself. He also really likes that you’re conscious and detail oriented because he’s like that too but also surprisingly forgetful at times! So please, reel him in from time to time. He likes that you like ice skating and that you’re into dungeons and dragons! I feel like Brian has always wanted to play, but never had anyone to do so with so like please, go do that with him. Give him a good game master and let him have fun please. He also really likes your art too! He also really enjoys your sense of humor and finds it SO FUN.
General cute stuff:
He finds your height so cute. Like, Brian is a natural protector and he sees smaller people and he just “most protect” and he absolutely will. Thinks your small scars are really cool and wants to know the stories behind every single one of them so long as you are comfortable telling him! Brian has a love for knowledge and the occult so like, he’ll research daemonic entities with you. Also has a thing for Lovecraftian horror. So like, please talk to him about that kind of stuff. I can also see Brian being into smaller, more obscure fandoms too so the two of you can trade off and learn together lmfao. He’d love to listen to your stories that you make up and he’d also love to tell some of his own. Brian is REALLY GOOD at storytelling! He will also love to listen to your music! Jam out with him please!!
You two as best friends:
SO, I can definitely see zoo outings as a regular thing between the two of you. Brian loves learning about the natural world and everything in it and by extension, he really likes animals! Specifically, birds and big cats (I also think he likes horses-) but he will definitely be taking you to different zoos, learning and just having fun. Nature outings too, probably. Small little doodles, like the man will always doodle something pretty he saw just for you. I can just see the two of you on a grassy hill, sun in the sky, clouds overhead, talking about the world and everything in it. Maybe sketch books? Canvasses? Painting? I just love it so much!! Also you two are always giggling over stuff. Brian is such a sunshiney person (before the events of Marble Hornets and I think a part of him retained that AFTER MH as well), that he’s so willing to come up to you and makes you laugh in mere moments? He’s just got a really good heart, y’know? You can also attempt to help him with ice skating,,,, but who knows if he’s any good at it lmfao.
Closing Thoughts/Other Things:
Hi love bug! You didn’t mention your age so I defaulted to platonic, I’m so sorry if that’s not what you wanted! Feel free to like, inbox me again and correct me because I outright refuse romantic and NSFW to minors! Just a boundary line and some housekeeping, y’know? ALSO, never apologize for how much you send to me, I appreciate when people send me entire NOVELS. It’s so much more helpful for me and allows me to make ungodly long answers. Thank you so much for the compliment, that’s really sweet of you! You’re all so sweet omg, I just love reading all about all of y'all. You're all so special imo. Short gang as well, barely 5' here too. ALSO, tell me about dungeons and dragons I’ve never played myself but I would like to. As always, let me know what you think and I hope you enjoyed!

A New Age Dawning
I once met a Freemason who said he changed his career ever seven years, a concept he based on the seventh sabbatical year of the Old Testament. And it wasn’t like he moved to a different position within the same career field. He made drastic changes: professor, salesman, laborer, etc. And in different parts of the country, too. At first, I thought he was lying. Then I thought he was running from something. But in the end, I envied him. We only get one life, so why spend it working toward a singular goal, no matter how grand? Why not reinvent yourself? Who wouldn’t jump on the chance to be reborn? And that idea stuck with me in a subtle way until I ran across it again in my Bible reading about a year ago. The year of Jubilee, it’s called. A year in which all debts are forgiven, all land is returned to its original owners, and everyone starts anew. Once every seven years. And do you know what’s a multiple of seven? Thirty five, which is exactly what I was going to be turning the next year. And not a moment too soon. You see, my life has been a series of seven-year “ages” in which I’ve grown and found new exciting experiences, but at the end of each age, I become anxious, bogged down with mundane frustration until I finally burst through into some new adventure. And like any good adventure, mine started with the First Age…
The First Age: Ignorance (0-7)
The first seven years of my life are my mobile home memories. A little trailer home on Dorlac Road. Avoiding cactuses in our dirt basketball court. Digging through overgrown lily pads and cattails to get to our fishing hole. Going to daycare with the lady who played the piano and the man who threw a fake duck to his Golden Retriever. And family. So much family. The four of us boys crammed onto the broke-down couch and drawing funny faces on TV Guide pictures. Mom cooking a four-pound meatloaf to feed us. Watching my older brothers play Zelda and Punch Out and Techmo Superbowl. Going fishing at the Mississippi river with Grandpa Winch. Watching baseball with Grandpa Collins. Playing Ninja Turtles and Dungeons & Dragons with my cousins. Being mad when everyone went to Grandma’s and had chicken pox, but I wasn’t allowed to go and have any for some reason. You see, Grandma was the BEST cook, and I was SURE Chicken Pox were delicious. Because at that time, I didn’t understand it. Any of it. All lights and colors and awe-inspiring mystery. But when I turned eight, my parents began taking us to this other place. A spot in the woods. And we started cutting down those woods, clearing a space big enough for a castle. And men came out and blew up the ground, making a big hole. Walls went up. So many walls. And then mom said I had to start going to school. Away from my family. Away from everything I knew. But there was one thing I knew then: Fear.
The Second Age: Innocence (7-14)
I remember my first night in the new house. How could anyone keep from getting lost in such a place. It was so dark, quiet, and cavernous. I got a cat soon after that, and he felt the same way. Skittish, hidden, afraid. I named him Kitty. Kitty was my first real pet, and he was one of my closest friends through that Second Age. But slowly, something started to happen within me. I started to realize that the new house wasn’t scary. The new house was warm, solid, enduring, safe. Even the woods around us were peaceful and inviting. Our pond didn’t have any lily pads or cattails. But it did have catfish. Huge ones. And they bit best at night on doughballs. The deepest parts of the woods had caves and bluffs and creeks. And I could wander as long as I wanted without a watch or a compass, and somehow I’d always end up back at home just before dark.
School wasn’t so bad, either. I was nice to the kids, and they were nice back. I even made some friends who lived within bike-riding distance. I think Greg and Zach were the first. They were older, but they lived on the same gravel road. And they liked cards. Not the boring ones that my brothers liked—the ones about sports. No, these new cards had superheroes on them. And some of them were games that let you BE a superhero and fight against your friends’ superheroes. They brought my Saturday morning cartoons to life, and my love for fantasy and imagination started to blossom. I met Brandon next. He was a new kid on the bus, and he had a cool toy. He became my best friend for many years. Together we explored the wilderness, conquered the FIRST Warcraft game, and discovered girls. And as I approached the end of the Second Age, a dark, hormonal shadow spread over my life of innocence.
The Third Age: Independence (14-25)
Middle school. I shouldn’t have to explain further, but I will. My friends grew armpit hair, and I didn’t. My friends made the basketball team, and I didn’t. My friends paired up with girlfriends, and I didn’t (except that one time when Elizabeth Stroble let me cut in the lunch line by her). I found purpose in football, and I found God at Bates Creek church camp. A girl said she liked me in high school, so I started dating her. Then she cheated on me with my previously-mentioned best friend. It was then, at the peak of puberty’s angst, that I first felt heartbreak. I forgave them both and remained friends with them. I then met some more lifelong friends of the most interesting kind—skaters. There was something about them that I identified with. Not the skating (I lived on a gravel road, remember?). But they were honest, raw, adventurous, unafraid. A little broken, but also honest and loyal. And they all had the best senses of humor. I was friendly toward everyone in high school (even nominated for “most congenial”), but it was with those skaters that I learned to really push the boundaries of my reality.
This epic Age, extending through college to a couple years beyond, was the most adventurous and transformative of my life. There’s so much to tell. My first drink of alcohol (a “hey, mister” bottle of Jack Daniels in the back of my friend’s van). Wild parties that ALWAYS ended with deep conversations. Cruising the strip in my red 1995 Camaro. A heart-wrenching breakup with my second girlfriend, which left both mental and physical scars. Finding true peace in my empty college bedroom with a cup of tea, a candle, and my first copy of The Fellowship of the Ring. And then finding my love of reading, writing, and LEARNING. Education was a concept that had been forced down my throat throughout school, so I never realized I actually LOVED learning new things until it became an option. But it wasn’t long into my college career when I started devouring philosophy, history, religion, and fantasy of all kinds. And then I met my future wife in a bowling alley, and everything changed. She wasn’t from my hometown. She didn’t know any of my family or my childhood friends. She had no interest in fantasy books or emo music. She was an enigma and an emotional mess. And she was perfect. From that point on, I plowed through the middle of the Third Age. My future wife graduated from college, I graduated the following year, and that summer, I passed my Boards, married the love of my life, went on my first vacation outside of the country (a blissful honeymoon to Cancun), and moved from Missouri to Virginia Beach to start my first “adult” job as a physical therapist. And just like that, I found myself sitting on a beach next to my wife, 1,000 miles from home.
It’s odd that it would take getting married to feel true independence. But college was just an evolution of high school. And in Virginia, the only person I knew was my wife, and I barely knew her. So as you can imagine, the next couple of years were hard. I had no big brothers or parents to show me how things were done. No friends to vent to. No familiar pets or woods to feel perfectly at home. No, this was an entirely new adventure for my new wife and me. We fought, we cried, we kissed, we fought some more, and we didn’t think we were going to make it. And then, one night after my shift at Busch Gardens Howl-o-Scream (yes, I moonlighted as a 6’5” axe-wielding zombie), I received a call. Well several calls, actually. And all of them said I needed to call home. Dad had been in a car accident. He was dead.
The next year was a blur. The darkest of my life. Gray. That’s all I remember. Grayness, confusion, doubt, hopelessness. I felt overworked and underqualified at a miserable job surrounded by immaturity, manipulation, and spite. I let the unresolved depression from losing my father destroy my relationship with my wife. And finally, at my wits end, I dragged said wife back home to Farmington (not my WIFE’s home, mind you. And that fact plagued our relationship for many years). Thus ended our time at Virginia Beach and the longest Age of my life.
The Fourth Age: Interlude (25-28?)
If the Third was the longest age, the Fourth was the shortest. From twenty-five to twenty-eight, in the wake of tragedy and what felt like betrayal, I slipped back into the comfort of things I knew. I found healing in writing—transforming memories and ideas into worlds and adventures that couldn’t harm me the way the real world had—and I was actually good at it! I also started work at my hometown clinic with my physical therapy mentor, which meant I was suddenly surrounded by people who knew everything about me. They UNDERSTOOD me. They comforted and uplifted me. For that I am forever grateful. But my dependance on the past also nearly broke the bond my wife and I had begun to forge in Virginia. She was jealous that I was home. I was jealous that she still had both parents. But slowly, after a lot of tears and a few broken pieces of furniture, we found each other again. There was no single epiphanous moment, but the defining word between us was commitment. Commitment to God and commitment to each other. Life started regaining some of its color, and I started trusting again. And then, after coming home from a hunting trip with my brothers one weekend, my wife told me she was pregnant.
The Fifth Age: Inquisition (28-35)
Gosh, what a whirlwind. My daughters’ stories are written in detail on this blog, so I won’t rehash them, but talk about nonstop adventure! In some ways, this has been the best Age of my life, but as I neared its end, the horizon again grew dark.
You see, through earlier tragedy and hardship, I had developed an, “If it is to be, it’s up to me,” mentality. Mostly because there were some unfortunate things that I couldn’t control but there were so many that I could. And it seemed like anything I really set my mind to was attainable. I’d landed my dream job. I’d also written novels, and those novels were getting closer and closer to publication. But slowly, my dream job became a monotonous chore, and my fledgling writing career started hitting one dead end after another. To the point where my literary agent finally broke ties, and after writing five novels, I didn’t have the strength to write another one. And tragically, I let those facts define me.
Of course, it’s such a tragedy because I was finally living a fruitful life with my wife and two super girls! On top of that, I’d become a freemason and met more lifelong friends, and toward the end of the Age, I’d embarked on a nearly year-long introspective journey with five other Christian men. But none of that mattered because I didn’t know who I was. I’d failed at writing, my “day job” became a drain on my spirit, and no matter how much I tried, there didn’t seem to be an end in sight.
And here we are. On the cusp of a new age. Last week, I finished my last meeting with those five amazing Christian men, and they have saved me. Truly. Well, they have helped me back to God’s purpose in my life: Achieving Adventure. Before that, I was dying inside, and I didn’t know why. I HAD to achieve something. ANYTHING (as if a wife, kids, and a successful career weren’t enough). But the ruts were so deep that finding a new path felt impossible. Too late in the game. Another has-been who had come so close but ultimately wasted all of his God-given potential. Talk about a classic mid-life crisis. And then came those 6 a.m. meetings. The conversations will likely fade into distant memory, but the effects will stay with me forever. Those men helped me realize what I’ve been chasing my whole life: adventure, exploration, the unknown. I LOVE learning, remember? I love growing. Not achieving, just growing. And the energy that burst from that realization has pushed me out of my ruts. It’s renewed my passion for physical therapy to the point where I’ve landed a promotion that promises new adventures. And my passion for writing, though still not quite renewed, is starting to flicker in my soul again. I have my strongest manuscript back in my hands, professionally edited and full of potential. Even if it’s never published, I will soon dive back into that adventure of my own creation. And that’s not all.
Next week I will attend my final meeting as Master of Farmington Masonic Lodge #132, and I will thank those Freemason brothers for an amazing five-year adventure that I will forever be grateful for. On that same day, I will celebrate the ribbon cutting of a new physical therapy clinic, and I will act as it’s clinic coordinator. Soon, my family and I will move to a new home—a place with explorable woods and a blank canvas of possibility.
The Sixth Age: Untitled
I have no clue what this Sixty Age will bring. I don’t know how many more Ages I’ll get to experience after that. But as I write this, I find myself smiling. The mystery fuels me, and my anxiety finally feels more like excitement again. I’m on a new adventure, and I get to take it with my three best friends: my wife is more of a trusted and true co-pilot than ever, my nearly four-year-old is in the midst of her blissful Age of Ignorance, and my seven-year-old is on the cusp of her own Second Age! What a time to be alive.
I’m about to enter the Sixth Age, friends. Another chapter of my life. And I can’t wait to share the adventure with you.

Manga the Week of 5/19/21
SEAN: As the days get warmer, why not try some manga to cool you off?
Airship debuts a new release, out next week digitally and in print next month. I Swear I Won’t Bother You Again! (Kondo wa Zettai ni Jamashimasen!) features a somewhat familiar plot – a villainess who is in prison for the crimes she has committed ends up in her past self, and is determined to do things right this time. As with many of these stories, I suspect bothering will, in fact, occur.
ASH: Ha!
SEAN: There’s also an early digital for Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear 6.
In print, we debut I Have a Secret, from the author of I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. There’s also the 2nd volume of Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games Is Tough for Mobs.
MICHELLE: I still need to read my digital copy of I Have a Secret. Soon.
ASH: I’ll probably be picking it up in print, myself.
SEAN: Dark Horse has the 3rd and final volume of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.
J-Novel Club debuts its Pulp imprint, showing us that German novels can be just as bonkers as Japanese ones. The first of these is John Sinclair: Demon Hunter (Geisterjäger John Sinclair). Scotland Yard in the 1970s hunts demons. Imagine The Sweeney but less violent.
ASH: I’m curious to see how this imprint develops!
SEAN: There’s also The Magician Who Rose from Failure 2 and Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! 6.
No print debuts for Kodansha, but we do see Blue Period 3, Cells at Work: CODE BLACK 7, Drifting Dragons 8, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 7, Living-Room Matsunaga-san 6, A Sign of Affection 2, Something’s Wrong with Us 6, and Those Not-So-Sweet Boys 2.
MICHELLE: The shoujo titles beckon to me.
ASH: Indeed! I’ve also been enjoying Drifting Dragons.
SEAN: The digital debut is Medalist, a figure skating manga from Kodansha’s Afternoon that is much acclaimed.
MICHELLE: Sports + seinen = yes.
ANNA: Oooh, I’m intrigued.
MELINDA: I need it.
SEAN: Also digital: Blue Lock 3, A Girl and Her Guard Dog 4, The Honey-Blonde Beauty & Her Vampire 2, Hop Step Sing! 3 (the final volume), We’re New at This 6, and Will it Be the World or Her? 5.
Seven Seas’ debut is the comedy Dungeon Toilet (Isekai no Toire de Dai o Suru), an Akita Shoten title from Young Champion Retsu, and if, like me, you flee in terror when you see the words “Young Champion”, you may have already stopped reading. It’s about a reincarnated kid in search of the perfect toilet in a fantasy world. Laffs no doubt ensue.
ANNA: No thank you!
MELINDA: Oh no.
SEAN: Also from Seven Seas: Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! Everyday Misadventures! 2, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord 11, The King of Fighters: A New Beginning 5, and Wonder Cat Kyuu-chan 2.
No debuts from Viz, but we do get BEASTARS 12, Hell’s Paradise Jigokuraku 8, Levius/est 8, No Guns Life 10, Urusei Yatsura 10, The Way of the Househusband 5, and Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead 2.
MICHELLE: I look forward to getting caught up on The Way of the Househusband!
ANNA: I’m actually not behind on that series!
ASH: It’s one of my favorites at the moment.
SEAN: Yen On has been doing so much shuffling of release dates lately that it’s hard to get a handle on what is due out next week, especially as the print and digital dates differ. We should definitely have the 3rd Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside and the 2nd Interspecies Reviewers.
Yen Press has similar release date blues, but definitely debuting next week is I’m the Hero, but the Demon Lord’s Also Me (Boku ga Yuusha de Maou mo Boku de), a title from Media Factory’s Comic Alive, my old nemesis. A young man is approached by a beautiful woman to be the Hero… and another beautiful woman to be the Demon Lord. Turns out it could go either way. Hard to get past that boob-laden cover, though.
Also debuting is Sex Ed 120% (Seikyouiku 120%), which runs on ASCII Mediaworks’ @Vitamin site. This seems to combine comedy and actual sex ed, as a teacher who thinks she can teach sex ed better than the modern sex ed texts tries to teach her class about various subjects. I’ve actually heard this is pretty good.
ASH: Same!
SEAN: Does this list cool you off or warm you up?

Twelve Days of Jack (December 25 - Day 12)
Summary: When Sarah is invited to casually hang out with her Friend With Benefits, Jack, and his group of friends, things suddenly get a lot more serious than she bargained for.
Word count: 1.3K
[A/N] This mini series all takes place in the run up to Christmas. Each chapter takes place the day it is uploaded.
[Extra A/N] This is the last chapter! Thank you for reading everyone!!
Day One - Day Two - Day Three - Day Four - Day Five - Day Six - Day Seven - Day Eight - Day Nine - Day Ten - Day Eleven
Sarah woke up when the family cat started meowing. She stirred, trying to roll over and go back to sleep, but Dennis wouldn’t give up.
The cat hopped off the bed, walking to the tall windows and disappearing behind the curtain. When Sarah followed and pulled them open she immediately felt the cold radiating from the glass. Reading looked freezing cold, but snowless. It was quiet in the streets at seven on Christmas morning.
She picked Dennis up and carried him downstairs in her arms, holding him close to her chest to share their warmth, and put him down next to the breakfast bar. She was the first one up, so she got the cat his food and took her time in the bathroom to shower and put on makeup.
When she was still the only one awake at half eight she went back into her bedroom and dug up her phone from her suitcase. She had a few Christmas wishes from earlier that morning and from the night before, but also one from Conor, of all people.
Conor: Hey Sarah, I don’t wanna intrude, but did something happen between you and jack?
Sarah: Hey conor. Why do you ask?
When he still hadn’t responded after she’d sent pretty much everyone in her contacts a ‘merry Christmas’, she put her phone in her pocket and took her laptop downstairs with her. Dennis had already settled on the sofa, knowing that that was the warmest place in the house right now, right next to the radiator. She picked up a blanket and wrapped it around herself, cosying up next to the cat.
She kept an eye on her phone while she rewatched some episodes of Scorpion, until David came downstairs and watched it with her.
Their parents were last, bounding down the stairs at ten, still in their pyjamas. Their father always insisted on getting a new pair of Christmas pyjamas each year, preferably a crazier one than last year. This year’s outfit was a full elf suit, including fluffy slippers. He looked positively ridiculous, but his happy grin made up for it.
“Time for presents.” Her dad announced as David handed him a cup of tea.
Sarah put her laptop down, and as she went to put her phone on top of it she noticed the notification light. Conor had responded.
Conor: He’s being grumpy af and told our mum love doesn’t exist lmao
Sarah: tbh I don’t know if something happened?? Im not sure whats going on between us anymore
Conor: can I call?
“Sarah, presents.” David poked her side.
“Yeah, I’m coming.” Sarah said as she quickly sent Conor ‘later’.
They unwrapped the fancily packaged gifts one by one, taking turns. She received a puzzle book, a little silver charm for on her bracelet, and a Dungeons and Dragons book, each neatly wrapped in shimmering paper and decorated with a bow.
David was ecstatic with the new colouring pencils she had gotten them, as he had thought the specific metallic pencils he wanted were sold out everywhere, but he hadn’t taken into account that his meticulous planner of a sister had already bought them a month before.
“Alright, I’ll put the bread rolls in the oven. Who’s setting the table?” Her mum got to her feet, taking some of the wrapping paper with her to the kitchen to throw out. David followed her, and her dad got up too.
“Do you mind if I make a quick phone call?”
Her dad glanced at his watch, “Make it a quick one. We’ll have brunch in fifteen minutes or so.”
“That’ll be plenty.” She slipped into the garden with her pink socks on the cold tiles, and slid the glass door closed behind her.
Conor picked up on the second ring, “Hello?”
“Hey Conor, it’s Sarah.”
“Oh, hey.”
She heard the noise in the background die down as he supposedly moved to a more quiet room.
“What’s going on?”
“To be real with you, Jack’s being a right dick.”
“What?”
“He was acting weird all day yesterday, too. I think I know why, though.”
“You do?”
“Yeah, I asked him what the fuck his deal was this morning.”
“And what is it?”
“You.”
“Me?”
“Yeah. Someone saw you making out with some guy in that club Saturday night and it’s got him upside down.”
“I kissed a random guy because he was flirting with some chick!”
Conor laughed, “He told me about that too. Listen, my brother’s never been in love before and I think he’s a bit shaken up about it. He tried to sleep with some girl because he’s trying to take his mind of you. I tried telling him that if you feel the same there’s no need for him to get over you, but he’s being weird.”
“I do feel the same.” She said softly. It was weird to tell it to someone other than Kailee, but now that she had said it out loud she was sure it was true. She meant it.
“Can I tell this idiot that? His sulking is ruining Christmas.”
“Yes. Tell him to call me or something, okay?”
“Will do, thanks for saving Christmas.”
“No problem. Merry Christmas, Conor.”
“Merry Christmas, Sarah.”
--
Jack didn’t call.
She had her phone in her lap during the entirety of the Christmas brunch, and then while they played Monopoly, but he never called.
She was pretty much ready to give up hope when she started Christmas dinner preparations at four. Her mum had her chopping vegetables and David sautéing some onions, when her brother, facing the driveway through the kitchen window, suddenly asked, “Are we expecting anyone?”
“I don’t think so.” Their mum responded, not looking up from where she was preparing dessert.
“It’s a chic car. I don’t think I even know people rich enough to own a car like that.”
Sarah’s heart jumped and she dropped her knife. “Jack.” She breathed when she caught side of the car.
“Excuse me?”
But she was out the door, walking onto the driveway still wiping her wet hands on her jeans.
The car door opened, and out stepped that boy that had messed things up so much for her.
“Merry Christmas.” He said weakly, but when he saw her smile his face lit up.
“Merry Christmas.” She responded. “I thought we were done.”
“So did I.”
They fell into each other’s arms, each holding the other tightly.
“I can’t stay too long, I have to be home in time for Christmas dinner. But I got you something.”
“What?” She let go of him, stepping back.
He leaned back into his car and held up a long, slender black box.
“I got you this before I fucked everything up, but when Conor told me I still had a chance I had to bring you this. It’s only fair.”
He opened the box, revealing a thin silver necklace with a little ice-skate pendant. “It’s cheesy, I know.”
“It’s perfect.” She said, reaching out to run her finger over the cool metal.
He picked it up, “Can I put it on you?”
“Yes, please.” She turned around and moved her hair out of the way.
His fingertips brushed along her skin as he laid it around her neck. She shivered, only just now realising how cold the December air was against her exposed limbs.
“Can we please stop being Friends with Benefits?” She asked as she turned back around.
“Please.” He agreed.
She pulled him in for a kiss, ignoring her family watching them through the kitchen window and ignoring everything bad that had happened between them.
This moment made up for all the heartache the two of them had put each other through.

I'm surprised ppl haven't brought up Yuuri's gaming hobby. Imagine him and Yurio playing Smash Bros with Yuuri coming out super savage on cat son. Also imagine the trio doing a let's play of Resident Evil 7 with Yuuri playing with stone, cold eyes while Yurio and Victor are scared out of their wits. Lastly, imagine Phichit and Yuuri doing LPs in off seasons during their Detroit days
(Referring to Yuuri’s Japanese Skating Federation online bio. I added the arrow and box to point where it says ゲーム“game” - gaming/video gaming)
Thinking about it…I’ve only seen maybe one or two fanfiction/Tumblr drabbles early EARLY in the season that touched on Yuuri with gaming and I think I’ve seen a couple of fanart here and there. There might be more now, but I don’t watch AO3 every hour, so I do miss some stories (if anyone knows some good fics on this, please rec them!).
I may not be as avid a player as I used to be, but that doesn’t mean I can’t talk a decent amount about video games~ I’m putting a majority of this post behind a cut because it got a bit long with musing on what game genre and platforms he might play, along with some headcanons.
I’m pretty sure Yuuri’s athlete+student lifestyle would mean the depth of his gaming hobby is going to be similar to Yuzuru’s gaming hobby - perhaps a little more since gaming is Yuuri’s only major hobby, or perhaps a little less now that Victor is spending time with him. Regarding Yuzu, he trains hard on and off the ice, balances university work, is a serious audiophile, and has other obligations (advertisements, ice shows, publicity, etc.). But when he plays games, he’s a completionist. His beloved series is Monster Hunter (check out those links for the commercials). When Yuzu has his foot in a cast, or gets out from surgery and is on bed rest, he says that he catches up on schoolwork and plays videogames.
So I imagine that Yuuri also has little time to be a hardcore gamer, but if that’s his single notable hobby, he’ll probably sink time into games that can be done on the go, or games that don’t require lots of planning and forethought (unlike, say Fire Emblem or 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors). Basically, the ideal games would be the kind that he can drop back into, see what the next quest/next dungeon is, and can get back on track. Games that feature lots of grinding, such as RPGs/MMORPGs, are good because they’re pretty straightforward, have repetitive actions/tasks, and offer a range of options and sideplots to keep them interesting for a long time.
Some games/series I headcanon him playing are Pokemon, Elder Scrolls, some of the classic Nintendo series (Mario, Zelda, and Metroid), some Square Enix RPGs (Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest), maybe the Tales of series, Monster Hunter (super popular in Japan) and he would likely play some phone app games because of their mobility. For those unfamiliar with phone gaming, there are some great developers that are capitalizing on the iOS and Android market, so it’s not like Yuuri would be limited to simpler games like fruit ninja or candy crush – after all, in real life we’re seeing a YOI x Shingeki no Bahamut collaboration.Smash Bros. and Mario Kart would be classic series I definitely see him playing with Phichit too. (I wonder which character he would pick?)Perhaps he would also have FPS (First Person Shooters) on his computer that he could play in short bursts. He doesn’t seem to have a gamer’s laptop, so I doubt he’s serious about PC gaming, but logging in every now and then and doing a few quick rounds in Left4Dead or TF2? I could see that. He doesn’t need to actively chat, and could still enjoy playing with teams - he could be the silent player who makes all the kill shots. On that note–“imagine the trio doing a let’s play of Resident Evil 7 with Yuuri playing with stone, cold eyes while Yurio and Victor are scared out of their wits.”When I read “stone, cold eyes” I immediately thought of this:
He’s got the dead-eye stare thing down.
LOL(League of Legends) and WOW (World of Warcraft) are super popular and have servers in different countries, so they could be contenders as well. He could polish his English here, too. So imagine Yuuri being super good with online slang and chatting. Even though Phichit spends a lot of time on various social media platforms and likely absorbs all sorts of English phrases, Yuuri has no trouble keeping up with any of his abbreviations and random text speak.I’m not ruling out console gaming, but he would need to have a TV to connect to and I didn’t see one in his room - unless he keeps it tucked away in the closet for some reason. Maybe on some nights when he was younger and the onsen wasn’t busy, he would pull out the GameCube or Wii and play with Mari in the living room.I can imagine him living with Victor in his apartment. While some people would share the movies they’ve liked over the years and watch them together on the couch, Yuuri would bring up that he watched much less movies than he played video games. And when Yurio comes over, he learns this and challenges him to battles – where he promptly gets destroyed (just like at the banquet). Yuuri doesn’t mean to make him feel that inferior in skill, but… he has a reputation to keep, he’s not losing to some rookie, and he knows if he went easy on Yurio then Yurio would only get even more angry.Imagine Yuuri telling Victor during breakfast about his progress in a game recently:
“So I was playing this RPG and the ice magic mod that I installed was glitching so that it drained my mana faster than my pots could replenish it even when spamming–”“Yuuri, love, I don’t have a clue what any of those terms mean. Take pity on me and explain them?”
Personally, I’m curious what character archetype he would play as. Berserker? “I just want to smash and cut things up because in real life I get so tied up in details and insecurities - this is a release.” Archer? “I don’t like being in the thick of things, and it’s super satisfying to do a kill-shot from a distance.” Mage? “I love that I get to use something that doesn’t exist in this world. But in a way, it’s like every time I skate I cast magic on the ice, so I kind of like that I can cast magic for real.”Swordsman? “I want to be the type of classic brave protagonist I could never be in real life.”Considering that now we have a collaboration for the phone app of Shingeki no Bahamut (Rage of Bahamut), I’d like to think he prefers playing as a swordsman of some sort…
I’m ending here because I could make headcanons for ages about what Yuuri would do with a game if he played it. Point is, there’s a variety of options Yuuri has if he wants to play games while travelling or training anywhere in the world, and there are certain genre he’s more likely to play because of his lifestyle’s time constraints. Gamer!Yuuri is such a fun aspect to think about.
