Managed to land a baby loop in practice today thanks to Elias standing in as "pretend coach Brian" which was nice. I left the rink having landed it which is what I set out to do.

Now for some consistency.

I'm likely to fail freeskate 4B. Not for a lack of trying. At least it will be my first repeat of this level. The other in my class have repeated at least once or twice. So its not bad company I guess.

Despite me liking Tim as a character, i don't draw him much nowadays. (probably bc i got so frustrated w the batman canon for while... it was unhealthy, now i'm just going Yolo🤙.)

ANYWAY, i wanted to test out real g-pen again but then i did a doodle w dry ink as well<3 AH I LIKE THESE DOODLES!!

School starts tomorrow and my mom just wrote an email to my teachers (particularly my gym teacher) explaining that I’m physically disabled and how my conditions affect and significantly disable me. My mom has always been my biggest advocate, my consol, and the sweetest person I know — but she’s had some trouble understanding my gender as a trans man. She called me over and asked me to re-read the email she wrote. Great start. She explains the conditions I have, how I’ve had them since birth, how I use a cane most days, and how I’m still able to figure skate at an extremely high level for a variety of reasons I won’t be getting into here. The thing that made me choke was this: she not once dead named me. She not once used she/her pronouns, only he/him. She called me her son Adam. When I asked her to add something she used my pronouns and name so fluidly.

To say when I went back to my room I cried tears of joy is such an incredibly large understatement. My heart feels like a part of it has been healed.

How I think Cherry and Joe's relationship works in the present (aka my headcanon technically but your honor they can't prove it's not canon yet until that OVA comes out)

Neither of them realize they have feelings for the other. That much is clear based on how they interact and how neither outright pursues the other. However, they do care for each other. Especially Joe. Joe deeply cares for Cherry. He worries about Cherry's race, he rushes to Cherry after the injury, he has that moment after the outro in episode 9, he is the one pushing Cherry around in the wheelchair.

But there's more than just those more obvious moments. Note that Joe says he will race Adam AFTER Cherry says he's going to race Adam. Joe wants to race Adam to "punch him in the face." Like I said in my initial analysis of the themes of this show and how it's reflected in the main relationships, Joe hates Adam because Adam is ruining skating. However, I think Joe really decides to race Adam because he knows why Cherry is racing against Adam and he can see the danger in it (like I mentioned in that post linked). Joe knows that all Cherry is looking at is Adam.

This is where some one-sidedness comes into Joe and Cherry's relationship. Joe is looking at Cherry, but Cherry's focused on Adam. This becomes very prevalent in the scene of them talking at their old hangout spot and in the flashbacks Cherry has of Adam. Cherry was, and to a degree still is, completely enamored by Adam. The scene of him watching Adam skate when they were younger parallels how Reki watches Langa skate, it's meant to tell the audience that Cherry is feeling the same way Reki did watching Langa. Pair that with "we're friends" and the catch by the waist, now there's a strong romantic undertone to their relationship based on that flashback. Cherry is wrapped up in this old flame and wanting to know why Adam refuses to interact with them after what they had. And he wants to make Adam regret it.

Joe is watching Cherry watch Adam. Joe is watching with a pit of worry in his stomach because he knows Cherry is completely focused on Adam during that race. On beating Adam. He's afraid of what will happen to Cherry, what Adam will do to him. What might happen to Cherry if he does win.

Then Cherry gets hit by Adam. We literally see the image of Adam Cherry thought he knew shatter. When Cherry says "I can still see right through you," he was never more wrong. You can't see through him at all. I could even bet you never did. The Adam that Cherry thought he knew is destroyed in that moment as Adam tells him "you're boring." Cherry is forced to face the reality of the situation.

And who is there immediately? Joe. "I'm gonna laugh when you lose" Joe panicking as Cherry is unresponsive.

Then we have the post outro scene of episode 9 (a scene I've already dissected). This is where Joe's focus on Cherry is clearest. Joe has this heartfelt moment with Cherry that Cherry is not an active participant in. It almost feels like a confession of how much Joe cares for Cherry. "At least we got this, we're not alone. You know what I mean, Kaoru?"

And then one final moment. Joe laughs with Cherry as he laughs and smiles in a way he hasn't done in the show at all. He celebrates with Cherry the downfall of Adam's legacy to the rain. The fall of this man that hurt him not only physically but emotionally.

To me, Joe is clearly in love with Cherry and doesn't realize it. Cherry definitely has feelings for Joe, but he's been so wrapped up in Adam that falling for Joe hasn't happened yet. Now that Adam is out of the picture though...
