Hello everybody, I saw a comment about this and went to investigate and I saw the the recation channel A Story Worth Telling have been suggested to react to Wtfock for Robbes season in October. The channel is run by two gay men reviewing LGBTQ+ media and they have already reacted to Skam and Skam France. You can find the comment on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8vx9YACH18 So far it has some likes but the person has asked for support in spreading the idea so the channel knows it's something a lot of people are interested in. I thought it was a cool idea and I wanted to share it. If you want to support it you can like the comment or DM the channels official instagram page: @aswtofficial
I am also tagging some fandoms that I know old Wtfock fans went to in case anyone wants to join us

A Review of Skam FR Season 3 in 2023
THINGS I LIKED 》
▪︎ The stuff w/Lucas' mom & dad-it felt a tad more in depth than some other versions
▪︎ Their chemistry
▪︎ Side characters- I like the integration and excited to learn more as I go on
▪︎ More Lucas w/the girlsquad (Lucas & Imane/ Lucas & Daphne 🖤🖤)
▪︎ Mental illness-the tone feels different, and the context for this version really leans into Eliott's feelings of isolation all to lead up to that scene of Lucas finding him (wish they would've had more time to go deeper with that, though)
DIDN'T LIKE 》
▪︎ The ending felt rushed (last ep. disappointing)
▪︎ (Sometimes scenes hit you right in the gut & are done so right), and other times it's so half-baked like they attempted to serve up a large meal & they didn't cook it- it's like I know big scenes that are coming, but they feel rushed under the circumstances/ certain stuff would not make sense in this version and it feels like things happened w/out enough development imo (but this is mainly for the first half)
▪︎ Why does the "cheating" feel so much more cruel & simultaneously it doesn't feel justified for the girls to be not understanding? There were times where Lucas & Eliott basically said 'F you' but it also felt too much, for Chloe in particular, to react so harshly (in some instances she was overreacting for what had been established in their relationship). [Eliott's gf pretty much summed it up: they were envious, and that's pretty much it in this version].
FAVORITE SCENES 》
Painting
Lucas running to/finding Eliott in their reunion-that one hit right in the feels
Minute-by-Minute-so glad they used it
The 'kissing other girls party scene'-well played
GENERAL THOUGHTS 》
This "Even"/ Eliott seems more... open..upbeat(?) than Even to me; Lucas is more confident, or maybe bold, than Isak and it changes a lot of aspects of their relationship, which is not a critique but just an observation.
I wasn't really feeling this season as much until like episode 5. The angst was so good; I preferred that much more and seeing how they reacted was more interesting to me than their cute scenes in the 1st half of the season.
Sometimes they do just get it so so right w/how heartbreaking scenes are because of the context & new interpretation...
-The boat trespassing
-Lucas crying to his roommates
-Lucas texting Eliott to stop sending him drawings, which leads to
-> the scene of Eliott being found at his spot
Overall, I enjoyed it. I like the artistic feel of Skam France, and think that those scenes are where they excel the most. I think I'll prefer them as an established couple once they show up in other seasons vs the development of their relationship as odd as that may sound.

Cries in French: Skam France Episode 1
Introduction:
Skam France is the first Skam Remake. Poor Skam France didn’t have much time to shine because Druck and Skam Italia aired before the first season had even finished. Skamfr has completed Season 2, and is renewed for Season 3 & 4. Despite its success, it doesn’t seem to be the most popular remake judging by the response on Tumblr. often called a “copy and paste” version of the original.
While there’s definitely a lot of similarities with the original, I still liked and appreciated some aspects of this episode.
This review is my opinion only and isn’t meant to offend anyone.
Clip One:
The episode begins with Yann’s video. I have issues already; isn’t the same dialogue as the original? Additionally, the video contains clips of the girl squad that occur later in the series. It breaks the realism. All criticism aside, when I watched this episode the first time I still felt chills seeing the yellow Skam logo again after the original ended.
Emma and Yann discuss his video project like the original. Ingrid and Sara (I see you Alexia!) walk by, with the Skam theme playing. Jonas tell her she’s better off without them. I guess Emma is supposed to feelsad seeing the girls, but the actress doesn’t convey any emotion. Hopefully, she’ll improve. Anyway, I’ll list a few thoughts on Jonas’s line.
1: It’s more reassuring and sweeter than the original scene.
2: I don’t think Yann has the right to say Emma is too good for Ingrid and Sara, when he used to date Ingrid.
3: For new French viewers who’ve never seen the original, it’s spoils the eventual confrontation between Emma and Ingrid at the party. They now already know the girls used to be friends.
I do like how the scene is shot. It’s a sterile, cold environment symbolizing Emma’s isolation, with the only color being Yann’s bright red jacket.
Bragging about his essay grade, Lucas walks up to them. The rest of the scene plays out similar to the original;Lucas and Yann tease Emma about her grade and then leave. I like Yann’s line about Emma making great pasta, it’s sweet.Yann and Lucas are decent actors, it’s only Emma who is unconvincing.
“Don’t Kill My Vibe” by Sigrid plays at the end. The lyrics highlight Emma’s loneliness and frustration at Yann.
Clip 2:
The song from the first clip continues. This scene is pretty similar to the original, Emma tries to write her essay and Lucas Skypes her. She questions him as to what time Yann left french!Elias’s (forgot his name, sorry). Yann climbs in through the window and sees Emma’s actual grade and reads the essay.. The only line I’ll point out is when Emma says he could have used the door as her mom isn’t home, alluding to the later reveal of Jonas never having met her mom. Skamfr is definitely more obvious than the original.
Clip 3:
Sitting in the library, Emma watches Ingrid be rude and dismissive to Daphne. I liked this little glimpse into Daphe, it makes her eventual attempt to reconnect with Ingrid’s group that much sadder as they didn’t treat her well to start with. This part wasn’t in the original and it’s one of the few changes that enhances the story. Theatre kids approach Emma, they’re amusing as usual. Emma agrees to attend said party.
Clip 4:
Emma tries to convince Yann to attend the party with her. Emma’s argument involves saying how cool is it that Adrian’s whole family will be there. First of all, neither she nor Yann know this guy so neither would care his family is coming. Secondly, how does that make the party more entertaining?
At the end of the clip, the camera lingers on Lucas’s disappointed face. For viewers unfamiliar with the original, it’s definitely a clue. They probably wouldn’t guess he likes actually Yann, but they’d think Lucas has a crush on Emma. The fake “reveal” of Lucas liking Emma is definitely foreshadowed. Most of these hints mentioned don’t add to characterization, they just make the plot more predictable.
Clip 5:
Emma sits at home, and there’s no watching Dr. Phil like in the original. Emma decides to attend the party after looking at Ingrid’s Instagram. I wished they’d replace that with an equivalent because “don’t let yourself be a victim” was a theme of Eva’s season.
Emma arrives at the party and is approached by the theatre kids who tell her about their after party. There’s a brief moment where Ingrid kicks Daphne off...whatever the french equivalent of Russ is. She finds Ingrid and the conversation happens similarly to the original. Manon approaches Emma. She seems a little nerdier than Noora, mentioning lab rats which I liked. The conversation has issues. Emma is barely listening to Manon and is dismissive, watching Ingrid dance in jealousy. Emma is physically not looking at or facing her. Manon is the one who is more invested. I can’t see Emma obsessing over whether Manon accepts her friend request like in the original or awkwardly fumbling her first message to Manon and worrying whether Manon dislikes her. Emma doesn’t care about her.
She heads to the bathroom and runs into Daphne, who is crying and asks for Alex. In the original, Eva had to ask a lot of people if they were male!Chris. He’s the first person she finds. It doesn’t have the same impact when Daphne tells her she has the wrong Alex. In the original, Vilde and girl!Chris talk about all the paper they bought and now can’t sell, later we find out Vilde was kicked off Ingrid’s Russ bus and can infer that the crying scene was after Ingrid kicked her off. Alexia tell Daphne they don’t need Ingrid or her friends. I like that Alexia seems more actively supportive than Chris, but after seeing Ingrid oust Daphne it’s very redundant and again, obvious.
Emma walks away after Daphne tells her to leave. male!Alex asks if they were going to talk as well, I really like this line a lot better than the original don’t be a dick tease, it’s a lot nicer. “Homeless” by Maria Kaye plays. It’s a lot more overstated than a lot of the more understated music played in the original, but I like it. The shot of Emma walking through the crowd is very nicely shot, with the music they chose this is the first time I feel like Skam France has a district identity from the original. Also, there’s a scene of Emma walking outside the building texting one of the theater kids about the afterparty. They don’t respond and she heads home. They’re background characters, Emma, they aren’t coming back! Anyway, it’s sad because it’s another failure at a potential friendship for Emma and she’s feeling lonelier than before.
Conclusion:
I liked the music. There’s a greater examination into Daphne’s character so far than Vilde. Alex and Emma are cute. Yann and Alex seem nicer than their original counterparts. Some of the shots are very aesthetically pleasing. Hopefully, Alexia receives more character depth than Chris in the original because I prefer her at the moment. I enjoyed the final scene. The added diversity is also great.
Skam France not only struggles as a distinct show separate from the original, but also struggles even as a copy and paste version. Almost every change they make cheapens the plot by removing suspense or emotional impact. In regards to originality, there isn’t much yet. The actress portraying Emma’s acting isn’t great. I could be biased though, because Eva was my favorite character in the original.
I hope you enjoyed this review! Druck’s first episode is next.

Hello😊 can you share your opinion on this season of skam fr so far pls? ive seen so many diff post reporting on how good it is and ofc I've seen the "wow skam fr is druck" ones, which piqued my interest. My background: I think OG is mostly incredible, ive enjoyed some seasons of eskam and Druck (I'm undecided about the current season). But ive never watched a full season of skam fr bc I didn't enjoy writing and tone, tho I did like some of the acting...Might watch skamfr based on your opinion
Hi, Anon! Thanks for your ask! Anon, your watching tastes are close to my own, so hope this is helpful. Anyway, you have to keep in mind that at the end of the day, Skam France is still Skam France 😄 It’s true that there is a new writing team this season, but they have already made serious missteps and writing choices that make me question how much has really changed, especially in relation to POC characters and redemption arcs.
Now we are about to start episode 5, so this is only based on 4 episodes so far. Let’s break this down a little more.
What Skam France has done well this season so far:
Pacing and number of clips - we have had clips almost every day and usually multiple clips per day. and it’s been a decent mix of fluff and more serious clips. episodes have all been above 20 min so far with the last episode approaching 30 min.
Using more Parisian sets/locations - i do feel like the city itself is playing a bigger role in the season compared to most, if not all, of the previous seasons, and there are some very pretty shooting locations.
Cute kids! - la mif members jo and bilal have super cute lil sweet angel siblings. 😇 i do hope we get more scenes showcasing these cuties!
Max’s official gender change - while i’m annoyed that this is almost exclusively being shown through social media, it’s still such an important storyline to cover. and hopefully helps guide others watching who need help navigating this system!
Avoiding tiff being transphobic (so far!) - max is clearly the main love interest for tiff this season, and it looks like we might avoid the tiff being transphobic storyline.
Finally, lucie and flavie (tiff and lola) make some nice acting choices.
What Skam France has NOT done well this season so far:
The underlying premise of tiff as main - at the end of the day, the main is still a conventionally attractive, thin, cis, white straight girl who was a horrible bully to last season’s main, lola. given skam france’s historically bad representation choices, especially of POC/Muslim characters, the fact that the new writers loved this character so much to make her the main when so many other choices existed says a lot.
No apology from tiff to lola - earlier this season we had lola call out tiff for her bullying, and other characters have mentioned it to tiff as well, and yet we have had no acknowledgment by tiff that what she did to lola was wrong or even show any personal responsibility for it. rather, when confronted by lola, tiff pointed to her own problems, and referenced her pregnancy. cue all the la mif members, including MAYA!, coddling tiff and subsequently tiff and lola becoming besties. talk about poor writing choices! for an analogy, imagine if the druck s7 main was constantin who all of a sudden became besties with ava after telling her some sob story about his life. it’s just hard to sympathize with a main who has made no effort in earning her redemption arc and righting her wrongs, and we are almost halfway through the season.
Treatment of black characters - the depiction of the two main black characters this season, aurélien and judith, has been horrible. they are often shown in dark, confined spaces (like bathrooms) with dramatic/menacing music overlayed over the scene. and as for conduct, aurélien has not only ghosted tiff but also physically pushes her in a scene. judith is also shown as an antagonist to tiff and confronts her in one bathroom scene that could be straight out of a horror film (the music! yikes!)
Sidelining of other MOC characters - the other MOC characters this season, bilal and redouane, are currently acting out the trope of POC characters being part of the comic relief for a season. there is a rumor that bilal may be the s8 main, but we’ll have to see.
And one last point - honestly, a lot of people just watch skam for the cute ships, and there is always a ton of angst and criticism whenever a skam remake separates or breaks up a ship. given that there are a fair number of scenes with tiff/max and it’s all cute and low drama, i think that has fed into the commentary surrounding this season too, so there you go.

So the famous siblings that were promised and used to get us to watch the season didn't even get one scene together in the season's finale where Lola was the main and Eliott a half main?? Lmao the writers really didn't give a damn about their storyline and the fact that nobody is complaining abt the lack of them together shows that we really really didn't care either

Review #01: Druck
I first became obsessed with Skam, the norweigian televison series about teenagers, back in 2016. By this time, everyone on tumblr knows what it is or some version of Skam. I mean it's trending all the time. I had kept up with each remake, occasionally falling off if it was an especially boring season or remake (Skam Austin, sorry about it) but I had always kept up with Druck, the German remake of Skam. This show has encaptured the heart of the original Skam that has not been accomplished in the other remakes. Skam was about relatability to their teenage audience and how complicated teenagers are. Some remakes simply oversimplify the teenagers and their problems (Skam France for example). But Druck understands the essence of the original and more. For example, Vilde in the original is an annoying character when you look at her at surface level. But when you take a closer look she is a girl who is very insecure and just more open about it then the average person. She's a complicated character written with care that other shows would not give her. In Skam Italia, instead of taking a deeper look into Vilde's character, they simply made her spacey and dreamy, dumbing her down. They didn't try to look into why she is the way she is in Skam but Druck does. They show Kiki as vocal about her insecurities and her thoughts and not dumbing her down in anyway. She's similar to Vilde in the way that she's fixated on her problems but different in the way where Kiki is more socially aware and Vilde is not. Druck also shoots their clips similar to Skam that give it that unofficial feel to it, so to speak. They film using strictly handheld camera and no pan or dolly shots and if they do it's rare, same as Skam. But Skam Italia and Skam France look especially professional since they have lots of shots to cut to that are steady and there's particular lighting that isn't like Skam at all. Take this how you want to since you could prefer the better shots. Personally, I think this takes the relatability and closeness we feel with the characters out and replaces it with aesthetically pleasing shots and I don't love it. I prefer to feel a bond with our season's characters.
In conclusion! Druck is the superior remake in my opinion. All the other remakes have certain traits that make them likeable that I can appreciate but there's a vibe from Druck that is just dead on Skam vibes. Final rating! 9/10

finished skam fr s5...
...and i’m still like ???????????????????????????
for obvious reasons, i can’t do what i did with my last four posts, which is to compare the season to og standards, so i’ll just be naming the things that i liked and disliked from the season yay
things that i liked!
i know that a lot of people hate the overly dark/cold tones of the cinematography but i personally really like it, i think it really sets the mood and it makes night shots look really good, and it helps to achieve a better atmosphere for their more dramatic plotlines
didn’t mention this on my s4 review but the daphné/basile relationship is def an improvement here and i like that the relationship didn’t exist to piss the main, serious characters off, but that it’s basically a way to keep up with daphné... sort of. sigh. only downside is that they’re like, asking me to forget how creepy and annoying basile was on s3, and no, i won’t magically forget it.
if there were any rushed dialogue scenes, there were very few bc i almost didn’t realize that so props to skamfr to finally learn how to construct a believable scene!!! ok but like. why do they do it right when the skam seasons are over. were they trying to compensate og’s love for awkward silences and dragged out conversations? we’ll never know i guess
that scene where alexia had her concert was really good! it was a very good atmosphere and it got in my feels right away. i’m personally not a big fan of musical scenes on the skamverse bc most of the time they lack purpose (well, that’s mostly a skames problem anyway) but alexia’s voice is nice and the emotional impact of it all was really well done, i’m glad they held off from having arthur and alexia talk before that scene because it did wonders to show how alexia felt and what her feelings were after giving her some time to be sad and mad.
i liked most of the new characters. arthur’s mom is really sweet although there’s not a lot about her, but her later scenes were really good. camille is a great supporting character, he does feel very different to the girl + boy squad and has a personality outside being noeé’s translator and general exposition machine. noeé is a great addition, and i really liked her even on her most questionable moments; the actress has a nice way to portray her as both sweet and soft, and a person who stands up for herself and takes no shit from anyone (or almost anyone). the new classmates were... funny? in that scene where they’re trying to come up w ideas of what to present to the school.
the scenes of noeé and arthur bonding are very endearing if you forget that he’s cheating on alexia with her. they’re really well done, and they have a really nice chemistry. it really makes me wish that arthur would’ve been single at the start of the season so his infatuation for her would’ve bring him to meet the community and find home with people like him, instead of... what we got. it wouldn’t even have to end with arthur and noeé getting together, maybe they could’ve realized that their relationship wouldn’t work at this stage of their lives and they could’ve give each other some time to mature and get back if those feelings never changed.
that’s... it
things i didn’t like
ohhh boy. this season is a mess... my main complaint. i feel like they laid some interesting themes to be resolved, but then arthur like completes his arc midway through the season so they make him go through that stupid love triangle and then he smokes weed with his mom and we get whatever scene of them holding hands and looking at their silhouettes and i’m supposed to be alright with it???
the love triangle thing annoys me so much because like... there was no reason to make alexia and arthur be together? at first i thought they were kind of what magnus x vilde is supposed to be, aka, the kinda on the nose couple that only has sex and nothing else, i thought that was what they were implying, but then they were SO damn obnoxious with all the kissing and “i love you”s and,,,, is not like we get to know a whole lot about alexia’s background or whatever, and when she opens up it’s like used against her later on, as her insecurities become true when arthur falls for noeé. and it wasn’t like arthur and alexia’s relationship changed in any special way when he became completely deaf? he basically had the same relationship beat for beat with le gang like. do you even realize that they crucial moments regarding alexia and arthur’s deafness happened at the SAME time that it happened w le gang? like, arthur being revealed to have hearing aids, and then arthur reconciliating w them. IN THE SAME CLIPS!!!! first i thought, okay, maybe having a character of the boy squad date someone from the girl squad is a way to keep up w the girl squad without it being jarring or changing the pov, but then it doesn’t happen? when arthur and alexia talk to each other it’s always about them as characters and almost never about what the girl squad is up to. we don’t get a single manon update in the season if i recall correctly, and then when the season wants us to focus on daphné it does so by changing to basile’s focus...... so yeah, i don’t really understand the reasoning behind making alexia and arthur be together during this season is, since it really doesn’t serve to any of the characters in any meaningful way, other than to have some romantic drama because of fucking course. (but hold up, i’ll come back to this later)
but speaking of, the reveal of arthur wearing hearing aids... they really played their non-consensual reveals to the max in this season, oof... from basile hearing that arthur and alexia weren’t having sex anymore (seriously,,,), that stupid reveal moment where the teacher picks on arthur AFTER the class to make him take his beanie off ???? (i was in a very strict school but they obviously let us keep our coats and beanies during recess what the hell?? could it be a little bit less forced maybe?), and then the stupid dinner w arthur’s parents scene in which arthur really was making alexia’s life a living hell, outing her and doing the most to make his father hate her (and then arthur’s father saying that arthur was with noeé, oh what a fucking mess)
like how am i supposed to believe arthur loves her that much if he’s desperate to make her feel as uncomfortable and violated as possible in times where she doesn’t have agency on the situation? what a fucking asshole
which brings me to the point... arthur is an asshole. like, that’s a character trait of him. and he isn’t an asshole in the slightly endearing grumpy way isak is (or is supposed to be if you’re an isak hater), but in such an unrealistic way that makes it so hard to root for him. there are so many times in which he’s mean just for the sake of it... family dinner with alexia is an example, but also the whole confrontation with noeé where he’s run by a car (i can’t believe i just typed that sentence), and maybe i’m not french and i can’t really say a lot about it but the delivery of his lines in general, especially during comedic situations, comes out as mean-spirited, like he secretly hates all of it. it’s sad because in previous seasons - well, more like s3 cause we saw him twice on s4 and that’s it, he’s established to be kinda nice and wholesome to the point that he didn’t even need lucas to apologize to him after he assaulted him and broke his glasses. it’s... out of the blue and it doesn’t really help his character at all.
i’m just piggybacking of every bad thing that i’m mentioning so far, but the scene with the confrontation with noeé is so fucking awful???? like, for starters, i have to say that while skamfr at first devoted a lot of time fleshing out the “between two worlds” concept with arthur and for the most part i thought it was well done - again, i’m a hearing person but it didn’t feel either super preachy nor offensive, and for the most part the pacing and dialogue were good. but then skamfr did a choice that i think is the root of every problem i have with arthur and noeé’s relationship, which is to make the entire d/hoh community in arthur’s life to only be represented through noeé. like: noeé is the first deaf person arthur meets in the season and his infatuation w her mixed with his curiosity for the d/hoh community is what drives him to involve himself with the association, he misses on being with alexia because he’s at the association’s meetings, arthur’s efforts to learning fsl are brought down to the fact that he should want to communicate with noeé in an easier way, and then everything is basically brought down to a noeé vs alexia’s conflict for arthur, that basically means hearing world vs d/hoh community. and...... it’s badly done because of course arthur is not gonna date both of them at the same time, which means that he’s gonna have to choose between alexia (hearing world) and noeé (d/hoh community) and it SHOULDN’T be the message... the whole thing is that arthur had to learn to balance both worlds, that’s the whole meaning behind the name she gives him..... so when the show wraps up arthur’s struggle with coming to terms with his deafness midway through the show and heads over to the love triangle drama, you’d think that arthur is fine with both worlds now that his only problems stem from having to choose between those two girls (which is already a bad situation), but then the confrontation comes, and all that was there about arthur learning to balance those two things, all of this growth is like, completely undone. basically the reasons he gives her to not wanting a relationship come down to their inability to communicate properly as a couple, but it feels cheap when noeé is the one making efforts to understand what arthur says while arthur does nothing. he calls his “love” for her a WHIM ffs... and then basically mocks fsl by saying they’re playing “guessing games with their hands”. it’s SO offensive to noeé and their entire relationship up until that point... if noeé was supposed to be not only the bridge to the d/hoh world but someone arthur falls in love with, enough to cheat on alexia with her, if noeé is supposed to represent the d/hoh community in the season, then why the fuck is arthur being so offensive and mean to fsl, which she mentioned was “her place” in a previous clip. it’s just... so stupidly harsh to noeé and her story and her entire character. even if she knew that arthur had a gf in the moment they had that very long “date” (i’m inclined to say she thought they had broken up) that doesn’t justify arthur being HORRIBLE to her. also he didn’t even let her talk???? he physically removed her hands multiple times so she couldn’t write on her phone, to the point where she had to feel the need to speak to him. and.... it’s just such a horrible thing to see, watch this actress who made the most to avoid talking in that scene (suggesting a playback in the scene which would’ve worked just as “well”, but without the super bad implications irl) having to beg arthur for his love after he treated her like shit, shitting on her community and the language which she found comfort in..... and then this fucking, lol, soap opera cut to the lights of the car and this is the first skam character in a fucking car crash???????
just..... i just know that that’s something og would’ve never done, and for a good reason. watching the clip was a rollercoaster, of built-up frustration and then anger to arthur, then noeé for using her voice as a super dramatic factor, to the surprise laughter upong seeing this car coming out of fucking nowhere?????? and it doesn’t serve absolutely anything for the plot. ANYTHING. arthur recovers in two (three?) days without a scratch and the show just picks up exactly where it left.
i think that scene only exists because maybe they made arrangements to rent a hospital room because arthur does spend time at the doctor, but then as they were filming the thing they realized they didn’t need it anymore, so they were like “how do we get any important character in a hospital room so we don’t waste this money?” and some fucking genius person was like “what if arthur is there because he’s run over by a car for like two scenes and then back to normal drama?” and everyone was like “brilliant. let’s write the worst skamverse scene in history right away”
sorry i have a lot of feelings about it okay
this season does the annoying trope that i hate, which is to put women in potentially risky/dangerous situations just so they can show how Badass they are, aka, the scene of noeé headbutting a creep on the club. what i hate the most about it is that the scene didn’t... really establish anything new for noeé. we already know that she’s strong and doesn’t let anyone walk over her bc like half of her previous scenes, so at best they just wanted a reason to make them... exit the club? uh, couldn’t it be anything else??????????
why are mika and lisa there!!!!!!!! i hate them and they have nothing to do in the story. nothing! they’re just there to fill out space because the actors have to get their bread. also camille is a genuinely nice dude.... why did they make him end up with mika :/ you deserve better honey (also why did lisa look so pissed off when mika and camille were making out.... she has the strongest straight vibes in the show and that’s not a soft statement to make)
ignoring s4, i never really had a problem with emma during the show. i missed on this when i did my s1 and s2 reviews but i really like that the actress’ portrayal of emma is silly enough in s1 that her party-girl change in s2 and forward isn’t that harsh, and she has a balanced characterization and portrayal throughout the whole show. hovewer...... it’s as late as ep 8 that we learn about arthur’s dad having an affair with emma’s mother, and up until that point i can’t remember if emma and arthur ever.... talked to each other as real friends? even within the girl + boy squad?cause when they talk again after emma confirms that the affair did in fact exist, she’s like so eager to be “arthur’s half sister” and they have this cute friendship that.... only shows up now? and only once on a previous clip???? (maybe twice if you’re pushing it) and what’s worse, is that after arthur is revealed to cheating on alexia, emma sides with HIM!!!!!!!!!! for some reason. and she never asks him about it, never sits down and says “i love you but you hurt my friend and i wanna know why so i can see if i can forgive you”, she just.... goes with him and that’s it. and like lol, why is the girl squad so shitty..... is like, this guy cheated on my friend and now she’s super sad, huh, it’s time toooooo side with the guy i barely know who broke my friend’s heart!!! and based on arthur’s surprise, i doubt their relationship was strong enough to have her put arthur before alexia, whom she’s been friends with for two years, when she only talked to arthur in two (three?) instances during the entire show.... lol. have one of the guys side with him, please, it doesn’t even make sense........ at least devote more time to make their friendship and her decision a bit more believable.
and then that whole message about cheating... it’s so bad! why do they have elliot, an explicit (pan? bi?) character be so pro-cheating. like looking at it like that it’s so obvious why lucas would be afraid that elliot would cheat on him because elliot gives him all the reasons to do so... as much as i HATE to say that bc i’m bi myself and i know that’s just a shitty stereotype. in that context, arthur’s reply about elliot’s sexuality having nothing to do with his er, cheating tendencies (?) is so shallow and does nothing to address lucas’ insecurities because elliot is the certified cheater of the show :/ and then yann and lucas siding with this pro-cheating mentality (other two cheaters), to the point that basile is the only one raising valid points... that’s falling really, really low. they’re like “ohhh poor arthur is sad that alexia is mad at him :(” and DEFEND him when he experiences the consequences of his actions.... oof. i don’t know what else to say. why does the boy squad have to be so “wholesome” and supportive only by enabling his cheating at the cost to saying fuck you to alexia and every other women they’re cheated on....
(do you ever think about the implications of the boy squad reuniting to shit on arthur for being deaf and throwing their whole dynamic down, only to come together to support him when they learn that he cheated on one of their friends? yeah)
the scene of the disability campaign or whatever that thing was called was... cringy. whoever wrote that doesn’t understand how real life teenagers behave and react and that’s all i’ll say in the matter. honestly....... what purpose did it serve? nothing. everything else we already saw and learnt much better on the rest of the season.
i didn’t have that much problems with alexia during the show - i don’t think i even have to mention how dirty they did her and how she only shared her insecurities to being proven true later on the season, but... i saw again a glimpse of her weird s4 behavior on that valentine’s day scene. i mean, i do get where they’re coming from (aggressiveness aside), as arthur was avoiding all of them for a long time and it was very hard to get him to be honest and vulnerable w them, but then when he was vulnerable they paid him like this? and it’s not like arthur was avoiding them because he wanted to, he was trying to balance his new life with the old one and getting to know and involve himself with a brand new community.... and it’s just, so insensitive for them to never realize that? and have arthur be the bad one in the story... i’m glad that, unlike the imane scene in s4, he was able to speak up and made some good points right away, but that entire scene is so off to me. is it kinda a s3 parallel to have lucas be so mad for no reason? as i mentioned on my s3 review they made lots of efforts to establish him to be way nicer and emotionally sensitive than isak, yet he’s out there saying the meaniest things to arthur just so that arthur had a cool thing to spit back at him? sigh. i hate that scene even more when i remember that the boy squad never really apologized to arthur for it :/
i didn’t like how they glossed over the abusive parent storyline. especially in that scene where noeé just... makes out with arthur after he opens up to her, yikes. i didn’t feel like there was enough time to go through the consequences of arthur “returning” the abuse/realizing he behaves “just like his dad”, and at the end we don’t get to know whether if arthur and her mom moved out or his dad did. maybe if they had used that pointless trip episode to raise the tension between arthur and his dad it wouldn’t have felt so rushed. which brings me to....
the basile’s grandpa episode. look.............. maybe i can be biased, yes, but in theory there’s nothing wrong with an episode that has nothing to do with the plot..... if it has anything to do with characters instead. but this doesn’t. this episode tells me absolutely nothing new about the characters, there’s no development to arthur and alexia’s reconciliation that wasn’t done in the clip where they reunite, there’s nothing new to be said about the girl squad or any of the girls in general, and the pov-detached clips just feel so.... pandering to certain stans. cof cof elu fans and the ones who want a daphné season. it just... really shows that the show didn’t really knew what to do with a new season. while i think that it made sense to make arthur and alexia go back to the status quo for a while before he made up his mind about noeé, this wasn’t the best way to do it.
like, can we talk about the potential of that daphné x basile scene? how it could’ve planted the first seeds for the s6 main? yet all they did was make it into a joke about how stupid basile is and how mad daphné is at him? :/
eh i guess that’s it
the start of s5 seemed promising as i thought they managed a... decent balanced between their heightened drama and a more realistic storytelling that it’s characteristic of the show they’re based on, but the season slowly derailed when it played the classic love triangle element that basically threw shit all over arthur’s development and involvement with the d/hoh community, and the out of the blue dramatic scenes really showed me that they haven’t learned their lesson yet. 4/10 for a good start but an absolute mess of an end to the story of the girl and boy squad.
