Am I delulu?

Anyways... seriously y'all. I started publicly sharing B/V stuff in March. I'm just a girly from Boston who is obsessed with ice dance and the athletic, emotional moments it creates. I also enjoy its connection to art. Their 2023 FD reminds me so much of the above painting. I like to post comparisons and Kiki with the girls. Ice dance slays so hard bc I've never seen anything like it before! I really earnestly just enjoy all of the mechanics.

The dedication, the performance. Y'all caught me vicariously living, babes! We all wish we could've been something like a ballerina or an ice skater. Seeing Bella skate, inspires me to do the things that little me dreamed of. Still! Which I enjoy just as equally. Because everyone seems so grumpy all the time and I love having something to cheer for and believe in. I've competed for 2 bike races since following Bella. Because I'm rooting for someone who does cool stuff and think, wait I can do cool stuff too. And the duo for sure inspires me to paint and write and listen to good music and all that other important stuff. Like a good tv show or my favorite book would.

But this is my crutch, y'all. These are very real people. Celebrity and influencer culture makes us depersonalize the figures sharing their lives. I can def see how I get lost in the delulu of their skating story, and Bella's underdog lore (which is mainly why I'm here y'all). I know it's still a risk that skaters can see this post, but I just wanna yap to no one about how weird the modern world is. And I think Tumblr is probably the most private place out of all socials to yap anyways.

So, my point. I feel weird! I feel so weird making edits and talking about how inspired I am by these strangers, especially when the inspiring strangers can see😭. Bella follows my insta account (as well as a bunch of others) bc she's a cool and connective girl broooo like Bella pls don't unfollow girly I'm just saying I don't wanna freak anyone out 😭🫶. Cause I couldn't imagine all these people being so focused on my life and what I do, it might stress me out bad yall.

I know I'm delulu, but more so I'm sensitive. That's why I like this sport. And I like to chit chat!!! Combined with this hyper digital, often fantasy focused world we live in (movies, tv, sports, books) I don't want to be confused with some crazy person who can't decipher boundaries bc I run an active stan account. And no hate to my fellow Stan accounts, this scenario feels unique bc ice skating fan accounts have audiences that often include people in the skater's communities or families, if not the skater themselves. It's not like I'm posting about Taylor Swift who won't see it. Girl, my T-swift is 5'ft tall and can jump 6ft high in the air. Her Eras Tour starts in Lake Placid this July😭. And you bet your ass I need to talk about it!

But I also gotta remind myself that this isn't my favorite TV show but people's real lives. Like fr. Sometimes the competition is so good you'd think it was scripted, y'all. God, like let me keep yapping forever huh?

Anyways, I am so glad I get to connect with my favorite athlete, as I'm sure her other fans appreciate it too. She's honest and open to chat for a reason, it keeps us feeling like we are on the road to the Olympics with her. I'm gunna keep posting cause I love the idea of turning all of booktok on her lore and getting a million people to root for them so I can see them at freaking SKAM 🤨. The conversation between influencer and audience is just hella interesting. And I hope I'm towing the line okay!

A Review of Skam FR Season 3 in 2023

THINGS I LIKED 》

▪︎ The stuff w/Lucas' mom & dad-it felt a tad more in depth than some other versions

▪︎ Their chemistry

▪︎ Side characters- I like the integration and excited to learn more as I go on

▪︎ More Lucas w/the girlsquad (Lucas & Imane/ Lucas & Daphne 🖤🖤)

▪︎ Mental illness-the tone feels different, and the context for this version really leans into Eliott's feelings of isolation all to lead up to that scene of Lucas finding him (wish they would've had more time to go deeper with that, though)

DIDN'T LIKE 》

▪︎ The ending felt rushed (last ep. disappointing)

▪︎ (Sometimes scenes hit you right in the gut & are done so right), and other times it's so half-baked like they attempted to serve up a large meal & they didn't cook it- it's like I know big scenes that are coming, but they feel rushed under the circumstances/ certain stuff would not make sense in this version and it feels like things happened w/out enough development imo (but this is mainly for the first half)

▪︎ Why does the "cheating" feel so much more cruel & simultaneously it doesn't feel justified for the girls to be not understanding? There were times where Lucas & Eliott basically said 'F you' but it also felt too much, for Chloe in particular, to react so harshly (in some instances she was overreacting for what had been established in their relationship). [Eliott's gf pretty much summed it up: they were envious, and that's pretty much it in this version].

GENERAL THOUGHTS 》

This "Even"/ Eliott seems more... open..upbeat(?) than Even to me; Lucas is more confident, or maybe bold, than Isak and it changes a lot of aspects of their relationship, which is not a critique but just an observation.

I wasn't really feeling this season as much until like episode 5. The angst was so good; I preferred that much more and seeing how they reacted was more interesting to me than their cute scenes in the 1st half of the season.

Sometimes they do just get it so so right w/how heartbreaking scenes are because of the context & new interpretation...

Overall, I enjoyed it. I like the artistic feel of Skam France, and think that those scenes are where they excel the most. I think I'll prefer them as an established couple once they show up in other seasons vs the development of their relationship as odd as that may sound.

Now that season 5 of Skam France is over, can we finally address the fact that the entire fandom and Lucas was okay with Elliot *stealing* Bas' grandpa's rabbit.

Like, I mean, Fifi wasn't a random rabbit that Elliot just found. No, no no, she had a cage and was on the farm and being taken care of. Elliot just saw her and went 'omg that's so cute, I want it' (which is what I assumed what he thought when he first saw Lucas as well) and then Lucas tried to say no to stealing the rabbit, but then he (and the ENTIRE FANDOM) became a willing accomplice because Elliot made the face, lol.

I've been thinking about this all day and I realized just what a tough job it is to write skam France's season 5 truly is, and this isn't going to be all praises and or all bash, feel free to scroll away, these are just personal opinions after I had some time to revisit a few of my favorite clips from s6 (and anyone who follows me knows I've had opinions this season)

Okay, so first, let's talk audience. Skam France is a remake, specifically, it is the first out of 7 remakes, it's a fandom that has 8 versions of the same show and unlike, say, the office, the fandom between these remakes may not be a perfect circle, it overlaps far more than any other remakes ive ever encountered. So step 1, there's been very little"surprises" for years now. These structures are very predicable, fans can anticipate hell week and reunions and breakups like a seasoned farmer predicting yield. And who led the way in all this? The french version, and fans of the show are people who had time to get used to the idea of a remake, and had time to watch other remakes grow. A lot of people either watched the original, or went back and watched the original, especially the international audiences. So here's audience 1,fans who loves the original, or even other remakes, and want to see more of it. They look at s5, look at the show that started this remake trend, and sees it as an og revival, the closet they'll get to the gang coming back together sorta way.

Next, there's no way around this, but skamfr blew up with season 3, and full disclosure, i am one of those people. So we get drawn in and Elu is just beautifully written, I've never seen a story like theirs before, and it's sadly representation that I've been craving. And i go back and watched the other seasons and good or bad, skam has tackled some hard to swallow pills in their seasons. So here's audience 2, people who came and stayed for good representation, who saw what they related to and stayed to watch what other people might relate to, and the skam format is just so good at getting you inside someone's head, it's easy to walk a mile in someone's shoes.

So s5 picked a really, really good topic. We learned right off the bat our main has health problems, and I've never seen many main characters with disabilities before (full metal alchemist is the only one that comes to mind). And we get to discover his journey navigating a world where not everything is catered to suit him anymore, where his disabilities will be a constant reminder as he goes through even the little tasks in life. And the show did some amazing clips, first with the 7am ones all in a row, we are so feeling the denial, the anger, and then this shame. I also love the clip when Arthur first visit the association, and he claps, but everyone else does jazz hands. It's a small thing but shows how different things are and how much he still has to learn. It's truly a community, with its own customs and culture. Another scene I loved is how his interactions with le gang progressed. Le gang went from ignoring his new disability like nothings happening, to joking about his ears, and they had this teaching moment with the boys choosing a dark, overstimulated activity, laser tag, and not fully considering Arthur's POV. This causes tension with friends and Arthur isolated himself for a weekend. Le gang reacts by lying and getting caught and chewed out. This is all so perfect and I loved the growth and how real everyone was. Arthur calling them out? Perfect 👌

And then things starts to deviate from what audience 1 and 2 wants. See, if this show aired on the CW, no one would bat an eye at the love triangle, but the first 6 episodes were set up so well, and there was this foreshadowing of his dad's abuse, his dissatisfaction with his career choice, but the story pivots, ignoring who they're showing this to.

Audience 1 has their bar set on a show that sparked the most remakes in history in 3 short years, that is quite the pedestal to live up to. Audience 1 hasn't had a surprise in years and this is a brand new thing, naturally people would want to stick to what they loved before, and what people loved before was how different show is, how refreshingly they approached certain tough topics.

Audience 2 treats the show like it's an educational show, it's not what we see on the CW or abcfamily or any other teen dramas hollywood churns out at a dime a dozen, therefore this love triangle? It's conforming to the same things we get everywhere else and that's the most condemning thing to audience 2. So now, unless you came to s5 with a fresh mindset and don't fall into either of the above groups, you suddenly feel betrayed, this is not what you had been promised, even if the show had made no promises. so what could've been treated as a minor seasonal slump turns into a lot of anger and hate. I'm not saying the format of instant gratification, or the wild rumors that ran around didn't escalate things, but this was a very specific, very demanding audience the writers had to write for, and unfortunately, they took an easy route, and lost some of the key ingredients that made their audience love them in the first place.

Not sure where they are going following a girl who has externalizing behaviors due to mental illness -- and specifically has risky sexualized behaviors. It’s just not that engaging compared to some previous seasons’ main focus.

But let’s see where this goes.
