Nothing new was announced. It is infinity week though so we've got the rest of the week! They're going to show the whole series on niconico for Reki's birthday with Hatanaka commenting on Ep 1. (They're just showing the episodes on niconico, Hatanaka will be commenting as it airs on instagram live)

What do you like about Marie and Jordan individually and what do you like about them as a pair?

Thank you for the ask! ❤️

For Marie, I just love her so much. First of all, I am always happy to see a black girl lead in any kind of diverse, non-stereotypical, non-sassy-side character role like this.

But I also appreciated how realistic she was. Like, I understood almost every choice she made. I saw people get mad at her at the start for not always doing the altruistic, "right thing", but for most people, self-preservation comes first. She didn't owe those other characters anything (especially after how they treated her) and I loved that she had a back bone and would actually talk back to people. But at her core, she is still a good person despite everything that has happened to her and still chooses not to be corrupted by Vought's influence once she understands the true material cost.

For Jordan, they're just such a nuanced character. One, I always have a soft-spot for the Lancer character archetype. The highly capable, second best, who can never quite out-do the main character (e.i. bakugo, reki (from sk8), Ron from HP (fuck jkr, but no other examples are coming to me atm)), and Jordan is just that. Like, yeah, they were kind of a bitch at the start, but it's so clear that they are secretly a softie and the world and their experiences have forced them to have a tough shell. Also, their powers as an allegory for gender identity, yes, it's on the nose (although, as someone who grew up reading 90s/2000s manga like Ranma 1/2, not that unheard of), but I think the show handled questions of their identity really well.

And finally for Limoreau...

idk where to start. tbh, as someone who has been hyper fixating on characters and ships since high school, I never really have a clear explanation of why I ship the characters I do. I either like it or I don't. But Limoreau is such a pleasant surprise because the chemistry was there from the start, but it felt like one of those queer dynamics that the writers would be too scared to pursue (think Arthur/merlin or Gojo/Geto). I think the fact that our MAIN PAIRING is a queer, interracial couple with no white people, shouldn't be as revolutionary as it is in 2023, but it is! I hope this is a positive direction for on-screen storytelling.

But also everyone loves a classic "enemies to lovers" (yes, I know they're not EtL in the true sense, but I consider Rivals-to-lovers as a subset of EtL, so I'm using it as an umbrella term). I think the reason people like EtL dynamics (Especially in het pairings) is that there is always an underlying respect beneath the "hatred". Like, to see someone as a threat, you have to see them as at least an equal.

It was clear from the start that Marie and Jordan were more alike than different and it was Vought and the corrupt nature of Godolkin pushing them to compete. They're both lonely in different ways, and I love the idea of them finding acceptance and a home with each other (Also all three actors are extremely attractive and have great chemistry, so that never hurts).

Do I wish their relationship had been paced out a bit more? Yes. But that was my issue with all of Gen V. I think the whole show would have benefitted from 12 eps, instead of 8, because development was needed in most areas.

I also just want to note, for all the people saying their relationship "came out of nowhere", I truly feel that if Marie looked like Erin Moriarty and Jordan looked like Chace Crawford, most people would have clocked the romance from the beginning, jus saying...

SK8 Pronouns Reference Sheet

here's a little project i've been working on the last few days: a reference chart for all the first- and second-person pronouns the eight main sk8 guys use! this is based on the official japanese release of chill out and my own listening to the anime, so disclaimer that i may have missed a line!

the ones highlighted in yellow are cases where the character was included in a group that was referred to with "omaera" (plural form of "omae") but hasn't been referred to with "omae" one-on-one. boxes that are empty completely are cases where the character's never (to the best of my knowledge) referred to the other character with a second-person pronoun (or their name in the same grammatical function.)

also, this is based on what the characters normally use! there are exceptions:

- miya refers to langa with "kimi" in one line (when he says "your friend will become a dog because of you") but always uses his name once they're friends

- adam switches to "ore" for himself in a couple scenes only with tadashi, when he's particularly talking down to him (he otherwise always uses "boku", including when he's talking to himself and in his own thoughts, so the use of "ore" in those lines is definitely a deliberate affect)

- adam calls reki "omae" right after the episode 11 beef ("do you think a nothing like you really put up a successful defense?")

- adam refers to joe and cherry with "omaera"/"omaetachi" in the high school flashbacks, meaning he talked with them more like reki and langa talk to each other when they were all teenagers :') (he does, however, use "kimi" with the unnamed boy he skates with on the cliff in ep 8!)

- shadow uses "boku" for himself at work to be more polite/professional around his manager (cherry almost certainly uses more polite language in his day job but he doesn't use any pronouns in the scenes we see)

this was a labor of love and autism, i hope this is useful or at least interesting to others!

This week is Sk8 3rd anniversary.... So for celebrating, can I ask a few things :

- Who are your fav character from this series? Why?

- What are your fav moments from this series?

- What are your opinions on this fandom's famous ships : Reki/ Langa, Cherry/ Joe, Adam/ Tadashi?

I'm very very late on this, sorry!! Thank you for the ask 😊

Favorite characters:

- Reki. He's a great mc i think, he's energetic, creative and relatable. The fact that he builds his own skateboards is incredible and it's so sad that he was so insecure about his skating just because Langa has become better. Langa's great obviously but for me Reki he's actually better. He can skate really well and more, he puts all his creativity into his passion. It makes his character endearing and more interesting.

- Langa. He is great as a second main character, I like him, i can relate to him as i'm also an introvert. I like how he immediately falls in love with skating thanks to Reki and puts all his passion into it. We can see that sharing something he loves with someone again lit a spark in him. That's beautiful.

Favorite moments:

- Every moment with Reki and Langa for sure. They have the cutest friendship I've ever seen in an anime and their relationship is the best thing imo, it's so natural and effortless.

- That scene on the beach with Langa and Reki "I'll protect you" lmao and Miya pretending to be Joe's son, hilarious!!

- The "coming out" scene in ep 8. Not gonna dive into whether Langa has romantic feelings for Reki or not, but just the scene in itself. It's a sweet moment between mother and son, a mother who doesn't know how to talk to his teenager and a son who's not demonstrative when it comes to personal feelings, but here he seeks advice from his mom and idk I just really liked that moment.

My opinions on popular ships:

Reki and Langa: My fave obviously, I really like their friendship first, but as a ship they're just perfect together ❤️

Cherry and Joe: I get why people like this ship, but I'm not into that type of ships where characters are always bickering but secretly like each other kind of dynamic, just not my thing. They're fun together though and I like them individually.

Adam and Tadashi: I don't really care about them tbh and their relationship is weird

I've been thinking about the talk between Langa and his mom, trying to figure out how it can be/is supposed to be interpreted. I've tried to see if it can be platonic, but every time I do I find another way that is romantic.

One factor in the platonic vs romantic interpretations is the use of "suki", which we all know means "like''. "Suki" is an adjective and can be used in both a platonic and romantic sense. Generally, "suki" is used in the romantic way when referring to people.

Langa's mom seems to assume he's talking about having a crush on a girl who he got into a fight with, so she meant it as romantic. But let's give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that Langa interpreted his mom's use of "suki" as platonic. 

If Langa thought she meant "do you like this person?" in a friendly way (which he obviously does like Reki since they are close friends) his reaction feels odd. 

Normally, in these situations, this is where Langa would have replied "yeah, he's my best friend." Or even just "friend." But like we all saw, he's taken aback and surprised, hesitates and takes a moment to consider her question before replying "well... yeah." Like he's just realizing how he feels. Either this boy has the emotional self-awareness of a timbit and somehow is unable to say that he likes his best friend (in the platonic sense), or he is just realizing he has a crush on his best friend. 

He's shocked and surprised and hesitates to answer, thinking about it and turning away. Reki and Langa, before their "break up", were very close friends. Best friends. They have their own handshake, they made promises to eachother. They would go to school together, eat lunch together, go home together, go to work together, skate and practice together, go to "S'' together. They also went to the island with everyone else, but spent a good amount of time, just them, together. In the platonic sense, they DEFINITELY like each other. So, why would Langa hesitate to admit that he likes Reki as a friend?

There's also the whole "her" thing. When Langas mom says "You have to act on [your feelings] if you really care about her!" Langa's reaction is pretty interesting. When his mom said "if you really like her!" it told us, the depressed fuckers watching the show, that she meant her previous "do you like this person" question in a romantic sense. If she meant platonic, she would have kept her advice gender neutral and said "if you really care about them", or even assumed it was about Reki and used "him". She didn't. The only interpretation of that line is romantic.

With the previous parts of this scene I explained, the end can be interpreted as platonic, but it makes so much more sense romantically. 

Langa replying, dead straight face and confused ""her"?" can be taken a few ways. One is that he, somehow, STILL doesn't understand she meant it in a romantic sense. Another is that he is confused as to why she thinks it's a girl he's talking about. He doesn't say "no mom, it's my friend Reki, not a girl." He doesn't get all flustered when he realizes she meant as a crush. He's unphased by the crush implication and only questions the pronouns his mother used. They had their little back and forth "huh?" and then the scene changed. No clarification. 

Either this is some next-level queerbaiting or this is the 2021 equivalent of Yuri On Ice with a different type of skating.
