thoughts on the SK-II facial treatment essence?? it’s so expensive lmao but i keep hearing good things
it’s a cult fave, yes; many people swear by it, yes. do you need it to have super good skin? absolutely not, there are cheaper alternatives out there. if you can try a sample and it works wonders for you, and you can afford that luxury, sure; but if not, it’s risky to blind-buy something expensive which your skin can easily reject. don’t let yourself get too caught up in the hype for any one skincare product.
as for the ingredients, it’s mostly galactomyces ferment filtrate (a postbiotic extract) and some very basic humectants. it’s just yeast water. is that worth the 100$ price tag? not for me, personally. galactomyces ferment filtrate is a promising ingredient, but there’s not enough research that indicates it will truly transform your skin like your retinoids, vitamin Cs, niacinamides etc. would. and for that much money, i’m expecting a miracle — which i don’t think this product can deliver.
if you’re interested in trying it out, COSRX has a product i would consider a decent dupe: the galactomyces 95 tone balancing essence, which not only has the added benefits of niacinamide, allantoin, sodium hyaluronate and adenosine, but at a quarter of the price of the SK-II essence, it’s a much better pick in my opinion. i’ve used it myself in the past and quite enjoyed it.

Would you recommend sk ii? Like is it worth it?
To be honest I think it definitely works, but so do other less expensive products. The Missha time revolution essence is a great dupe for about a third of the price.

what products would you recommend from yesstyle? i've never really tried any asain beauty products and idk where to start
it depends on your skin type and ur particular needs but u can refer to the message i just posted which contains my faves (aka essentially my skincare routine) and also this little list which is all the products that i’d like to try + why i’d like to try it/for whom it might be beneficial:
Secret Key - Starting Treatment Essence: essentially a dupe for the SK-II essence but cheaper (closer in formulation than the Missha time revolution thingy)
COSRX - Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50 PA: seems to be a good sun cream that i trust won’t clog pores so very good in the summer months for acne/blemish prone people
Secret Key - Fresh Nature Toner: i would get the aloe soothing moist version simply because i think a lot of skincare issue nowadays is caused by irritation/inflammation/overstimulation (at least in my case) so i’m always up for things that are hydrating and soothing
Benton - Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel: would get this if my skin was going thru a particularly oily patch
Missha - Time Revolution Night Repair Borabit Ampoule: ok so this one my friend suggested and said it plumped up her skin so i’d personally be ready to listen to her advice but feel free to count this one as a wild card
COSRX - Centella Blemish Ampule: centella asiatica is very good to fight off acne
LANEIGE - Water Sleeping Mask: hydration is life!
NEOGEN - Dermalogy Bio-peel Gentle Gauze Peeling Wine: seems to me like an upgraded, high quality version of the COSRX pimple pads which i use around twice a week to fight off clogged pores
Pyunkang Yul - Moisture Cream: very interesting texture-wise, few ingredients which might prevent irritation, and according to either liah yoo or gothamista (can’t remember which one sorry) it’s light weight but potent!
hope this helps u start somewhere bc honestly asian (and particularly korean) skincare literally changed the game for me

Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence is a hydrating treatment that is made with fermented ingredients that help brighten the skins dullness and uneven tone. Galactomyces Filtrate has been proven to brighten and even the tone of skin, diminish signs of aging, tighten pores, clear skin, and promote cell regeneration.
Formulated With:
- Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate is a fermented extract that helps brighten and hydrate
- Hyaluronic Acid helps improve hydration and reinforce the moisture barrier
- Niacinamide helps brighten the skin and anti aging benefits
Someone had mentioned this was a great dupe for Peach & Lily Wild Dew Treatment Essence and SK-II Essence Dupe so I just had to try. SK-II Essence did wonders for my skin but I cringe at the price and being a stay at home mom of 2 who are in a slew of activities and now paying tuition it’s hard to justify this price at times. SK-II known ingredient is Pitera, which is a galactomyces filtrate, at 90% in their formula. Cosrx is 95% galactomyces making it a higher concentration.
COSRX Galactomyces has a gel water like consistency. It absorbs quickly into my skin and doesn’t cause any irritation. My biggest con with COSRX’s version is it pills. Badly. It’s hard to use with other products so you have to find a way to be able to layer when using. Best to wait 20-25 minutes after use to continue on with routine. Once dry it does feel slightly mattifying. While I prefer SK-II, I have seen similar results in using this. My pores are minimized, skin is clear, has helped even out my skin tone, and fine lines are softening. I would recommend this if you are on a budget and don’t want to splurge $100 for only 2 ounces.
PROS:
- Free of parabens, sulfates, alcohol
- Doesn’t Irritate skin or cause breakouts
- Semi Lightweight and absorbs quickly
- Has helped even skin tone
- Has helped clear stressed skin
- Minimizes pores
- Fine lines softened
CONS:
- Didn’t help with fading of hyperpigmentation
- It pills
- Hard to layer

i was told i should inquire here if i was interested in maybe starting a skin regimen?
Oh hey! Okay, so I can’t pretend to be an expert or anything but I have been taking my skin care fairly seriously for a little over a year, so I can tell you a little about what I’ve found. With *everything* on skin care YMMV, due to differences in skin and budget, but one thing I’ve found is that if you end up doing any Korean skin care and look at the stuff on amazon, there’s a *very* dedicated group of people who review those products and they very often start with detailed descriptions of their skin type, so one thing you can do after you’ve gotten started is to see if you can locate some skin twins and check out their reviews, which is one of the things I did. Another thing to know is that while lots of beauty bloggers often promote expensive products really good ones (I like Gothamista myself) go a step further to explain which active ingredients are doing what so you can perhaps look for dupes or cheaper things using similar active ingredients.
All that said, I’m going to give you an idea of what I started with in terms of bare bones skin-wrangling, and then expanding for more steps/fun/advanced. I’ll list some stuff I use and try to remember links and prices, and a couple of sources for buying. Just as a heads-up, I don’t entirely use K-beauty products, but I am a convert to that whole multi-step regimen, so the first plunge can be a bit pricey but almost everything I’ve gotten lasts 3-6 months/bottle/jar so it’s not horrible. Also, I’ll suggest how you might start from the least steps and then gradually build.
cut for length bc I have a bad feeling about how ridiculous this might get
OKAY, so if you’ve ever looked into the K-beauty regimen, it has between 8-10 steps, SEVERAL OF WHICH ARE TOTALLY OPTIONAL or not for every day, but for reference, I’m going to list it all, so I can refer back:
DON’T RUN AWAY; I KNOW THIS LOOKS CRAZY, but I’d recommend starting with as few as 4-5 things and then building up, and seeing how each thing works with your skin. A bonus is that most K-beauty delivers really good ingredients at *much* cheaper prices than US equivalents with similar ingredients.
1) Oil cleanser: This is essential-it is the first step in the double-wash process and doubles as a makeup removing step. It can come in a solid, liquid, or balm, but will become an oil, and dissolve oil, makeup, and often loosen sebum in pores, and is kind of amazing.
Some skin bloggers recommend this only as an evening step and suggest only 10 splashes with cool/lukewarm water as the first step cleanse in the morning followed by the foaming wash, but since I use a sleeping pack almost every night, and I tend to have congested skin, I prefer an oil cleanse in the morning. This of course means I run through my cleanser faster than others might. The one I personally use is this (x), which can be bought even cheaper from some sellers if you buy two at a time.
A cult favorite which I’ve not yet tried, but which is decidedly more high end is Banila Co.’s line of Clean it balms, which run around $20 a jar (x)
USE: Apply small amount and rub with middle or ring fingers counter to grain of skin in circles, feeling sebum exit pores, for 2-4 min, then rinse with cold/lukewarm water, 8-10 splashes
The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil, $9.80 (x). They also have a rich version for dry skin, which I’ve just started using recently and I adore it (x)
Banila Co.–typically $19-$23, but here’s one for $18 (x)
UPDATE
I much prefer the cheaper Heimish all clean balm($16) (x) to Banila’s. It melts alllll makeup, even my most stubborn mascara, though I will generally reach for the oil unless I absolutely need that power.
2) Foaming cleanser: After you’ve dealt with the oils and sebum, it’s time for a more traditional mild foaming cleanser, which should leave your skin clean but without that tight “squeaky” feeling, which means it’s over-dried of its natural oils.
I personally tend to use Naive’s peach facial cleanser, which I get at Japanese groceries for approx $6-8, depending on size, but if you’re not close to one Amazon sells it with free shipping for apparently cheaper and now I’m irritated (x) Again, with a holy grail product I keep hearing about but haven’t tried myself, Su:m 37′s Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick, which has botanical ingredients and bits of rose petals, and is supposed to be seriously mild and sworn by, but is $19 (x). You will often sometimes see various Korean foaming cleansers on sale in the skincare area at TJMaxx and Marshalls lately, and if you want, look them up on a case by case basis. I’ve found some really good ones for $4-5.
Add water, foam/lather, lightly apply, circles, splash splash, cool water.
UPDATE: I ADORE THIS ROSE CLEANSER SO MUCH BUT I’VE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND IT RECENTLY.
A decent alternative whose texture is nowhere near as nice but which cleans very nicely and which travels just as well and is significantly cheaper is Neogen’s green tea cleansing stick. The tea leaves are rougher than the rose petals, but it’s still lovely. If I hadn’t tried the rose first, I’d probably love it more. If/when the rose reappears, I’ll likely buy 4 against the next famine. $16.50 (x)
3) exfoliator–can be physical or chemical, and typically not done every day–varies greatly depending on type and sensitivity of skin–I personally use Mizon’s Apple Smoothie Peeling Gel, which is $10 on Amazon (x). Alternatively, 2-3 times a week, you can use this 7% glycolic acid exfoliating toner from the Ordinary which is amazing, gentle, and affordable at under $9 (x) or for something more aggressive, once a week, this red peeling facial which does sting a bit and can cause a bit of sloughing the first time you use it $7(x):
UPDATE:
I also love this other peeling gel (similar to the Mizon Apple gel, but gentler, and my skin feels so soft after using it–more product, but more expensive outlay) (x)
to Use: depends on type. 4) toner
In general you want to avoid most US-based toners as they tend to be super astringent and drying. Korean and Japanese toners, often called softeners or skins, tend to use less astringent ingredients. You want to avoid alcohol.
Having said all that, a lot of people swear by Pixi’s glow tonic, which you can get at Target and which doubles as an exfoliating toner.
I actually have 3 toners, Ph-balancing/low Ph toner (x), $11-$17 depending on size -I have the big one and it’s lasted me over a year.
I also use a black tea toner by Tonymoly ($16, (x)) and a milk based lotion toner by Berrisom ($8.60 (x), because I like to switch it up and there’s a trend in Korea of layering toners called the 7 skin method that I was curious about but didn’t want to attempt with my toner, which has alcohol in it, even if it is super-gentle.
I’ve found that if I can work out the shipping costs, I can get a much wider variety of toners, emulsions, etc. direct from Korea much cheaper from a site called Koreadepart, but you really need to watch weights for the shipping costs to see if it’s worth it. This is an option though if you ever hear about a product you’re dying to try but can’t find or think is overpriced.
UPDATE
I don’t use the Wonder Pore anymore. I’ve been using the 7 skin (WHY NOT layer 7 layers of hydrating toner). I’ve been using Secret Key’s Aloe and Milk Toners ($9 each) (x), Whamisa’s Deep Rich Organic Flowers Toner at night $30 (x), all the above except the Wonder pore, Goodall’s moisture barrier liquid $15 (x) and Pyunkang Yul’s toner $12.50 (x).
You don’t have to do this. No one ever has to do this. If you at all have sensitive skin, can I please PLEASE plug that last one, which is not only affordable but SUPER GENTLE AND MOISTURIZING. You won’t regret it.
5) essence (refers to one of many thin (watery in texture) concentrated liquids with a particular purpose: brightening, anti-wrinkle, etc., without all the fillers in most moisturizers, to absorb quickly in the skin, but typically without emollients-often few but targeted ingredients).
This is where stuff gets fun and personalized. My fanciest, which I use morning and night and which is a sort of cult product is Missha’s Time Revolution first essence (x).
It’s $25 and uses a lot of the same ingredients as SK-II, which literally costs $230. It’s really great for moisture and brightening, and basic skin resilience. I also have their time revolution night serum (x), which is great, and Cosrx Whitening power essence (x), which doesn’t lighten skin but brightens, typically by either/and lessening sebum or encouraging circulation. (something to note with K-beauty, that’s what whitening means in this context, unlike in some other beauty product markets. Skin bleaching is rarely, if ever, a thing).
UPDATE: There’s an even cheaper dupe of the First Treatment essence with even more galactomyces, by Secret Key (x). I prefer the slightly more expensive Rose edition which doesn’t smell like rose at all but uses rose water (x)
to use: apply a few (2-3) drops to palms, smoosh together, smoosh/pat to cheeks then chin and forehead
6) treatments (serums, ampoules, boosters) these are like essences, but a step up, and often a bit more expensive. The line between steps 5 and 6 are getting blurry in some cases. (I gave up on pictures, sorry)
to use: same as essence
Note: All in one ampoules are popular-these often attempt to smoosh several steps–toner, essence, treatment, even moisturizer if your skin is of that condition–together. scinic has a line of these and I like the honey. This is great for travel. I still use toner and essence though because I can’t help myself. I just treat it as an ampoule. It’s currently $22 for a huge jar that Ii’ve been using for a year and am maybe half way through, but I think it was maybe $16 when I got it. Its price fluctuates (x).
They have other types and my mom loves the snail, but here the snails let me down and irritated my sensitive skin, so take that as you may. The snails only cost $14 (x) If you go to BeautynetKorea.com, you can find even cheaper, well-reviewed all in one ampoules by Farmacy but I can’t voich for them, having not tried them. I’m still working on my huge Honey ampoule.
As I mentioned above, this is sort of a buffet of choices based on your concerns. I’m 40, so mine are largely aging and brightening: I have a night ampoule mentioned above, Mizon’s snail ampoule (I love snail mucin omg), and a peptide ampoule. Each of these prices fluctuate wildly on amazon and I don’t know why-anywhere from $8-$17 by seller. I also have a hyaluronic acid treatment and a vitamin C+E+ferulic acid treatment, and I have suspensions of niacinamide(brightening), Alpha Arbutin (spot treatment for hyperpigmentation) and an awesome peptide treatment from the Ordinary, but I use them after toners when I use them, because I am a rebel.
7) sheet masks (typically used in the evening, just bc time, and not necessarily every day, depending of the skin and masks involved; some use them only 1-2 times a week). I admit I have a total sheet mask problem.
A lot of these are buyer beware, and your skin concerns should determine what you get, if any. If alcohol is a major ingredient, pass. Generally same if a citrus essential oil is, too-it may smell good, but it’s usually a bit much especially if you have sensitive skin. Water will frequently be up there, which isn’t necessarily a deal breaker but you want some quality ingredients. Masksheets.com often has serious sales on good brands. I’m a big fan of leaders insolution, particularly their (plant) placenta and anti-aging masks (the yellow, not the purple box). They’re on sale right now, 3 boxes (30 sheets) for $35 (x).
UPDATE: I think they’ve discontinued the anti-aging masks but if the (also yellow box) wrinkle tox aren’t the same, they’re comparable. They are supercheap on beautynetkorea, but if you don’t want the wait you can get them on ebay or amazon, too.
I know people like the tonymoly ones but I find the essence watery and the masks never stay on my face. If you have any sensitive skin at all avoid anything with cinnamon or cinnamon bark holy hell did I learn that the hard way. This is part of my nightly routine and also amazing to protect your skin in winter or while traveling. do not leave on past the 25-30 min. There’s a tipping point where your face has more moisture than the mask and then the mask starts wicking it out, which defeats the purpose.
8) eye cream- eye skin can be sensitive and need its own product. Not everyone’s will (blasphemy!) I am a big fan of Shiseido’s benefiance and Ibuki eye creams. Yes, they’re pricey, but you can often find them at SUBSTANTIAL discounts if you haunt the skincare area of TJMAXX and Marshalls. I’ve not paid full price in 5 years. Alternatively, at night, I’m a fan of Mizon’s snail eye cream, at $12.50 (x) It’s a bit rich for wearing makeup over during the day, but at night I really like it. Also an option is Etude House’s Moistful eye cream, but again, I tend to wear that at night. It’s $16 (x)
9) moisturizer–often called an emulsion
You need this.
Okay so I actually sort of double up on this-I use a day moisturizer which is light and can be worn under makeup, but also an amazing quick absorbing multifunction cream. My day moisturizer is Shiseido’s Benefiance Day emulsion, again, buy at TJMAXX or Marshalls. Do not pay full retail ever. I started using it in my mid 20s and I think it’s the reason my skin looks better than it ought at my age.
My other cream isn’t an emulsion but a multiuse cream I use day and night and swear by: Mizon’s snail all in one-it’s anti-wrinkle, brightening, and helps fight hyperpigmentation. I think it helps with mild acne as well. Snails are magic, and this cream is 92% snail mucin (the snails are fine). It’s $14/75ml and worth every penny (x). I use it day and night. They also have a cost-efficient 120ml jar, usually $22, but it’s not currently in stock anywhere …
My night emulsion is Shiseido’s night moisture recharge. See above re: paying full price.
But you might not want/need as much moisturizing as I do. I’d stick to the snails or shop around amazon under emulsion and check out the reviews. Skincare people are hardcore.
10) sun protection (day only)
My holy grail sunscreen is Bioré’s Sarasara water essence 50+ Pa+++ sunscreen which you can get a 2 pack of for $18 if you’re willing to wait on the shipping. It. works. and it doesn’t have that … feeling you usually get with sunscreen. You know the one. It’s amazing. (x)
Bonus: Sleep pack/mask (a treatment, typically a cream, worn to bed). This is great for accentuating and holding in all the good things you just put on your face and letting it all work overnight. I am a fan of the snails once again-Mizon has a snail sleeping pack-use sparingly-it’s rich so no more than once a week. I also like Holika Holika’s wine sleeping packs-the white grape version is a white light cream and is brightening and the red one is a red jelly consistency and is anti-wrinkle. They both smell like grapes. Real grapes, not candy grapes. There are a bajillion sleep packs from no nonsense to pure skintertainment. I do one most nights, but I alternate rich and light so as not to overload my skin.
Holika Holika wine therapy masks, $11 each (x)
Mizon Snail therapy sleep pack, $11 (x)
UPDATE I HAVE A NEW FAVE:
the J.one Jelly pack–which I only use as a sleep pack. It goes on super tacky. Tap it in and it becomes really liquid and will soak in. Very hydrating. Look for sales of small bottles expiring in the next six months on ebay. Really good prices and they’ll be gone by then anyhow (x)
If I decide not to do that, I typically throw on SNAILS ONE MORE TIME
Let me introduce you to one of my favorite finds of the last year
This is $10 for 2 tubes and it is amazing. It’s 74% snail goo and I can’t praise it enough. It is great after moisturizer to lock in the good stuff. It is amazing on a sunburn to soothe and heal. But it is also the best burn cream I have ever encountered. I have converted a half dozen people to this after they’ve burned themselves cooking or working on vehicles. I keep 3 tubes in the house at all times. One to use, one backup, and one to give away. Love yourself and get this stuff (x)
UPDATE-Price has seemed to go up to between $14 and $18 for 2 but still worth it
_______________________________________________________________________
OKAY BUT WHAT DO YOU NEED TO START WITH??? Nobody’s got time/money for all of that. IMO, I’d start with these things and then build out as you have money and desire:
1) Double-cleanse-You need the oil cleanser and a foaming cleanser as the base of your new regimen. It’s amazing what that change does to your skin. It’s up to you whether you double cleanse both morning and night like I do or only at night but damn.
2) Toner–what you want is a gentle, low ph toner, ideally with little or no alcohol. My go-to does have alcohol but it’s treated me really well, so do with that what you will. Skinfood’s peach sake toner is also fine, and mentioned Pixi’s exfoliating toner. Benton has a very nice botanical low ph toner, but you’d pay for it.
3) emulsion/moisturizer- *whispers* once you go snail you’ll never look back
4) sunscreen- Take care of your skin! you can’t take back most damage without invasive treatments, so prevention is the key.
If you went with this, I think you could essentially set yourself up with a new regimen that should hold you for approx 4-5 months for a little under $60. If you wanted to go a bit more fancy, you could throw in the all in one (honey or snail ampoule) which would either total $75 if you added it on top or leave it at $60isn if you dropped toner (I wouldn’t rec it though-that ph balancing toner is a good thing).
_______________________________________________________________________
–> If you like this and decide on expanding after you adjust, I’d go for sheet masks for the fun factor but go for good ingredients-my experience with Leaders and to a lesser degree Clamué have been really good. (go for LEADERS) That sale on Masksheets.com is excellent, and it rotates through brands, so if you’re interested, I’d grab a selection of the Leaders options while you can. If you can find it, Bonvivant’s botanical line (x) is fantastic as well. There is no reason to drop $8 at Sephora for a sheet mask. I don’t understand that impulse.
UPDATE: Bonvivant seems to have disappeared. booooo. I’d go for Leaders and Mediheal if it were me. It’s usually worth it to buy ebay or wait for beautynet korea or koreadepart–just do the math on the shipping and realize that as cheap as they are the shipping will often nearly double the price, so factor that in as you go.
Where you go from there really depends on your priorities. Generally, I’d say go for ampoules before essences-they’re more effective if a bit more expensive. If you find all the steps overwhelming, try an all in one and smoosh a bunch of steps.
RESOURCES
I already mentioned the skincare youtuber Gothamista (x). She’s really into explaining the steps, uses, and ingredients, and she links to where to find anything she mentions. She also mentions what does what so even though most of the things she uses are expensive, you can look for other things with a similar ingredient profile. Her followers will also often suggest dupes.
If you are into some of those ingredients and don’t know where to get good products with them, a good site to check out is the Ordinary. They sell good treatments with barebones packaging at rock bottom prices. This means that they are often sold out, but it’s a place where you can get a niacinamide treatment for under $8, and half a dozen different ways to put different amounts of Vitamin C on your face. (x) Renée at Gothamista has done some really good reviews of most of their stuff if you’re overwhelmed by their offerings and how to use them, as I was.
Masksheets.com–You can get masksheets on amazon, but Masksheets.com has a wider selection and generally better quality. Get on their mailing list for their monthly sales. I just jumped on the leaders one and stocked up on the next 6 months of my beloved Leaders masks at about half price.
I already linked to Koreadepart up the post but this is a good place to check prices and compare if you see a holy grail thing but the price seems a bit out of whack-the shipping is going to add obvs, but sometimes it’s still a better deal. Remember that they will add another 200g to the weight for packaging when you figure out what your shipping weight/cost will be so you don’t accidentally get into a new weight class when ordering. Beautynetkorea is a similar company with some product overlap, but other things that are different. Comparison shopping is worth it.
NB: Target has started carrying some of these brands-but at way out of line prices. So, for example, the Mizon snail repair all in one fluctuates between $12 and $16 on amazon. It’s $35 at target. Also, I was just in NYC’s koreatown and online prices are typically less than half of what it costs in the store.
Also, you can often get things cheaper and/or with free shipping from amazon sellers in korea rather than on prime. This means longer shipping, but most will throw in samples of other products if you want to experiment. I have a little drawer of them for when I travel and can’t take a ton of bottles with me. Same with Ebay.
Okay so that was way too long but I hope you find it helpful and not too overwhelming, and if you or anyone else anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. Again, YMMV, I’m not an expert, but this is what I’d advise based on my experience.
Also. Snails. Are. Magic.

Skincare 101 Part 2
Gegara baca postingannya Mba @crescenthemums kemarin tentang skincare, saya jadi inget belum beresin tulisan soal skincare yang ini.
Berhubung abis konsul juga sama mba amy-nya soal skincare-skincarean jadi daku lebih tau banyak mau pake apa aja. Thankyou mbaaa *sambil nunggu balesan chatnya lagi* wkwk..
Ehh btw, jenis kulit saya normal-kombinasi yaa..
Step pertama Cleansing..
Setahun terakhir saya rajin pake double cleansing (maksain banget), soalnya kerasa hasilnya apalagi setelah pake make up tebel, muka jadi lebih bersih kalo udah double cleansing dan ga gampang komedoan.
Jadikan ga usah bingung lagi ganti skincare-nya ntr.
Soalnya kalo keseringan takut kulit wajah jadi kering.
Kerasa banget bedanya antara rutin pake sama ngga, soalnya si wajah kalo lewat seminggu ga disrub aja udah kusem gitu sih, walaupun setelah srub masih kusem juga tapi mendinganlah yaa dan kerasa lebih enak kenyel-kenyel gitu wajahnya.
Step ketiga Toner Hydration
Step keempat Essence / First Serum
Step ketujuh Sunscreen
Step kedelapan Masker (seminggu sekali)
Ehhhh panjang banget yaa? Heuheu.. Diantos.. Heuheu

Move over SK-II FTE?! MISSHA First Treatment Essence Intensive Moist Review
This review will be very brief. If you were following me for quite some time, you would know how much I love SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. It has changed my skincare game, BIGTIME. My face would not survive this world without it. Pak! Ganern. Ganon katindi.
I got the MISSHA First Treatment Essence Intensive Moist (2016 NEW) from Althea Korea Philippines. Read how my first Althea shopping experience here. I was SO excited to try the MISSHA FTE. I was hoping to get a dupe for my SK-II FTE because, well, we all know SK-II is not cheap.
I used the MISSHA FTE for a good solid month. Used it day and night. I noticed that it was great in controlling oil on my T-zone. I was not blotting (my face) much when I was using it. Sadly, it was not able to prevent the pimples from coming.
Yep. I was breaking out during the time that I used MISSHA FTE. At first, small bumps started appearing on the sides of my face and on my chin area. Then these bumps slowly turned into pimples. And I said to myself, nope. I could not do this to myself. I struggled hard to keep my face pimple free for the longest time. I was not letting MISSHA ruin it for me. I started using MISSHA FTE less and less, only once a day. I made it part of my day time skincare routine because it was good at controlling my oil. But the pimples and blemishes kept on coming. And I decided not to use it anymore.
In the end, MISSHA FTE could not replace my SK-II FTE. It is not a dupe for it. Well, not for me. But what I can tell you is that it did a good job of controlling my face oil production. In case you do not have any facial issues other than being oily, try the MISSHA FTE. I am selling mine here if you are interested to try it. Your skin might love it.
Have you used MISSHA FTE? What are your thoughts about it?

First Essence ✨
The first essence is different from a typical essence in that it goes, well, first. The first essence goes on directly after toner and before any other essences. It contains a large amount of fermented ingredients.
Fermented ingredients = Glowing skin
This is an optional step.
Recommendations:
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence- This is the queen of first essences. It also has the price tag to match. If you have the means, this essence comes highly recommended and you likely won’t look back after using it. However, there are cheaper, effective alternatives.
Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence- Some who have tried the SK-II essence claim that this is a great dupe.
Cosrx Galactomyces Whitening Power Essence- Cheap and gets the job done. Also provides a punch of hydration. (I’m also very biased to Cosrx 🙊 )

* = disliked the product - would not repurchase ** = liked the product - would not repurchase *** = liked the product - might or might not repurchase **** = loved the product - would repurchase *HOLY GRAIL!*
1. Jayjun Cosmetic Anti-Dust Therapy Mask source: T&T Supermarket thoughts: I was definitely not expecting this mask to be green but it was. It reminds me of the movie The Mask, if anyone rememebers that. This mask was okay I didn’t find that it did much aside from the typical stuff (hydrate a bit etc). I haven’t used step 1 or 3 so I can’t say if those are any good. But I’ll probably try those out once I get through more of these masks and collect more. rating: **
2. Jayjun Cosmetic Baby Pure Shining Mask source: T&T Supermarket thoughts: This was okay not something I really like. rating: *
3. The Face Shop The Solution: Smoothing Face Mask source: The Face Shop thoughts: I actually like this one and always have a few in my stash. It does smooth out my skin as it does contain BHA. Absolutely enjoy using this. rating: ****
4. The Face Shop The Solution: Pore Care Face Mask source: The Face Shop thoughts: I don’t really think this has helped my pores. I found that this kind of made my pores appear a little bigger. I have used this in the past and haven’t really noticed it until now. It does contain tannin which is suppose to help with pores. rating: ***
5. By Wishtrend Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask source: Wishtrend thoughts: This was the first time I’ve used this. I wasn’t a big fan, since the mask sheet was pretty thick, and I do like my mask sheets on the thinner side. I can’t really say if it does what it claims yet. I will have to try it a few more times to see if it does. rating: ***
6. Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser source: sample thoughts: I just found out that I didn’t use this product properly as it was suppose to be used on dry skin. No wonder it felt a little odd, because as I was using this I found it to be similar to a cleansing balm. Lo and behold it’s suppose to act as just that. Regardless, I did enjoy using this and it was a light cleanser that did not feel heavy on the skin. My skin did feel very nice and refreshed. The scent of this is on the citrusy side and it’s not too strong. I really enjoyed using this, however this product is pricey hence I would not purchase it. rating: **
7. Nature Republic Ginseng Royal Silk Foam Cleanser source: sample thoughts: This cleanser actually didn’t foam up that much. It was thick and heavy for my liking. However, it did make my skin nice and soft. Also the scent of this is very strong which is something that I don’t like too much. It’s a scent that does not bother me though. Overall, it wasn’t a bad cleanser but I would have to say that if you do wear a lot of make-up you would need to double cleanse, as I can see that this cleanser would not remove all the make up. rating: **
8. Skinfood Rice Daily Brightening Cleansing Foam source: sample thoughts: I wasn’t a big fan of this as it was really thick, but a little does go a long way. I don’t really like keeping foil packets open for a long time, hence I used it up in a day, morning and night. I didn’t notice any difference to my skin, but I feel like it’s a decent cleanser. rating: *
9. dermalogica precleanse source: sephora sample thoughts: I don’t know why but I was expecting this to be like a cream. However, this was like an oil kind of cleanser, that was light and turned milky as you massage it. It didn’t break me out which is a plus. I did like the experience, but I hate the feeling of it, hence I would not purchase this. rating: **
10. Garnier Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser (5ml) source: sample thoughts: I’ve had this cleanser in my stash for a long time now, and I have finally tried it. This is like a cleansing balm. It did break up my makeup well but I’m not sure about the waterproof mascara part, since I usually only put on foundation and concealer. There was no scent to this either, and it had a very light feeling to it. Overall, it was a good cleanser. I did have to double cleanse though on days I wear a full face of makeup. The texture of this was nice and fluffy too. rating: **
11. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (10ml) source: Yesstyle thoughts: I have heard a lot about this product, hence I decided to purchase a small bottle since I wasn’t willing to spend over $200 for the full size. It was also so I won’t be heartborken for spending such a large sum on something I wasn’t sure was good or not. Lo and behold, I’m not a big fan of this. A lot of people have mentioned the scent and the scent really did get to me. It wasn’t a scent that I was pleased with. Everytime I used it I would gag a little inside because of the scent. However this was more moisturizing compared to the Skin & Lab’s Bio-essence and Missha’s Time Revolution. rating: *
12. The Face Shop Herb Day Cleansing Tissue (70 sheets) source: The Face Shop thoughts: These are my holy grail cleasing tissues. It removes majority of my make-up and are very soft plus gentle. They also have a refreshing scent to them. I always have a pack in my stash. rating: *HOLY GRAIL!*
14. fresh Sugar Lip Treatment (4.3g/ 0.15oz) source: Sephora thoughts: I absolutely love fresh’s sugar lip treatments. I only bought this one because of the limited edition packagaing which a part of the proceeds would go to a fund for HIV medicine. The packaging has more of a weight than the regular ones and is glossy rather than the matte/satin finish. I’ve actually been trying to find a dupe for these but have yet to find one. I bought one of kiehl’s butter lip treatment and it’s just not the same. It’s just not as moisturizing as the fresh ones. Plus now that I think about it, it’s kind of worth the price considering it does last me a year or more. rating: ****
15. Thank You Farmer True Water Deep Serum & Cream (15ml/ 0.52oz) source: StyleKorean thoughts: These two products were amazing when used together. I noticed that my face would have that glow/ glass skin look afterwards. These were also hydrating,The texture of the serum was very liquid and the cream had a gel texture to it. Both products spread very easily on the skin, as long as you have enough on. The serum didn’t have much of a scent, although at times I do pick up a faint scent of something that I can’t put my finger on. As for the cream it has a light citrus scent to it. These products lasted me for a month, making them great for travelling with. Overall,I really enjoyed using these but I’m not sure if I really like the texture of these products. But I got to say that my skin looked amazing throughout my use of these products, I may consider these products in the future if the products in my stash don’t work out. I also just looked at the description for these products and it’s interesting what it says about them. True Water Deep Serum: A deep hydrating serum with a unique texture that moistens the tired and dried skin as the morning dews moisten the earth. True Water Deep Cream: A deep hydrating cream with unique liquid glue texture that comforts your tired and dried skin as if you find an oasis in the middle of the dessert. I purchased mine on stylekorean in a kit, which also came with a sunscreen. I would love to try other products by this brand in the future. rating: ***
16. 3W Clinic 100% Aloe Vera Soothing Gel (300g/ 10.58oz) source: YesStyle thoughts: This tub of aloe has really saved me especially when I randomly broke out in hives. It just relieved the itchiness, plus it’s hydrating and soothing to an extent. rating: ****
17. dear, klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser (100ml/ 3.4oz) source: Wishtrend thoughts: This is a very nice foam cleanser so far. I had 3 in my stash and this is my second one now. I really like the ease of this as I don’t have to rub to create the foam. I think this may be my favourite foam cleanser so far; do keep in mind I haven’t tried that many foam cleansers. I do like that this is nice and light. However, I do finish these so fast compared to a regular cleanser where I need to create foam. I used this up roughly in a month, but I did use this day and night,. rating: ****
18. Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence (150ml) source: YesStyle thoughts: I thought I’d give this a try since I really enjoyed Skin & Lab’s Bio-essence. This did last me 2 weeks longer than the Skin & Lab’s, however I found that this wasn’t as hydrating as the Skin & Lab’s. I mentioned that SK-II one was the most hydrating, and here is how I determined it: by the amounts of layers needed to achieve desired hydration level. SK-II 1 layer; Skin & Lab Bio-essence 3 layers; Missha Time Revolution 4-5 layers. I couldn’t detect a scent with this which is why I do like it. Overall, I really do like using this as it does help with hydrating my skin. I got this in a kit on yesstyle. Also I think this may be the product that had made my skin glowing, but I will have to test it out again to see, since I finished this and have rotated it out. rating: ****
David’s Tea Sunny C During the summer time, I tend to like to drink a lot of herbal/ fruit infusion teas. I loved the tea called orange glow from David’s but sadly they discontinued that and I thought I’d try this to see if this was a good substitute. This wasn’t bad, however I can really taste the ascorbic acid. This really feels like a healthier version of Sunny D. This tea contains apple, carrots, pineapple, orange, hibiscus, lemon peel, pink peppercorns, safflowers, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and natural flavours. rating: ***

Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Review
Product Sponsored by IMBB
If you are into Korean skincare, you must have heard about the brand Missha, and about their “First Treatment Essence.” Now, the “first treatment essences” are all over and even the western brands have come up with their own essence formulas. But the first essence was reportedly made by a Japanese brand SK-II, but it’s so expensive. So many brands have come up with dupes for SK-II essence and the most popular one from all of them is by Missha. This is such a popular product, but I was skeptical about buying it because a lot of popular and cult products have proved to be dud for me! Let us see how this treatment essence worked for me.
Product Description: Highly concentrated essence serves as an essential first step of skincare to boost moisture. Recommended for:(Intensive moist version)
- Those with chronically dry skin
- Those with temperamental skin
- Those with dry skin and a dull complexion
- Those seeking a clearer, cleaner complexion and more moisturized skin. Price: 49 USD for 150 ml of product.
Ingredients:
My Experience with Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence:
The first Missha Essence was introduced nearly 6 years ago, and they have re-formulated the original version. This particular version is “intensive moist” and there is an “intensive” variant too. I have wanted to get this essence for a long time, but I was worried that this might not suit my skin, hence I tried out a few samples for a few weeks and because I was satisfied with the product, I was ready to buy it.
This essence is basically a fermented essence comprising 90% saccharomyces ferment filtrate. Most of these first essences available in the market will make you want to open your long last botany book, so many yeasts to remember! SK-II even had a long story in their website about their star ingredient, and it is priced above 150 USD. So, let us talk about Missha essence alone in this review now.
This essence comes in a beautiful, sturdy glass bottle. The transparent glass bottle makes it easy to guess the product remaining inside the bottle. It comes with a twist-on plastic cap, and the bottle has a small opening to dispense the product. This makes it easy to take the essence in your hand, and you won’t spill out the month worth essence in a single go.
The essence is clear, watery and runny. It has a very faint smell which smells like nothing I have smelt before, but it is very mild and not bothersome. I use the essence with a cotton pad sometimes, and mostly, I use this with my palms. I take a small amount of it and gently slather it on my face. It must be used as a first step after cleansing, and even before toner. Because in Korean skincare, toners are usually thicker, this is possible.
Immediately after applying on to my face, it gets absorbed, but doesn’t dry on my face. It never feels dry on my skin because it simply never actually dries out. Even after patting it on to my face, it will give a satin finish, so you can say that I was blown over with the very first use.
It also gave a very soft glow to my face with every use, and even just after a week of using it every morning and night, I was able to see that it had brightened my skin (not to be confused with reducing hyperpigmentation and any whitening effect).
It hydrates my skin really well and that could be the reason for the brightening effect. I have been using it for a month now, and only a small amount of product has been consumed, which is a great plus. This one bottle might last for a few months for me.
Also, after a month long use, I could say that it is really a miracle product! It did not help with my acne scars that much, but it had smoothed them out. You know when acne leaves your skin texture uneven, this might be helpful. I have used many other alternatives for SK-II essence – like the first essence from Secret Key and Mizon, but this essence works better than them. Worth every penny!
Pros of Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence:
Provides good hydration for the skin without making it oily.
Effect was immediate on my skin (though subtle).
It gives a brightening effect within a few weeks.
The skin texture becomes smooth after a month or so.
This one bottle will last for months.
Cons of Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence:
The effect seems to reduce a bit if you stop using the essence.
IMBB Rating: 5/5 Would I Recommend/Repurchase Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence? Yes! I would buy this again and again. I would highly recommend this product. I would also suggest buying a few samples or a deluxe sample before taking the plunge because some might be allergic to the fermented ingredients.
