Attention Commrades, I’m pleased to announce that SJSU will be the local host for WSCA's Annual Conference!

Western States Communication Association's Annual Conference will take place February 16 to February 19 here in the Bay Area.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about our Communication Studies field and about potential graduate school programs.   You can volunteer to help us host the conference and get the conference fee waived.  If you are interested in volunteering, or for any additional information, please contact Dr. Felipe Gómez (felipe.gomez@sjsu.edu).

Here’s a little recap on a guest speaker we had in our very own Matthew Gloria Dalton’s public speaking course!

On January 18th, SJSU Lecturer Matthew Gloria Dalton's public speaking class experienced a special oppotunity to hear the Vice Mayor of San Jose, Magdalena Carrasco speak about her journey, the power of civic action and building a strong civic voice, the power of symbolic narrative with examples, and overcoming the numerous disconnects that currently hail our society. Isn't it cool to have guest speakers like her?

Essay Excellence: Revision for Success Wednesday, 11/29, 10:30am ��� 11:45am @ Hugh Gillis Hall, Room 255 A hands-on workshop in practical revision strategies. Trimming the Fat: Writing Concisely and Avoiding Wordiness Thursday, 11/30, 3:00pm - 4:00pm @ Clark Hall 100H It's a common misconception among beginning writers that using more words makes one's writing sound more intelligent. The opposite is true. The trick to good writing is to say as much as you can in as few words as possible. Trim the fat, leave the meat. This workshop will explore strategies for recognizing and removing this undesirable fattiness from your writing.
