I find it interesting that Edwin's "punishment", in Hell, was running. Running, and what he was running from always catching up.

Sure, he was there on a technicality. Sure, the demon who brought him there apologized. But if Edwin truly believed that he didn't belong in Hell... well, he wouldn't have to work so hard at trying to prove it, would he?

One of the themes of Gaiman's Hell is that the people who go there create their own punishments - if they punish themselves, everywhere becomes Hell, which we see directly in the original comic where the boys are introduced.

Edwin has been running his entire life. From Simon, which led to both their deaths; from his feelings, which led to the tangle with the Cat King and Monty and Charles. And from Charles, emotionally.

The first time he starts to slow down, he doesn't quite manage to fully stop, not in time - and it catches up. The second time, on the stairs, when he tells Charles - that time, he makes it out.

I just think it's interesting.

In the first episode when louis and Paul are on the roof, Paul says to him that 'mortal sins must be confessed' is he referring to louis sleeping with lestat? It seems so head on and upfront for them so I just wasn't sure if I was misinterpreting what he said

Yes, but not only I think.

The seven sins are:

Pride, avarice, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth.

Personally I think we can dismiss gluttony and sloth.

The others though? Not so much. Paul addresses the issue before, at the breakfast, when he criticizes where the money comes from. It's a mix between pride and avarice he refers to here, and that is something we see later, too, when Louis refuses to move on from the Azalea (Lestat notes: "So it is about the money."). That is not to say that I blame Louis here to have that kind of focus with the backstory we've been told(!), but Paul may have perceived it as such.

Then there's lust, obviously. No-one at that dinner table has any doubt as to why Lestat is there. As with a lot of things in strict religion (in my experience), the more elevated feelings are dismissed, reducing what Lestat and Louis feel down to the basest, most depraved ones in judgement. ("They sit in judgement")

Wrath is nothing we see in mortal Louis, but later. But ... Paul of course knows his brother. And knows he can hold a grudge. And lash out.

And envy... envy is probably mixed into all of it. Louis wants a family, he wants children, and he wants to be a successful man in these times, which mixes with pride then. I'm not sure if that is envy yet per se, but....

So while that comment may have felt directed at the relationship only, I think there was more to it.

In Paul's eyes Louis likely committed 5 of the 7 mortal sins... and he wants Louis safe from hell.

And that is what I took this comment is about.

Slouches when sitting at a computer desk, but when standing up or sitting anywhere else, his posture is straight. scars. Faded laceration scars on his palms from blade training, faded puncture and slash wounds at his feet, faded patches of burn/blister scars on the fingers of his left hand and back of his right palm, the faded Time Breaker sigil seared into his chest by magic -partially covered by the recent addition of his own sigil on his chest and his back-, a puncture scar on his right side going out the back with slashes at his ribs, and the deep gash that encircles half of his neck. tattoos. Towa doted on the boy as a way to pass the time to cull the boredom that came with rebuilding Mira from scratch and perfect his body. This often left Fu by himself while she worked when the novelty wore off. After she passed, Dabura took it upon himself to train and raise him to the best of his ability- for a demon king with no idea of how to take care of a half-mortal toddler, he didn’t do too badly. Still not very good, either.

Assignment 3

Why is pride the mother of all sins?

           The house of pride is where the Queen Lucifera lives and underneath the foundation lays thousands of bodies that were overcome by pride and therefore could not leave the premises. Just like the Christian theology, which deems pride as an evil that vices stem from, Edmund Spencer, associates the queen of pride with the devil and labels her servants with different sins that include Gluttony, Idleness, Gluttony, Lechery, Avarice, Envy, and Wrath.  

           Well, is pride really the most lethal of all? Pride really is the feeling that one is better or more important than other people. This inflated love according to Dante results in hatred of thy fellow neighbor.  To a large extent there is validity to this. Pride takes a minor accomplishment and makes it feel like a major one. It smiles at our cleverness and genius, as though what we’ve exhibited was merely a hint of what ought to come. From the start, it drives a wedge between the possessor and reality, subtly and not so subtly changing her perceptions of what something is and what it isn’t.  The problem with pride is that it blunts the instrument we need to succeed—our mind. Our ability to learn, to adapt, to be flexible, to build relationships, all of this is dulled by pride.

            What if the future is a series of unfortunate events or rather onerous? On the other hand, what if the pitfalls are rather mild and a large part of it is pure bliss.  Knowledge is power. But in this case, knowledge would be powerless as knowing the turn out of events does not mean that you get to intervene.  What if I found out that I would be some sort of billionaire (only good jinxes) with impeccable health and wholesome relationships?  Does that mean I would try and simply follow the manual or trajectory my future suggests ? Would  I just  sit back and have a sure countdown to the next milestone ?
