Gotta say eggs on guacamole toast (gluten free) is one of them (I think it was originally supposed to be plain avocado toast the way my sister showed me to do it, but alas, I decided to be quick about it and use premade guacamole instead)

Miso soup is a breakfast, right? … I like having Miso soup for breakfast 😂😂

And uhhhh at the moment? Cap’n Crunch, like I’m eating Cap’n Crunch straight out of the box, no milk, by the handful until I am full. Real gremlin vibes (positive) right there

As for a headcanon, I will give you a tendies one… I like to think they run one-on-one TTRPG campaigns together post-canon, where Ryou DMs and simultaneously plays a character with Yami B and Yami B uses that character in addition to his to fight in encounters, because I saw a member of a couple on reddit talk about doing that ages ago and the thought of it felt very tendies <3

If you're into smut (and of age to read it of course), I would heavily recommend the whole work of Fat-Butch-Dyke (@fat-butch-dyke) and Sitabethel (@sitabethel). Fair warning with Sita: they do the best character developments. You think you will go for a fun pwp but be prepared to be a crying mess at some point.

Also Rochelle Echidna (@rochelle-echidna), Ninjam117 (@ninjam117), RelaySoul (@pandabaozi) and DisposableVillain works are to check too. <3 (I couldn't decide for a fic to recommend more than another.)

There are a lot more I'm probably forgetting but I think that will give you some reading material. Also I recommend to look at the other works of all the authors I mentionned, they are great. ♥

A YGO fanart in the year 2023 by me?! What the heck?! After meeting up with @sitabethel, @ninjam117, @justapalspal and @rochelle-echidna and cosplaying the citron boys again with @kittykaibasblog at Sakura Con two weeks ago, I got into the mood for some YGO again. So I digged around in my WIP files and found a 3 years old WIP of a fanfic (link will follow in a separate post, special thanks to @mainstream-deviant for beta-reading!) and the sketch for the corresponding artwork and decided to finish it! So this one goes out to all my YGO friends who were at SakCon and to all those who sadly couldn't make it!

Hi there!! I really want to start reading your works since you've been kind enough to read mine, but you have such a wide array of fics I'm not sure where to start - I was hoping I could ask if you had any recommendations of your own works, or any personal personal favourites you could pass along!

Oh my goodness, first off, apologies for taking a few days to respond, and second off... gosh, I've never been asked to rec my own work before, so this was surprisingly tough haha

I do indeed love your work and know you're a big fan of the Bakurae and Malikses, so going off that I've compiled a list showing the "greatest hits," if you will :D

Domestic Ishtars series - The first YGO fic I ever wrote, which spawned a series and has slowly consumed my life and made me feel terrible that I haven't updated in so long I swear I will y'all I wanna finish this series so bad... If you like a heavy dose of post-canon angst and Ishtar family shenanigans (particular for Malik) then I'd def recommend this series

Resistance - The first fic I was ever honest-to-god proud of and stayed up all night finishing in basically one go haha I'll admit, it gets a bit harsh midway through (I was not especially kind to TKB in this one, oy vey) but it ends really cathartic and I still revisit this fic if I need reassurance that my future writing won't suck :P

Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart - My longest fic (see, Rochelle, you can write novel-length work, damn it!) and the only one I believe exists on AO3 for the helioshipping tag (awesome ship name courtesy of @sitabethel) because I was (and still am) obsessed with the idea of a post-canon "what if" polycule scenario involving Ryou, Malik, YB and TKB :)

When the World Ends - I like writing AU YGO fics a lot, and for whatever reason this one is my favourite and just came together exactly how I wanted! It's post-apocalyptic meets dive bar meets mechanical bull meets dancing to outdated jukebox music meets (yet again) cathartic ending, all under the guise of getting Malik, YM and TKB together because why the hell not :D

Out of the Darkness - Figured I had to share at least one other non-explicit fic so I didn't come across as too thirsty lol I wrote this one for a lovely YGO zine in 2022 and (along with another upcoming zine fic that I can't talk too much about atm) it's near and dear to my heart, especially with the absolutely gorgeous art accompanying it ;n; If you can't tell, I love Malik and putting him in scenarios and then having (usually) TKB come in to fix those scenarios, so if you're a citronshipping fiend like me you'll probably like this one

1. What made you ship it?

I honestly can't even remember? It might have been that one messy Teaseshipping fic on FFN that I read that opened my eyes to it, and then I was like, "Oh, they have so much in common, and Joey would protect him, and they would make each other so happy." Now that I think about it, I think one of the first Puffshipping poeces I ever read was @sitabethel's Puff entry in The Lemonade Stand, so that's probably part of what convinced me to ship it too.

I will also fall back on the dumb answer of "I liked both of them, so I made them kiss."

2. What are your favorite things about this ship?

Honestly, I love how healthy it is, for both of them. They can bond over being separated from their moms and sisters, and shitty dads, and making it on their own despite everything sucking and having enemies. They've both grown a lot, and they would be so good togetherrrrrrrrr.

Ryou getting Shizuka as a little sister-in-law is also just one of the sweetest things ever.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have about this ship?

I don't think so.

PROTECTSHIPPING

1. What made you ship it?

Uuuuummmmmmm, I think the first Protectshipping fic I ever read was Affinity by Dolorous Doll on FFN, and it was also a Tendershipping fic, and the whole thing was so fucked up that I couldn't even finish the story, but I think that was the first time I really considered Protectshipping.

It's one of my most low-key ships in that I almost never seek out content for it, but if the content covers across my dash I'll be like "nice."

2. What are your favorite things about this ship?

Tristan does seem like a protective, doting boyfriend, and I think that's really sweet. Ryou needs a healthy presence to be around, and that's great for him. He needs it. Tristan would treat him right.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have about this ship?

I don't think so.

I SHIP IT

1. What made you ship it?

It was a thiefshipping fic that started my descent I think? The vision ladies weren't exactly the focus but they were included as a background ship. When I first read that Mai and Isis were dating, I had to do a double-take, because it was so unexpected. Mostly because I just didn't realise that was an option lol. But this wasn't exactly a ship that immediately took off for me it was more of a progressive thing. That fic planted the idea and then I started seeing it more often on tumblr like headcanons and fanart. And then I just started shipping it unconsciously at some point without realising it XD

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Their dynamic for sure! They're simultaneously both a power couple and the perfect comedic duo! Isis and Mai were the ones that made me realise that psychic x fake psychic is actually a really good idea for a pairing. It's such a shame that they're mostly just included as background ships in most fan content. However, there are some really good primarily visionshipping fics! For example, there are sitabethel's visionshipping fics that are a real treat to read. And the plots you could put these women into! Like on one hand you have a shady college dropout who worked on a cruise ship casino, and probably had multiple run-ins with the law and on the other hand, you have a studious archaeologist who probably has her bachelor's and works for the government. You can do so many mystery and crime stories with these two, you don't even have to go that far from canon!

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Not really? I think the ship is really cute and they're pretty consistent in the fics I read and I'm already used to that fanon. I don't know if this counts as an unpopular opinion but I think Mai is probably Isis' first romantic partner. And I love those fics where they meet through a dating app or they just accidentally hook up at first XD

B:  What was the first fandom you read fic in?  Which was the first you wrote fic for?

I cannot remember the first fanfic I ever read, but I'm sure it was Yugioh because that is the fandom that introduced me to fandom, if that makes sense.

Actually, the very first fanfic I wrote was a Sonic fanfic when I was five, and it was my first written work of fiction ever. I still remember exactly what that little notebook looked like, and if I ever find it someday, I'm keeping it forever.

J:  What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?

Definitely my favorite is "character has trauma/mental issues and close friend becomes partner in the healing process." I've written this more than any other trope I swear! XD

K:  Do you have a guilty pleasures in fic (reading or writing)?

R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?

@sitabethel was definitely the one that inspired me to start writing, just from reading their stories. @caffeinatedpokedex was another early inspiration, showing me what was possible. Ziven was another one for sure and inspired a few specific fics.

My own personal history is of course a big influence on my writing, which has actually helped me work through some of my own abuse experiences or mental disorders.

Mercedes Lackey is a writer that I will always look up to and try to emulate, even if I don't think I'm hitting the mark. If you can only read one book of hers, I recommend The Fire Rose, but her entire Elemental Masters series is *chefs kiss* delightful perfection. I read five of those books before I even realized they were all loose fairytale rewrites, that's how good she is (and how young I was lol).

X: How would you categorize your fanfic reading?  Are you a voracious reader?  Do you carefully pick and choose?  Something in between?

If I'm deep in my writing, then I'm not doing much reading. If I've just finished a big project or I need a break, I'll do more reading. I'm kind of picky in some ways and not in others. Like, if a story has some style or technical issues, I'll still give it a chance for the sake of the ideas or the story or the ship. I will go yhrough phases where I read a lot, and phases where I'm mostly just eriting and I'm not reading so as to not lose track of my ideas or get them muddied up with what I'm reading.

4) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to, and even open all my unreplied comments up pretty routinely. I get some intense commenting anxiety for some absurd reason, so it often takes a few tries. It’s something I want to work on, in tandem with leaving comments.

5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Huh. Depends, I suppose. Truths to Tell or The Ring is Empty I think, but in different ways. Truths to Tell ends with a sense of defeat and listlessness that also leaves room for growth. The Ring is Empty however is the notion of being trapped, even with an inability to accept it.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Oh gosh, I think probably... Head to Wind. There’s a frankly insistent and defiant sense of hope and brightness in it that is directly challenging cynicism. I don’t know. It feels bright.

7) Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Oh, I love a Daemon AU. I’m also a bit weak on mixing up Doctor Who with other sci-fi such as Red Dwarf and Animorphs.

8) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Oh yes, very much so. I wrote a number of controversial fics. One of them got an entire analysis post on how I used my writing skills for evil, I shit you not. 

9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not enough, honestly. Most of my ships are MLM so there’s that, but no guarantee of dicks. It’s definitely more a private matter.

10) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Some scrubbed by sites, but I don’t count it, just file my DMCA and go.

11) Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I did get a podfic of Crown you now, with many crowns !

12) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yep! Currently working on Breaking Light. 

13) What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Goddamn you ask a hard question. No all-time fave ships, but I’m feeling darkshipping, promptis, and destiel lately.

14) What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?

Quite a few tbh. I wonder sometimes if I’ll ever finish City of the Dead or Chrysalis....

15 & 16) What are your writing strengths/ weaknesses?

Strengths, uh-- I think I can write some pretty solid prose, push comes to shove. And I’m partial to my verb choice when I’m on a roll.

Weaknesses are definitely action sequences, tense changing mid-scene and endings. I never know how to make a graceful exit.

17) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Depends a lot stylistically. Sometimes it’s a good way to signal language shifts, or to highlight certain themes, sometimes it’s better to do an Asterix and Obelix style translation.

18) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Beyblade, I believe. KaiTaka is still a great ship and I stand by it.

19) What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Well damn, another hard question. Antebellum or Head to Wind, maybe.
