Stories that made my heart hurt in the best of ways.

Ode to Storms by Sinnatious. Linked Universe. Honestly, if you haven't read this one yet, where've you been? Prepare to be crushed. I can't recommend it enough. Time and one unfortunate paradox.

Dirt and Ashes, or: The One-and-a-Half Body Problem by Tozette. Naruto. Sakura is trained by Hidan after the chunin exam invasion. It's gruesome and chilling and perfect.

The Lesson: A Whumptober Tale by WolfWarden. Linked Universe. Mask uses the Fierce Deity mask, and there are consequences. Nobody is left unscathed. WolfWarden absolutely crushed this.

Good Order and Discipline by Succorelle. The Clone Wars. A re-telling of the Clone Wars wherein Rex and Cody have a secret (illegal) relationship. I've re-read this probably four times since it was published.

Interim by starkraving. The Legend of Zelda. Zelda, Link and Ganondorf try to navigate friendship and more despite their predestined roles. It had me so stressed. Really great writing.

Crumble by anthemXIX. Linked Universe. Someone dies, and the LU heroes are left to mourn. On grief and moving on (sometimes before you're ready), with great writing to take you there.

Because He Is A Friend Of Mine by ofredandgold. Naruto. I was literally so excited whenever this story updated, but ouch. Meaningful relationships in a war-driven society that expects you to choose clan first, always. Set in the Warring States Period.

 "You have to let go"/Bound (Wind & Warriors) by LettersByTheLake. Linked Universe. To this day gives me chills. Short and so far from sweet. Warriors, Wind, and the terrible act of letting go.

In the Dark Zone by Just_Bonesy. Linked Universe. Who better to write horror than Bonesy? Twilight wakes up in darkness. Things get much worse from there.

In Good Company by weialala. Naruto. Sasuke can see and hear the ghosts of the previous Hokage. Ultimately, his life changes for the better, but Weialala's amazing writing will kick you in the heart first.

5. Favorite platonic pairing?

While I also ship them (although not in a dedicated or permanent capacity) I think my favorite friendship in my main fandom as a whole is Vincent and Reeve. I just really love their character dynamic post-Meteorfall, with Reeve as the benevolent dictator and Vincent as his sardonic best friend who offers deadpan snark when he does something stupid. (Someone has to, after all.)

Genesis and Zack are also super important to me, particularly since fandom as a whole seems to struggle with the fact that they do care about each other and value each other's perspective and respect one another—they have a really beautiful relationship by the end of CC, and its development is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Why do you ship Gen and Cloud? Wouldn't they have torn each other apart in canon if they met?

(Just to be clear, I ship them post-canon and that's what I'm referring to here)

Maybe I'm biased because I'm a sucker for unconventional rare pairs, but just look at them. "The man who tried to obliterate the planet and ruined my life was your friend. Our best friends were close enough that they shared a sword that we both associate with them. You tried to kill Zack. You wanted to kill me at one point. But you were a victim of Shinra too, right? I want to hate you, but I can't. I pity you. We're both connected to Sephiroth and Jenova through the cells inside of us. It wasn't your fault. Where were you when Zack died? I want to hate you but I can't.

There's so many conflicting feelings on Cloud's part, and there's moments where all he sees in Genesis is Sephiroth in a different font.

And there's the desperation and curiosity on Gen's part because he just woke up and here's that same Infantryman who's cells he wanted all those years ago. Here's the same, puny kid who killed Sephiroth. More than once. He has Angeal's sword. He used Angeal's sword. Did he know Angeal? He definitely knew Zack. What are the odds, right? This man was friends with Zack, the same Zack you want to do right by now that you've been redeemed in the eyes of the goddess. Where is Zack? He died too? Suddenly he’s in a whole new world where his friends are gone, the city you used to live in doesn't exist anymore, and the only fragment you have left of that past is this man you barely know. But there's still a chance to redeem himself. If only Cloud would let him in so he could show him that he's different, that he's not the same man he once was.

Their interactions would NOT be boring let me tell you lol. It's not enemies to lovers exactly, more like forced proximity mixed with their contrasting personalities that would make for an interesting dynamic. Genesis is pompous and proud and never shuts up, but the only person who can make him shut up is Cloud’s sarcasm, bluntness and painful honesty.

Even if you can't picture them as a romantic pairing, they have the potential to be really good friends. "Beloved" by Sinnatious on ao3 does a really good job of showing how their friendship would develop first before the romance. You should definitely check it out in case you can't envision the pairing :)

But the whole tragedy of Time just wanting to go home and not being able to, the way his fate had been sealed long before the journey just because of Termina itself. Gods it is so good. The way Sky only tried to help only to fuck it up so badly.

55. Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?

I really love writing Gojo and Higuruma. They're just fun, they have such fascinating heads.

Reader reaction/response has an impact, I think it's silly to pretend it doesn't. When people vibe with your creative works, it's really motivating. When they don't, it's kind of... well, not so motivating 🤡

However, there is (unfortunately) not really any driving force in this universe that will convince my brain to do anything other than what it wants to. Reader reaction isn't going to make me not want to write something, but it can sometimes make me feel a lot more picky about what I choose to share.

These are all AO3 handles and from a variety of fandoms: Sinnatious (FFVII), seperis (Star Trek), kitcassia (Haikyuu)

56. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

I think I'm pretty damn good at characterizing a lil dude 😤

Also dialogue. I really love dialogue and it's one of those things that sometimes shines through enough for even me to see it, all up in this fic's face, bawling my eyes out because the thesaurus is being mean to me.

The worst part is that they're practically stuck in a loop if it was Time who died because that creates Shade, who meets Twilight, and then Twilight meets Wild. So they'll just be stuck in a loop where the whole Chain, including Wind, sees Time die, and they know that means Twilight's story will occur; Time HAS to be dead for it. That's fucking insane to think about. And then Tune just knows, when he looks at Mask, he's looking at a younger version of Time, of Shade; he's not yet dead, he hasn't gone through what they went in L.U because that's Tune's past and Mask's future, that Mask will be Time, and then Time will become Shade, who will pass down the knowledge to Twilight and Wild. They're all stuck in a loop, and Tune still grieves knowing this. He looks at Mask and grieves his self in the future, grieves Time even though he's yet to really exist, even when he has in Tune's past. He grieves for someone that has yet to exist yet already existed. Maybe that's why he wants to protect Mask so much, why he wants to spend more time with him and Warriors, because he knows the outcome of what will happen, that Time will die by battle (I hc hero's purpose is one of the ways Time could have fallen since Shade has his armour), or maybe Time got lost in the Lost Woods and just... passed away there (I like to think if you actually get lost, you die and get a new name, almost like some odd fae properties that the woods have, making one loose their name, that's why he's Shade instead) The WHOLE implication of L.U happening and the chain meeting up IS A TIME LOOP, hell, even a PARADOX if you wanna throw it in, because if we think of Tune as Wind, Wind is younger, yet meets a younger Warriors and Mask. After all, Time and Warriors already know Tune, which IS INSANE. I don't know how many fanfics there are exploring the concept of L.U horrific implications as a time loop. But anyway, that's all my ramblings for now! - Fierce Anon

A Monster's Threads has "Suggested Listening" labels on certain chapters if I feel like a song blends with the content. Otherwise, no. I use music to prep BEFORE writing, but not during. I'd like to make a full spotify playlist for AMT one of these days though.
