I’m Gonna Cut Your F#cking Heart Out - The June Osborne Hit List Pt 1.
You guessed it, time for our girl to finally get her own playlist. She’s been busy to say the least, so there’s certainly surplus to requirement here. Let’s start with some of her most memorable hits from The Handmaid’s Tale season 1.
Nolite te Bastardes Carborundorum (Don’t let the bastards grind you down)
The infamous words of defiance and hope scrawled on the inside of June’s wardrobe from the previous Handmaid, who tragically, ultimately, let the bastards (Fred) grind her down. It was fitting that at the beginning of season 1, June had absolutely no idea what these words meant, but by the end of S2 she’d plastered them across the wall of her prison in foot high letters. Suitably she found this secret call to freedom destroyed upon her unceremonious return at the beginning of S2. We watched as Aunt Lydia and Serena proceeded to join forces to crush her spirit, leaving June catatonic and bleeding in the garden bed. It seemed poetic that June had to ask Fred their meaning, for their very essence incited rebellion and he was after all, her jailer. His response that it was a joke, indicated that the very concept of kicking against the system was laughable. It was a message contained in one of Fred’s boyhood school books, signifying a long since dead rebellious youth. Here in Gilead these words belong to June and she treats them like a prayer for strength against the resident “bastard” Fred, and his unending onslaught of rape and obsessive creepiness. The moment Fred is confronted by the words on June’s bedroom wall as he is held at gun point by Nick, is juxtaposed with his demise in that dark forest at the hands of Nick and June. The phrase signed off across his hung lifeless body marking June and Fred’s separation and the end of a sinister chapter. In her testimony June had asked for justice for the nameless, voiceless many and here it was at last, for the previous anonymous Handmaid who had hung herself in despair in the Waterford's attic.
Standing there in her room staring at those words, Fred of all people should have understood their subtext, but consumed with obsession and arrogance, he chose to ignore them. How was he to know they weren’t just a good old fashioned fuck you from Osborne, but also a prophetic warning.
What else is there to live for?
As much as I hated Fred, he did get some of the best lines and this one scene has three of his greats. This quote from Fred and the philosophical debate he has with June is one of my favorite Osborne moments. It encapsulates the difference in nature between their respective two worlds. Fred’s musings about life pre Gilead come loaded with allusions to men and women’s displacement from their traditional roles. Fred, and later Lawrence, argue that as these lines blurred and women attempted to exceed their “biological destinies”, men felt they lost their purpose and society crumbled. Fred believes that the sole purpose of humanity is to breed and perpetuate the human race, anything else such as love, is nothing more than sentimental garbage invented to facilitate this process. “Now you’re free to fulfil your biological destinies….what else is there to live for?” he asks “Love” June replies almost astonished at his ignorance. To her the answer is so self-evident and obvious; because unlike Fred she’s actually experienced it, and isn’t the emotional equivalent of a cavernous black hole. He scoffs dismissing it as lust, and she unfortunately overestimates the length of the leash Fred has her on. She drops the careless quip; “Maybe for you, but not for me”, questioning both his emotional depth and the authenticity of his feelings for Serena. He is less than amused. He proceeds to give her a not so subtle warning by telling her exactly what they did to Emily. It’s clear that in this world women’s needs or pleasure are not only irrelevant, but a hindrance to the cause.
Fred then drops what is possibly my favorite line for this entire series; “Every love story is a tragedy if you wait long enough”, it speaks volumes about the deterioration of his and Serena’s relationship. Once loving and affectionate it has become bitter and resentful within the bounds of Gilead, for in Gilead, anything beautiful decays. These words are both heartbreaking and loaded with foreboding, and it’s poetic that upon leaving his study she runs straight into Nick. The similarities and differences between Fred and Serena’s and Nick and June’s relationship are played out time after time throughout the seasons. This moment in particular leaves you wondering, will the other shoe indeed drop? Or are Fred and Serena actually the antithesis of what Nick and June will eventually become? Fred’s a cynic, he’s a monster but he can also recognize that Gilead comes at a personal cost to June and here we see the closest thing to an apology or at the very least an acknowledgment from Fred: “Better never means better for everyone. It always means worse for some.” It is notable that June, quotes this back to Nick in season 2, reluctant to abandon both he and Hannah in a place where love is not a purpose but merely a device.
What are you gonna trade us for? Fucking chocolate?
Here June gets her first lesson in just how much of a commodity women have become, on a global scale, even to other women. Alma lets her know from the very beginning the seedy details of the deals that are actually being made, and it sure as fuck isn’t for oranges. June unfortunately thinks that the Ambassador has some sort of interest in June’s imprisonment and if she only knew the appalling conditions June was being kept in she would undoubtedly do something about it. She’s wrong. When they first met she dutifully kept her trap shut, but then Serena had to go and parade all those children around in front of her. The spoils of Gilead and the consequence of the Handmaids enslavement. When the Ambassador turns up toting a tin of choccy to thank June for her candor about life in Gilead she lets her know exactly what being a Handmaid is all about, complete with the eye gouging and cattle prods. Contrary to belief she hasn’t sacrificed herself to the glory of Gilead; she was kidnapped, enslaved and her own child stolen. The Ambassador is of course horrified but willing to do exactly jack shit about it lest it endanger her trade deal for a shipment of Handmaids.
June’s suitably stunned and angry; she’s demanding some answers. Turns out the Ambassadors country desperately needs repopulating; although I was challenged to see what shipping over some fresh wombs would do without the whole Gilead old timey scrub down to go along with it, as this actually seemed to be the secret sauce. June accuses the Ambassador of trading the Handmaids for chocolate, it’s a stab at her moral fiber; chocolate serves no purpose but pleasure, it’s a trivial luxury, and as such she must view these women as mere chattels to trade them for it. If these people want to start trading red tags, June will make sure they see exactly what it costs them personally, and it’s a lot more than oranges and chocolate.
I’m sorry Aunt Lydia
Here we see the birth of Mayday or rather June’s true baptism as its unofficial leader. When faced with the prospect of stoning Janine to death, June chose instead to give Aunt Lydia the equivalent of the middle finger in front of her peers, complete with a smug “I’m sorry Aunt Lydia.” Much to Aunt Lydia’s horror her buddies all followed suit…..it was enough to make a cuddly old fascists blood boil. As the Handmaids walked in lockstep back to their respective homes, there was an undeniable new confident swagger to them. Nevermind, Gilead will shortly torture and terrify that out of them, but the damage is done, the rebellious rot has now set in for good.
Janine was the best behaved one out of the bunch and even she ended up a stone’s throw away from a salvaging; it could have been any one of them and they all knew it. In your run of the mill dictatorship, unquestioning loyalty is bred through fear and the reward of remaining alive. However, Gilead seemed to have made the fatal mistake of punishing it's innocent, leaving the Handmaids to reach the logical conclusion that they were fucked either way. Regimes such as these are ripe for rebellion. Gilead had unintentionally turned their handmaids attire from a ritualistic binding into a rebels uniform in one fell swoop, and unfortunately no amount of stylistic alterations were going to change it back now. This was the moment that the Handmaids realized that they had nothing to lose, and there’s nothing more dangerous than solidarity amongst those who are willing to sacrifice themselves for a cause.
While we all wait faithfully for S6, I'll be back with more playlists. See you then.

The Lady Serena review
I think, quite possibly, this was the first ever historical romance I’d ever read. Little did I know that it was written by Virginia Coffman— yes, THE Virginia Coffman, Gothic novelist extraordinaire, who was to become one of my favorite authors. In the late 1970s, under the pseudonym of Jeanne Duval, she wrote two historical novels set in ancient Rome, specifically against the reign of the Emperor Nero. I was so obsessed with this book, I read it over and over and over again. Years passed, and I lent it to a friend, who was much less enthused about it than I was. Then I read other negative reviews, and I began to think this book wasn’t so hot, and I was viewing it through rose-colored Nostalgia Goggles. Had the suck fairy come for Lady Serena?
Anyway, at last I decided to sit down and reread it. The back copy sells it as a lurid bodice-ripper about a Vestal Virgin, Serena, who has a forbidden romance with Tigellinus, Nero’s dark and sinister prefect of police. It definitely has bodice-ripper elements, but compared to many romances of the time, like The Flame and the Flower or The Wolf and the Dove, it is a masterpiece of subtlety and nuance.
Serena, a proud, practical aristocrat who’s taken vows as one of Vesta’s sacred priestesses, is increasingly tempted by Tigellinus’s masculine charms as she finds herself pulled into palace intrigue— specifically, she is called to tend to a sickly Emperor Claudius, who dies shortly after, from a surfeit of poisoned mushrooms or… possibly something else? Soon, she’s caught up in a shadowy conspiracy and a power struggle between the impulsive, lovable but erratic young emperor Nero, and his competent and frightening mother Agrippina. The depiction of these historical characters is so good, so assured and so accurate, and so free of the usual nonsense from Suetonius, it’s as if Coffman had actually met them. It’s impressive work.
The first half of the book has this languid, beautifully written atmospheric slow burn going on, which is very typical of Coffman— but the ending is exciting and cinematic, complete with battles at sea, riots, chariot chases and a gripping palace showdown. As for Tigellinus, the hero— he’s fine. He felt a bit undercharacterized— I felt that he and Serena needed a few more scenes together, but given how abysmally low the standards of romance heroes from the 1970s were, I didn’t mind him. The sex scenes are pretty short and not especially detailed, but that also seems pretty typical for the time. I did not especially buy the romance at first, but I felt much more convinced by the end, after the couple had been on the run together (which is always one of my favorite tropes).
As for Serena, at first I found her underwhelming, but I grew to like her a lot. She’s pretty naive at first, but over the course of the book she proves herself to be tough, clever, observant and in some respects, ruthless— she fends off two attempted rapists, and towards the end she coolly rescues herself from a particularly sticky situation in a way that had me pumping my fist into the air. I found her arc satisfying. She does have a lot of internal conflict, about betraying her religious vows for a relationship with a man; but she still loves and reveres Vesta. How can she reconcile these two parts of herself? The senior vestal priestess, Lady Maxima, plays a key part too: it’s great to see an older woman play a major part in a historical romance, and I loved seeing how her and Serena’s relationship developed. I thought it ended in a rewarding place— and I don’t want to spoil too much more! But yes, this aspect is definitely something I could not have appreciated as much as when I was a teenager.
The Lady Serena is also interesting in that it walks a fine line between historical-novel-with-romantic-elements and historical romance proper, which I liked. There’s a lot of Gothic elements too— misty temples, flickering torches, ominous villas and cabals of sinister senators abound— which I found to be a treat. This approach is so unusual for this setting. Also, the fact that the author is really affectionate towards Rome as a place and a culture really stands out, and the research is mostly well done.
As for the downsides, the writing is lovely, but there are some repetitive bits that could have been trimmed. Some of the plotting also can feel a bit redundant. For example, there’s two attacks (one on Serena, and another on Tigellinus) by two separate guys who lost all their money betting on some sports event and who became deranged as a result. Once is fine, I guess… but twice? Really? There’s also a few typical Roman tropes that came from old movies that have since been debunked, like galley slaves (not a thing until the early modern era), or people using chariots to travel from one place to another (they were only for races and ceremonial use, not for ordinary use). There’s also all the borked nomenclature, but that’s so typical of 90% of ancient Roman romance out there, that my eyes skim over it at this point.
Anyway, even with all that said, I love this book, and I recommend it! It’s an engrossing Gothic epic set in the ancient world with a cool and competent FMC, a respectable hero, a vibrant supporting cast of characters, and some incredible action. Sadly, there’s no ebook of this available, but paper copies abound, and the curious can find it on archive.org.

The chair spins around to reveal the source of the voice. Serena had long black hair and eyes that seemed to shine like a rainbow, she wore a lab coat and a pair of glasses. She was staring at you with a look that made your stomach drop, it took everything you had to not run out of that place.
She gets up from the chair and casually approaches you and Riza. "So this is the one I've been hearing about, it's nice to finally put a face to the name." Her voice has a sinister feel to it, almost as if she wanted to strap you down and experiment on you right there. You reflexively shiver at her voice and the thought and she lets out a sinister chuckle.
Riza sighs, "Serena stop, I'm sure that they already don't want to be here, please don't make it worse."
"Yeah, yeah, fine." Her voice loses the sinister tone, "Welcome Frisken, to my lab, where nearly every technological advancement in Spiritan has started. Not to mention where I spend most of my time these days. But, if you have anything involving science or souls done, come on over and I'll do my best to help you."
Serena's sudden shift causes all tension in you to drain away. You actually start to feel comfortable around Serena, though you still have a bit of trouble fully trusting her.
"So, the first step of everything," She grabs a strange gun looking device and points it at you, "Hold still." A light shoots out from the device and covers you. It crawls all over you before stopping. Serena puts the device down and goes over to the computer. She types something on the keyboard and a screen pops up near you. "These are the results of your initial scan."
You look over the screen and it shows a lot of basic things. Height, weight, eye color, hair color, skin color, age, pretty much stuff you already know. A couple things catch your eye though, the first being origin, but you couldn't read it. Looks like you can't even read the name of where you came from. The other data set was marked element which to your surprise was marked with question marks.
"Um, this has question marks for my element, what does that mean?"
"I'm glad you asked, it means that you have a unique soul that I have never seen before. Which means that I need to do some more invasive tests to figure it all out."
"Invasive? What do you mean by that."
Riza kneels down, "Don't worry Frisken, Serena wont hurt you. Plus, I will be here with you, and I'll make sure you don't get hurt."
"Yeah, don't worry, I take the safety of my subjects very seriously."
Riza glares at Serena when she calls Frisken a subject.
"I'm just trying to reassure the kid Riza. I'm not gonna hurt him." Serena goes over to one of the shelves in the lab.
You take a deep breath, "Ok, what does this invasive test entail?"
Serena places a large jar of a cyan liquid and a pair of gloves on one of the tables. "Well, first, I have to pull out your soul."
You feel your entire body as soon as she says this, "T-take out my s-soul? Wouldn't that k-kill me?"
"What, no, of course not. If doing so would kill you I would never suggest it. A soul can exist outside of its host for a time as long as the chain that binds it remains intact. That's what reapers do when they reap a soul, they shatter that chain so the soul can be removed from the body. The process will cause your body to feel numb and you wont be able to move much, so that is a side-effect. But, I can assure you, this is completely safe and I have done this a lot, just ask Riza." Serena gives Riza a seductive look and Riza blushes.
"Serena, there is a child present."
Serena lets out a laugh, "My point is, I may not be as skilled as a reaper but I'm able to handle souls just as well. Now, up on the table with you." She pats the table she has the jar on as she puts the gloves on. They are black with lines on the fingers with small orbs at the knuckles.
You do as you are instructed and sit up on the table. You can feel your heart pounding in your chest. You can hardly sit still and it takes everything you have to not sprint out of the lab.
Serena takes the lid off the jar and dunks her hands into the liquid inside. When she pulls them out, they seem to glow slightly. "Alright Frisken," Her voice has become calm and almost soothing, "Are you ready to do this?"
You look over at Riza who comes over and places a hand on yours. You feel a strange warmth from her touch and you take a deep breath before exhaling. "Yeah, let's get this over with."
"Alright, hold still." Serena takes her left hand and points it toward your chest before slowly bringing it toward you. As her fingers would touch your chest you see them pass into you. You let out a loud gasp and jump slightly. You can feel as her hand slowly dives deeper into you until it touches your soul. The moment you feel a finger on your soul it feels like she is touching you everywhere. As her hand encloses on your soul it feels as if she were squeezing you in a vice. Your body starts to go numb and it becomes hard to breathe, you want to tell her to stop but your voice escapes you. You watch as she begins retracting your hand and in a moment a red glow shines before you.
In Serena's hand is a small red orb, giving off a soft glow, a small tendril connecting to your chest hanging from it. Serena stares at it, slowly turning her hand to see every angle. After what feels like an eternity she finally says, "Well Frisken, say hello to your soul."
You are in utter shock as you stare at this small orb. You struggle to speak, "So, that is what a soul looks like?"
"Yes, though they are not normally this color. Your soul has a very bright red color as you can see. I will need to collect a sample so that I can run some tests. With her other hand, she picks up a syringe and dips the end in the liquid from before. She positions the point on the edge of your soul. "This is going to be painful and uncomfortable, I am sorry."
You close your eyes and nod your head and Serena inserts the needle. You feel the pain of being stabbed throughout your whole body and then feel yourself being drained of energy before the need is removed. You open your eyes to see the syringe filled with a red liquid, which Serena carefully puts down.
When she looks away, you see what you thought was movement on your soul. "Um, Serena," You struggle to say, "Is it normal for things to be moving on my soul?"
Serena looks at you confused, "What, no, that is most certainly not normal. That could be a major problem, I will need to get rid of that quickly." Serena begins carefully scanning your soul again, her eyes developing a star shape in them. She searches before finally spotting something and pinching it between her fingers. From what you can see, it looks like the strand connecting your soul to you.
You suddenly feel an immense pain in your head and chest. You can hear what sounds like screaming in your head and like something is being ripped from your chest.
Before you have time to process everything you hear, "Stop it, leave me alone!" That came out of your mouth but it wasn't your voice.
Serena looks at you confused, "Frisken, that wasn't your voice. Who was that?"
Before you can say anything, "It's me, the one your about to crush between your fingers."
A realization comes to Serena, "Ah, so the parasite can talk, and it's asking for mercy."
"I'm not a parasite, I didn't choose to be here. Please, just leave me alone."
"Well, do you have a name then?"
The room is silent for a moment, "Chaldra."

im the anon who said jack dismisses claire. i started watching from s6 and just stopped around s13 (got bored the intricacy of the cases really faded) and the way he treated her compared to ross or even serena is crazy. every time he ‘listens’ to her ideas his attitude gives ‘im doing this ditzy bitch a favour’ and it’s so condescending. also LOL @ the black activists. they’re actually sick with it because some of the blaccents and mindsets are just racism 101. almost right wing ideology fr. they start to add more nuance around s8 but even then. think criminal intent has the most nuance for black activists off the bat and then svu but the latter was real rough there for a second. everyone was a gangster/stripper/prostitute or nation of islam parody it’s nuts. but sometimes the dialogue is so overblown it’s funny like i think l&o is where i heard yakubian monkey for the 1st time in regard to yt ppl and i killed me i could stop saying it for weeks 😭
like you can’t tell me he didn’t hire her to fuck her lmao. he dgaf about anything she had to say he had one mission and one mission only. he’s constantly arguing her down and condescending like damn you can’t even pretend? she made mistakes and her inexperience showed with ben stone but he definitely showed her respect. the difference in treatment is so stark. and jack having requested her personally is so much more sinister given her history with having been pursued by that judge and having that coming out very publicly. well in the end i hope she haunts him to the end of time. cause after her there’s a shift.
literally there are no good black activists in the old episodes now that i think about it lmfaooo. like there are black people who have reasonable opinions but none of the activists are good people at all. and it’s not even close - every black person who engages with racial politics is a domestic terrorist or just evil. like ok dick wolf tell us how you really feel. ur 100% correct on it being rw ideology. and even in svu the most recent black activist story line where olivia ends up being the hero was giving a little white savior like ok. i guess.
LMFAOOOO yakubian monkey omggg. unfortunately that may have been written by real new yorkers who have been actually subject to noi niggas on the street. i’d believe that as a direct quote

Is there a Doctor Alchemy on this flight?
Every Flash-Fan, whether you watched the CW series or simply are a comic fan-whatever, knows Dr Alchemy
Albert Desmond is undoubtly the most popular one as he's "the 1st Doctor" and has been serving this role non-stop pretty much since 2004, but there were some "proteges" I'd like to delve into, hence this post will be about nearly everything
So, once upon a time in popculture there used to exist this trope of "opposite twins":
-Samantha & Serena in Bewitched (which seems to be the primal source of this trend),
-Gwen & Sunny in Ben10,
-Wayne & Lucien from The Cramp Twins and many many more
Anyway, in
July '80; in The Flash #287
Cary Bates starts the arc with Dr Alchemy's attack at the lab in CCPD. Naturally, the last wearer of the mantle - Al Desmond, comes first to Barry's mind, although he doesn't want to believe that Al would revert to his criminal career
'cause here's the thing: Mister Element appeared in Showcase #13 whereas Dr Alchemy debuted in Showcase #14, where even Flash pointed out the quick change in Desmond's alter ego
What's even more interesting, it seemed like Al just "wanted to be" a criminal
Since then, Al did his time in prison, became a model citizen...
Well, it wasn't perfect, because he happened to have few relapses now and then, whether he:
was mind-controlled by Professor Zoom [The Flash #147]
was possesed by this "evil star" that aCtUalLy had been influencing his mental condition from the beginning [The Flash #216]
orrr was possesed by a demon? [The Flash #230]
In The Flash #153 Albert feels an urge towards doing evil, hence he behaves compulsively, firstly imitating having a gun, attempting to rob a restaurant and then suiting up in Element's costume
He later returns as Mr Element in order to rescue Flash, simultaneously deceiving Thawne ['cause Zoom believed that was the result of his "evil-making machine"] Fortunately, Barry takes Al to 25th century, where the latter goes through some "electro-re-education programme"
[at least it worked all right here, right Alex DeLarge?]
Later on, Al relinquishes "the Dr Alchemy-self" in The Flash #230
[aight, I know, sorry for this long interlude but I found it necessary to include it - now back to #287]
Upon meeting Desmonds, Rita - Al's wife, reveals that her husband's been absent at the time of Alchemy's assault, further increasing Barry's suspicion; police arrives, takes Albert to custody and not long after - Dr Alchemy escapes, ultimately leading Allen to a terryfying conclusion
But, reaching the final page, the reader finds out that
*tum tum tuuuum*
The Flash #288
Soooo the new Dr Alchemy is an Al Desmond. Both Desmonds happen to be "astral/platonic twins":
-they both were born into Desmond families [although they aren't really related]
-they both are fond of chemistry
-they have the same voice
And the most interesting aspect about their "connection" - while one is a good citizen, the other tends to behave violently, albeit this doesn't explain Al's becoming a criminal in the first place
and yeah, second-Albert created a hypnotic serum, which he named...desmondium
...right
As the second-Albert battles and seemingly wins over Flash, he proudly reveals his secret. Barry obviously gets out of the trap, but at least now his mind is at ease about Albert. Talking about Albert, what's up with him?
...
[*sets "Without me" by Eminem]
The Flash #289
That's right, Mr Element's back in action, but despite his previous returns, this time Al ain't sinister nor controlled - he's deliberately a good guy, whose only goal is to stop Dr Alchemy. Albert donned his old alter ego as he felt responsible for Dr Alchemy's deeds
Barry learns from Rita about Alchemy's potential hideout.
And so, the final battle between Dr Alchemy, Flash and Mr Element...doesn't happen as Al's quickly rendered unconcious, but heyy, Barry's here to save the day
And so, the two pals walk into the night as Al confesses that it's over finally
...
The Flash vol 2 40
Years later, Wally tries to exorcise an irish ghost out of Linda. In order to do that, they pay a visit to Albert Desmond who apparently inhabits now a goth-like mansion
And then...Albert?
So not only does he look different, but he behaves oddly, too. He's clearly obsessed with recreating the Philosopher's Stone for some reason
aight, it's Alvin
But what is "concerning" is his usage of that stone; Alvin seems out of practice, sloppy and uncreative when it comes to choosing the post-transformed product; he makes a few pauses, ponders too long over what the Stone can transform things into
To put it simply, isolation & obession drove him even more insane, rendering him insensible
But well, Wally manages to defeat him; he and Linda find the real Albert Desmond
poor guy...well anyway, hopefully this time it's really ov--
Ehh, for fock's sake...
The Flash vol 2 41
Alvin somehow breaks out [only leaving a salty statue of himself behind in the cell] and creates chaos for kicks, but suprisingly - this time he utilises the Philosopher Stone's powers quite well even going as far as to defeating Wally
Simultaneously Albert returns as Mr Element, but it still isn't enough to beat Alvin
Then a slight retcon happens while Wally realizes that Alvin is pretty much just a manifestation of Al's evilness with fake memories implemented by the Stone itself. In result, Al accepts the reality and destroys Alvin once and for all - FOR REAL this time
In Who's who in DC Universe #14 we find out that, sadly, after retrieving the Philosopher Stone, Albert started to become more and more seduced by his artefact
And it looks like he gave in, 'cause he appears few times in Waid's run
When Johns took over, he made Albert into a stereotypical mystic, who spends a lot of time on reading and practising alchemy [even his cell's been decorated in goth-theme] and he stays this way till N52&Rebirth
But before I get to that "version", lemme talk a bit about the third Alchemy - perhaps the lest known, Curtis Engstrom. He worked as an advisor on a S.T.A.R. Labs project that would use Philosopher's Stone's special properties to cure blood diseases. He of course stole both the device and the Stone. In prison he met a guy, who later tricked him, stealing the device from the first thief. Curtis decided to get his revenge on the guy, got the Philosopher's Stone, calling himself the Alchemist. Engstrom, despite lack of experience, cleverly uses the Stone's power i.e. by creating copper stalagmites while it's raining [electricity conducive] or by lacing an area with thin molybdenum strings [sharp enough to slice Flash] Engstrom only appears in two issues - The Flash #71-72
Rebirth
In Rebirth Albert does appear a few times. In The Flash #764-766 Albert tricks Barry into wielding Philosopher's Stone in order to control Flash himself; oh and he kinda absorbs Stone's powers so he doesn't physically need it anymore
A propos, depending on the issue, Albert either used the Stone to access powers or used it to channel his powers
Exemplary:
-in The Flash #216 Al revealed that the elemental-gun only concencrated his elemental energy, although nothing like this had ever happened before
-albeit in The Flash #230 a similar thing happened, this instance regarding Dr Alchemy, thus he didn't need the Philosopher's Stone anymore
-ever since the Alchemy-excorsion, Al has been constantly using his Elemental Gun
[The Flash #41 & the coolest Mr Element design, along with his cool af machine gun]
-then in Rebirth Al initially used the Philosopher's Stone embeded in a ring, but later he acquired the Stone's powers thanks to lighzinium - a protective material layered on the Flash-ring by Barry
...
Additional notes: °although mostly it's been implied that Al's identity disorder wasn't caused by the Philosopher's Stone, The Flash #765 clearly states a connection between those two aspects °the ring from The Flash #764-766 resembles greatly the Dragon-Eye one back from #216
°reaction-image
°intriguing, but whenever Dr Alchemy appeared in Waid's Flash-run he has never been referred to by his name; NOT ONCE
In fact in Waid's run he looks a lot more like Alvin, although considering the Who's who in DC Universe we have to think it's actually Allbert
°more interesting, The Flash vol 2 Annual 8 takes place right before Messner-Loebs' run and guess who's the villain of the week?
That's right, Dr Alchemy, whose name's never called out and in opposition to later issues we can't assume it's Albert under the mas--the hood
What's even funnier, present Wally's telling Linda that story, mentioning at the end "amazingly enough, Alchemy would eventually turn up again...and again that's another story"
If Wally'd be talking about #40-#41, then it's stupid cos Linda knows about that incident first hand cos she was there
°[*"The Man who sold the world" plays in the back*]
Thug: So uhh mr Desmond, how much of that gold do we need to transform?
Albert:

"Sorry, but I can't have that." Wong replaced his disc with another whip and lashed both out, wrapping around both of Serena's wrists.
Shadows of the Sanctum
The Sanctum is quiet, too quiet, considering the tension in the air. As you step inside, a faint shimmer of distorted reality prickles at your skin. It’s subtle, but you can tell something’s wrong. The ambient light is dimmer, casting elongated shadows that seem to watch you.
Suddenly, footsteps echo down the grand staircase. Serena descends, but there’s something off about her. Her posture is sharper, more calculated. She’s dressed in a dark, purple sorceress suit, and her once warm, bright eyes have a cold, shadowed gleam. Her smile, thin and laced with a sinister amusement, doesn’t reach her eyes.
“Well, well…” She stops on the last step, tilting her head as if studying a specimen. “A visitor from Earth-616. Strange didn’t mention we’d be expecting anyone.” Her voice is smooth, too controlled, as if she’s weighing every word like a weapon.

The Reverse Honey Trap
“I guess this is the opposite of a honey trap, eh, captain?” Valerie smiled as she tied the naked man’s ankles together. The senior police officer could neither agree nor disagree thanks to the panties gag pushed into his mouth and tied in place with pantyhose. Valerie glanced up at her companion, the serene Tanya, who had just finished tying up the equally compromised Sergeant Parker. Tanya smiled back. “You know, gents - where two dumbass cops get tricked by two leather miniskirted female crooks and lose their badges, guns, cars and provide the girls with blackmail material for as long as the witches want!” the dark haired temptress went on. “You seen that movie?” Both furious and humiliated men tossed and turned in the ropes that bound them, refusing to engage.
“Well, you will soon.” Valerie went on and to the bound men’s horror, Serena beckoned in a third grinning woman, clad more functionally in t shirt and jeans but wielding a video camera. “And your wives will too, if you don’t co-operate gentlemen.” the blonde haired vixen added with a sinister smile…

📝 - Your OC is handed a piece of paper and a pencil, and given nothing else to do in an empty room for an hour. Do they write? Draw? Ignore the paper and daydream?
for whoever you want<3
For this one let's do Luna :)
(Luna's POV)
As your consciousness returns, your eyes flutter open to darkness. You instinctively bolt upright, arms up and ready to defend yourself from an unknown threat. Your heart races as you wait for an attack that never comes. Gradually, you start to make out the details of the room you're in - an empty, windowless chamber with cool, smooth walls that seem to be made of concrete or stone.
Your eyes dart around the room, scanning for any signs of danger. The silence is oppressive, broken only by your own ragged breathing. Your mind races with questions - how did you get here? Who brought you here? And most importantly, why?
As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you start to notice the small details of the room - a faint musty odor, a single rusted pipe protruding from the wall, and a thick layer of dust on the floor. But there's no sign of an exit, no clue as to where you are or how to get out.
Then you eyes caught something on the ground, is a piece of white paper with something written on it.
You quickly grab it and read it's contents.
Your OC is handed a piece of paper and a pencil, and given nothing else to do in an empty room for an hour. Do they write? Draw? Ignore the paper and daydream?
for whoever you want<3
"An ask paper!" you groaned out, knowing that Author is the one who put you here.
Your mind races with a sudden realization that hits you like a ton of bricks - you're trapped here, and it's no accident. The pieces start to fall into place as you remember the last thing you saw before everything went black - the face of Author, twisted into a sinister grin.
Your heart sinks as you realize that you've fallen right into their trap. The anger and frustration that boil up inside you are almost too much to bear. You grit your teeth and clench your fists, trying to keep your emotions in check.
"So basically they kidnap me so that they can do this ask." you say.
"Very well if that's what they want, then that's the one they will get!"
You take a deep breath and try to remain calm despite the anger and frustration simmering inside you. You know that your best chance of escaping this situation is to play along with Author's twisted game.
Grabbing a nearby pencil, you start to write down the names of the people who may have helped Author kidnap you. Elrick and Serena are the first names that come to mind, and you jot them down on the paper.
As you write, you start to brainstorm ideas for revenge. You know that you don't want to resort to violence, but you're determined to make Elrick and Serena regret ever crossing you. You start to jot down some possible methods of revenge, your mind racing with possibilities.
Public Humiliation: You'll find a way to expose their secrets and weaknesses to the world, leaving them vulnerable and exposed.
Ruining Their Reputation: You'll spread rumors and lies about them, tarnishing their good name and making them social pariahs.
Give Them A Dose Of Their Own Medicine: You could set up a fake scenario that would make them think they're in danger, just like you are now.
With a pencil in hand, you spent the next hour furiously jotting down possible plans for revenge. The sound of lead scratching against paper fills the otherwise silent room, as you pour all your anger and frustration into the page.
Finally, you hear a sound that snaps you back to reality - the creaking of a door opening. Your head snaps up, and you see Author standing in the doorway, their twisted grin sending a chill down your spine.
"Luna, I hope you had a wonderful time in there?" Author says in a gleeful tone.
"Very much," you say calmly, the words slipping out almost effortlessly.
You watch Author's face for any hint of what they're thinking, but their expression remains inscrutable. You feel a cold sweat starting to break out on your forehead as you wonder what they have in store for you next.
"Well then, you may go out now and I think the room is gonna be use for another one!" Author claps their hands.
You stand up and exited the room, hiding the paper and planning the day and time when you will exact your revenge.
