AL AIN (UAE): Double Paralympic medallist Singhraj Adhana secured a quota for India at the 2024 Paris Paralympics after signing off at the fourth place in the P1 - men's 10m Air Pistol SH1 event at the Para Shooting World Championships on Wednesday. The 40-year-old Indian, who won a silver and a bronze at Tokyo Paralympics last year, was in title contention as he led for a major part of the event until a score of seven spoiled his medal chances. While he finished fourth, Korea's Jo Jengdu clinched the gold with a score of 235.7 followed by Poland's Sowinski Szymon (233.1) and Ibragimov Server (213.3). Singhraj was part of the Indian shooting team -- also comprising Manish Narwal and Nihal Singh -- which claimed its second gold medal in the ongoing Championships in the team event of the P1- Men's 10m Air Pistol SH1. The Indian team aggregated a total score of 1704-34x, riding on Paralympic champion Narwal's 575-17x score that put him in second place in the rankings for the finals. The Indian team was followed by Korea (1697-39x) and Turkey (1674-32x). India coach JP Nautiyal said: "The team has done very well, scoring 1704 in Air Pistol is great. I am very happy that we started with a quota from Singhraj at the Worlds." Earlier, Indian pistol shooters, led by Rahul Jakhar, won the team gold in P3- Mixed 25m Pistol SH1. Sports news today: India ends an unprecedented campaign at Tokyo Paralympics.

The Tokyo Paralympics 2020 have finally come to an end and with that, India’s Golden run at the games have also ended. India Para athletes have won a total of 19 medals. To put that into perspective, from the inaugural Paralympics in 1968 to 2016, India managed to win just 12 medals in total, but his edition saw Indians winning 19 medals out of which 5 are gold, 8 are silver and the rest are bronze. India sent a contingent of 54 para-athletes out of which 15 were successful in winning a medal and two athletes- Avani Lekhara and Singhraj Adhana won 2 medals each. This means that a whopping 31% of athletes returned to India as medalists. At the medal tally, India stands at the 24th position at the end of the games.

The games have now come to an end and yesterday was the closing ceremony of the games. Avani Lekhara was the flagbearer for India at the closing ceremony of the games.

Adhana Singhraj won bronze in the men's 10m air pistol event on Tuesday. The 35-year-old had polio when he was one but has learnt to walk unaided. He shoots from a sitting position and honed his skills under JP Nautiyal and Subhash Rana. India's Manpreet Singhraj won gold in the P1 men's air pistol final of the SH1 category. Yang Chao and Huang Xing of China won gold and silver respectively.
