Hey, are you still alive?
I'm worried about you...
I've been a fan of Sentire for a long time and it's been half a year since you last posted and you said that life has been hard in October... Is everything okay?
Hello! And I'm sorry 😭😭😭 Still very much alive, thank you for asking.
I've been working on the second half & ending of Sentire for a couple months now. TL;DR I'm trying to finish it all so I can upload it in one go. I'll definitely make a big announcement when it's live!
Longer story after the cut, but that's pretty much it. Thank you for enjoying Sentire 💜 Sincerely, sincerely appreciate you.
The longer explanation!
Writing got really difficult for me in the second half. In Sentire, one of my OCs is Eris Travers. She is loosely based on my own childhood and trauma. Pretty much everything, except the fire/deaths in the house thing. This all ended up being a really dumb idea, because I was unearthing a lot right before the holidays (where long story short, I was seeing my low-contact parents twice). Not to mention Alabaster is based off my abusive ex, who... well, you'll see what happens with that one.
Anyway, I'm much better now and in a better peace of mind. Writing Lenne's story instead of Terra's has been a good cleanse mentally, and a good bunch of those stories are on TikTok now. But I'm working on both now.
I haven't made any changes to Eris' character, but instead am using this story as a way to move forward. My current deadline with Sentire is June due to work constraints, but I think I'll be able to get that out earlier.
If you ended up reading this, well... 💜 fr.

It Couldn’t Hurt To Smile
Chapter 1 - Dreams Come True
I scrolled website after website looking for shows that had open auditions. Nothing. My black walls covered with playbills and posters of musicals and broadways that I've seen.
I've been in a few as well. Such as a high school production of Wicked. I somehow managed to land myself the role of Elphaba. It was amazing.
So I switched majors to be an actress. I knew that's what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Which my parents weren't to fond of, but I told them to deal with it. They can't keep me from doing something I love. I've always loved Broadway, even before I was in Wicked.
I continued to scroll when I came across Newsies. I smiled widely and eagerly clicked on it. It's going on tour? That's a first. Literally. I watched the screen as the small circle in the center span round and round until eventually the page popped up.
Stupid slow WiFi.
They were looking for a new female role to be the love interest of JoJo. I smiled wide. That's my favorite newsie. Even though he's only a background character, he's still so awesome. I read their requirements, meeting almost all of them.
I continued to read, noticing they want a recorded audition of yourself singing a few songs, and saying some of the lines. Apparently they're adding a small duet? That's awesome!
The Newsies name is flip, because apparently she's supposed to do a lot of flips or something. That sounds like something I can do.
I went into the parking garage, quickly singing some of the songs. All of my neighbors know I like to sing, and are all okay with me singing in the large parking garage, since I do audition sometimes. I also did some of the lines they provided.
I finished by recording myself doing some flips on the concrete floors, and doing some other tricks as well.
I emailed them to the Director Jeff Calhoun, and also sent in the other requirements that aren't video-ed, such as a picture of my ID, and other information.
—————
It hadn't even been two days before I received an email back, and even better it said:
Dear Kiara Travers,
We are so excited to welcome you to Newsies First National tours family! We can't wait to all meet you! Just a reminder, you will be surrounded by boys who don't know how to keep to themselves, so keep that in mind when you pick out your clothing attire.
We will be having a group meeting at the Nederlander theater at 12:00 p.m to get to know each other. Particularly the people with love interest's. The outfits are meant to be casual, for example sweat shirt and sweat pants, or anything nicer. However, We do ask it to be nothing fancy.
Again, we are so excited to meet you and can't wait to start our journey with you! More details will be shared at the meeting! If anything changes, please let us know.
Sincerely,
      Newsies Staff
I smiled widely as I read it. I quickly pulled off my smile, and acted as sad as I could, also allowing a tear to roll down me cheek to be more believable.
"Winnie!" I yelled to my best friend. I had told her about this, but we both didn't expect me to get in, especially not this early after I sent the email.
"What!" She shouts, running into my room, her long brunette braids bouncing on her back. "Kiara I'm so sorry." She says hurrying over to me. I guess those acting lessons paid off. I slowly smiled.
"Oh my god!" She shouts excitedly. We both start jumping up and down.
Dreams come true. They really do.

Psychoanalysis Sunday: Letters Home
Non-magical AU where Regulus is put in therapy with a psychoanalyst
Part 1 | Previous | Next
Regulus,
I assume that you have not perished while away at school. Even under the present administration, I would like to think that your father and I would be informed if such an incident had occurred. Nevertheless, it has been nearly a month since we have heard from you and I can think of no other reason why this might be the case.
If I do not hear from you soon, I will be forced to imagine the worst.
With affection,
Walburga Black
-
Dearest Mother,
I hope that my letter finds you and father in good health. I apologize for not writing sooner. I have been immensely busy with my studies. Of course, I am not nearly as behind as some of the students here. There is one unfortunate child in my year who appears to have received absolutely no instruction whatsoever before enrolling at Hogwarts. His parents work in a factory and his clothes all smell of soot.
I am quite glad of the head start from the tutoring you and father provided for us, but I nevertheless find myself quite busy. My professors know that I need a bit of a challenge and are happy to provide it for me.
I am greatly enjoying my time at Hogwarts, although I do miss home. I look forward to seeing you and the rest of the family when I return for winter break.
Your loving son,
Regulus Black
P.S. Evan would like me to ask if you could have Kreacher send us some jam tarts please.
-
Regulus,
Professor Slughorn has informed me that you have taken an interest in football. I do hope that that is not what has been pre-occupying your time, such that you cannot even write home to your family. Minding your studies is one thing, but frittering your time away engaged in foolish sport is quite another.
I suppose I can see if Kreacher has the time to spare. Does your friend not have his own family to provide him with sweets? I hope you have been making connections with other well-bred students as well. You should be branching out and making your mark at Hogwarts. Do not disappoint me.
Sincerely,
Walburga Black
-
Dear Mother,
Evan and I are most grateful for the care package Kreacher sent. I made sure to share a few with my new friends before Evan could devour them all. He certainly does have family of his own and they do provide him with sweets and food all the time, and he is always trying to break into the kitchens here as well. It is a wonder he is not ten times the size he is with how much he eats.
I can assure you that my interest in football is not taking away from my studies, nor will I allow it to interfere with my communication with my family. It does, however, provide me with a unique opportunity to make connections with other students here. I have become rather friendly with Oscar Fawley, who is on the varsity team. Hope Selwyn and Mitzy Travers are planning to try out for the girls' team next year and we practice together when we have time. Evan joins as well sometimes, but he is not a very good sport, and I think he upsets the girls.
I do hope that Slughorn has given you an otherwise good report on my progress at school. I would never wish to disappoint you.
With love,
Regulus Black
-
Regulus,
It is good to hear that you are building connections through athletic activity. I have tried to explain to your mother that it is important for young men to engage in team sports, but you know how she can be. She worries about you.
It is charitable of you to help your female classmates practice, but if you are planning to try out next year, I advise that you find yourself a proper challenge. Perhaps you can persuade the young Mr. Fawley to give you some pointers.
Signed: Orion
-
"See, I told you it won't do you any good to keep prancing about with the girls. Your father knows what he's talking about," Evan says.
Regulus turns and shoots him an annoyed look. "Will you stop reading over my shoulder?"
Evan shrugs. "No."
Regulus rolls his eyes. "Well, maybe if you could go for more than ten minutes without getting bored and chucking the ball at my head, I could practice with you instead."
"That is helping you practice! You ought to be thanking me instead of moaning with the girls about it."
Regulus sighs and pulls out a piece of stationary, twisting the tip of his pen in his fingers. Evan comes up behind him and yanks the pen out of his hands.
"Here," he says, "let me draft your response to your father."
Regulus raises his eyebrows. "Pardon?"
Evan grins. "No, listen. Your father will love it. Guaranteed."
Regulus does not for a second believe Evan's guarantee, but he does believe that whatever Evan thinks Regulus ought to say in his letter home will be amusing, so he lets Evan do it anyway. Evan reads the letter out loud to Regulus when he is finished and it is, predictably, the most absurd and inappropriate letter imaginable. Both boys are in a fit of giggles by the end of it and Regulus completely forgets to write an actual response to his father.

Open Letter to John Lee Hancock
Dear Mr. Hancock,
I have watched your film Saving Mr. Banks, a story in which Walt Disney screws P. L. Travers out of the rights to her classic childrens story Mary Poppins, twisting it into a form she does not recognize or approve of.
I have watched your film The Founder, a story in which Ray Kroc screws Richard and Maurice McDonald out of their innovative restaurant McDonalds, twisting it into a form they do not recognize or approve of.
So I ask of you, Mr. Hancock, what is next in the Businessman Screws Over Artists Cinematic Universe (or BSOACU)?
You have used your platform to take down the giant of the entertainment industry (The Walt Disney Corporation), as well as the giant of the food industry (General Mi- I mean The McDonalds Corporation). Therefore it makes sense to end your trilogy targeting the giant of... let's say... the tech industry!
Hence forth, I expect you to start pre-production on the Elon Musk biopic by the start of Q2 2023. There should be a scene explicitly showing the emerald mines in Zambia his father owned during the Apartheid era. You may not think it's relevant to the narrative of how he strongarmed Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning out of Tesla Motors back in 2007, but trust me, it is.
America is counting on you John Lee Hancock, and by America, I mean the world!
Sincerely,
The Poppet Sisters

France Castel’s Farewell
On June 4, France Castel had a long interview on ICI Radio Canada, where she confessed that like Maurane she found it challenging to separate herself from the character. She was the same age as her character Stella Spotlight and experienced similar addiction issues. So, the lines “Ce soir j’irai voir à travers le miroir si la vie est éternelle” reflected her real self.
France Castel is 80 and for this broadcast she recorded “Les adieux d'un sex symbol” with her friend Louise Forestier among others on the back vocals.
It’s a true sincere and mature farewell, as France Castel is planning to retire.
Starmania section is between 1hr 15 min and 1 ht 40 minutes -
❤️ it is very courageous to be so honest and sincere about challenging situation in life. I hope Starmania fans can treat these confessions with respect and without mockery. 🙏

🟢☘️ 𝐋'É𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐄 𝐃𝐔 𝐉𝐎𝐔𝐑 👉☘️ Avez-vous la vraie foi en Dieu
🔑 https://www.luciolededieu.org
… Tout est possible à celui qui croit. » (Marc 9 : 23).
Et je me suis aussi souvenu d’un autre passage de mots : “You must have faith that everything is in God’s hands, and that humans are merely coordinating with Him. If you are sincere, God will see it and He will open up all paths for you, making difficulties no longer difficult. You must be confident in this.”

Lord Dashwood Missed Out. By Tessa Dare. Avon
Rating: 4/5 stars
Genre: historical romance, novella
Part of a Series? Yes, Spindle Cove 4.5
Summary: Miss Elinora Browning grew up yearning for the handsome, intelligent lord-next-door…but he left England without a word of farewell. One night, inspired by a bit too much sherry, Nora poured out her heartbreak on paper. Lord Dashwood Missed Out was a love letter to every young lady who’d been overlooked by gentlemen—and an instant bestseller. Now she’s on her way to speak in Spindle Cove when snowy weather delays her coach. She’s forced to wait out the storm with the worst possible companion: Lord Dashwood himself.
George Travers, Lord Dashwood, has traveled the globe as a cartographer. He returned to England with the goal of marrying and creating an heir--only to find his reputation shredded by an audacious, vexingly attractive bluestocking and her poison pen. Lord Dashwood Missed Out, his arse. Since Nora Browning seems to believe he overlooked the passion of a lifetime, Dash challenges her to prove it.
***Full review below.***
Content Warnings: graphic sexual content, blood
Overview: Finishing up the Spindle Cove novellas. What can I say? I'm a completist.
Writing: Dare's prose in this novella is comparable to that of the other installments in this series. It's quick, humorous, clear, and well-balanced, and I don’t have all that much to add to my precious reviews.
Plot: The non-romance plot of this book follows Elinora "Nora" Browning, who finds herself trapped in a snowstorm with her childhood best friend (and crush), George Travers (Lord Dashwood). After Dashwood treats her cruelly and fails to say goodbye before departing in a multi-year sea journey, Nora pens an essay about the fickleness of men and the pressure for women to get married. The essay grants her some amount of fame, enough that the ladies of Spindle Cove have invited her to give a reading and a lecture at their local library. En route to Spindle Cove, Nora finds herself traveling with none other than Dashwood himself, newly returned to England. The two bicker about her essay until suddenly, the carriage slides in the snow and is left useless. While the footman takes the horses to the nearest inn, Nora and Dashwood find shelter in an abandoned cottage, and to their dismay, are left in each other's company until morning.
What I liked about this plot was that the scope felt appropriate for the length. Dare didn't try to fit a novel-length story into a novella, nor did she try to worldbuild so much that the details made the story feel cramped. Instead, Dare relied on the context of Spindle Cove to do most of the work and focused mostly on her characters.
That being said, I don't know if I'd recommend this novella to people who haven't read the rest of the series. It could theoretically stand on its own, but readers will already know most of the characters and their histories if they've read the other books first.
As for things I disliked about this novella, I do think the reveal at the end (Dashwood's role in how the night progressed) felt a bit empty. Without spoiling anything, I will say that I think his role made his emotions throughout the novella feel retroactively insincere, and I would have much rather read a story that came from a place of sincerity. The emotions would have felt a little more richer, at least to me.
Characters: Nora, our heroine, is admirable in that she is unafraid to stick up for herself and is incredibly stubborn. I loved that she refused to compromise on her values and didn't let Dashwood off the hook easily, and I loved that she was unapologetic about her essay.
Dashwood, our hero, was interesting at first because he seemed to be genuinely upset about Nora's essay, and I loved seeing the two clash. While he was quarreling with Nora, it seemed like both of them had understandable reasons for being angry, and I was curious as to how they would work things out. Over time, however, I didn't quite see the appeal of Dashwood as a love interest, and I wished there was more to him than just he was kind to Nora in the past.
Supporting characters almost entirely come from the rest of the Spindle Cove series, and whether or not you like them will depend on whether or not you found them engaging in the other books. Not much work is done to give them any minor character arcs except for the arc between Pauline and Griff, which was simple and light enough not to distract from the main narrative.
Romance: The romance between Nora and Dashwood was simple yet fit the scope of the story. A lot of it relied on the two having a past history, which was explored just enough to feel like it mattered. I appreciated that Dare didn't try to create a situation in which the two met and fell in love in the span of one night; instead, the arc seems to be that they were both already in love with each other yet had a past that needed to be addressed.
I very much enjoyed how the two got under the other's skin. It's not that I like seeing couples fight, but I liked how the characters could provoke feelings of intense emotion without the argument becoming toxic. Instead, the anger that they feel turns from annoyance to hurt to emotional intimacy, and I think Dare did a good job showing how the two finally forced each other to be open with their feelings.
TL;DR: Lord Dashwood Missed Out is notable for its unapologetic heroine and an appropriate scope, creating a plot just complex enough for its length. Romance readers who enjoy tropes such as "lovers trapped together during a snowstorm" and "there's only one bed" will probably enjoy this book, though I wouldn't recommend it if the reader hasn't read the other installments in the series.

There was a slight frown upon Albus' face, not exactly enjoying the compliments. Or rather, he could not allow himself to enjoy the attention otherwise he risked falling back into old habits. And oh how tempting it was to let Gellert's charm wash over him. Just being next to him and feeling the heat radiating between them had him paralyzed and temporarily at a loss for words. He never quite knew what to expect when standing before Gellert these days. Most of the time, their dialogue turned bitter and unbearable. Gellert was always polite in his greetings, but never since reuniting had Albus been greeted like this.
Some part of Albus reasoned that this was simply a trick; that this was Gellert's way of tripping him up. Instead of berating Albus per usual about being the Ministry's puppet, he would take another approach and leave Albus at a loss. And IF that was his plan, it was working to a degree. The Hogwarts professor found himself chewing his lip and trying to ignore the magical ( and physical ) pull Gellert's extended presence was making him feel. Perhaps this was why he always kept his distance whenever they crossed paths.
Albus couldn't remember feeling like this the last few times they met. Or maybe it was the troth's magic making it easier to feel things now. He felt so weak most days at work that it was no wonder Gellert had gotten into his head earlier. It frightened Albus to say the least, but not so much because it was Gellert. It was merely the idea of being controlled with something like the Imperius Curse that worried him. Without his mind shields…
He didn't want to think about it. He just needed to be grateful that the one in his head was the mastermind that he knew well as opposed to… someone else.
Albus rolled his eyes, but that was yet another attempt at ignoring the festering power within the contained room. Albus usually kept his attire more common. Dark or light greys --- nothing of worth that would make him stand out in a crowd. However, Minerva had insisted he make more of an effort tonight. With various important Muggles and wizards alike being present, Albus needed to look like he belonged and his friend made certain to bring out the best in him.
His suit was the latest in fashion; a deep blue suit with thin, grey pinstripes. It complimented the cloak hanging over his shoulder. A fedora hid wavy hair for most of the night, but in an effort not to be rude, he ditched it halfway through his social endeavors with Travers. The suit complimented sparkling blue eyes although these days the sparkle had dimmed quite a bit. It was the illness of course, but those who didn't know him best had hardly noticed. To them, he was still the great Albus Dumbledore, potential victor in the fight against Gellert. They had no idea of the obstacles in his path and he hadn't the energy to try and explain them either.
"You've been here all night Gellert," he answered coolly. "I am certain you are well aware of what has been said of me. But just to indulge you, no. I do not think anyone else has described me as 'ravishing'. Unless they were thinking it but I wouldn't know. I wasn't paying much attention."
Again, another eye roll. This time he nearly turned to face him, but out of fear of what his expression might reveal, he stayed the course. Best to not look at him until absolutely necessary. "I think you know the answer to that as well. If you get caught, you are on your own. I will neither help them or you. I will let fate decide what happens minus my interference." Because not only did he lack the strength to fight him, he just didn't have the motivation to help Travers either. At least not tonight. Tonight, he was going to be petty. He believed he had earned the right considering what he was forced to endure earlier.
Albus' mind drifted back at Gellert's words, taking the explanation as is. Perhaps he was being sincere. Albus knew deep down that he had no reason to suspect otherwise. There was that and how ELSE was he to get Albus' attention? The room below was crawling with powerful wizards. Calling to him in that manner had been the only way to do so discreetly. Not that Albus was condoning the act but… his explanation was fair. He simply could not argue the point.
"Fair enough."
And he had fixed his mouth to inquire about tonight; to find out just what other reason Gellert had for being here. Surely he didn't come all this way JUST to fraternize with the enemy, especially after their last few encounters. So why was he here? Who was the target? So many questions he knew Gellert would only vaguely answer yet he had planned on asking anyway. It was better than being trapped in a constant state of push and pull between his emotions. That WAS the plan until…
"Is there a way I can make it up to you?"
His brain short circuited briefly as he released a shaky breath. What? No. Of course not. What could his 'ex' husband possibly do to make it up to him? Leave? Leaving would be good. If he left then the troth would stop pulsing and Albus could slip away back to the sanctuary that was Hogwarts. He could hide out and curse himself in private for not having the guts to draw his wand now or any of the times before. He could be free of all this torment. Just… he need only say the words...
But he found himself shaking his head furiously. "I'm fine," Albus managed. "I'm… it's fine. You're forgiven. For that at least." He swallowed, ignoring how tightly the troth coiled around his arm. Feeling him so close again nearly made him jump out of his skin, but he held firm albeit barely. "Why are you really here?" he managed. "I know you didn't come all this way just to corner me about my state of dress. Surely a man of your status has way more important things to do. Like plan a assassination? Or gather intel on other enemies? Which is it? Or are you finally ready to eliminate me?"
Good. Nice. Change the subject matter. Because he wasn't sure he could handle much more of this stifling tension --- not with this growing headache and the other pains he was hiding well enough tonight.
Gellert had been expecting a vicious snarl back at him, for daring to come so close to him uninvited. It was a delightful surprise to hear the hint of concern in Albus’ voice as he pointed out that he couldn’t fight all of the Ministries workers downstairs. He wouldn’t ruin the moment by pointing out his hypocrisy since he was helping those same workers in trying to take him down. Perhaps there was still hope somewhere that Albus could come to their side, but he wasn’t going to push that here tonight. It would only make Albus close up and run away again and he wanted to take advantage of what appeared to be a brief reprieve in their animosity. Perhaps it was the troth that was changing the tide between them, working it’s magic to draw the two together again. “Yes, ravishing.” Gellert confirmed, not pulling back just yet. It had been a long time since they’d been this close to one another. A simple tilt of his head and he could press kisses along the exposed skin along Albus’ collar. He could easily run a hand along his back, ending up at his hip. It would be easy to tug him back so Albus was pressed against him. Would he allow him such intimacy tonight? His husband was always snapping and snarling at him for so much as daring to appear before him. But he hadn’t missed the shiver that went through Albus’ body as he drew closer, noting the way he fisted his palms as if trying to keep a hold on his control. “Have the other guests not told you so already?” He could have only imagined how frightfully dull their conversations would have been, when they should have been genuflecting before a wizard as great as Albus Dumbledore.
“You sound worried about me getting caught.” It wasn’t a question, for there could be no mistaking Albus’ tone. “Would you help me make a quick getaway if they were to see through the spell?” He teased him lightly, knowing that Albus was more likely to help them capture him. Things were so complicated between them. What had once appeared black and white had faded into countless shades of grey. Gellert couldn’t help but wonder if Albus was more hopeful of his capture so the pressure was off him from performing like a trained Demguise. He had wanted to make the Ministries back away from Albus, especially Travers, but Albus had long told him to keep out of it and so, he had abided by that.
He wasn’t concerned about being captured tonight. No one had picked up on the spell he had cast and besides, he wasn’t here alone. It was too risky for him to attend such an event without back up and he wasn’t here only to see Albus. That was simply a wonderful benefit for his efforts here this evening. He couldn’t say that he didn’t enjoy seeing him, even if their meetings always ended poorly. Perhaps this one would end better.
Was it the troth that was having an effect on Albus’ mood? He couldn’t help but wonder if it was still affecting his body and mind. He had been worried about him but Albus had left no room for argument when he had told Gellert not to return after their last meeting. But he couldn’t ignore just how open Albus’ mind had been to him tonight. Even when they had been closer all those years ago, his mind had been closed off to anyone that he didn’t want. Albus had always had powerful occlumency skills that rivalled his own.  Had his mind just been open to him or could anyone have gotten inside? As much as he loathed the ones downstairs, there were some powerful witches and wizards amongst them.
Was he still trying to break the troth? Of course he was, which was only doing harm to himself. There was no magic, no potion, no curse that could shatter what they’d made. They’d been children but powerful ones and their research skills had known no bounds even back then. They’d been so painstakingly careful when casting the blood magic and it could not be undone. Gellert had no interest in destroying their bond but he knew Albus could not be dissuaded in his attempts.
Had he brought it here this evening? A bold move but then he likely wouldn’t have left it anywhere else. It wasn’t around his neck so he could only assume it was wrapped around his wrist as it had been during their last meeting. Could Albus feel it pulsating against his skin? Their joined blood drops, dancing inside at the two of them being reunited? Did he enjoy it or loathe the sensation? He couldn’t bring himself to ask, just yet at least.
“I did not mean to cause offence with my invitation. I was certainly not summoning you like a pet. I was merely desiring your company this evening.” Gellert had wanted to speak with him and had been in no mood to do so downstairs. He hadn’t wanted to wear a glamour with Albus, and he had wanted this meeting to be private. There were too many eyes and ears downstairs and while they wouldn’t have been able to see through his spell, he didn’t want them to become suspicious. Besides, that would only increase their suspicion of Albus when they were already keeping close enough tabs upon him as it was. The cuffs might have come off but they both knew the Ministry wouldn’t think twice about slapping them on again.
“Is there a way I can make it up to you?” He leaned in closer, his hair brushing lightly against Albus’ skin. How he longed to press a kiss against his pulse point but he refrained, if only because it would send Albus running.

In any situation, any concept, idea or principle there is a certain duality, an opposition or contrast, from which the balance is born.
The same hand that offers deprives, any advantage is compensated by a weakness. I would say that nothing escapes it, one could then speak of justice, but it is quite obvious that some individuals have by chance or by grace been spared and others have known far too much misery and suffering for there to be balance.
As far as I am concerned, I was subjected to this rule through my parents. If my mother enveloped me with her care and love since my conception, my father always put his own happiness and well-being above all, as proven by the fact that he was quick enough to leave as soon as the opportunity arose.
To pretend that I always knew and felt this would be a lie, for as unlikely as it may seem now, I do remember a time when I could not deny the sincerity of this paternal bond that is now woven of hypocrisy and as fragile as a hair.
My father is the wound, the hammer, the insecurity, the holes and cracks. My father is tension and anger, but at the same time as passive and absent as a shadow or a distant mirage. My father is nostalgia and melancholy. A reminder of what could have been, but is not. My father is regret and pain, a thorn under a finger nail. He is not there, but never goes away.
On the other hand, my mother is the balm, the refuge. She is comfort, ease and consolation. She is the compensation for an unworthy father.

From CNN: UB40 founding member Astro dies following short illness
UB40 founding member Astro dies following short illness
British vocalist and founding member of UB40 Terence Wilson, better known by his stage name Astro, has died after a short illness, his current band confirmed.
"We are absolutely devastated and completely heartbroken to have to tell you that our beloved Astro has today passed away after a very short illness," a statement on Ali Campbell and Astro's Twitter account said on Saturday. "The world will never be the same without him."
Wilson was part of British reggae band UB40 for more than 30 years, before leaving the band to join breakaway group UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro in 2013.
UB40 formed in Birmingham in the late 1970s, and over the next three decades found success with hits including "Red Red Wine" and "(I Can't Help) Falling In Love."
The band dealt with social and political issues head-on in their songs, giving voice to working class dissatisfaction with the status quo of the time.
The current iteration of UB40 also paid tribute to the musician, writing on Saturday: "We have heard tonight, the sad news that ex-member of UB40, Terence Wilson, better known as Astro, has passed away after a short illness. Our sincere condolences to his family."
Another of the band's founding members, Brian Travers, died of cancer in August at the age of 62.
