Okay if there's one major criticism I have of ZZZ is that they keep putting random, unrelated, long-ass, tutorial-like, interlude quests in the middle of their main quest. The main quest is so interesting, I wanna know what's up with the strong box and that weird ethereal. I do not care about these random quests. I get that half of these are the game's way of introducing new systems (hollow zero as end game mode, the video archive system, etc), but couldn't they have found a better way of introducing these things without it affecting the main story?

Hello!! I've followed you on twitter for a while for your pokemon stuff, but stayed for your cute ocs and art style! I really adore your comics, and I was wondering if it's okay to share some tips or tutorials on how you make them (panels/expression/dialogue)? Or maybe just your general process!! I also want to improve on drawing comics and you have been a big inspiration šŸ’•
AAAA THANK U SO MUCH!!! šŸ˜šŸ’–šŸ’–šŸ’– IM JUS GONNA PUT SOME TIPS CUZ DOING A WHOLE TUTORIAL WOULD TAKE TOO MUCH TIME I THINK,,,these are just newbie tips cuz i dont rly know what im doing so far either šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜
- i always do the script for a comic first!!! and i usually wait a while between doing the script and actually drawing it since i usually end up changing/thinking up new ideas after a few days!!
- ive read that a good way to break panels isĀ ā€œone panel per emotionā€!! so dont try to fit like 3 different emotions into one panel!! (BUT ive seen official mangas like GSNK bend that rule and they end up putting normal tone at the beginning of one panel and ending it with an angry tone without the characters face changing!! that also can work!!)
- i just put one tone over the whole page and set it to overlay. my stupid ass is too tired to give each hair/article of clothing a different tone (unless you wanna make ur character stand out a bit more, like all my characters right now are just gonna have normal toned hair but i wanna give taffy sandpaper toned hair)
- i try not to break up my script into pages, but instead i open a canvas, and make boxes according to how i picture it in my head!! before i used to pre-break the script into pages just to find out the pacing was weird/off and found its better to go back and forth between your script and your comic page so you can make boxes as you go if that makes sense????
- like sometimes you might wanna add an extra pause panel because one wasnt enough, or something like that, its better to just add it instead of having to go back and re-seperate your whole script again
- Clip studio has a lot of manga panel/page resources but i am too lazy to figure it all out so i just use the grid and put boxes how i want using the grid as a guide!!
- gotta decide which colors classify into which monochrome color šŸ‘šŸ‘ mine is a little funky cuz obviously pastel pink is lighter than the orange of limes hair, yet limes hair is white in my comic and the pastel pink is a light gray..,,.,,just gotta work with your colors to make sure theres not too many similar grays right next to each other or else it gets confusing/hard to see šŸ˜
- BIG TIP: if a panel is ugly, just accept it. dont spend 5+ hours trying to make it absolutely perfect cuz lemme tell you, you can draw a whole ass mona lisa of a panel and 90% of people will spend 2 seconds on it reading the dialouge and will just move on and forget about it cuz theyre trying to read the story. no one will notice or care it looks a little off (unless its one of those PAGE LONG panels AND/OR the pic is the main focus of the panel then yknow,,,,obviously u gotta make it nice. but if its justĀ ā€œi need a picture for this dialouge panelā€ dont worry too much. it ees what it ees.)
- figure out what process works best for you!! whether itsĀ ā€œi sketch all my pages, then line all my pages, then color all my pages, etcā€ orĀ ā€œi do one whole page at a time and dont move on until its fully colored and texted upā€ orĀ ā€œi skip around depending on what panels i want to draw moreā€ (me)!!!Ā
- its a learning process!! for me too!!! im sure in a month or a year youā€™ll know a lot more about comic making if you make more comics!!! first page is gonna look bad anyway. just gotta power through pages like a steamboat and not look back at them and hopefully youā€™ll eventually get to a point where you can read your own comics without cringing (im not there yet shdhdjdjd)
- for me, making comics is just a continuous process ofĀ ā€œthis panel is uglyā€ andĀ ā€œi hope im conveying the right emotionā€ andĀ ā€œi hope the read understands this partā€, and the whole time youre doing it just repeatingĀ ā€œits fine, its fine, its fine,ā€ over and over again until your comic is finished
- EDIT: ONE MORE!!!!!! you only need a minimum of one background panel per page just to remind the reader of the environment!!!! no need to have background on every panel!!! have some pattern/plain backgrounds too!!!

Hi Ellie!! I hope u dont mind this ask ā¤Do u have any advice on how to do stuff on your checklist and not get overwhelmed? I can hardly do one thing out of my to do list and then i get severely depressed for not being able to do anything. i dont think i can function like a human being sometimes. anyway youre so cool ellie!!! i admire you loads!!! - help asked from one adhd struggling teen
HI anon ! Iā€™m sorry for not answering sooner i had a beautiful answer ready and then Tumblr just ate it T_T anyway i donā€™t mind at all i think itā€™s awesome that youā€™re asking me ! this is honestly still something Iā€™ve struggled a lot with. here are a few things that helped me (keep in mind iā€™m not a professional and this is only my personal, limited point of view) :
- ofc the first thing is to get as much help as you can, there are lots of people out there who can help. Generally talk to people around you about your problems ; often they want to help and just donā€™t know how : i know the tendency to feel ashamed and keep it in but thatā€™s not good. Some people might be a bit ignorant so maybe keep a few ressources on hand you can send to people to educate them if thatā€™s an issue ; and educate yourself so you feel more secure and legitimate in your opinions.Ā
- one thing thatā€™s helped me lots is to go on #ADHDtwitter and #Neurodiversesquad because a lot of people on there are actual adults who are sharing both their struggles but also tips on how to actually manage the symptoms and have full and happy, if messy, lives. Itā€™s very inspiring. It helped me a lot to feel understood, less alone and gave me a ton of ideas. Some accounts to start with : @ danidonovan - @ blkgrllostkeys @ ADHD_Alien (her comics are so cute) @ dustyexner plus lots of others
- regarding having trouble doing things, this is definitely a Big Damn Problem for adhd folks. the concept of the emotional Wall of Awful really helped me with this, you can find more about it in this Youtube video by the awesome How To ADHD channel (all her videos are so helpful !! have a look!) basically the idea is that we accumulate emotions linked to certain tasks based on unhappy past emotions that make it a lot harder for us to do things and that building it down takes a lot of time and effort but there are ways to work with/around that. learning to process, connect to and be more mindful of our emotions is a huge task, but itā€™s often a central one.Ā
- donā€™t try too hard to be neurotypical akaĀ ā€˜normalā€™. find the solutions that work for YOU. If theyā€™re a bit weird ? Whatever. The point is that it works. You will probably end up having weird routines that make no sense to others but it doesnā€™t matter as long as it helps you. Be creative and donā€™t be afraid to think outside the box. Iā€™ll give you an example :Ā  one of the reasons i hate going to bed early is because late at night is when i feel the most free of outside obligations and therefore i donā€™t want to give that up. So instead what iā€™ve been trying to do from time to time is aĀ ā€˜clown hourā€™ where i basically give myself permission to do whatever the fuck i want (within reason lmao) but in an active way ; basically indulge my rebellious inner 8 yr old. Last time I ended up watching martial arts videos on youtube and practicing kickboxing kicks on the Mulan soundtrack and then put on funeral music and improvised my own eulogy by thinking about what i would like people to say about me after my death. Lmao that sounds completely wack when explained to other people but the point is - stuff like that really helped me reconnect to the idea that my time is mine to do with as i please, not just late at night. Anyway my point is : make it fun, make it a game, try things, experiment. Our brains crave novelty and if they donā€™t have it and feel burdened by shame, pressure and expectations of course they get depressed and stuck. Give your brain the fuel it needs to work.Ā
- just accept that sometimes youā€™re going to be a mess. itā€™s okay. you can be a bit of a mess and also live a fully, happy, joyous life. our society puts so much pressure on us to have this Perfect Instagram Life where everything is polished to unrealistic standards and gives us the idea that your morals are linked to productivity and if you are not constantly striving to be a Model Consumer Pretty Picture you are a Bad Person and a slob/lazy/unworthy/etc and all of that is...toxic garbage of the highest order that everyone should unlearn but especially us. related to that i would be careful with use of social media, tailor it to only give you content that makes you feel good/intellectually engaged/creative because itā€™s so easy for us to go into bad comparative spirals.
- tied to that be careful of your own perfectionist drives. itā€™s veeeeery common for adhd people to want to overcompensate their perceived shortcomings by wanting to be perfect. aka you havenā€™t done anything in weeks and all of a sudden you have this insane to do list where you expect yourself to turn your entire life around in a week. well, not going to happen. iā€™ve found it so important to limit myself. for instance what i do now is i forbid myself to put more than 5 items on any todo list. once iā€™ve cleared items i can add more, but not before. itā€™s a lot less scary that way. also prioritizing is very important so you donā€™t get bogged down in details.
- try to be mindful of your own energy. a big tendency of adhd people is to overpromise and underdeliver because we are enthusiastic and we want to please people but we are bad at estimating time/energy it will need. learn more about your own boundaries, what things are hard for you to do (for me, itā€™s socializing in groups) and what gives you energy (for me itā€™s writing, reading and walking in the woods) and try to balance that. learn to say no, itā€™s tough but necessary. So that you have enough left for the tasks you need to do.Ā
- create an environment that is benevolent and helpful for you in which to work/do things and that generates positive emotions. Get yourself a cute notebook. Put on happy music. Donā€™t forget to feed yourself. Donā€™t give into the urge of punishing yourself. You deserve happy good things - not overindulgence as escape - but our brains thrive on short term rewards. Bundle the unpleasant tasks with more stimulating stuff (for instance i always listen to podcasts while cleaning/grocery shopping etc). Create pleasant little routines for yourself (for instance one of the first things i try to do in the morning is do a little drawing of my emotions, it makes me happy, then i have tea and i plan my day.). Put on alarms constantly so you donā€™t lose track of time, but with a cool song. Find yourself cheerleaders who can encourage you in a positive way. Stuff like the pomodoro technique, timing yourself while doing a task, etc, can really help. Or telling yourself you will do a thing for ten minutes and stop when itā€™s unbearable, etc. Prioritize joy, pride, affection, desire to help, altruism, love, curiosity, interest and passion as motivators, instead of anxiety, guilt and shame.Ā
- find ways to build self esteem and confidence in your own skills. itā€™s often a lack of that that can block you from doing what you need to because you might be afraid of screwing it up. what I did for a while, for instance, is to keep a record of the stuff i did everyday and then extrapolated the skills i displayed from that. another thing you can do is make a list of simple skills you want to learn and find ways to do that, like youtube tutorials, etc. especially when itā€™s practical stuff and quick to learn, it can really feel so good, and make you more familiar with a sensation of success (and if you fail it can be a fun experiment gone wrong, and self discovery, you donā€™t have to be good at everything.)
- find ways to challenge yourself. depression happens for adhd people when we let ourself stagnate, isolate ourselves because of shame, and get into this idea that we are subhuman and we donā€™t deserve good things. that is false. you deserve a happy life. and our brains crave novelty. find your passion and indulge in it, find the things that make your brain come alive (as long as theyā€™re healthy ofc). if youā€™re not sure what that is, just keep trying. you will find it. but resist the temptation to make your life smaller and smaller. you might mess up but thatā€™s okay. itā€™s human and it will make for interesting stories later. instead of trying too hard toĀ ā€˜fixā€™ yourself, focus on developping your positive sides. it will give you energy, self-respect and draw you forwards like a rocketship. we thrive on passion, not reprimand.Ā
- anyways : i know how tough it can be. depression is really something i struggle with, too. and doing things remains Hard. but my point is, you are not alone, and you are not broken. chances are you too, like most adhd people i know, are a fun, creative, compassionate person with a heart of gold and so much to give. our main enemy is most often the shame that comes with living in a world that is not adapted to us. but the truth is we are just playing the game of life on a much harder setting than a lot of people, and we donā€™t even have the manual. of course itā€™s going to create struggle ! so i think the best thing to do for yourself is cultivate a sense of compassion towards yourself, self acceptance, and humor.Ā
- as a teen you probably have a limited margin of autonomy to make your lifestyle fit your needs but - there is so much potential for it to get better ! as you grow in self knowledge and ability to make your own choices, you will find the right solutions and your life will get so much better. i have heard so many stories like this. since i got diagnosed, too, my life got a lot better. i wonā€™t lie, itā€™s a lifelong process. but there is so much possible. give yourself time. you are so young, and you are definitely a human being. being human is struggling with being flawed and vulnerable and imperfect. i know the world can be shit sometimes, you probably got some negative messages - especially from your own brain bc depression definitely lies to you ! but donā€™t let yourself be guided by ignorance and fear. you deserve better. i bet youā€™re also super cool. the happier you are, the better off the world will be. so invest in yourself. educate yourself, develop your self knowledge, be kind to yourself, and keep making little steps. youā€™ll get there. <3

hi all !! this is an introduction to my freshest muse and newest baby yeo eunchan otherwise and more commonly known asĀ ā€˜chanā€™, heā€™s a sweetheart but of course because its me and i canā€™t resist giving my muses slight torture, heā€™s a tormented sweetheart. if you look at his pinterest here youā€™ll get an idea of his style better since thatā€™s pretty essential to him as a muse in this case hshd. below the cut you can find out a bit more about him and if you hit the like, iā€™ll be sure to throw him at you for plots !! lets get into it:Ā
BACKSTORY:Ā
chanā€™s childhood wasnā€™t particularly dark or strained. he is by far the least tragic out of all my muses. but for me, thatā€™s still pretty tragic by mosts standards. growing up he always had a very supportive father in regard to his homosexuality and androgynous qualities. he grew up in a happy home and despite not being rich he was very fortunate to have rich opportunities come his way. to be fair heā€™s pretty easily pleased but most of his experiences thus far have been plentiful
perhaps that is why his luck has to run out somewhere down the line, in the worst way it possibly could. his mother passed when he was young due to cancer. it was a grave and difficult time for his father as well as the rest of the family. his father crumbled eventually, in the hospital with health issues now that are so severe heā€™s due to pass any day and is basically in a vegetative state already. chan was left to raise his five year old sister nari and take on the responsibility.Ā
for this reason, he could be considered a struggling single father as heā€™s pushing his own dreams and goals aside to accomodate for nari and make sure she has the best upbringing which is comfortable for her, where she can see chan as a father figure as well as an older brother now, who can be relied upon and responsible. balancing the line and the roles between brother and father isnā€™t always easy though when the lines are constantly blurred. he has sacrificed most of himself and his youth to keep nari happy and healthy and mostly untouched by the death of their parents.Ā
this hasnā€™t been easy though, itā€™s left chan isolated and with no one to speak to but the five year old girl a lot of his feelings get locked in a box and left unexplored, he cannot have a moment of hesitation or weakness because then that will affect nari. his mourning process and grieving has been put on a backline, and he only really allows himself to break down in quiet moments without nari. such as when walking through the forest to be with nature, visiting their graves or on the edge of his bed having a good cry when nari is fast asleep due to the feeling of living in the empty space where his parents used to fill it all up.Ā
PERSONALITY:Ā
chan is a makeup artist, he does it professionally for models and artists all throughout the industry but he also does it for fun, becoming pretty popular as a person who gives tutorials on youtube and instagram as anĀ ā€˜influencerā€™ but he really hates that label and prefers to simply think of himself as an artist. he also does the bit of fashion blogging and photography on the side.Ā
he considers himself an adventurer and for that reason he also travels a lot, usually while he is there heā€™ll study as he does photography for a course as well as a part time student and his main interest is in ancient architecture and art. most of the time heā€™ll roadtrip in his styled up vintage pick up but occasionally its flights to more beachy areaā€™s, his two favorite places are greece and italy and he spends most of his time in those places if he can.
chan has a very vintage sense of style and he enjoys doing most things the traditional and old school way. although he does add a modern mindset to a lot of it. aesthetically style wise envision chan as fingers full of plenty of rings, ankle bracelets and arm cuffs with loose puffy sleeved shirts and ripped up mom jeans or high waisted ones. he cycles mostly everywhere on his vintage style bike.Ā
very much a gentle soul, little bit of a nerd and activist in the sense he wants to save the earth. he can be really intense about learning about nature and how to preserve it. he has always felt the most in touch with the natural world compared to the hum and chaos of the modern world and city life. heā€™s no saint of course and heā€™s still a sucker for coffee but other than that he likes to think he does his best.Ā
paints and draws very amazingly likewise, he prefers to draw flowers and people the most but heā€™ll work with whatever heā€™s got on hand. usually you can only catch him whipping out a sketchbook if heā€™s feeling stressed or overwhelmed as a form of escapism and quiet time.Ā
he is a little bit of a quixotic type so sue him, like one of the ā€˜have you ever fallen in loveā€™ 'five times a dayā€™ types but itā€™s not obsessive, itā€™s more of an admiration he considers all people beautiful and worthy of love in their own way and would state most of them are art to him. you could be the worst person and heā€™d be all ā€™ you dont have all the factsā€™ 'which are?ā€™ 'i love themā€™.
although he doesnā€™t identify as genderfluid, he has a very genderfluid and androgynous sense of fashion and often wears clothing and makeup typically labelled as being more feminine. he likes a soft and classy look that usually consists of a good lip tint or ultra glossy lip and a natural but glittery smokey eye look. think kinda like the instagram influencer ivanbaaaaah for reference.Ā
MISC:Ā
growing up chan struggled with religion a lot, he and his family are very religious but his sexuality caused some issues. his father had always been supportive but his mother was a different story, unfortunately his memories with her arenā€™t the fondest. though he has a very dark history with religion, he loves to be in churches that are empty or abandoned for moments of reflection. often he wonders if he doesnā€™t even have god as the one consistent and reliable thing in his life, then what the hell does he have. he feels even now sometimes that heā€™s letting god and his mother down for the way he is but there is less shame now than what he suffered when younger.Ā
everything in his life basically revolves around nari, she goes most places with him and any task heā€™ll find a way to make fun for her, he doesnā€™t spoil her but he also doesnā€™t ever leave her to go without even if that is at his expense to do so. they love to bake together and he does that pretty often.Ā
has a part time job as a barista on night shifts and also in a patisserie. he works from home on his influencer content again to accommodate for nari and he also takes his course in photography and media online to best suit nari so he doesnā€™t have to leave her with a babysitter too often as he believes thatā€™s no childhood and him just being lazy in his duty towards her as her parental figure at this pivotal time in her life.Ā
heā€™s putting off most of his dreams and aspirations right now for until nari is older, he couldā€™ve been much more famous as an influencer but he chose not to be and put those opportunities to broaden his career on hold for a while because having a famous sibling in her life wasnā€™t the kind of overwhelming attention and pressure nari needed to be surrounded with right now.Ā
he honestly just wants to make sure nari grows up feeling safe, comfortable and happy as well as confident in herself and chan. sheā€™s his primary responsibility and he considers himself her closest bet to a father now so he wants her to feel she has that bond with him as well as the bond of him being her brother.Ā
PLOT BUNNIES:Ā
a babysitter plot would be great, someone who he can rely on and uses often to leave nari with when he has no other choice and particularly on nights when he has to work. ideally it would be someone nari felt very close to and idolized so he knew they had an amazing relationship and sheā€™d be happy and relaxed when he was gone. heā€™s very over protective of her so heā€™d also have to feel pretty close to the person. it could go any way really, it could be a pining thing, a best friend thing, whatever honestly.Ā
this boy definitely needs a confidant so throw that at me any day.Ā
friends who can help him reconnect with religion and spirituality in different ways so he knows thereā€™s always a way for him to feel tied to god somehow and a god who loves him and best suits his needs somewhere even if it isnā€™t necessarily in the religion he grew up with.Ā
work buddies at the cafe he works in or patisserie would be amazing too.Ā
maybe a tutor/study buddy kinda person he met online through doing his course of media and photography to make sure he was making up for the classes he was missing out on by not being able to attend day lectures in college.Ā
just people with the similar hobby of photography would also be awesome or models even that he can do a couple of freelance jobs for on the side when they need him.Ā
muses for him to draw theyā€™d be very special people indeed bc chan will rarely whip his sketchbook out in front of anyone let alone ask to draw them.Ā
more single parent muses would also be awesome eventually or older siblings who kind of take on that role half the time so have some idea of what its like who he could meet through taking nari to things like nursery, etc.Ā
neighbor bc who doesnā€™t love a good single dad and his neighbor plotĀ Ā whoā€™s all like woah that guy is super young and he has a kid but im also sure thereā€™s no woman on the scene and wow theyā€™re noisy and its kinda infuriating but its also cute as hell cause heā€™s a hella good dad and in the mornings i can hear them baking and doing food fights or playing together and i often see them messing about coming back from grocery shopping etc and actually its kinda touching??Ā
gay pals cause we love gay pals as well as ur everyday pals we love a platonic bond between fellow gays.Ā
love interests of any kind rlly, pining situations, crushing, flings, exā€™s ( theyā€™d have had to have ended on good terms tho bc chan just canā€™t hate anyone ), first times e.g. sexually, boyfriend, kiss u get the ideaĀ

Since I'm curious, what caused you to become very possessive of your gifs? Not out of rudeness but curious, since no matter what you do a lot of them show up in the gif function on Tumblr which automatically credits you at the bottom of the gif.
Hey. Tbh, at first I didnā€™t wanna bother with yet another anon but since I see no ill intent behind this, I decided to go and answer it. Unfortunately, half-way through I realised my reply is turning into incredibly long semi-bitter rant and expands well beyond calling out just one person in Psychonauts fandom (and yes, this is related to Psychonauts fandom ā€“ you do know that these anons are not really that anonymous, right?) soā€¦ buckle up! All that beneath ā€œread moreā€.
Iā€™ve been on this hellsite for likeā€¦7-8 years? Maybe more? Canā€™t really tell cause I moved blogs and my old blog now consists of only 4 posts Iā€™ve made close to leaving so I honestly have no idea how much time Iā€™ve spend here before moving. Anyway, during those few years Iā€™ve spent on my first blog Iā€™ve met a lot of creative gifmakers who enjoyed sharing their love for fandoms they were in. Iā€™d like to point out that this was waaaaay before tumblr created that insert-gif option so, back in the day, the only way to add gifs to your post was to: 1. make them yourself 2. take them from someone else. And a lot of people were taking them from someone else which resulted in many gifmakers giving up on making gifs and leaving fandoms and/or even leaving tumblr ā€“ and Iā€™ve had many of my friends give up on what they love and have their games/shows/movies/whatnot ruined for them cause people would not stop stealing from them. And many of my friends eventually left tumblr cause they couldnā€™t deal with it anymore.
Tumblr adding insert-gif option, in my opinion, honestly, just made it worse for gifmakers. Cause now people had the opportunity to use gifs for their posts, with or without creatorsā€™ permission/knowledge, but it was alrightĀ and it was perfectly fine cause creators were credited. Thereā€™s their name at the bottom. Itā€™s alright. Likeā€¦ it doesnā€™t matter if theyā€™re actually okay with people using something theyā€™ve put hours into making or if theyā€™re not ā€“ tumblr gives them credit so they SHOULD be okay with it. Simple as that.
Well, weā€™re all different and some people are not okay with that. Iā€™m not okay with that. It took me weeks to figure out how to use photoshop correctly. Took me countless hours of looking through different tutorials and basically trial-and-error-ing my way through the process. Whenever I make gifs, it takes me hours to record videos and then hours trying to achieve that 3mb limit on gifs (thank lord these days weā€™re beyond 1mb limit). After all that effort I put into creating gifs for games that I love and enjoy, someone is going to make 2 clicks and have that same gif added to their post, without even asking. So how is that okay?
Back to your question. Yes, ā€œno matter what you do a lot of them show up in the gif function on Tumblrā€, that is true and that is something I was aware of when I saw you-know-who announcing they would be starting 30 days Psychonauts challenge. So, hating to see my gifs used against my will, and not wanting to start any unnecessary drama and threaten people in advance with reporting them if they do use them, Iā€™ve made my blog as private as I could. It was only accessible through the dashboard, it was not showing in ANY search engines inside and outside tumblr, and my gifs were impossible to find through insert-gif function ā€“ Iā€™ve made sure. I did all that cause I justĀ knew that during those 30 days, someone would use my gifs and I would get mad and I desperately wanted to avoid that (hence going extreme). And you know what happened? You know what creator of this challenge (who prevously already reposted my gifs) did? *drums*Ā They used my shit anyway. :3 They just uploaded it from their computer, where theyā€™ve saved it earlier.
And likeā€¦ a lot of people see pretty pic and decide to save it - I mean, we all do that. Heck, even I have a folder full of shit I saw online and liked it ā€“ but iā€™m not uploading it online cause I havenā€™t made it. Itā€™s not mine to share.
But some people are not like that.
Some people see fanart of something they like and they want to share their opinion on it ā€“ and instead of making their own post, maybe drawing the fanart themselves, they decide to use someone elseā€™s art for their post. Do they know who made it? Do they have creatorā€™s permission to share it? If the answer is NO, then they should be a decent human being and not do that to creators. Oh, they shared it anyway but now people in fandom are calling them out BUT this actually happened on accident? They know who the creator is but, somehow, they accidentally forgot to credit them? OK, well, itā€™s possible, shit happens, but they better make sure it doesnā€™t happen again.
Then sometime later these same people decide they want to make a post appreciating their fav character and they want to include pics cause duh, you canā€™t have character appreciation post without pics, right? Now they have several options: they can get their own screenshots, make their own gifs, maybe draw somethingā€¦ or they can just take someone elseā€™s creation. Do they know who made it? Well thereā€™s my fuckin name on it, and since theyā€™ve stretched it from 245 to 500px, itā€™s really hard to miss, plus itā€™s not like there are that many people making Psychonauts gifs. Do they have permission to share it? Hmmm, nope, didnā€™t ask me. Is this alsoĀ an accident? Could be. I mean, Iā€™ve seen stranger things happen, so accidentally forgetting to credit content creators twiceā€¦ kinda suspicious but still possible. Who am I to say?
Now if these people then decide to make a post appreciating their fav ship and they want to add a cute pic of the loving couple ā€“ yup, you guessed it! They can either create something or take something. Again: they know who did? They asked for permission? Got the permission? No?!?! But they posted it anyway?!?! :o Could it really be, that after being called out publicly, after being told that reposting is bad (something thatā€™s very easy to understand), after even having tumblr staff intervene and remove stolen shit from their blog, after all that - could it really still be an accident?
Nah, man.
They just donā€™t give a shit.
Cause if they did, theyā€™d stop with that crap first time they were called out.
(and if you think Psychonauts fandom is their only fandom and that theyā€™re not doing this crap in other fandoms too - hoooo, boy, do I have some bad news for you! Do you know how many stolen and butchered HP fanart is on their blog? Hobbit stuff? They seem to be one of the most accident-prone users on tumblr. And honestly - itā€™s a real miracle their blogā€™s not been terminated.)
Back to what I was talking about - Iā€™m not okay with people using my gifs and Iā€™ve made it very clear. I literally do not give a shitĀ if Iā€™m credited or not, Iā€™ve made it very clear that I donā€™t want myĀ gifs used without my permission. If you like them and want them on your blog, thereā€™s a fuckin reblog button. Itā€™s sole purpose is to allow you to share other peopleā€™s creations. Or shitposts, cause lord knows we all love those.
So thatā€™s why when someone spends hours going through my Psychonauts tag and goes as far as to send me ā€œI love your gifsā€ anonymous message, but the very next day makes stim moodboard post including one of my gifs, now cut and resized to fit 3x3 format theyā€™re going with, I get mad. And thatā€™s why when someone uses one of my gifs to promote their RP blog, butcheringĀ it to fit their aesthetics, and later when confronted going as far as blaming their good friend on it cause god! theyā€™ve had no idea it wasnā€™t theirs, I get mad. (makes you wonder though: if they friend has such skills, why not making them gifs themselves?)
Likeā€¦. Iā€™ve had my gifs stolen plenty of times. Iā€™ve had them stolen for roleplaying, for headers, for imagines, just for notesā€¦ Iā€™ve had them stolen by people claiming to run official fan sites (thatā€™s a real wild story but I wonā€™t get into that now)ā€¦ Iā€™ve seen them on pinterest, weheartit, FB, all those random gif sitesā€¦ and Iā€™ve seen EVERY. POSSIBLE. EXCUSE. ranging from: ā€œwell i found it on google so why should i credit youā€ ā€œlol dunno who made this but its pretty so im posting itā€ ā€œive had it on my computer for years so i donā€™t remember where i got it fromā€ ā€œi dont know how to make gifs so im using weheartit as a sourceā€ ā€œcredit to whoever made thisā€ (thatā€™s my fav) to ā€œits just a gif so who gives a shitā€ (itā€™s not ā€“ itā€™s hours of creatorā€™s time and lots of love that youā€™re now shitting on so thanks) and ā€œi have an /illness/ and getting notes makes me feel better so dont u dare blame me for stealingā€ (I donā€™t remember exact excuse but it was something along those lines and likeā€¦ how do you even respond to something that without looking like an asshole?).
And sometimes it really isĀ just an accident. Sometimes people really do forget to credit you and/or ask you for permission. And Iā€™ve had my fair share of those accidents. People in Psychonauts fandom have been using my gifs for various crap but, when approached, theyā€™ve removed it and apologised. And itā€™s something I really appreciate. (if they actually bother reading this and they recognise themselves: iā€™m really grateful and thank you for not being an ass)
But you know what I donā€™t appreciate? People making a callĀ out posts aboutĀ me, asking about my gifs when they know very well theyā€™re the main reasons why Iā€™m not making those gifs anymore, at the same time failing to address any of the issues I have with them and instead rather explaining to others what happened BUT explaining only the parts that make me look like a villain cause how I even dare be mad about them stealing? How I even dare call them out on it? That is so ridiculous and criminal of me, and itā€™s so so sooooo bad that they need to call me out. I deserve to be called out by the very same person whoā€™s been stealing my shit.
And their explanation isā€¦wellā€¦ itā€™sĀ something.
They were sympathetic and polite? When did this happen? Did I completely missed that part? Please someone fuckin enlighten me with such post/message where they expressed their sympathy and politeness and Iā€™ll apologise right this second.
I told them to ā€œliterally fuck offā€? Yeah, that did happen, I admit that. Did they bother explaining why I told them to fuck off in the first place? Did theyĀ say they were caught stealing from me and had tumblr stuff remove myĀ shit from their blog? Did they get into details of how they demandedĀ the proof of my so very wild and obviously false claims but then whenĀ I showed it, they just deleted that ā€œhow dare u call me outĀ cause I would never do such thingā€ post? No, they didnā€™t and geee, I really wonder why.
Instead, what did they choose to address? Out of all the things Iā€™ve said. Hm? What did they choose? Me telling them to fuck off. Me dropping the F-bomb on them, rudely rejecting their obvious kindness and politeness. Nothing else.
Back to what I was talking about before I got derailed again: no, Iā€™m not mad cause this person used my gifs without crediting me. I mean ā€“ I am, but thatā€™s not my main issue with them (and they know it). My main issue is that this is someone who will continuously lie and steal and still deny any of it, even when thereā€™s plenty of proof (and you can always count on me to show up with proof tbh), and then go as far as to publicly ask about my gifs and try to call me out. Like me getting mad that something Iā€™ve put hours of work into, and something Iā€™ve made cause I love the game and I want to share my love and appreciation for it, is now being shared against my will and my knowledge - like me getting mad over something like that is so unreasonable that they need to make an entire post about it while pretending they have absolutely no idea why Iā€™m even mad and why we have issues.
And I have every fucking right to be mad. 3 times is not an accident. 2 times to the same person is not an accident. They know it. But yeah, playing stupid is their defense so itā€™s not like I expected them to actually address their actions this time either.
And you know what? Just because I swear a lot doesnā€™t mean Iā€™m wrong. Doesnā€™t mean thereā€™s no solid ground for my claims. People on tumblr have always been and always will be stealing shit. Sometimes they will credit you, often they will not, and thatā€™s just how it is, doesnā€™t matter if youā€™re okay with it or not. But that doesnā€™t mean Iā€™m just gonna sit quiet and accept someoneā€™s shitty behaviour. Especially when itā€™s directed at me.
TLDR: giving credit =/= having permission
but my previous posts leading to this ask were not about that
you knew that already

Research for Specialist Subject
When thinking about what I should research, I thought about what would make me a better Animator. Well I know from my Advert that I can draw pretty characters. However, when I think of Cupti & Shaker; which I wanted to be smooth Rubber Hose fluid animation, I dont think it ticked all the boxes. As a first real crack at animating, I learnt a lot about software and the practicality of it ( the long time it takes). However when I look at it, it doesn't feel as professional as I would have liked. Since then I've pulled away from the Animate CC software quite a bit. I felt like it held back the possibilities for drawing and detail because of its limited brush features. I'm using Photoshop a lot more as I get a professional feeling and look from my work. Despite finding a style that feels good, Cupti & Shaker; which was heavily inspired by "Who Framed Rodger Rabbit", doesn't reach its level of fluid motion. So I decided to work on my actual understanding of the motion that is used in animation. I went to the library on campus and found a book titled "The Animators Survival Kit" which funnily enough, was written by the creator of "Who Framed Rodger Rabbit". From reading it he gives an intro into his early experience in the industry and his idolization of the man he worked with. Richard Williams, learnt much from, Grim Natwick (born Myron Nordveig). When William's first met him he was told by Natwick that "Animation, its all in the timing and the spacing". For me this is what I read and thought this is exactly what I need to know! I decided to read on in the book and it goes on to perfectly explain the animators "Timing Chart" and the main forms of drawings that they make while animating a scene which are (In order of importance), Key Frames, Extremes, Breakdowns and Inbetweens. (Williams,.2009) Obviously all the drawings are important but the idea of expressive animation, is the key poses. They are so important to get right because they are the story telling poses. So long as those frames explain the story and expression, the the playing of or the "acting" of the character comes in the extremes and breakdowns. These are things I was only vaugely informed on during the animating of "Cupti & Shaker". So apart from the frames. There is the timing. The time charts are usually made for other animators that are helping with the animation to understand what is wanted from the scene being drawn. Because the timing explains where each picture is as a frame in the scene. The timing comes hand in hand with the spacing however. The spacing is the distance of each drawing in a frame compared to eachother. This effects the speed and "fluidity" of the movement. If you have someone running, each frame they are drawn, they will be considerably further away from the last frame. However if he were to slow down, he would not suddenly be still in the next frame, there will have to be frames in between gradually getting closer together to "slow in" to the stop. This is one of the most used methods for realistic animation. Timing & Spacing is considered widely among the animation community, that it is a core principle to have. I specifically want to study this because I know it is something I have misunderstood in previous projects. With Cupti & Shaker I know specifically that I would animate, pose to pose, with a frame drawn evenly between the next. This means most movements are simply sliding at a constant rate. This can be considerably similar to the movement of digital animations. A problem with digital animations is howĀ ā€œperfectā€ a lot of the movement is. With computers being able to figure out how to time things, the specificity of the movement can make it unbelievable, reaching a kind ofĀ ā€œuncanny valleyā€, where its too real to be real. Similarly I mentioned something similar with the animation of the new The Lion King remake where the movement isĀ ā€œfloatyā€ which is a popular term used among animators to describe a movement that forgets weight. (The Lion Kind, 2019) Broadening the subject slightly, Timing and Spacing also relies heavily on other aspects of drawing. Being something I focused on recently; drawing. When it comes to animation, you need to think of what youā€™re drawing as a 3D object moving in space. That way, through the use of timing and spacing, your characters will also be consistent with their movements. The human brain is very good at subconsciously knowing if something is keeping its shape, however it is very difficult to then put this into our work. This is why some animators actually draw rough passes using the shapes of the characters before the details. What Iā€™ve read when it comes to this, there is no way to research this, its more to do with practicing, because it is a practical skill. The skill should be developed along side animating. One person who I have been following on his YouTube channel is Aaron Blaise, he is an ex animator/director for the Walt Disney Company who now creates tutorials and streams for aspiring animators like myself. Heā€™s been incredibly helpful with tips for animators who need to learn to draw thinking about shapes and perspectives. Heā€™s one of the reasons Iā€™ve taken to practicing drawing a lot more. (Aaron Blaise, 2012)Ā
My idea for the Specialist Subject is to create a series of designed characters and have some small animated movements as a practice of timing and spacing. These short animated characters will help to give me an understanding of moving characters in 3D space in a 2D format and also to use my new understanding of timing and spacing. This could be similar to the industry standard ofĀ ā€œRough Passesā€ used when producing animated films. These rough passes are animations that are incomplete but have the full movement planned and fleshed out above secondary motions like hair and clothing.
As an example of other creators using rough passes would be, Disney. They say testing is a crucial part of the production. As soon as a sequence was ready they would put it into the multi-plane camera and have it made into film. This way they could watch it over and over and see the movement. With new software it is possible to always test your animation, methods known such asĀ ā€œScrubbing throughā€, where you use a play head to drag trough the frames, you can quick export to view itĀ  as a video file ect. I find this helps me specifically when trying to visualize the characters in a 3D space on a 2D plane.
Of all the styles of animation Iā€™ve mainly held myself to theĀ ā€œpose-to-poseā€ method. This allows to keep characters more consistent and planed out. However, with this being a realistic and restrictive method, I have mind to try using theĀ ā€œstraight aheadā€ method which is very different. This is a form of animation where you draw a frame and then draw the next one after another. This allows for a lot of freedom and spontaneity. Most animators use this for character hair, fire or fight scenes where things are far more random. This could benefit me within animations as it provides visual interest and doesn't require anywhere as muchĀ  time because you donā€™t need to worry about the consistency.Ā Ā  If I were to use this style, I might want to use it as more of aĀ ā€œmain featureā€ than a characters hair or such. An idea that comes to mind is something like magic. This is represented in many animations and is usually a form of character expression. Something that springs to mind is the story ofĀ ā€œThe Sorcerers Apprenticeā€ in the Disney classic Fantasia. This could be a ā€œrealisticā€ pose to pose character, that uses straight ahead magic. (Fantasia,1940)Ā Ā
Animation as an Art form is comparatively young and compared to others. As I went into in my FMP last year, animation had a boom of popularity around 1920ā€²s however it really came into its own when animators developedĀ ā€œMethodsā€ that all aspiring animators would benefit from learning. These are a set of rules for animation. Iā€™ve spoken about the principles of animation however I havenā€™t mentioned that despite these beingĀ ā€œRulesā€ many animators that are experienced find that they are there to be broken. A lot of the character and story telling done in movement is made unique and eye catching when the rules are bent but not so far that is seems unbelievable. This is where originality and skills comes in most. Sometimes animating on twoā€™s works better than oneā€™s and this we still aren't sure why, probably because techniques for everything are still being discovered today. Theres no way to know exactly how best timing will work in scenes. So even when you use the principles you might find deviating from them works better. ( Thomas, F. Johnston, O, 1981)
However, there is one thing that animators have found that DO stick to certain rules, and these work across the board. The timing of a walk is very specific in animations because people in real life all tend to walk at the same pace. Our unconscious recognises this and holds animation to the same standard. most people walk on 12ā€²s. This means theres is 12 frames per step they take. Walks can be animated on 2ā€²s but runs are always animated on 1ā€²s. The more a position of a character changes the more time you might add to have more frames to reach there, or you would want more frames in a shorter time. Most companies animate on a standard of 2ā€²s however when running or theres a fast change of shape your would need to animate on 1ā€²s to compensate. This is why animations where made with music and it worked so well, because everything could be reduced to the beat of a characters walk.

Backlog week 6: return of the revenge of the backlog
Summer has returned and so has the backlog. So let's do this baby!
Niche: a Genetics Survival Game play time: 20 min
This game bored me. I'm sure that it gets more interesting as the game goes on, but it does not make a strong first impression. You start as one lonesome cat thing shortly after everyone you know and love is killed. So you set off to repopulate the species. This game aims to simulate real life gene science. That is cool and all, but it doesn't matter if your game play isn't interesting. And for the short time I played, it wasn't gripping me.Ā  The game has potential to be an interesting study on genetics and survival of the fittest, but players won't engage with your unique simulation if it isn't interesting or fun.Ā
Nightmare Reaper play time: 2 hours
Aw yeah here we go! This is one of those games that seek to keep the legacy of the old school first person shooters alive. You play as some crazy lady in a mental hospital, who goes into a dream world every night to battle the undead. The game is Rad! The combat is smooth and flows well, there is an interesting variety of weapons, and while I haven't gotten that far in my own play through, varied environments. This game is in early access, so it isnā€™t finished yet. But that doesn't mean it isn't worth picking up now. The game has enough content in it to be worth the asking price, and theyā€™ll add in the rest of the content once they are finished making the game. So you won't have the game slowly piecemealed to you over the course of years. This game is a must play if you like retro shooters like Doom and Blood. Before I end, I want to mention the upgrade tree. As you progress through the levels, you pick up mountains of gold and treasure, which you spend in your gameboy menu to purchase useful upgrades. And you don't just click a button and get the upgrade, you have to play a short platforming level to get it! I just find that little extra feature so charming.Ā
No Manā€™s Sky. Ā Play time: 10 hours
What can i say about this game that hasn't already been said at length by other critiques more qualified than me? No Manā€™s Sky is a perfect example of a studioā€™s redemption arc. Clawing their way from a broken buggy mess all the way up to a decent space survival and exploration game. You play as a spaceman. And your goal, more or less, is to get to the center of the universe. There are other goals that you need to accomplish between you and the final destination, but that's the joy of the game. I got this game after watching Internet Historianā€™s documentary on the game. However, I got 10 hours in and then got stuck. The next main story mission was in a system I wouldn't be able to travel to in a long time. So I stopped and have not picked up the game since. The game is constantly being updated and patched. So maybe after a big update and a few patches i'll pick it up again. Who knows. Space is huge, and there are billions of possibilities. So I am looking forward to what Hello Games will make next.Ā
NonGunz Playtime: 50 minutes.Ā
Thisā€¦ is a weird game. It is entirely wordless, the visuals are starkly monochromatic, except a few shades of red, and the game gives you no tutorial on how its major mechanics work. Even its achievements don't have many words. I will admit, I did look up a guide on steam just to figure out what the hell is going on. The game is slightly deeper than it initially appears. Every bullet you fire increases your score by 1. You could just mash your left bumper to build up a big score, but that is boring, will take a while, and chew through your controllers. The better way to get points is to enter the dungeon. Where you must fight against gross goopy body parts, pick up power up cards, and rescue your fellow skeletons. As you kill the chronenbergs littering this strange hospital/butcher, your score increases. Presumably, once you beat a boss, you have the option to leave the dungeon. You can do this to empower the big gun and skull shrine in the main town and construct loyal warrior minions to collect crap for you, so you can make future runs more successful. The thing is, this takes *Real time* to do. Fortunately you can back out of the game and pass time on the treadmill in your bedroomā€¦ which is still in the game. This is a weird one folks i dont know what to tell ya.Ā
Nuclear Throne: playtime 2hours.
Nuclear throne is one of the old school roguelikes that first popped up when the genre was new and fresh. It has gone on to inspire many other games, such as Enter the Gungeon. I actually prefer Gungeon over Nuclear Throne. Don't get me wrong, NT is still a good game. It's just that it has been surpassed by other games that have the same style as it. You play as a ragtag group of mutants in the post apocalypse, on a quest to sit upon the legendary nuclear throne, and become king of the apocalypse. To do this, you must kill thousands of enemies that stand in your way using an array of weapons. Ranging from standard revolvers, to crossbows, to laser pistols, to screwdrivers. Along the way, your mutant levels up and gains new traits which can make the game a smidge more easy. (not to any noticeable degree though) i dont think ive ever gotten past the third stage of the game. By the time I get there I've lost too much health and spent too much ammo. So I end up dying to some weird looking creature or another. The game is unforgiving. Health is hard to come by and enemies are numerous and fierce. You have to be careful to play this gameā€¦ i am not careful.Ā
