For those who haven't been following the project: Wishbone is a character drama-slash-farming sim game that takes place in a wild west-inspired setting. The player takes the role of a farmer, fresh off the wagon in a new town and tasked with building a successful ranch. The town of Wishbone might seem sleepy and mundane--albeit full of weirdos--at first, but there’s trouble brewing on the horizon: a fierce, prolonged standoff between the lawmen and the outlaws that will decide the fate of the town itself.

The Summer Year 1 beta represents a complete vertical slice of the first 25% of the final game. It contains around 10-20 hours of playtime, depending on how thorough you are.

Trait Chemistry Mod edit

Everybody who downloaded my updated (1 Nov 2024) edit of Trait-based TO Chemistry Mod , based on a mod by Atomtanned , based on a chemistry mod by Dill. I overlooked a few things so it still wasn't working properly, @episims has helped me fix it /again/. Thanks, Epi.

In this latest edit I decided to remove One True Hobby checks, so only actual hobby enthusiasm points can trigger TOs.

A few words to anyone who'd like to make their own edit of the chemistry mod under the cut:

Have in mind that Dill (at the time of writing this) haven't updated their mod and it still contains quite a few issues, style TO doesn't work, Alien genetics do not trigger alien TO, and there are a few other less serious things like cologne or hats triggering TO's they shouldn't trigger. Any edit of that mod inherits the bugs and ppl editing it should mention having it fixed.

So if you'd like to adjust a trait-based chemistry mod to match your own needs, there are other, cleaner mods for you to choose from. There's trait-based chemistry mod by @curiousb , Fran provided detailed documentation so if I was to do an edit for myself now, I'd pick that one. And there's Epi's TO chemistry mod, not fully trait-based but it has a bit of trait functionality added.

The problem is, chemistry mods have lots of features and testing it is a hassle. I admit I didn't do a great job testing my mod edit - but since I noticed my edit doesn't work as supposed to, I tried to track down all the problems and Epi came to the rescue. I had to include modified perfume BHAV, which might cause temporary flower effects for some Sims (only once) but it was necessary to fix the cologne issue.

As far as I know, this chemistry mod edit by @ramblinsims (also based on Atomtanned's edit of Dill's mod) works (almost) fine, they've fixed all the known issues aside from the Cologne triggering TO that it has been replaced with (but they are aware of it and intend to fix it).

Welcome to the first Chill Valicer Save update of 2024! Where we discover that the gang is a few months ahead of us in the calendar and already celebrating Egg Day. :p However -- before we get into that, we first have to cover a mini-update I did before playing through Egg Day proper, where I took a crack at updating the house a little bit! I'd hoped to do a bit more with replacing furniture and such, but ended up deciding to hold off until after Christmas/my birthday (when I received the cashola to buy Horse Ranch and Home Chef Hustle) when I'd have more options. Here's what I did manage to update, though:

A) I took all the new plants out of Smiler’s inventory (black bean, soybean, coconut, pineapple, noxious elderberry, poison fireleaf – as it turns out, I didn't need them to buy a pomegranate as we already had a pomegranate tree), plus the spare planter that Victor made way back when from the household inventory, plopped all those in the greenhouse, and started rearranging! I now have all of Smiler’s herbalism stuff together, with the noxious elderberry and poison fireleaf next to their counterparts; all the veggies together; all the fruits together (with the pineapple next to the dragon fruit); all the flowers together; the soybean and black bean in the new planter; and the coconut in the empty patch in the orchard. So basically everything is now grouped a lot better. I may still rearrange the planters themselves in the future so certain types of plants are closer to the crafting stations that use them (like putting all flowers near the flower-arranging bench), but at least now all the similar plants are grouped together properly! Oh, and while I was in there, I tried replacing the "stuck" juice fizzer (that was permanently displaying a "ready to collect" screen with nothing in it) with a new one, just so the gang had one at home if they wished to use it. I later discovered that the new one ended up "stuck" too, but at least I tried?

B) I replaced both the upstairs and downstairs litter boxes with the fancy kind that shoots lasers to automatically vaporize cat poop. XD Hey, look, the family can afford it, and it saves them having to clean the litter boxes.

C) I recolored Moory’s shed to some cheerier colors after being like “why would THIS FAMILY, of all families, go with a beige cow shed” – now it’s bright yellow! Isn't that nicer?

D) I replaced the toilet and sink in the downstairs bathroom with more expensive versions – with decorative slots, so I could put a soap dispenser on the sink. :) I was going to do the same upstairs, but ran into a problem because the two bathrooms have very distinct color schemes, and I’m not sure the toilet and sink combo I used downstairs would fit with either...have to ponder that one a bit more!

E) I penned in Toothy – which involved MOVING Toothy to the other side of the front yard, by the tree in the left-hand corner and the wind farm, because as it turns out cowplants need surprisingly big pens. Possibly because Sims have to stand a certain distance away from them to feed and play with them. If I’d left Toothy in its usual spot, I wouldn’t have had any way to get to the pet obstacle course in the corner by the kitchen. I’m still not ENTIRELY happy with the placement, but it’ll do for the moment, and it means Toothy is now cut off from anyone who can’t get through the gate – which is anyone but household members. *nods*

F) And this one I didn't get a good shot of (though you'll see it in a future update) – I copied one of the grouped photo frames I got from that family reunion I did a little bit back and put some of Victor and Alice’s honeymoon photos from Selvadorada in there. It looks nice (even if I still have a couple of spare photos that have to be arranged around the grouped frames), but I still need to decide how to handle all the photos they’ve got hanging around. I’ve been thinking that I should maybe cull a few so they have more space on their walls and perhaps look a touch less narcissistic...but the problem there is, I personally love the photos, so I don’t know if I could bring myself to delete them. *sigh* We SO need “photo albums” in the this game. Give me a book object that you can put photos in, and that when you click on it, plays a little slideshow of the photos, and I will be CONTENT.

The Sims 2 Career Numbered Levels & More Consistent Titles

Know this mod by Phaenoh? So I remade it from scratch. The original one had issues; some careers didn't have numbers, and some levels were swapped (according to people). Now instead of "Lvl X" numbers are in brackets, which is more aesthetically pleasing to me. English only, incorporates this.

While I was at it, I renamed some of the careers to make things more consistent. This is a separate mod with its own package file of course. English only, again.

Mod: Trait Based Portrait Thumbnails

So this is somewhat of an experiment still, but I wanted to put it out there, tell me what you think 😄

For the Life and Death expansion pack a trait based pose for the new Macabre trait was added - weirdly enough EA did this for this trait only which makes no sense to me (not sure what future plans hold) and I also wasn't quite happy with the way this was done.

On the one hand this pose is all over the UI (mod for it here) looking very out of place, especially being the only trait based pose.

But I like the idea of poses matching the personality style of the sims and wish they had done this one properly. So I expanded on the idea making use of the new feature by adding more trait based poses. I focussed here on portrait thumbnails (Household pictures) only though. I originally wanted to put this to use for custom (group) poses made for the Gallery but sadly, to make this work, I need to override traits which flags sims as CC. This renders the whole enterprise rather useless for the Gallery :'( Still nice for in-game though, I think.

In a first step I have assembled these 16 BG traits/poses for adults (will work for teen - elder):

Update as of December 8th, 2024: I included/mapped some poses for kids as well mostly by remapping existing portrait poses (since kids only have one trait I think the effect is not as noticable, though):

The poses above are based on existing EA poses and animations. I edited them slightly when necessary.

I'm thinking about adding more poses and traits if I can find good options. I'm also open to feedback - If you have any (pose) ideas or suggestions, let me know (>Discord)👋

Changelog:

December 8th, 2024: Updated the mod for the new trait Grouch that was added with patch 1.111.102 for the Cozy Celebrations Event, (the trait will be only available to you if and when you complete(d) the respective part of the event, I just added in the references; besides Grouch will also use the Mean pose). Also added some kids poses, mostly by remapping existing portrait poses that suit the traits.

November 10th, 2024: EA updated the cheerful trait to exclude the macabre trait. I updated the files correspondingly.

Notes:

You might need to delete the file localthumbcache to let the game generate new thumbnails, otherwise you only see the changes when the game decides to update the thumbnails next time the household changes.

The game will use the trait based pose when your sim has the trait, no matter the order of the trait. However, when your sim has two or more matching traits, the order counts (first trait that matches will be used).

This mod is an override of the file 606E21551C25836A/"CAS_Portrait_Thumbnails" - same file I'm using for my mods for Gallery poses ("No More Mirroring Mod" and "No Randomization Mod") and will therefore conflict with them.

To make this new feature work, EA introduced a new parameter with the patch that goes inside a trait and can be referenced for the poses. So to make this work for other traits, I had to override the traits to include this new parameter. There's no alternative because a certain type of file (SimData format) is involved that can't be injected to with a script.

Unfortunately, overriding the traits flags sims as CC.

Also note that this mod might conflict with other mods overriding the same traits.

~ EVENT SPOTLIGHT : Videotome Jam - "Waiting" ~

November 16th to December 1st 2024

Videotome Jam is a two-week-long game jam for games made in any of the Videotome engines with the optional theme of "Waiting".

What is Videotome?

Videotome is a series of small homebrew IF/VN engines made by Freya Campbell (communistsister), an indie game developer focusing on narrative games that are usually:

science fiction, horror, &/or romance

close to 100% LGBTQ characters

free/PWYW with low tech requirements

liable to make players keysmash due to feelings

Videotome was first released in April 2022 as a part of a game entry for the Domino Club collective. The initial idea for the engine was to make writing text-heavy games as hassle-free as possible, focusing not that much on the visual presentation format, but more on the writer's experience. It would allow writers to write in a notepad and then it would somehow grab the .txt file and parse the lines into an array, spitting them out one line at a time as a kinetic novel.

At the moment there are four engines available:

Videotome, for linear, no frills text / images / music;

Videotome ADV, adding a more conventional layout with ignorable choices and branching;

Super Videotome, for more fully featured and freeform image/canvas use;

Videotome Heartbreak, adding a stat raising dating sim & storylets structure to the above.

And most importantly, where — or who — did the bullet hit? — Monarch (Ren’Py) is a short visual novel game that was made during Ukrainian Micro Visual Novel Jam in 10 days.

Halloween is a big deal in Port Gillain, steeped as the town is in old folklore and ghost stories. You, the local psychic, regularly attend the festivities. This year, you can bring a friend. The Second Sight: All Hallow's Eve (Twine) is a companion story to The Second Sight: Dead Reckoning.

Larry Folger Volume I contains all the chapters of the ongoing narrative complete with music from the series.

Your feather, my wing is a game about getting close to the object of an experiment that your 'super-secret lab' leads! It's all about fun, fluff and cuddles. Nothing serious and if anyone from the "normal world" came to this organization, they'd be disappointed by the lack of pathos, mystery and seriousness. But do you care?

Nestled at the edge of an ancient forest, Ravenwood Hill looms like a shadowed sentinel against the pale moonlight. This is no ordinary place; whispers of its dark history echo through the trees, carried by the wailing wind. You can either download it or play it online in your browser. — (Some interesting trivia: The game is sometimes called Advent, because the system it was created on in the 70s would not allow filenames to be more than six characters long. This game is sometimes considered as the very first text adventure.)
