love how Garulf won't go down in a sea of troubles but instead recognizes the moving of the tide and decides to ride the wave -- in pop words, go with the flow. My - often quoted - professor once said about one of those Roman usurpators: “Then of course he collected troops and marched for Rome, which was kinda legitimate to do, because obviously he wanted to stay alive.” This was a thing that impressed me, and made me understand this everlasting civil-war much better. Once you had entered the game, it was win or die.

I love it when she shows her nobility not just as a pose but at her core leading her acts... Last sentence is marvelous! It was always a challenge to find fitting poses for Lavinia! She’s not, in our modern sense, self-confident, she’s just used to seeing her orders executed, and she’s as hard on herself as on everyone else. The exchange about love was sadly cut in two. I kinda liked the irony that they both see the other as the only one entitled to love. When really they both are the ones closest to each other’s heart.

would they be equals, in the sense that he is prince to his people and her a princess? Something like that, yes. Although Lavinia’s only de-facto subject at this point is Cecilia. It’s only when she realizes that the Goths are all about to be killed that she fully accepts responsibility for them. Also, her historical inspiration, Galla Placidia is said to have had a personal guard of Visigoths for the rest of her life, long after she returned to Rome.

and rereading this, it relates to the 4 riders in the last scene, too... The four riders are a recurring motive. It’s a story about the end of the world, after all. But I wanted a different take on the subject; so often images of the apocalyptic riders are reduced to drawing a very scary skeleton-horse.

agree with @nornities... And I believe it started as a fade in background image to the scene where Lavinia breaks from the group of women to talk to the Roman soldiers, right? Yes it does! That’s why I wanted to call the Story “Wild Hunt” and nothing else, even if I risked being confused with the videogame of the same title. In the scene with Lavinia walking, my association was hoofbeat=heartbeat. (Sometimes I’d love to have sound-effects). The horses were also in the fire, directly after the Horses-of-St-Marc scene - and I placed the horse walking by there on purpose :) Ever since I read about it, it fascinated me that according to folklore, Theoderic (the Ostrogoth king) rode his horse over the cliffs at Ravenna and became the first rider of the ghostly Wild Hunt. Which is a thing in Bavarian/Alpine tradition, where it’s much feared. And like Lavinia, I believe this must be a misunderstanding.

Rereading this 2 months later, what strikes me now is the sentence "This path we are travelling can only lead to disaster." Seems to me to be the path of mankind on this planet right now :/ Given that I wrote this some time last summer or autumn, the story turned out alarmingly up-to-date by the time I posted it! Maybe we’ve reached another of those points in history. Civilization has been at a point that looked like the end several times by now. (WW2, 30 Years War, Fall of the Roman Empire, to name just a few) The encouraging thing is, that it always got better after that (for a while). But of course it was the end for all those people who died there and then. Maybe this is why there are so many legends about the post-Roman period. It felt like the world was coming to an end, but new things were already beginning to grow from the ashes.

and indeed, the end of a world as she knew it has come, and she is still here... Just what I said above... Also this is another motive that seems to be rooted in people’s imagination. The most notorious example is probably that of the “every-wandering Jew” (badly abused by the Nazis). But I’ve also read exiled French priests during the Revolution express this feeling that their world was gone and they were condemned to wander.

I enjoy getting glimpses into their beliefs. This is also a thing that fascinates me. Many people think, the legends in Ovid’s Metamorphoses were something like the Bible to the Romans, but in fact we know little about their actual everyday beliefs and even less when it comes to non-Roman peoples.

look at all the details of their lives inside that wagon... it's gorgeous! I’m quite a little bit proud of this wagon! For one thing, these travelling people in antiquity lived in such cramped spaces - if they really had a wagon like this, it would have been much smaller, and much more crammed with luggage. But for Sims storytelling, a set must have a minimum size to allow for the decor, Sims and camera to fit in. So this was a bit of a compromise. And then of course the fact that it had to travel to several different locations throughout the story!

GSNK Manga Chapter Summaries

I’ve been using this Google Doc for a while now where I summarized every Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun chapter, and I thought I’d post it because it’s been useful to me when I’m trying to find a certain chapter for drawing or writing references. I think there’s another list like this one somewhere out there, but I remember looking at it and having to read a number of chapters to find the one I was looking for. So, in this list, I tried to add important and iconic scenes that characterize each pairing or a major event.

I’ll be updating the list with each new chapter update as well.

Here’s the link to the Google Doc, but I’ll also post what I have under the read more in case something goes wrong with it. Let me know if you spot any spelling or grammar errors, and I hope that this list helps someone!

0. Anthology Chapter- They play the King’s Game. Sakura touches Nozaki’s butt. Kashima lays her head in Hori’s lap.

1. Sakura confesses to Nozaki, gets his autograph, and becomes his manga assistant.

2. Nozaki and Sakura discuss censorship in shoujo manga. They both go home together on a two seat bike.

3. Mikoshiba is introduced. Mikoshiba wants Sakura to ask him for help. Nozaki, Sakura, and Mikoshiba all try drawing different things, but Mikorin sucks at all of them. He shows Sakura that he draws flowers.

4. Nozaki reveals he can’t draw characters without someone to model them after; he shows Sakura the panels of characters who’re all identical to Suzuki-kun. Seo is introduced. Seo runs from people, gets in the way, calls Nozaki a lolicon, terrorizes the basketball team, and has a dramatic moment with Nozaki where she dumps all her work on him.

5. Kashima is introduced as the high school’s prince who gets all the ladies. Kashima always beats Mikorin at everything, so they’re best friends. Hori drags her away.

6. Hori is introduced by Sakura finding his underwear and cat doodles on the betas. Kashima doesn’t understand their briefs conversation and fails at trying to relate to Hori. Kashima gets beat up a lot.

7. Ken-san & Maeno are introduced. Ken plans on visiting Nozaki, and Nozaki tells Sakura that he wouldn’t clean his room this much ever for a girlfriend. Also, tanuki.

8. Nozaki and Mikorin play dating sims. Mikorin discusses why he’s an otaku. TOMODAAAA!!!!

9. Miyako is introduced. Tanuki tanuki tanuki tanuki tanuki tanuki tan-

10. Kashima: “Hori!! Between me and Nozaki, who do you prefer?” Hori, Sakura, and Mikoshiba really get into a script Nozaki is writing for the theater department.

11. Waka’s introduced finally. Waka’s first introduction to Seo’s music and also Seo’s terrible personality.

12. Sakura and Nozaki go shopping. Nozaki tries to put on a sailor uniform. They find Mikorin looking at anime figurines.

13. Nozaki reveals to Sakura that he keeps crazy past texts from Maeno in his phone just in case he’s assigned Maeno again. Nozaki explains why Maeno was the worst editor in the world and then talks about his first ever meeting with Ken.

14. Waka tries using tactics from manga to confront Seo about her behavior towards him. Waka ends up challenging Seo to a duel on the roof of the school, but his challenge letter looks more like a love letter. Seo starts calling him Waka. On the roof, he tells Seo that he’s completely infatuated with Lorelei, not knowing that she is Lorelei. He attempts to throw gloves at her, but he hands them over like a gift. Seo completely gets the wrong idea.

15. Ken calls to tell Nozaki that Mamiko feels one-dimensional and that he needs to add some of her feelings into the manga. So, Nozaki does what anyone would do; he pretends to be Mamiko for a day. He makes bentos for everyone. He kidnaps Kashima momentarily, which leads to Hori picking up Kashima and then Kashima picking up Hori. From his experience as Mamiko, Nozaki learns that Mamiko and Suzuki need to spend more time studying.

16. Hori keeps avoiding Kashima, so she goes to Mikoshiba for help. Mikoshiba advises her to be more aggressive, but that just makes Hori think she’s annoying. He throws his bookbag at her, and Kashima discovers he reads Let’s Love. She asks Mikoshiba and Nozaki for their opinions on the manga, and she gets really complicated answers. She then wonders if the reason Hori likes the manga so much is because he wishes to be the heroine in everyday life. So, Kashima sets out on a quest to make Hori feel like a princess, stealing his school uniform and replacing it with a skirt and leaving him necklaces and women’s shoes in his locker.

17. Nozaki and Sakura forget their umbrellas at home when it’s pouring down rain after school. This is the chapter where Nozaki attempts to shield Sakura with his jacket, but they both end up soaking wet on the school steps. Seo is impulsive, so she throws her umbrella at them and runs away in the rain. Nozaki records this in his notes. Nozaki and Sakura walk home in the rain together, and they’re both bad at holding the umbrella. In the end, Nozaki choses to put the scene with Seo in Let’s Love over any moment with Chiyo.

18. Miyako struggles with tanuki some more. Nozaki tells her to confront Maeno and to get him to fix everything he screwed up in her latest manga issue. After that inevitably fails, Nozaki tries to make Miyako’s manga so awful that it serves as a protest against Maeno. Maeno ends up loving it.

19. Mikoshiba models for the art club because he can’t say no to girls. Mikoshiba doesn’t know what a S-curve pose is, and then he looks dumb posing like his anime girl figurines. We meet the art club for the first time, and they’re intense and very specific when it comes to the poses they want Mikoshiba to do. Nozaki shows up and begins posing the entire art club instead of just Mikoshiba. Mikoshiba then promises the art club that he’ll pose for them nude next time, and he immediately regrets it.

20. Nozaki sends Chiyo, Waka, and Hori SOS texts because he’s sick and his deadline is tomorrow. All three of them show up with ink instead of medicine. They take it upon themselves to put the finishing touches on the chapter, but none of them know how to do screen tones. Waka does it perfect on the first try, so it becomes his job. However, none of them know what kind of dialogue to write in the boxes or what kind of screen tones go where, so the chapter comes out looking really intense.

20.5 Omakes. Nozaki names a character when he’s supposed to be sick and sleeping. Kashima and a bunch of guys from class switch pants. Seo gives Waka some star sand from Okinawa.

21. Maeno and Ken attend their high school reunion. Maeno gets a lot of positive attention, while Ken is told to ask Maeno if he ever has any problems. Ken discusses his weight gain and how it’s definitely linked to Maeno. Ken has to take Maeno home when he gets drunk, and Ken is very tired the next day.

22. Mikoshiba is invited to a mixer, and since he’s never actually been to one, Nozaki helps him out by roleplaying with him. Nozaki puts on bunny ears as his girl costume, and Sakura shows up. They keep disappearing into the bathroom every time Mikoshiba says something about himself. After their session inevitably fails, Mikoshiba just sends Kashima in his place, and Kashima steals every single girl at the mixer.

23. Seo and Waka see a movie together. Waka follows popular manga scenarios to get him through it, and he ends up over-dressing. Seo and Waka fight over the arm rest, and Seo always wins. Seo ends up remembering nothing about the movie other than the villains and how they killed people.

24. Nozaki always gives Hori useless instructions when describing the backgrounds he wants. So, Hori tries to make it easier for him by assigning objects to be Suzuki and Mamiko. Nozaki ends up drawing them as erasers and pens, and when they use Mikoshiba’s dolls as reference, Nozaki draws all his characters with really big boobs. Mikoshiba sees the set up the next day, and him and Hori end up building a doll house together. They’re really serious about the doll house, and Kashima shows concern for Hori.

25. Hori gets inspired by the choir club, and he wants to put on a musical. However, Kashima reveals she’s completely tone-deaf, so she calls upon the help of Seo to teach her how to sing.

26. Miyako’s college classmates wonder about her personal life. A classmate sees Miyako, Nozaki, and Chiyo discussing manga together in a café, but since she doesn’t know that Miyako is a mangaka, she assumes they’re all talking about their lives. The classmate becomes very, very confused.

27. Nozaki and Mikorin research what it’s like to be a delinquent for Let’s Love. Mikorin climbs a tree and doesn’t do his homework.

28. Sakura finds left over chocolates she never gave Nozaki for Valentine’s Day because she couldn’t catch up to him while he was running around finding reference for his manga. She decides to share the chocolates with him now, but she ends up bumping into him and spilling them all over the floor. Nozaki eats one off the floor, and Sakura looks really happy, which makes her look like a sadist. This is the chapter where Seo tells the story about her leaving a kid in the back of a truck and the truck pulling away.

29. Since Waka has been helping out with screen tones, he wants a new x-acto knife. He has trouble remembering the names of the screen tones, so he gives them nicknames. He names all of the violent ones “Seo-senpai”. Seo gets him a new knife, and he immediately drops it on his thigh.

30. While Kashima and Hori are practicing for the upcoming play, it becomes apparent that their characters are clashing. Hori asks Nozaki to stand in for him, but Nozaki is a horrible actor who keeps adding backstory for minor characters. So, the gang gets Mikoshiba to stand in instead because he’s easy to manipulate. Hori discovers Mikoshiba reminds him of Mamiko, or rather, Mikoshiba is Mamiko. Because of this Hori keeps messing up Mikoshiba’s name, almost calling him Mamiko every time. Hori then wants Mikoshiba to come act for him again the next day, but he finds out Mikoshiba will have to warm up to him again.

30.5 Omakes. Nozaki wears that bear suit on stage and duels Kashima with judo. Kashima asks Hori if he spikes his bangs, and when he responds that leaving his bangs down makes him look younger, Kashima concludes that Hori wants to look older. So, she buys him some red stilettos.

31. Nozaki tries to think of a twist to put in Let’s Love, so he spends all day at school trying to surprise Chiyo. This is the chapter where Nozaki pretends to be Chiyo’s seat and gives her flowers with a fake, detachable hand. It’s also the chapter where they share a bento that appears to be all rice but has curry under it. There’s NozaChiyo development at the end when Nozaki walks Chiyo home, and Chiyo is like, “What about the surprise?” And Nozaki goes, “Why? I just felt like walking with you.”

32. Nozaki, Waka, and Hori play an otome game Ken gave to Nozaki. Every time the camera zooms in on one of the guys, Nozaki and Hori back up because it makes them really uncomfortable. Through the game’s plot, they discover that the men’s personalities always do a complete 180, and the main protagonist is super adaptable.

33. Mayu’s introduction chapter. Sakura and Mikoshiba meet Mayu for the first time after they see Nozaki running towards him outside the school. Mayu reveals how Nozaki got permission to live on his own and what their parents think of Nozaki’s line of work.

34. Waka fantasizes about going on dates with Lorelei to Nozaki, who disapproves of that relationship because he knows Lorelei is actually Seo. Because Waka is so distraught, he stops playing with Seo, who gets so upset she doesn’t want to sing. Once Waka explains his distress to Seo, she gets really happy, and she records her new song, which puts Waka right to sleep when he hears it.

35. Nozaki needs inspiration for his manga, so he tries to find Chiyo and Mikorin in the train station without using cell phones. Nozaki and Chiyo just keep buying food from all the stores instead of trying to find Mikoshiba, so he freaks out and has the staff make a lost child announcement over the intercoms.

36. Nozaki tries to help Hori with the backgrounds. It’s the boxes chapter. Hori starts taking pictures for reference, and in the process of showing Nozaki something from the manga, Kashima sees him showing Nozaki Mamiko being carried bridal style. Kashima gets the impression that Hori wants to be carried princess style, so when Hori passes out from exhaustion, she dons the bull mask and sprints him to the infirmary. An iconic chapter.

37. Mayu stops by Nozaki’s place before Nozaki gets home, and Mikoshiba stumbles upon him. Since they can’t get in, they visit with Miyako for a little bit. Mikoshiba offers to draw flowers for Miyako to pay her back for her hospitality, and Mayu offers to model for her shirtless, since that takes the least amount of effort.

38. The festival chapter. Mikoshiba wears a yukata. Waka thinks Seo is on a date with Kashima since he’s never met her, and she looks like a boy. Hori takes pictures for reference and gets a really good one of Kashima. Nozaki takes a bite of Chiyo’s candy apple.

39. Three of Maeno’s mangakas get transferred to Ken, which causes Ken to think back to the time when he first started editing for Nozaki. He remembers that he had to go through several trials just to show Nozaki that he’s actually read his manga and how Maeno was there but was attending a mixer instead of doing his job.

40. The boys have a sleep over because of the rain. Mikorin meets Waka. Mikoshiba tries to get Waka and Hori to pick out their type of girl from magazines and yearbooks. Nozaki spends this time trying to gather material for his manga, turning everything the boys say into some kind of cliché girl talk.

41. Sakura tries being a “little devil” to get Nozaki’s attention. Nozaki pats her head because he’s seriously worried about her.

42. Kashima loses her voice. Her voice gets really deep, so she wears pants to commemorate the occasion. When she’s instructed to not talk anymore, Mikorin does the talking for her, but it’s so embarrassing that he can’t do it for long. So, Hori takes over, but he starts ad-libbing. Chiyo says something cute, so Kashima lifts her up. When Hori also tells Kashima to get better, she also tries to lift him up.

43. Mikorin rides the train with Waka and Seo. Waka tells Mikoshiba that he’s in love with Lorelei, someone who Mikoshiba has never heard of because he thought it was a horror story of some sort, and Mikoshiba gives Waka dating advice as if he were playing a dating sim. Mikoshiba texts Chiyo, and Chiyo tells him Seo is Lorelei. Mikorin wonders how a love story could ever happen on a train.

44. Nozaki tries to come up with a mascot for his manga after Ken asks him for chibis. He busts into the art room and starts making clay figures of tiny animals. The salmon chapter.

45. Waka wonders if Seo is dating Kashima and follows them to the mall where they’re picking out swim suits for a drama club retreat. Kashima gets the impression that Waka is a giant pervert. Waka finds out in the end that Kashima is a girl and feels very embarrassed.

46. “Bitch, Imma put you in the ground” Beach episode. “What are you talking about? They’re just lumps of fat, aren’t they?” quote from Waka about boobs. Seo makes the boys lose their swim trunks. A lot of iconic scenes happen in this chapter.

47. The gang is in the hotel at the retreat. That really gay page where all the ladies are flocking around Kashima in the bath, and all the boys are trying to pull Mikoshiba’s towel off in the bath.

48. The chapter takes place after Chapter 1. Chiyo annoys everyone around her by constantly talking about Nozaki. Chiyo flashes back to meeting Nozaki for the first time on the day of the entrance ceremony. We learn that Chiyo’s hairstyle is what Mamiko’s hairstyle was based off of.

49. Mayu starts to draw for his judo club. He asks to borrow Mikorin’s otaku materials. The Mayumayu blog is born.

50. Ken struggles with cover art because he can only draw confusing stick figures.

51. Waka wants to become more confident, so Nozaki takes him to the drama club. Waka gets an eyepatch from Kashima and transforms into someone who takes no BS whatsoever.

52. Nozaki, Chiyo, and Mikorin play a text-based horror video game to inspire Nozaki for the next issue of Let’s Love. Nozaki tries to eat Chiyo’s finger.

53. Ryousuke waits on Miyako and Nozaki having lunch and is under the impression that they’re dating. Nozaki comes off as the worst boyfriend in the entire world, and Ryousuke makes a fool of himself.

54. Kashima, Hori, and Nozaki walk around the school at night to get inspiration for spooky Let’s Love. Hori makes Kashima real scared at the end with an “exclusive ghost story”.

55. Nozaki and Seo try to become the basketball team’s managers. Waka gets hit in the face with a ball. Seo patches him up.

56. Sakura misses Nozaki, so she and Mikorin go to Nozaki’s house (the house where his family lives). However, Mayu is the only one home, and he and Mikorin must stop Sakura from being absolutely crazy in Nozaki’s room. This chapter features iconic moments like Mayu’s tummy reveal, Sakura screaming on Nozaki’s doorstep, and “Sakura, would you do me the honor of going with me to the bathroom?”

57. Mikorin needs a pretend girlfriend in order to make a girl who confessed to him leave him alone. Having Chiyo be it is too awkward. Kashima makes Mikorin feel like the girlfriend. So, that leaves Seo, who gets decked out in her choir make-over for the occasion.

58. All of the editors try to pick a theme for a special issue. They each suggest something different, but they’re all wild or incredibly specific.

59. Mayu and Mikorin text through the judo blog while thinking that they’re both girls. Mikorin thinks Mayu is SUPER cute. Mayu wears himself out texting Mikorin so much that he passes out during class. His classmates try to recharge his battery by attempting to plug their phone chargers into him.

60. Chiyo and Nozaki help Kashima figure out a script she’s rehearsing, one that Nozaki wrote. This chapter features the iconic scene of Kashima seeing Hori as everything to her, including her mom, dog, love interest, and rival. “All right, Kashima! Imagine this! Imagine me (Nozaki) and Hori-senpai are dating!” Kashima is told to stay away from Hori for a while in order to get into character, and it’s distressing.

61. Smart Phone vs. Flip Phone chapter but also the cups on a string chapter. It’s that chapter where those background characters fall in love because of the cups, and it’s really cute.

62. Waka has some trouble with screen tones and the character Seo is based off of. Hori figures out Oze is based off of Seo and Waka is based off of Wakamatsu, and like usual, he gets caught up in Let’s Love characters and is silly.

63. Miyako goes out drinking with college friends. Ryuosuke carries her home when she gets wasted.

64. Sakura and Mikoshiba are trying to lose weight, so they ask Mayu to help them since he’s buff because of judo. Mayu shouts things like “I like you Sakura; go on a date with me” and “Sakura, your waist is so thin” to motivate Sakura, but Mikorin is super embarrassed. Mikorin and Sakura find out the cause of their weight gain is because of all the treats Nozaki feeds them.

65. Hori stumbles upon Kashima and Sakura playing Kokkuri. Nozaki joins in too. There’s the bit about Kashima wearing no panties and Hori not really caring. Goofs happen. Kashima ends up spooking Mikoshiba.

66. While trying to find someone for Seo to date to get her away from the basketball club, Waka finds out she hates being flirted with more than anything. Waka takes this opportunity to mess with her, and it’s cute.

67. Nozaki bullies Mikoshiba and Sakura for reference for his manga. He gets girls to pull Mikorin away, he writes Sakura a fake love letter, he puts candy in Sakura’s shoes, and Seo helps him hide stuff from Sakura. Sakura then gets the idea to instead bully Nozaki, but she just keeps asking for food and won’t stop.

68. We all find out Hori has a thing for legs, and his ideal legs belong to Kashima. Of course, he doesn’t know that they’re Kashima’s legs in the photo. The crew tries to get Hori to notice he likes Kashima’s legs, and it goes just about as good as you’d imagine.

69. Ken and Maeno have a sleep over in the editing office while Ken waits for a manuscript. The mangaka he’s waiting for becomes increasingly more petrified that she’s going to be returned to Maeno as the night goes on.

70. It’s the sports festival chapter! Sakura and Mikoshiba are doing table tennis. Nozaki signs up for basketball, which is unfortunate for Sakura because she’s scared of Nozaki getting popular. So, whenever Nozaki mentions it, Sakura becomes very angry, and Nozaki thinks it’s because their classes are rivals and because Sakura is just really competitive. Kashima can’t try to beat Nozaki because she keeps passing the ball to Hori even when he’s not on her team. Seo can’t because she got pushed to table tennis because of how rough she plays. 82. Girl’s night! Kashima, Seo, and Sakura go to Seo’s house and have a slumber party. They don’t know what to do at a girl’s night though, so they call Nozaki. They end up playing a fighting game, picking their characters based on the guys they like. Mayu, Waka, Mikoshiba, and Nozaki are also all having a slumber party, but they play gal games instead. The girls end up discussing what underwear they like on guys, and the guys discuss the sad ending to the gal game.

83. Nozaki finds himself in the middle of a drama club exercise. The drama club is in the woods, and if they stumble upon another person, they must do improv. However, characters will just not stop dying at the end of each skit.

84. Waka keeps falling asleep in the hallway at school because he keeps stumbling upon Seo singing and humming. Seo keeps finding him, and eventually, she finds out from Hori that he falls asleep because of Lorelei’s singing. Seo exploits this, and she makes him fall asleep over and over again so that she can put his sleeping body in weird poses. Waka falls asleep on Seo’s lap, and when she sings softly to him, she can’t wake him up.

They discuss how what you look for in a significant other changes as you get older. Nozaki and Miyako show up to meet with their editors, and they try their hands at making an adult manga. Nozaki shows that he knows nothing about office life, and Miyako deals with a tanuki bastard.

86. Nozaki helps the art club carry some bags full of plaster, and in return, he asks them to share their experiences with love. One member talks about how she kicked her rival’s jacket, and another one describes her ideal boy as a horse. This chapter has a lot of golden NozaChiyo moments. While carrying the bags, Chiyo tries to help, but the bags are way too heavy for her. So, Nozaki picks her up with the plaster and carries her. Then, towards the end when Chiyo is describing her ideal man, Nozaki starts to strip and tells her he’ll model for her. She gets jealous because all the art club members are looking, and then Chiyo says something that makes Nozaki’s heart flutter.

87. Miyako, Nozaki, and Mikoshiba discuss the manga trope of character transformations. After, Mikoshiba tries to apply the idea to Kashima’s character, and he tries to give her a make-over. However, Hori busts in and tells him he’s doing it wrong, so Hori takes over and transforms Kashima into his ideal woman. “Nozaki, my ideal man’s face has always been Kashima but… I just realized now, but could it be that my ideal girl is also Kashima…?”

88. Waka confesses to Sakura that he’s in love with Lorelei. Sakura kind of freaks out, and when she tries to find someone to consult in, she realizes none of her friends have had their first love yet. As someone who knows what unrequited love is like, Sakura makes it her mission to get Waka and Seo to date. However, Nozaki finds out she knows and tries to stop her with brute force, which is just him picking her up and carrying her away every time she tries to tell Waka Lorelei is Seo. Then, Waka discovers Chiyo likes Nozaki, and he tries to get them to date. Chiyo realizes why Nozaki was trying so hard to stop her.

89. Nozaki, Chiyo, and Mikoshiba try to study together, but the test date and Nozaki’s deadline overlap so the study session becomes material for Let’s Love. Nozaki turns the literature they’re supposed to be analyzing into manga, and it comes out looking like a BL. It skews the answers the teacher gets on his test. This is the chapter where Nozaki and Sakura switch their bow and tie. This chapter also features a small MayuMiko moment, where Mayu-Mayu sends Mikoshiba a picture not on the blog and wishes him luck on his test. It makes Mikoshiba’s heart throb.

90. Ever since chapter 87, Hori has been trying to find faults in everything Kashima does so that she strays from his idea of his ideal woman. Mikoshiba and Nozaki want him to realize that he has these feelings because he is crushing on Kashima, so they bring them to the pool. However, every time Hori is nice to Kashima, she thinks he’s doing improv, so she plays along as a different character. Hori pats her head in a certain way that makes Kashima feel like he has recognized her as his kouhai.

FTSOC is available in 13 languages: English, Spanish, French, Polish, German, Portuguese-Brazil, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, Italian, Czech, Turkish, and Japanese.

HISTORICAL TRIVIA:

Officially called the 1st American Volunteer Group (the “AVG”), the Flying Tigers were flying mercenaries contracted by the Chinese government under President Roosevelt’s “Secret Executive Order”.

Assuming fake identities, AVG recruits had to travel by ship half-way around the world to get to Rangoon, Burma. One pilot made the trip undercover with a specially-made passport indicating he was a missionary. Others posed as plantation managers, cowboys and even circus performers!

China paid AVG fighter pilots a $500 bounty for each Japanese aircraft shot down. In addition, the monthly renumeration was $675 for flight leaders, $600 for pilot officers, and about $250 for ground-crew staff (at the time, about $600 bought a factory-new Ford V-8).

The Flying Tigers insignia patch was designed by two Disney artists – Roy Williams and Henry Porter – together they worked up a painting of a Bengal cat leaping out of a V-for-victory sign.

The AVG and the Chinese were financed and organised by White House lobbyists and advisors using shadow companies and laundered money to shield the Roosevelt Adminstration from violating any neutrality acts.

As per Roosevelt’s “Secret Executive Order”, all Flying Tigers “volunteers” had to resign from the military and become civilians. If captured, they risked being executed as spies by the Japanese.

Starting out with only 99 P-40 fighters, the Flying Tigers racked up an amazing combat record in just about seven months. Their tenure collectively destroyed 297 enemy aircraft in Burma, Thailand and China.

Rugged construction allowed the P-40s to withstand steep dives as the Tigers swooped down on the Japanese from high above using “hit and run” tactics invented by their daring flight instructor, Claire Lee Chennault. This caused Japanese fighter pilots to view the Flying Tigers with bittersweet respect. They thought the Tigers didn’t fight fair.

On the 4th of July 1942, the American Volunteer Group aka the Flying Tigers were disbanded as the Chinese contract expired and the onslaught of World War 2 made further non-official (covert) operations politically difficult.

After July 4, the U.S. Army 23rd Fighter Group took over the AVG P-40s but only five tiger pilots accepted induction. For morale and propaganda, the Flying Tigers name was retained for the 23rd pilots.

After the AVG were disbanded, the U.S. refused to recognize the Flying Tigers. That position remained unchanged until 1991 when the “honorably discharged” Tigers officially became WW2 veterans.
