Galois Room Post!

I made Gale's room in the Sims! It took a ridiculous amount of time for such a tiny room. Overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out-it's faithful to what I was picturing, and the places it's not can be blamed more on the limitations of the Sims 4. One thing I struggled with was the size. It's supposed to be a pretty small room, most of the living areas in Draxum's house are, but I definitely had trouble placing everything I wanted in there. Sizing it up 1x1 made it feel too big though. (Sims 5, please let us build walls on half or quarter tiles, I'm BEGGING you) In the end I couldn't fit in a real bookshelf, which was my only real gripe, but he still has plenty of space for books. (plus Draxum has so many bookshelves, he can offload some if he gets too cramped)

I wanted to have it mostly Galois but not 100% Galois. He's a teenager and wants to decorate his bedroom to the nines because that's what teenagers do, but I also wanted to keep in mind that this furniture was not bought for him and was mostly left over from its last occupant/bought when Draxum viewed Donnie as his new science slave and not his son.

Without further ado, here we go!

It's...yeah, it's white. Nothing else really looked good. It was Bella's room first and Draxum didn't bother to repaint. She probably had this place papered with posters and cringey 90's wall hangings when she lived here. In retrospect pale purple walls were a trend in the 90's, but whatever it's done now.

(I also forgot to paint the walls originally so I might have just gotten used to the white)

Also just imagine the ceilings are a little lower, the wall height needed to be on medium for the rest of Draxum's house to work and due to how the Sims 4 works I couldn't give just Gale's room shorter walls. The top of the cabinet should be touching the ceiling.

Other side! Gave him some nice plants, he's got some hanging ones around his bed and computer area. :) I'm not sure how I feel about the rug but I was feeling a circular rug and the colors worked. Left door is to the bathroom.

Huginn and Muninn 100% made that knitted turtle for him.

Did I give him one of those fairy light canopies every movie and sitcom character had in the 2000's? Yes. Yes I did. Look, I wasn't planning on it, but I saw it in the lighting section and I had to give it to him. I know I'm terrible to him but he is my baby and I will spoil him.

Better view of the bed. (the canopy kept fading from existence) Got the salt lamp and the lantern Cass gave him, I'm so happy I found those. I'm probably the least happy here, he needs more stuff on his shelves and more pictures under them. There's so many goddamn pictures in this room but HE IS A TEENAGED BOY and this is how they express themselves.

Also the clutter under the bed. In-fic that platform is actually storage space, so it works. Please enjoy how he's hiding his fashion magazines behind the pillow.

His little computer corner! The Draxum family stays pretty unplugged when they're not at work, (Draxum would like them to be anyway) but Gale's allowed to have all the tech he wants in his bedroom as long as it stays in this corner.

So that bookcase thing. Is NOT a bookcase. It is a thing of evil. It drove me absolutely nuts because I wanted to fill those shelves in with clutter. Those are not snap points. But the bookcase has snap points. So I couldn't alt-move stuff there or use 9-0 keys because they'd just snap to the bottom there. So now they just look empty and stupid while he has books on the floor.

But other than that, I like this corner. He's got some binders for schoolwork in the cubby there, got some artsy stuff for relaxing and his box of vinyl records with no record player. (Draxum probably has a record player somewhere) It looks like how an actual teenager would organize his shit. I'm not sure how I feel about him leaving a stack of books on the floor, but overall Gale is a very good book owner so I'm sure he's careful.

He doesn't get a window so I gave him a nice picture with curtains so he can pretend.

On a side note, I absolutely fucking hate the curtains in this game, that was the only set that looked good and didn't cover up the whole damn picture AND THEY DIDN'T COME IN PURPLE. Really, there's such a lack of purple in this room. Blame the color swatches, because I tried. God I miss Create-A-Style.

Again, please use your imagination and imagine the bulletin board filled with pictures of him with Cass or Pax and loving notes from the goyles. There's also a watch on his dresser-before he recreated his tech gauntlet, Draxum gave him a really nice watch to wear. He doesn't wear it anymore because having his gauntlet on hand is a major source of comfort, but he still loves the watch. I also realize this looks more like a girl's bedroom, but to be fair Donnie is very gender and Galois inherited that from him.

(I was SO tempted to put that box of kleenex behind his computer)

I don't know what that orb thing is supposed to be. Maybe like a mini version of the orb Draxum was looking into during the Goyles episode? That sounds like something a Yokai teenager would have in their room.

I wanted to give him a stereo too but my game glitched out and wouldn't place any, so I put a mixtape there in honor of that. We'll say Cass made it for him.

I did make his bathroom too, but it's not the most interesting because

God, doors in this game look so silly when they're up against a wall.

It was looking way too white so I gave him the fishies and the plants for a splash of green. That sink is also SO not the style I was going for but everything else was clashing with the other counter. We can say this bathroom was remodeled at some point when vessel sinks were in fashion. I don't know why because no one was living here when they were. (Huginn and Muninn probably did it as a weekend project just for fun) I feel like he needs a rug and a big piece of art on the opposite wall, now that I'm looking at it.

I definitely went overboard with the bathroom clutter. I was just very excited that I was able to squeeze in a whole counter just for decoration. Seriously, I just wanted to add in that eyebrow pencil so he could draw on his eyebrows, then that evolved into the blush palette and the makeup brushes and the lotions and the nail stuff. He doesn't even fucking wear blush.

He did make his electric toothbrush, though Draxum makes him keep a backup because he's skeptical about how that works.

And that's the build! I'm also building the rest of Draxum's house, but it's taking a while due to the absolute utter ridiculousness of the layout. (I mean, it's my own fault, I'm the one that chose this layout)(and also because I need to use the curved wall tool for his mushroom house, and by god curved walls are impossible to work with) Decorating should be quicker though, the only place with this level of detail should be the lab and maybe the greenery. I'll probably revise his room a little, maybe paint his walls an actual color. I also want to do something more with the cactus he has on his counter. Maybe I'll download some more CC so I can give him purple curtains.

I also have no idea if this is actually playable. Probably not, I feel like a Sim wouldn't be able to figure out the platform bed thing. But whatever, I didn't make this to actually play in.

We’ve reached Spring Tuesday in the Chill Valicer Save, and -- as promised last week -- I have fixed the lighting situation in the house! And made a few other little tweaks and improvements while I was at it, because build mode is my passion. :p First though, please marvel over my very impressive shot of lightning striking the tree behind the greenhouse, because I basically NEVER pause the game in time to get a snap of lightning when it strikes in this game. :D

Okay, so -- first things first, the updates from my little trip into build mode:

1. The major update -- I have replaced ALMOST all electric lights in this house with candle chandeliers and sconces from Vampires! Mostly because those are the brightest and best off-the-grid lights I could find in the catalog. The only places that didn’t get this update were Smiler’s party on the upper level of the barn (as I felt it made more sense for that spot to have electric lights), and the greenhouse (as I couldn’t find any other good lights that would fit). Now, when the power inevitably goes out again, the house itself will stay lit, because candles work off-the-grid! My HOPE is that having fewer electric lights will also allow the household to rebuild its power surplus and thus have power for longer stretches.

2. I replaced Victor’s CC Bioshock Infinite upright piano with the actual upright piano from Growing Together -- while I like the CC one, I really liked the colorful swatches on the new “canonical” one, and wanted to use it. It even has slots on top, making it the perfect place to store that MySim trophy Smiler recently picked up. :) I also hung up a painting Victor did recently on his sketchpad, and put down a new rug -- one of the swatches available on Simularity’s new nursery rug set! Yes, okay, the rug is INTENDED for nurseries, as in the name, but the minute I saw that butterfly swatch, I knew it was perfect for Victor. XD

3. After talking to my friend Squid (@gaydragonwizards) about the new moon mirror from Werewolves, I realized it would be a good addition to the seance room, so I hung it up over the rocking chair. I also got the little moon salt lamp and stuck that in there too, atop the bizarre idol shelf. :)

4. And you can’t really see any of these in any of the pictures, but I added a couch to the back porch, made the greenhouse a little bit bigger to accommodate either more trees (or possibly stairs, if I decide I need a second level at some point) and rearranged the trees/plants on the grounds to accommodate that, and swapped out the games table in Smiler’s party room to one of the new Growing Together ones because it had better swatches.

Whew! Mostly little tweaks, like I said, but it did all take some time (especially the greenhouse thing, given I had to figure out where the tree that was in the corner was going). I also took a moment to turn off the Self Discovery mechanic (I mentioned this before, but unless you want the game to pester you on the regular about making Sims Paranoid, I wouldn’t recommend having it on in a Haunted House) and note down everyone’s conversational likes and dislikes:

Okay, so, now that building and preferencing is all done, what about gameplay? Well, after a bit of early Victor/Smiler flirting, Smiler took advantage of a brief burst of power to head upstairs and FINALLY upload their latest SimsTube video, while Alice did some painting and Victor went out to clear some creepy hands -- just in time for Temperance to appear! Well, we know what to do about HER, don’t we?

Today I have some more conversions from Charly Pancakes! This time its all of the objects from her MISCELLANEA set, plus The Candle, because I’m on a candle converting kick at the moment lol. I made the Wings 1 | 2 markings to layer on top of ChinaRose’s leg wrap markings (reupload thread here). The Horus Eye 1b | 2b are actually ANNOYING AF to place--EA’s Markings preview screen is so EFFING TINY, and you have to do A LOT of finagling to place these markings on the dog’s face when it has to get scaled so tiny. It sucks, I know, I’m sorry. U_U

And as an extra, because a few people asked about him, I decided to share my pet Anubis the Jackal with y’all (just put his .sim file in your Library folder and he’ll show up with the other premade dogs). This way, y’all don’t have to bother placing the eye markings on him yourselves.

I used the Spring Rider from Midnight Hollow/the Toy Store Venue to make the EA Hippocampus as Decor. It’s the closest thing I could think of for Capricorn. U_U I added a few variations with goat horns on its head, but there is a variation included without the horns; no worries, I know it looked kinda stupid. XD

The Moon and Stars Wall Decals has several variations that I forgot to take pics of in-game--oops.

Residential Factory

2 Bed, 2 Bath. Lot Size: 30x20. 3 Floors. Costs: $183.266.

Background story

After going to an exhibition about diamond workers, I got inspired to build a factory. Now, the Sims 4 base game doesn’t have factory-items like conveyor belts, interesting machines or vehicles like forklifts. So I decided to go for a residential build. A few days after my inspiration struck, @felixandresims​ and @harrie-cc​  released their KICHEN set, and it happened to work perfectly with my ideas.

The entrance isn't big, but offers a place to hang your coat, an ottoman to put on your shoes and a shelf for your keys. On the left is an office, offering enough room for books - or clutter - and two desks. I mean, who likes to work alone?

The main room is a large kitchen/dining/living area. The kitchen is quite large, that’s Felixandre and Harries fault. Once I placed the first cabinet, I had to place more... and more...

The dining area is also made with the KICHEN pack and can fit 8 Sims. The large windows optimize the looks on the content of the wine bottles. They are purely decorational. Seriously.

The living room - or should it be plural? - offers plenty of room for a TV, clutter and a bunch of Sims. On the other side of the room dividers you can enjoy the fireplace, lounging on a gorgeous sectional.

The first floor has a balcony in the middle. In earlier times, cranes and pulleys would have been here. The left side of the floor consists of the master bedroom, en suite bathroom and walk in closet. The master bedroom has it’s own TV and seating area, to give that extra luxurious feeling. The en suite bathroom is a gorgeous black and white room, so your Sim is the one to bring in the color! The walk in closet is large enough to feature a his-and-hers-wardrobe.

On the right side of the first floor there’s a guest bedroom, equipped with a drawer, a bed, bookcases and a desk. In style, of course. The main bathroom has a decent amount of counter space, a double shower and cabinets for your entire perfume and shampoo collection.

The last room on the first floor is a gym/workout area. Instead of a TV, there’s a big window broadcasting the absolute best slow TV channels!

The top floor - attic, if I may - is a music and art room. The acoustics are optimal for playing the piano and the guitar, but participating in quieter activities like painting can be done here as well.

The buffé table, you can serve all the food for 250 simoleons or individually.

The drinks/dessert fountain, serves chocolate, cheese, fruit punch, sparkling apple juice, caramel, futuristic punch andparty extender punch. Some require higher mixology skill. Some are drinks and some are dips for fruit or bread.

I fully recommend this pack for weddings and parties, other than that the items are kind of pointless because they dont really look good in everyday gameplay/houses, in MY opinion. 3/10.

This pack is cute, the kitchen items are OFTEN used in my game, the one plant is super cute flowers that i love. The one painting has super cute swatched like eggs and bacon with cute faces and avocados. IF you like making kitchens you’ll love this. 8/10.

I like this pack,the items are a bit much when it comes to color and pattern but the plants are very nice and i love the coffee table with the built in mirror. The curtains are the star of this pack for me theyre AMAZING. The cluster of paintings are lovely. The drape down plants on the shelf is also one of my faves. 7/10.

This pack is stunning, i will be honest though i never use the big sculptures, its hard to make something with them. I know a few simmers have built a romantic garden with all the stuff and its like a cute park! The outdoor plants are fab they go with normal houses aswell. The monkey bars are cuter than the base game ones heh. The wishing well is cool but i havent used it since the pack first came out. 4/10.

My sims dont work out often but the treadmill is a nice style. I will give this pack a higher rating because of the bathroom items i LOVE them. 8/10.

how did you get into cc making/modelling/mesh editing? i really want to get into it but i don't know where to start

Well, I started dabbling in CC for the Sims 4 about… 2 years ago? Something like that? But except for the work I did with Zerbu’s Mod Constructor, it was all mostly reallly basic one swatch recolors/retextures, for a specific sim or house because I used to be very exacting about finding the Perfect piece of CC for any one project (alright, still am, just not as much).

I only did a very few mesh edits, mainly deleting lots of vertices and crying over UVs. Mostly though I avoided messing them- largely because I psyched myself out on how difficult it would be.

I didn’t seriously attempt anything else until right after I made my simblr back at Halloween, I started switching around the shades on lamps! And then right after that I made my first mesh from scratch! …Talk about running before walking haha.

And that’s just… what I’ve been doing ever since? I mean, I mostly went back to frankenmeshing because that way the end result being maxis match is pretty much guaranteed and I don’t have to do as much texture work which is just really tedious to me personally.

I have read a lot of tutorials, mostly from the Sims 4 Studio forums, but if I’m honest I mostly skimmed them to begin with and only went back when I ran into problems that could have been easily avoided if I had payed more attention in the first place! Also just using blender has been a complete trial and error, for the longest time I didn’t even know how to join vertices, use proportional editing (would have saved me so much time with my first hair), or even select multiple vertices that were in same location!

Basically, my CC creating method is an absolute mess, and I wouldn’t recommend it all EXCEPT. I feel there’s something to be said about figuring things out yourself and having it stick more than if you had just read it, like you have more insight into the actual mechanics of what you’re doing as opposed to just following a step by step and having less to go off of when something unexpected happens.

More to the point in regards to this particular ask, I guess I would say. Where do you want to start? 99% of my CC is born out of an idea of something that I want in my game, that no one else has made yet or in the same way as I want it- and with some exceptions that usually have more to do with me lazy than anything else I just Go for it, no matter how ambitious the project.

I have no idea if this good advice or not, so please take this with grain of salt and consider asking someone else but there are a lot of people who will list off good beginner projects and while that’s good for some, I personally don’t believe you have to limit yourself to that just because you are a beginner! Even if you have only the most basic grasp of what you’re doing, just keep hammering away at it until you get SOMETHING worth all the effort you’ve already put in.

Even if isn’t exactly how you imagine, or later on down the road you’re like “ugh this is terrible! what i was thinking!”- It’s still a start, and as you genuinely begin to improve and learn from your mistakes you can always revisit it and make it even better than you first imagined :)

2017 in review.

1.What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before? made my own sauerkraut, made my own tomato sauce that actually tasted good, got a supervisor fired (definitely the best thing i did all year), took (part of) the GRE, went to humboldt county, drove on a road with traffic.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? no, not really.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? STEPHY!

4. Did anyone close to you die? several clients, several friends' cats, and Mrs. Bayer (part of my chosen fam) just died a few weeks ago :(

5. What countries did you visit? none.

6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016? more friends, more freedom, a driver's license, maybe a van? oh and for many politicians to be impeached. and if net neutrality is really dead i hope it means that people will put down their phones and close their laptop and overthrow the government with all the free time they'll have.

7. What dates from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? i remember certain protests, certain breakdowns, certain feelings of freedom.  

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? i played a huge part in getting my horrible abusive supervisor fired, which i didn't think was going to work, and almost resulted in ME getting fired. but i didn't! and my co-workers who were equally affected but too afraid to make waves were so grateful and proud. and it made me feel like i could maybe create positive change. a few months later i quit that job because it was making me miserable and took a huge pay cut but i have no regrets, even though i am having a lot more financial probz and it really sucks, my life is mine again.

9. What was your biggest failure? spending a lot of the year drunk. getting into a bike accident and losing my phone because i got too drunk. trying to get sober, multiple times, and failing.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? i got into a bike accident and bruised my chin and finger. and smashed my glasses. this summer i was hanging out in the hospital with my mom after she got her knee replaced and caught some particularly nasty strain of the flu. i got a 103 degree fever and felt like i was actively dying, but i didn't seek medical attention because it was the same day as the charlottesville murder and i was like, "well, maybe there are worse things than dying right now, like living through the rise of facism." plus i didn't have health insurance and i was traveling. but, obviously, i pulled through.

11. What was the best thing you bought? i really like my suitcase, although i may have bought it last year. my himalayan salt lamps. house plants. shelves. my new "i'm not a boy" hat. pesto.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? my friends, some clients, some co-workers, a few sweet and beautiful strangers. also all the LGBT/POC people who got elected last election day!!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? former co-workers, nearly everyone in power in the government right now, sometimes family, some shaky friends, former friends.

14. Where did most of your money go? just surviving i guess. i currently spend about 60-70% of my income on rent. i usually work 6 days a week. sometimes 5, sometimes 7. it's still better than working in an office.
