Off The Beaten Track...

In the village’s Whale Museum, there is a secret exhibit only the locals know about, hidden behind a plain-looking door.

It’s common knowledge that part of the museum’s endowment came from the wealthy and eccentric Professor K., who passed away fifty years ago from an infected insect sting in Selvadorada. What is not common knowledge is that his endowment had strings attached--his estate’s support for the museum hinges upon the display of certain specimens he collected. 

These specimens were not butterflies, which Professor K. had a passionate interest in throughout his life. Nor were they pinnipeds, cetaceans, or other sea animals. They weren’t even prodigiously sized lobsters he had rescued from a grocery store.

Instead, they were a life-size Jenny Hanniver “ningyo” that may or may not have been made from human bones, and some bizarre piece of flesh bobbing listlessly in a container of preservatives. 

The museum director had barely picked her jaw off the floor before Professor K.’s daughters (through their attorneys) contacted her and agreed that the specimens were not within the Whale Museum’s collection policy. As long as the specimens remained available for those who truly wished to see them, they allowed them to be removed from the main exhibit area. 

For those who have a taste for the macabre, if you ask the museum curators nicely...admission to the K. Collection is an extra twenty Simoleons and can only be permitted through the director’s approval. No cameras or other recording devices are allowed.

hi hi, could you maybe show us how to render skin in Blender or make it look a bit realistic? When i import my Sim into Blender it doesn't look like it should, it's texture isn't really good. Or do you know any good tutorial? Hope you can help me out<3

hey babes! :3 this got kinda long bc i ended up writing a tutorial so i put it under a readmore lol as usual anyone can dm me if they need more help

so first off if u dont have this setting enabled on simsripper, definitely turn it on

it makes a huuuuge difference.

i render in eevee nowadays so i also make sure to check ambient occulsion on so i have sexc shadows

and these are my node usual settings for that look of pores/gloss my sims faces/bodies have it is MAGIC

to do this you have to separate the eyes from the head/the body parts from the top and bottom meshes, which can be done in the UV editing tab

this is what it looks like when u go into the uv editor after selecting the head mesh

click those little arrow guys so it looks like this and u can select the eyes part of the head

hover over the other window (the viewport thingy where u can see ur actual sim) and hit the P key, then hit selection and itll separate the two! this is suuuuper useful its how i add varying texture/shine to clothes n shit and u can even delete parts of meshes u dont like if the texture cooperates

i feel like there may be a better way to do this?? but back over in the layout tab ur gonna go to the materials section

and hit that little minus so that the material thing goes away. it doesnt matter which part u do this on(the head mesh or ur new eye mesh) it just unlinks the textures so u can edit them separately

hit new

and then i usually go to another mesh that i havent messed w the nodes in and copy + paste them into this ~ new ~ material thingy u get it LAWL. so now it should turn from white to the normal texture and u can edit it at will! repeat one million times for everything u wanna change kjhkljhk

this is usually how my eyes nodes look

and again this is my head/body nodes like we saw before! the bump map is what gives it that look of pores its soooo sexy. u can get those by hitting shift + a and searching for color ramp + bump. obviously i mess w these settings depending on the vibe/lighting but yeah thats how i set up my skins for Realism!! :-)

Предисловие: Город переделан из Tariya 2. В декабре мне захотелось добавить городу больше жизни, больше новых мест для досуга и жилых домов. Реконструкция города затянулась, изначально я хотела потратить не больше месяца на изменения. Если подумать и подсчитать, то получается я над этим городом работаю больше 8 лет.... Большая работа, и огромное количество потрачено часов. Но! Я очень довольна результатом. Наконец я в него смогла добавить всё что хотела. Теперь есть и студенческий городок и места для дайвинга, с поиском клада. Хотя изначально задумывала, только для подводной рыбалки. В городе есть любой досуг, который можно только пожелать симам. А так же все виды трудоустройства. Я не буду досконально описывать каждую постройку, а выпущу отдельно обзор на всё что есть в городе. В этой теме лишь опишу и максимально возможно представлю в виде из��бражений город.

Как и всегда город будет представлен в 3-х видах: пустой, застроенный и заселенный. Жителям даны необходимые навыки и социальные связи. У каждой семьи своя история переплетающаяся с историей города и другими семьями.

Уверена, вам понравиться ещё больше Тария и её горожане! Ведь теперь город больше похож на настоящий, а истории семей его жителей не оставит вас равнодушными!

Foreword: The city was remade from Tariya 2. In December, I wanted to add more life to the city, more new places for leisure and residential buildings. The reconstruction of the city was delayed, initially I wanted to spend no more than a month on changes. If you think and calculate, it turns out that I have been working on this city for more than 8 years .... A lot of work, and a huge number of hours spent. But! I am very satisfied with the result. Finally, I was able to add whatever I wanted to it. Now there is a campus and diving sites, with a treasure hunt. Although initially conceived, only for underwater fishing. The city has every kind of leisure that a Sim could wish for. As well as all types of employment. I will not describe each building in detail, but will release a separate review of everything that is in the city. In this topic, I will only describe and represent the city as much as possible in the form of images.

As always, the city will be presented in 3 forms: empty, built-up and populated. Residents are given the necessary skills and social connections. Each family has its own story intertwined with the history of the city and other families.

I'm sure you'll like Taria and her townspeople even more! After all, now the city is more like a real one, and the stories of the families of its inhabitants will not leave you indifferent!

Некоторые участки были перестроены и добавлены новые. Город перекрашен заново, и изменен ландшафт. Что придало городу большей реалистичности. Город представлен в трёх версиях: 1. Пустой город 2. Застроенный город 3. Застроенный и заселенный город Исходя из придуманной мной истории и описания города добавила новые участки и перестроила старые участки неподходящие к истории города. Добавила много камней, растений и других городских украшений. Маяк перенесла на более подходящее для него место и сделала действующим. По вечерам жители прогуливаясь по набережной отмечают особую мистическую атмосферу прибрежного поселения.

Some areas have been rebuilt and new ones added. The city has been repainted and the landscape changed. That gave the city more realism. The city is presented in three versions: 1. Empty city 2. Built-up city 3. Built-up and populated city Based on the history I invented and the description of the city, I added new sections and rebuilt old sections that did not fit the history of the city. I added a lot of stones, plants and other urban decorations. The lighthouse was moved to a more suitable place for it and made operational. In the evenings, residents walking along the embankment note the special mystical atmosphere of the coastal settlement.

The city now has 2 beaches. One is wild in faerie territory, the other is urban, near the city center.

There is a huge agricultural farm that supplies the central city with its products. The fields are so huge that they hire local people to help with the harvest.

The village is located separately, quiet and measured. Where there is no city hustle and bustle. Lovely and friendly neighbors.

Конечно в городе есть не только увеселительные, курортные (в городе стало на 1 курорт больше), культурные, исторические, но и образовательные места в городе! В городе есть целый исторический образовательный центр, который когда-то был центром города. Здесь можно получить высшее образование, приобщиться к истории города и снять не дорого жильё пока получаете высшее образование.

Of course, the city has not only entertainment, resort (there is 1 more resort in the city), cultural, historical, but also educational places in the city! The city has a whole historical educational center, which was once the center of the city. Here you can get a higher education, join the history of the city and rent inexpensive housing while you get a higher education.

Построена прибрежная зона с небольшим поселением. Можно остановиться в хорошем недорогом отеле. Рядом места для хорошей рыбалки, пляж (неофициальный, для любителей тихих прогулок, вдали от шумных туристических маршрутов), участок для дайвинга, места для гонок на спортивных яхтах.

A coastal zone with a small settlement was built. You can stay in a good inexpensive hotel. Nearby there are places for good fishing, a beach (unofficial, for lovers of quiet walks, away from noisy tourist routes), a diving area, places for racing on sports yachts.

I'm starting to warm up to Train Sim World 3, a game I got via Microsoft's game subscription model. A huge part of that is because it has a lot of good tutorials for all the very non-obvious parts of it. Those non-obvious parts are there for realism, to be clear; most trains aren't designed to be obvious, they're designed to be run by trained personnel who got special training for all the details of each train they're on.

Anyway, the basic tutorials are all set in a fantasy location, the Training Center. It's a magic place where you will find German, British and American trains all next to each other on decidedly German infrastructure.

The setting is all over the place, with some alpine stuff, a lake, several station platforms, and the whole thing is notably not an A-to-B line. Instead it's a combination of different loops and sidings for shunting around that feels more like a model railroad than a real thing.

Clearly this is completely made up, right?

Well, no. While all the scenery is purely fantasy and quite a bit of the details are wrong, the track layout is in fact a real piece of railroad infrastructure. Specifically, this is the track layout of the Siemens Test Centre in Wegberg-Wildenrath, Germany, near… well, not really anything, but Mönchengladbach is the closest city.

This facility, built on the site of a former British airfield, is where Siemens (and to a small extent other manufacturers) tests new trains, both prototypes and sometimes individual ones. All the tracks are for testing trains at different speeds and in different conditions, and a lot also for storing trains. There are also big workshops, used for finishing touches, indoor tests, but also as an independent repair and maintenance facility, and to assemble trains built in other places.

According to its own description, it's the most modern of such test centres. I have no way of checking that. It is definitely not the biggest, that is VUZ in Velim in the Czech Republic, which has a much bigger outer loop allowing for higher speeds, but less other equipment and tracks as far as satellite images say. VUZ is still seeing a lot of use, though. Maybe they'll use that one as the training centre for Train Sim World 4.

Access to the Wegberg facility is difficult for rail fans. It isn't hidden by any means, it's about an hour's drive from where I live, but all the really fun parts are hidden behind gates and fences, and security patrols the area. They held I think like two open days for the public, in total, and the last one as far as I can tell was in 2012.

And of course I was there.

Hey, remember those days when the Vectron was fresh and new, and Siemens was still actively selling the class 189 (ES64F4) and that in-between generation they only ever sold to Portugal, Belgium and Lithuania? That sure was a while ago, now they've sold well over a thousand Vectrons and those beasts are everywhere.

First big difference between video game and reality: In reality, the outer loop is only single track, while the video game has it double-tracked.

The video game also gives me a top speed of 300 km/h for this outer loop. In reality, as far as I know the limit ist 160 km/h. Apparently the track gets checked and realigned weekly, to be sure that the measurement results are all accurate.

Yes, that is an Uerdinger Schienenbus. Yes, that did retroactively become a Siemens product, because the Uerdinger Waggonfabrik that built this dinky little rail bus ended up becoming Siemens's Krefeld plant (specifically the Uerdingen part of Krefeld, no longer an independent town), where they build all their high speed trains among others. Surprised the hell out of me too.

In the game, all lines are electrified and have British style third rail power. In reality, that is actually fairly close. Many tracks are not electrified, though (they have diesel shunters to deal with that, including some hilariously old ones). Even fewer have the British style third rail, although that is in use because Siemens does sell a lot of trains to Britain. Instead, some tracks, such as the inner loop, feature Berlin style third rail, raised, with a plastic cover and designed for bottom contact.

And in fact there's a fourth rail here, which the video game doesn't have. This is to test meter gauge trains; generally speaking that means trams. However, for the opening ceremony 25 years ago, they apparently did have a steam train from nearby historic steam railroad Selfkantbahn. Definitely the second-greatest historic steam railroad around Aachen.

Anyway, the point of this is… none whatsoever. I just thought it's funny. The makers of the game aren't hiding that they just took the Wildenberg-Wegrath track layout, you can find a number of news articles referencing this. But if you just downloaded the game because you got Game Pass and it says "train something", as you do, then you may never notice unless you're already aware of this test centre.

I’m doing a huge mod/cc review as a possible prelude to moving to Sims 3 Mod Organizer, and it’s bringing up mods I’ve always wanted but never found.

So, bed quality. The vast majority of EA beds appear to be cloned from exactly the same bed, so they have middling energy gain regardless of what they look like or cost. I installed Same Energy Gain for Every Bed, but I actually don’t like it. The Sims 3 is built at some level around raw materialism -- you work to make more money and expensive stuff literally brings you more happiness than cheap stuff.

I want a mod that makes bed energy gain a function of bed price for normal beds, i.e. beds that are not magic or supertech or whatnot.

Anyone know of such a thing?

(Also, reading the description of that energy gain mod, I beg to differ with Buzzler. Really crappy beds give you less rest precisely because they make your back hurt and cause you to toss and turn. And some kinds of comfy mattresses really do, imho, make your sleep a little deeper and more effective. Not that you can buy a super-powerful bed and then live on 4 hours of sleep in the real world, but that kind of realism is not exactly my play style.....)

Love the sims 4 ot3 pics they're so cute! Does the sims have polyamory in it now or is it a certain mod cause I'd love to play that!

Unfortunately the "inclusive" Sims 4 don't approve of poly (yet), luckily, Sims 4 modders do 🥰

I use these mods to customize relationships and have the game recognize extra marriages. There are all must haves in my book, even if you don't plan on having a poly relationship, these mods add drama, fun, hilarity, realism, depth and LIFE to the game.

-Wicked Whims (in this mod, there is a polyamorous trait you can add to the sims that allows them to be open to that type of relationship without issues but its a bit basic)

-MC Command Center (there is a setting in here to 'allow multiple marriages' that you can turn on. I recommend this mod for more than poly though, it adds so many benefits to the game its an absolute must have)

-Lumpinou's Open Love (this one is LIFE! This is where the magic happens for me. It is specifically designed for a 3-way relationship and it so nuanced and more true to real life than any of other poly mod I've ever used imo. It allows for different types of relationships like 'exclusive multiple relationships' which is what I use, it creates my three-way without jealousy between them however, if they were to flirt outside of the trio, jealousy, hurt feelings, etc all of that occurs just like it would in a 2 person relationship. There's also a 'non-exclusive multiple relationship' or if you don't want your sims all involved with each other, you can 'approve a side lover' for one of your sims but you must get the permission of their partner first and it will exclude jealous for the approved lovers. It also adds preferences! So, if your poly Sim happens to be with a Sim that's not into poly, they will absolutely tell their partner no to a three-way, approved lovers, any of it. There are other preferences to choose from but this explanation is already long, bottom line, this mod is amazing! I adore this mod)

-Lumpinou’s LGBTQIA+ / Gender & Orientation Overhaul Mod (this is fantastic!!! This is the most nuance, inclusive LGBTQIA+ mod I have found to date! There is so much in here it'd take me all day to list i, but just off the top, here's a quick features rundown: bisexual, pansexual, asexual, demisexual, transgender, cis-gender, non-binary, gender fluid, in the closet, openly out, privately out amongst family and friends, gender or sexually questioning, LGBTQIA+ allies and haters. Omg, there is so much to this mod. I adore this one! It finally gave me my Bi-ruto and demisexual Sasuke 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

-Chinghyu faithfulness (this is compatible with Open Love and Wicked Whims which is awesome! It comes with 9 faithfulness traits so you don't have to worry about your poly sims flirting outside their marriage because being with two people does not mean you want to date the whole world. Being polyamorous does not mean free-for-all (contrary to popular belief lol) So this addresses that part quite nicely if you're looking for a closed, faithful polyamorous. Took me a minute to find this but omg it's perfect. My Ot3 never stray)

-Simsmodelsimmer Set Family Relationships (I use this for the kids produced in the trio to give them official familial ties, however the Sims 4 added a 'Care Dependent' option in the toddlers patch that gives non-biological parents the same interactions with a child as they do a parent, but I still use this to label step-siblings or step-child as the Sims 4 doesn't do that. It has a lot of family titles the sims doesn't include like cousins, in-laws, things like that)

So far, this is the best combination of mods I've found that gives you the most freedom to create the polyamorous relationship you want. Hope this helps!

i feel like there are 3 types of simmers.

build simmers. simmers who spend more time building than playing simulation mode. they don't really care about sims themselves. if they download any cc or mods it's for furniture wall and floor textures etc.

barbie simmers. these simmers care mostly about aesthetics. they want their sims to look as perfect as possible, fantasy-like. their ccs are mostly makeup or clothes. skin textures. they want to play the perfect family. they want the game to be easy and just look really, really pretty. they love spending time in cas as much as simulation mode.

realism simmers. that's me. we download ccs and mods mostly based on how much realism and depth/difficulty they add to the game. i can barely stand cas or build mode. i don't really care how pretty sims or houses look, but i do care that the world feels alive, such as lighting or the environment. mccc is by far my favourite mod. that tells a lot.

i think sims 4 caters very little to realism simmers. that's sad. sims 3 does it better, but sims 4 manages to feel more real overall than sims 3 simply because of better hardware and tech and the little things ea has been adding to the game and perfecting it here and there, since it's 10 years old. I'm often torn between sims 3 and 4 because of that.

(i thought of making this post because i downloaded an ac unit. yes. sims 4 base game lacks airconditioning units. but seasons has a functional thermostat and it has always bummed me how the house just magically gets warmer or cooler by pressing a controler while irl some rooms in a house won't be connected to central heating or cooling and that's a tangible thing. so i learned some modders have made functional acs and radiators. i downloaded those. the radiators are fine but the acs cost... an astounding 11 simoleons and are all huge af and really pretty and shiny and don't fit the game's cartoonish aesthetic. I'm brazilian. acs vary a lot in size and they're not made to be pretty and certainly are not cheap. so i had to delete those from my mods and look for another. that made me think that the person who made this mod is probably a barbie simmer. the ac costs 11 simoleons because they use motherlode as soon as they get out of cas, which they probably love. sims is not about real life for them, it's about fantasy. amazing how this game can mean such different things for different players.)
