I feel you!! Personally I’ve been looking for a mod where I can assign employees to just mingle and socialize with customers at a ticket-booth business. I don’t want to have to make them all selectable, and I don’t want to have to direct them for every interaction. I just want them to walk up to customers and make them feel welcome and engaged.

Question regarding OFB employees & modding possibilities

In making a more realistic TS2, I’ve always thought that it would be so great if we could expand on the types of employees that are able to work in a business. We can see from the OFB controllers from Paladin’s Place that new roles can be created, such as, fishing, car-maintenance, massaging, and music-playing, and they are tied to specific objects that the owner can assign them a job with. 

So for example, let’s say I have an office lot. We can have, for example,  someone assigned as an employee and for them to just work on a computer, like a desk job? And then maybe, someone as a security, where they could sit and guard the lot by patroling and things like that. 

The desk job could be useful for many positions. Let’s say you have a hospital or even a school, and you need administrators or receptionists. If you have, let’s say, a computer that acts as a controller for the employees, wouldn’t it be nice to have them around, for more realistic gameplay (especially for institutions)? 

I’m aware of the many existing mods that make things more realistic, say, Chris Hatch’s hospital and school mods; Inge Jones’s school (pictured above in my game) and prison mods; and Sophie-David’s opportunity packs, and they make sense because they don’t just involve customers but also custom conditions (students learning or patients being sick). 

But I guess my gripe with those mods is the lack of integration with the OFB system, such as wages and things like that, but also things like:

- The inability to control the number of security/orderly/nurses/doctors in Chris Hatch’s hospital mod (I’d like to have more than just one/two of each, realistically)

- The inability to have more than four classes in Inge Jone’s school mod 

- Not sure how to integrate Sophie-David’s Opportunity Pack Schoolbook with the OFB employees model, but I’m gonna give it a try! 

One interesting thing from Paladin’s Place is their vocational training controller. It enables Sims to assign employees to teach students to learn badges, and I suppose Inge’s school mod performs similarly (except for the employee part). In terms of the integration of one institutional activity (teaching vocational skills), at least I know this is possible. 

There’s also a maintenance mod from Paladin’s Place so that’s nice and that can be applied for many types of businesses, but I don’t know, I guess I’m thinking of the many possibilities that could come from creating mods related to employees. I’m not much of a programmer at all, but I’m asking to those more informed than me–how possible would it be to create objects that assign new roles for employees?

Please share with me your thoughts and comments, friends. Maybe there are aspects of the aforementioned mods that I’ve missed or perhaps you know better about these things than I do :D

the freetime comparisons going around are making 0 points for me. that expansion sucked ass and the hobbies had zero depth.

your sims filled a meter using an object to gain access to a boring half done hobby lot. the expansion also reused old base game aspiration objects to fill in half done hobbies that didn’t get a unique gameplay object.

yesterday i played a rotation of the una family in ts2 and i forgot I downloaded a mod where burglars can sometimes be arsonists and well, you know where this is going.

Taking a small vacation from work and just decided to have an adorable Alien Sim named Kepler-70 of Cygnus, who after traveling around the Cosmos decided to come to Earth after discovering Grilled Cheese.

Once she learned the terrestial customs and perfected her skills, she now wants us human to appreciate our most wonderful creation thus she opened her Grilled Cheese business at home.

I don't know I just think she is adorable.

Well I read through most of the game guide and dear lords now I see why I never really played this its so complicated 😵‍💫

I didn't realize how many small things each expansion pack added though. For example I didn't know the ability to change a toddler's appearance was only added with this expansion pack, same with kids dancing on adult's toes and the lemonade stand.

I'm so annoyed that a big colored version of Open For Business Prima game guide exists (theres clear scanned images of in on internet archive) but I own a copy thats so small and grey toned that its unreadable and I'm pretty sure all the used copies are the small version I have .... I want the colorful big one damnit
