On February 1st, 2015, I like so many countless others lost a glimmer of light. One of my heroes, Monty Oum, had passed away. It's a strange feeling to know that he's gone because he wasn't somebody I knew personally. I never saw him, heard from him, or even spoke to him in any way shape or form related to human contact but through his art I felt like I knew him for such a long time. There was once a time where I was at my lowest point and was completely finished and ready to go. At that point, I remembered seeing a trailer for a new animated series a few months back. It starred a young girl in a red hood wielding a hybrid scythe/sniper rifle at blazing speeds and fighting and defeating monsters with fantastic style and pizazz. I thought it was really cool at the time and knew more was on its way that I needed to wait for. I bided my time and in truth actually forgot about it until I reached that lowest point and decided to check up on it again. When I first saw the show, which was midway through its first season, I was shocked. This show was the most amazing anything I had ever seen. The style, grace, presentation and beauty of the world, the characters that inhabited it and the music that moved it, was unlike anything I ever knew. However, what really shook me about the show was its sincerity. The show was honest, genuine, and awesome about every interaction, discussion, and scene that it showed me and I loved every single thing about that show. That animated series was created by Monty Oum and it's called: RWBY. That show simply changed me and made me reaffirm my hope and love for art, people and living. It might sound silly that something like a TV show could do something like that but that was the beauty of Monty's resolve to his craft. He worked day and night to bring his dreams into our world with his art. That passion and what he created with it is what made him my hero and now he's gone. I hate that he is gone and I still don't understand why amazing people like him leave so soon but in his place now is what he left behind for all of us. His light came to a close but the call he made to me to keep moving forward and to appreciate all those that we cherish close to us brought me to make this for Monty. For this Bruce Lee of 3D animation, I drew him and I simply wanted to say how much he and what he created meant to me. It's as much a way for me to grieve him and for me to say goodbye to him and that I'll never forget him. We'll never meet one another but what you left for me and for everyone tells me that I'll never need to. I already know you through what you made for this world and what story you wanted to tell and even in your absence, your story and our story will be told. I, a simple fan, say thank you. Thank you, Monty.
