The bad weather and the cancellation of Raj’s whale watching tours has impacted the Whale Museum as well. The only visitors since 8.30 am have been a group of elderly tourists from Shang Simla, and they didn’t even buy any souvenirs! Then Kaleb barges through the door.
“Hi,” says Mia, looking him up and down. He is dressed for the gym, and his hair and his skin are wet. He is panting slightly.
“Whew, it’s really coming down out there,” he says, unnecessarily. He smiles at Nanette who is sitting behind the reception desk browsing Parisian places of interest on the internet. She glances up and gives him a small nod of acknowledgement.
“Hey Mrs N!” he says. “How’s everything? Keeping dry?”
“Yes thank you Kaleb,” says Nanette. “Did you leave your umbrella at home?’
“The rain doesn’t bother me,” he says. “I was already hot and sweaty from the gym so being in the rain felt kind of nice.”
“Why do have to say things like that?" says Mia.
“What things?”
“That you’re all hot and sweaty. You know what that does to me.”
“Mia!” he says, with a small laugh as he glances at Nanette, who frowns at her computer screen. “Don’t talk like that in front of your mother.”
“I’m used to it,” scoffs Nanette.
“What are you doing here, anyway?” says Mia.
“I just thought I’d pop in on my way home from the gym and say hello to my favourite girls,” he says. Nanette exchanges a pointed glance with Mia. “I also wanted to ask Mia if she wanted to see a movie tonight.”
“Oh, I’m not sure,” says Mia. “I think…I’m supposed to be having dinner at Jackie’s. I’ll have to let you know.”
“Not a problem,” says Kaleb. “Alright then, I’d better be heading home. Enjoy the rest of your day!”
He turns to go and then Mia grabs his arm.
“Actually, we have a problem with the sink in the ladies’ bathroom,” she says, flickering her eyelashes at him. “Would you be able to have a look?”
“Um, okay,” he says. “Sure.”

"You can think well, love well, sleep well, if you have dined well." 1/2
Terraveller experience: comfortable stay with great food and friends for company when I travelled to Spiti from 22.08.2024 to 04.09.2024 (14 days).
Our travel circuit: Mumbai > Chandigarh > Narkanda > Sangla > Tabo > Pin valley > Rangrik > Langza > Komic > Hikkim > Kaza > Chandratal > Manali > Delhi > Mumbai.
DAY minus 1 MUMBAI TO CHANDIGARH 22.08.2024: by train.
The peanuts of Bharuch are famous for their bigger size and best flavour. We skipped the train meals to enjoy a Domino's pizza.
DAY 0 CHANDIGARH 23.08.2024:
A fully furnished and fully AC 3-BHK flat with 2 master bedrooms booked via AirBnb.
We experienced a paranormal activity here.
Our evening snacks at Khanna's Nukkad Dhaba at Zirakpur.
We enjoyed the dinner at P. Bhagat Tarachand at Zirakpur.
DAY 1 CHANDIGARH TO NARKANDA via Shimla 24.08.2024:
We had breakfast at Bikanerwala in Zirakpur, Punjab near Chandigarh.
We reported with Terraveler at 10 am. Our driver Mr. OmPrakash Thakur was a local himachali person from Mandi.
Lunch was the Verma's home stay and restaurant, after crossing Simla.
We sipped tea watching this gorgeous sunset while our tempo traveler refueled.
After a long ride starting at 10 am in the morning, we reached our destination, narkanda at 8 pm and we all were relieved to get out of the vehicle. We checked in the Treeline cottages at Narkanda.
Even when we were tired, I got my friends out under the dark open sky to observe the Milky Way and the constellations of Scorpio and Sagittarius.
Afterwards, we headed for the dinner at the restaurant of Treeline cottages.
We had breakfast overlooking the apple orchards which are nestled between the tall and dense conifers on the slopes of the mountains.
DAY 2 NARKANDA TO SANGLA 25.08.2024:
After visit to Rampur Bushahr palace, which didn't even provide the tourists with public convenience we bought some fruits at the local market. These apples are from Thanedar, the birthplace of apples in Asia. They were fresh, crunch and juicy.
We then headed to this restaurant on the highway. The split curds were the highlight of the menu.
We were always sightseing even while traveling in the vehicle. Tosh was informing us about the importance of the places we were passing by. Sometimes, we halted for photos too.
We reached Chitkul, the last or the first Indian village along the Indo-Tibetian border. Again we were facing the problem of public convenience and I went ahead to find washrooms for our group of 14 at Chitkul. The first restaurant denied us, even when we were ready to be their customers. The second restaurant welcomed us and provided us with a clean washroom. In all this search, I made a deal with the second restaurant that I will ensure 14 tea &/or snacks are ordered by our group. Now after getting refreshed, it was announced that we have a time limit of half an hour and everyone opted to sightsee in Chitkul. I ordered my tea and waited for it to be served and then many friends sat at the table. Even if we may not be all 14 at the restaurant, the number was healthy and I was happy to give back to the restaurant, who welcomed us for the loo-break. In this bargain, I lost the time to see Chitkul, but Tosh was gracious to me allow a walk in the village. In fact, he came and showed us the old village too! I was happy, that I didn't miss anything - the tea or the sights.
Afterwards, we backtracked to Sangla. Here we were staying in Hotel Prakash and our meals were at Hotel Prakash regency, which is just opposite it.
Our dinner at Hotel Prakash Regency.
DAY 3 SANGLA to TABO 26.08.2024:
Breakfast here at Sangla was with a view of Kinnaur Kailash mountain, which is always shrouded in clouds.
We moved ahead and reached the devil shoulder, Mt. Reo Purgyil - which overlooks the sangam or confluence of River Spiti and River Sutluj at a place called Khab. The sun was hot and so was the lunch at this roadside dhaba which was managed by the woman power of that village.
Rajma Chawal and Chowmein noodles are the staple dishes of this region.
After the sightseeing the Nako village and the lake, we reached Tabo and checked-in at Lari village at bungalow, Samdup Khangsar Homestay. The hosts of this place were warm and gracious local folks, who welcomed us in their family and ensured that we as their guests had a fabulous experience. We stargazed from terrace of this bungalow.
Dinner at Tabo (photo is awaited).
DAY 4 TABO to PIN VALLEY 27.08.2024:
Breakfast at Lari's bungalow home stay.
We had traditional breafast of Tibetian bread (phaley) with a dollop of butter, spicy green chutney and curds. The fresh apricots were complimentary from the host.
We reached Dhankar Gompa and Tosh of Terraveller offered us a choice between a trek to an high altitude Dhankar lake and lunch at the restaurant of the monastery. Few of us opted to trek and the rest enjoyed the lunch of thukpa and Tibetian omelette with bottled gauva juice.
Those who trekked to Dhankar lake had a lunch of fresh plums and scenery. 13 people and a box of plums, literally.
After tea at the Dhankar gompa's restaurant, we restarted our journey to one of the remote regions of Spiti - Pin Valley. We reached Mudh village in the dark around 8 pm and were dead tired from the arduous journey. Nobody clicked photos here at Sonam Tara Home Stay at Mudh village as we all were tired. Also the dinner photos were skipped. But there is a priceless memory which had been shared by a friend. Kudos to Tosh bhai of Terraveller.
DAY 5 PIN VALLEY to RANGRIK (near Kaza) 28.08.2024:
We woke up fresh and our breakfast was here opposite our home stay at Tara Traveller's cafe at Mudh, Pin valley.
Kaza was on the menu. We explored it on foot and Tosh recommended Cafe Piti for lunch. Though the service was late, it was made up by the courteous staff and the taste of the food served. There were fossils on display at this restaurant.
I have used photos graciously shared by my foodie friends, who also clicked good photos of places we stayed at. They allowed me to use their photos for this blog post. Those who contributed pictures are:
ND, DrPS, DrHS, DrKG, PN, SM & Terraveller, with whom we all had gone. (If I have missed anyone whose photos I have used and credits are not mentioned, it is unintentional & you may please bring to my attention. I will mention).
Part 2/2 continued...
PART 2 of the Spiti STARGAZING SIGHTSEEING JEEP SAFARI is here.

Day 5 - 10 September - Zagreb > Sarajevo
Started the day with a run which was very stop start due to the traffic lights. We then had a coffee and breakfast and went back to the flat and showered and checked out. We have stored our bags in the station and are now in another cafe.
Zagreb is interesting, it feels a bit more rough and ready, compared to the alpine sleepiness of Ljubljana. The Habsburg era buildings are in a bit more disrepair and there is a lot more building work going on. It also feels a bigger city and less set up for tourists, meaning it is quite hard to know what to look for. Lots of the museums appear to be closed for renovation, hopefully taking advantage of that sweet sweet EU structural fund cash.
We then went to a restaurant called Pithos which was really cheap and absolutely delicious. I had a schnitzel and Nin had a bean and sausage soup and we had a little beer with it. It seemed to be a place that people came for lunch from the civil service offices nearby. I really can’t recommend it enough!
After that we went to the museum of illusions which was fun, there was one illusion at the start that and you feel like you were seasick walking along a gangway when you were walking a straight line as well as lots of your classic illusions with mirrors and perspective.
We then went up the worlds shortest funicular railway and had a small craft beer from Croatia, as well as a few other small beer stops as we wandered around. Zagreb really grew on me over the day as we found little neighbourhoods away from the strip of mainly tourist bars. I think going for a run was really helpful in that as we passed places we went back to. I read (on Wikipedia) that Croatia lost 20-25% of its gdp in the war of independence that it fought with (a Serb dominated) Yugoslavia and although Zagreb did not have as much fighting as other places, a shock of something like that must be felt on the capital, particularly when it does not have he tourist money that other parts got subsequently. The little museums that were quite offbeat and the relaxed vibe meant that I was happy we stayed a second day and we saw a bit more of it than the last time we went when I was interrailing and we just went to a bar on the strip for 5 hours waiting for a train.
We had quite an expensive and forgettable meal at a vegan restaurant, got our bags and then went to the bus stop for our bus to Sarajevo. When we got there the bus company were very stressful in that they made you pay extra for baggage and then nearly didn’t accept our tickets because they weren’t printed.
We actually managed to get two seats to ourselves each which was nice, although I am still working out how to sleep on busses. The border crossing was largely fine, the Bosnian border guard just took everyone’s passports and then stamped it, without needing to look at us. The driver seemed to blow the busses clutch out so there was a slight burning smell in the bus for a bit, but it seemed to sort itself out.
We did arrive in Sarajevo an hour early at 5am! Which, considering we had no where to go and neither of us had really slept properly led to us taking what I call the ‘Chandigarh rip chord’ and booking into a Novotel for 6 hours at quite a cost (where I am writing this currently). This is named after what Ben and I did when we got into Chandigarh from Simla at 4am after a very hairy night bus and when all the other rooms were taken, went to a very nice hotel with a 24hr desk and checked in for 6 hours. I think we have learned rom this; 1. Night busses always get in early so don’t count on anything being open, 2. Night busses are probably not worth unless completely necessary and you always pay for it in the end. That being said my 6 hours in the Novotel have been bliss. We are now going to meet my friend from university, Alex who is travelling with his sister in the area!
Where we ate - Coffee - Cafe bar Botanicar, Korica 1, Pithos
What we liked - Quiche in Korica, our food at Pithos was great and really cheap

QUEEN AND PRINCE JACQUES VISIT HISTORIC TEMPLE
Yesterday, Her Majesty and Prince Jacques paid a visit to the historic Haneii Temple, located two hours north of the Shang-Simlang capital. The trip to the holy site was first on HM and HRH’s agenda following their arrival.
The impressive and iconic wooden red structure dates back to over 600 years ago when a small shrine was first built on the site by Shang-Simlan monks. Through the years, the shrine evolved into a monastery. However, raiding forces from the neighbouring kingdom of Komorebi captured the monastery and repurposed it as a makeshift hospital during the Eastern War. When Shang-Simla regained control of the area, the then-emperor ordered that a new temple be built on the site.
(Above: The royal trio pose below the steps of the main temple of the historic Haneii Temple.)
(Above: For the trip to the temple, Her Majesty wore a blue belted coat dress which she paired with a black hat, matching tights, and her trusty pair of similarly-hued court shoes. )
Ever since, Haneii Temple has withstood wars, unrest, and natural calamities. It is one of the 10 deisgnated “Cultural Treasures” of Shang-Simla and is a popular tourist attraction and pilgrimage site. Yesterday’s royal visit called for the entire temple complex to be closed, giving The Queen, Prince Jacques and their “tour guide” Emperor Kenji exclusive and private access to its beauty. However, on regular days, the complex welcomes no less than 3,000 visitors on average.
(Above: ROYAL WISHES - The Queen, Prince Jacques and Emperor Kenji engaged in tradition while touring the temple grounds and wrote down their wishes on wooden boards.)
The royal trio lit incense and offered prayers inside the temple. Meanwhile, Her Majesty, His Royal Highness and His Imperial Majesty also offered their “wishes” outside the temple. Traditionally, visitors write down their “wishes” and wooden blocks and hang them at a special place in the temple grounds. The Queen reportedly wrote down “Harmony and Peace for Brindleton” while Prince Jacques wrote “May healing and forgiveness prevail.” The Emperor, meanwhile, reportedly wrote “To fresh starts and new beginnings.”
Hmm. Such curious wishes. While The Queen’s wish seems typical and quite expectedly, “Queenly,” one can’t help but wonder if there’s beef within the Royal Family since Prince Jacques’ wish is about forgiveness? Maybe HM still hasn’t forgiven him for that whole fake lovechild affair? Also, The Emperor’s wish for “a new beginning” is also pretty telling - is His Imperial Majesty dating and opening himself up for a new future, love-wise?

Burb family, Dragon Valley - World Adventures #1
They have finally arrived in Shang Simla, a mystical place in China located in the other side of the world.
After they landed, they’re in awe of the whole place. The nature, the view, it’s all just breathtaking.
On their first day, they already met a couple of fellow tourists at the local base camp, and both of them were very excited to explore this magical and mystical village. Their first stop was the Phoenix Martial Arts Academy, where Jen learned the secret techniques from a local special merchant and martial artist, and where they both started practicing martial arts.
The second stop on their first day was at the Shang Simla Market for their dinner.

Pondicherry: Peace, Palette, Paradigm So it was that time again. I usually take short trips with my yoga friends, from time to time. I was all excited about this trip even before it got announced officially. Hailing from a Punjabi family, you are never expected to go on a holiday that can be described as “ tranquil” “peaceful” “holistic”. So as children, we usually went to places that were associated with “fun”. Thus, such holidays were a rare occasion. And in our busy lives, we don’t tend to think of such vacations either. Gratitude on Mystic, I should be ready to get up by me up sometime soon. A long weekend in a remote hill station or on the outskirts always helps to refresh the soul.

Capp-Shear family, Roaring Heights - World Adventures #56
Their vacation would end soon, so they’re making the most of their stay here in Shang Simla by visiting all the tourist sites and landmarks there, not for any martial arts tournament or adventure, but to enjoy the whole place and relax.
Regan, Charlie and Cornwall visited the Scholar’s Garden as a family. They all went there late afternoon, so they got a chance to watch the beautiful sunset from there. The couple enjoyed looking at the whole scenery before them while their son Cornwall was inside, reading some books.
Regan and Charlie were in great awe of the whole place. It was a magical sight and experience they would never forget.

Do you know if ITF has a major impact on performance the way Pets and IP are known to? I have zero interest in the time travel stuff, but I wish I could have plumbots/those giant flowers/the sci-fi aesthetic in general to use in my Lunar Lakes game. But I'm concerned that the game trying to keep track of what my Sim's descendants are up to etc. would just be a drain on processing for a place I don't plan to *go*, and I have a somewhat weaker machine as it is.
Hi! :D
#1: If you play in Lunar Lakes and you like sci-fi, you NEED ITF in your life. Like…do I have to shout from the rafters that ITF is one of the best, coolest EPs The Sims has ever had? Cuz I can. I can.
#2: I have never had an issue with the descendants thing & lag – I think the tracking really only applies once you travel to the future. The game warns you in advance when you switch households that doing so can affect your descendants (I assume it’s connected with Story Progression, which I don’t use/care about), but other than that I never noticed any lag associated with ITF at all. Honestly, from what I can tell based on the descendants I’ve gotten, I think the game just randomizes/tweaks your main sims’ genetics, rather than keeping any complex profile of what their descendant is up to. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But lbr, PETS is the worst lag-hog, with all the frikkin animals popping up every time you turn around, and that Ice Cream Truck of Doom. (I use this mod to control wildlife spawn, and this mod to nix the truck.) WA is bad about the zillion laggy tourists that show up, too, especially from Shang Simla, IDKY. (The Register mod stops them from spawning, too.)
I never experienced future sims randomly coming to my home world though. Not sure it can even be done, I guess. :\ But you can build a plumbbot and use one of the trait chips to make it have R2D2-like hologram communicators, so you can talk to sims in Oasis Landing, which is cool. :)
#3: In my opinion, the biggest headache with ITF is the stupid time machine popping up every time you start in a new world anywhere. It’s just as bad as the UNI mascot, tbh. (I use this mod to nix the time machine; mascot.)
#4: But yeah, ITF is awesome. I have all of the EPs installed, and if I had to choose, ITF would be one of the top 3 I’d never uninstall, if I was forced to save on space/memory. It’s that good. :)
